i always used taskbar on the left, since we have 16/9 screen we have screen that is more wide than high, so if you want to waste some space, better to do it on the wide than on the high
The video is very helpful, but that is a lot of steps for the general public that is not accustomed to using the Registry as most PC users are not. It is also a little scary when the disclaimer is also added of "it is not recommended" not to mention the word "risky"! Moving the taskbar to the top was the FIRST thing I tried to do when the update completed! That is how important it is to me for my usage. I like my taskbar at the top for several different reasons: Workflow, ease of mouse usage as I work (other programs have their taskbars at the top like the ribbon in MS Ofc programs, Internet...just to name a few) and posture as the taskbar can be a focal point on the screen for a user switching between multiple programs as they work.. Moving the taskbar can be an hourly thing for some of us as we change programs and workflow. This is one ability that needs to be returned and remain. Sometimes the simple things are the most helpful and required.
I went for it. I normally don't and i don't mess with registry stuff as i am a regular user. That disclaimer did scare me. But i am so absolutely annoyed with this most crap decision from microsoft to take my taskbar away from top that i went for it anyways. It was so much easier than i thought. I didn't have explorer in the task manager though so i just restarted my computer and it worked. It is tatally worth it. This move disrupted my workflow and i am still so mad that they did something this stupid.

idk why they didnt include the ability to do so in the UI, as a user who places my taskbar on the top, this is just plain annoying and i hope they fix it in the final release
Hmm this did not work for me. No change at all. I tried each code to move to top (01), then left (00), then right (02) and the taskbar always remained at the bottom. Not sure what I did wrong but i also watched the video and followed the steps exactly.
Same here. I think Microsoft is now blocking us from using this "fix". It's a deal breaker for me. I'm returning my brand new laptop (which was supposed to have come with Windows 10 anyway). Very frustrating! I've been moving it since Windows 95. It worked in 98, NT, XP, Vista and 10. Why would they remove it!? And "drag and drop" being removed is even more ridiculous!

The problem with this hack is that the onmouse rollover text pops up in front of the mouse, thus disabling the clicking. Plus, the miniatures of apps don't show on mouse rollover. Open instances of Explorer don't react at all to the mouse click. The taskbar sometimes requires to hit the Windows key to show up. MICROSOFT grade: D.
I know it's a bit late to reply, but I'll leave it here so people who come later know how to fix it, because manually editing the registry like that only changes the start menu location, other functions are still at the bottom, so I recommend using 3rd software like Stardock Start11, it also edits the registry but they edit it fully so some features are still available such as miniatures of apps or so
I did exactly as the tutorial but failed. When I move to the step of restarting the windows explore, it doesn't work but remain as the default. I tried to check the registry editor and found out it was automatically changed back to 03. Anyone can help? Thanks.

this new version just wrecked my system... I moved it on top, it doesn't show the opened windows when the cursor is hovered upon the icons on the taskbar. The calendar should fall from the top, but now it opens on the bottom right and a part of the top has just vanished showing the icons cut in half. It's so messed up that now I want to make it at the bottom now, though I always prefer it at the top. I don't know what's good with this new version when the previous version was so awesome.

I am doing the exact steps in the exact directory in RegEdit, but after restarting the task- Windows Explorer, the taskbar does not move. What am I doing wrong?
I have done the exact same edit to the registry. Taskbar has moved to the top, but the preview thumbnails do not appear after all. When moving it down back, thumbnails are on. Do you know why?

I have a comment.. I just moved mine down from the top because I couldn`t get a fix for the aero peek not working. If you have more than one version of the app ( edge ) for instance.. you can`t select either one.. you have to alt-tab to switch.

Kinda dumb that there isn't an option to move it, I like everything being in the middle of the task bar, but I also would like it to be on the right side of my screen. Feels like the removed a lot of options that we had back in windows 10.

This has either been patched or Windows 11 is just broken. This no longer works. When I try to do it, the 01 turns back to a 03 as if it's being auto-updated by Windows themselves. Oh well, thanks for the tutorial regardless.

I've searched on how to move the hover animation on the taskbar to the bottom but no clue, perhaps do you know how to change it to the bottom??

I installed W11 last week. I rolled-back the next day. The changes they made to the Start Menu and all the other abilities that they removed for the user to customize their experience set Windows back 30 years... It's complete and utter rubbish.

However, I might have deleted something along the way because i cannot see none of my icons now :( I tried to look for the regedit but off course I could not see the search button anywhere to type that word in. I remember saving the stuckrect3 on my C:\ document but i cannot find that to go back to the original setting so I can fix it. Pls help
I said this before and I will say it again: USE WINDOWS 10. THATS IT. Just like millions of people use win 7 today. If the system is garbage, we shouldn't use it. Win10 brought some good changes compared to win 7 at least. Win 11 is just a crippled win 10 reskin with tons of bugs and less features

didnt work - registry kept reverting back once the explorer service was restarted..maybe Norton AV was doing a live protect/restore?
