Mate smashing pumpkins are a different band. You have only really heard there musical style songs if that makes sense. There grunge harder stuff is almost a 180 but good. I highly highly recommend cheurb rock and I am one.
Say that's zero and bullets are incredible grungy songs as well and for me is classic pumpkins. Even if we don't see you just listen to these and the whole Siamese dream album you won't regret it and that's a promise

Mayonaise takes me back to the same place, every time. Being 14 in 1995. In the pale afternoon light...air still warm....twilight coming. Turning off of the sidewalk onto the dirt. The trail through the bushes, under the tall power lines. The empty land between the suburban housing developments was our land, the land of those who were stuck in between childhood and adulthood.

Billy (and the band) don't like to repeat themselves. The sound evolved in every single release from Gish onward. People who couldn't grasp that fell off the train at Adore. But Adore is a master work in its own non-Siamese-Dream way. Worth a listen as an independent piece, not a part of a succession of records. But if you're honest with yourself, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness sound nothing alike, either. Really in no way at all. So not sure why people were shocked with Adore. BTW, the new 3-disc record ATUM is great. Don't compare it to Siamese Dream, just listen to it by itself.

That's the moment when you get a sense of just how deep the sound is going to get, and then, when that first wall of distorted guitar power chord crashes in, it's so fucking satisfying!!!!
I remember hearing it for the first time at 15 as I biked home from my job as a stockboy at Zellers, one summer night in 1993.
I didn't go home. I went to the park across the road, climbed my favourite tree and listened to this song over and over and over again, pushing my earbuds as far into my poor ears as I could, trying to lock this amazing sound into my head forever...

Luna, Mayonaise, and Soma are my favorite Pumpkins tunes. Billy Corgan is the group's primary composer; his musical versatility and cathartic lyrics have shaped the band's distinctive albums, which one writer described as "anguished, bruised reports from Billy Corgan's nightmare-land."
Fool enough to almost be it
Cool enough to not quite see it
    Doomed
Pick your pockets full of sorrow
And run away with me tomorrow
    June
We'll try and ease the pain
But somehow we'll feel the same
    Well, no one knows
    Where our secrets go
I send a heart to all my dearies
When your life is so, so dreary
    Dream
I'm rumored to the straight and narrow
While the harlots of my perils
    Scream
    And I fail
But when I can, I will
    Try to understand
That when I can, I will
Mother weep the years I'm missing
All our time can't be given
    Back
Shut my mouth and strike the demons
That cursed you and your reasons
Out of hand and out of season
Out of love and out of feeling
    So bad
    When I can, I will
    Words defy the plan
    When I can, I will
Fool enough to almost be it
And cool enough to not quite see it
And old enough to always feel this
Always old, I'll always feel this
No more promise no more sorrow
    No longer will I follow
    Can anybody hear me
I just want to be me
    When I can, I will
    Try to understand
That when I can, I will

Man, this album is pure gold from top to bottom. One thing I enjoyed about this video is that it wasn't that long, because sometimes the song is so good that you forget to stop to talk about it. Great vid!

Billy Corgan is an emotional song writer. Ironically, he was at his best when he was unhappy and you can see that in the song writing in both Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. These three albums are undoubtedly among the top alternative albums of all time. When you get a chance, you should listen to them all from start to finish. You will not be disappointed. Not all the songs are "hits", but they all are worth listening to and represent a lot of the mellon collie overtones of the 90s. I personally recommend the song Jellybelly 😁

What’s ironic is this is literally like the only song Billy never wrote
James actually wrote this one , which is crazy, not only cuz of Billy’s control and ego we all know of, it’s also one of their best songs

I'd argue that there are few songwriters that aren't tapping the ol emotional well when doing their thing. The mood and overall tone varies wildly, but it's pretty much all emotion when music is the topic.

One of the undeniable strengths of SP is their drummer, Jimmy Chamberlin. There are so many great songs that display his "from a whisper to a roar" talents, but one that comes to mind that is the song "Jellybelly". It's pretty common knowledge amongst Pumpkins fans that Jimmy is heavily influenced by jazz and his jazz/rock-style/technique is on a full display here.

I've been a Pumpkins fan since early on but I never thought they'd be great live. Boy was I wrong. I've seen them several times in smaller theaters and small clubs and they truly rock. Their music is heavier than it seems at first. Some of the best shows I've ever seen.

The pumpkins are one of those bands that make "albums"... the songs work on their own...but to really appreciate the music on another layer, it would be worth listening to the entire album... Start with Siamese Dream and then Mellon Collie... The ones that come after are great albums as well. but these two records are near perfect from start to finish. It would be fun to watch a whole album reaction.

All the pumpkins albums between Gish and Machina II are completely excellent. I personally don't think any of the songs on those albums are even average, they're literally all excellent.
The fact that you've listened to three songs and two of those weren't "hits" but epics in the SP catalogue, and you liked them is completely amazing. You'll love the hits I'm sure, but I'm really happy for you. You get to listen to all these songs for the first time. What a blessing it has been to see your channel, and to see you actually enjoying all this good rock music. Makes me feel good knowing there's a new pumpkins fan.

Only saw them once, early in the Siamese Dream tour at the Blue Note in Columbia MO, right before they had started blowing up huge on MTV. Tickets were $8! Those were the days for seeing great shows without getting totally bent over by Ticketmaster. Their first 2 albums Gish and Siamese Dream are my favorites SP albums, and are masterpieces of classic grunge and Pumpkins albums, 2 of the best 90's alternative rock albums.

The Smashing Pumpkins were in their prime in the 90's, the 2000's on they feel off. Though at their height I would say top 10 of the decade just not the same calibre as the 'grunge groups' Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden but at the same level as Greenday, Stine Temple Pilots and Bush.
