- Change The Taskbar Position To Top Of Screen In Windows 11
Lots of people have the taskbar in different positions, but a lot has changed with Windows 11, you only have two positions, bottom center and bottom left. I will show you a registry tweak to put taskbar on to of your monitor screen.

Change taskbar to top of screen in windows 11, drop us a LIKE 👍
Does this work on the windows Insider program ?
I like your video but it seems this is no longer working. The change defaults back to '03' automatically.
Oh
same here for me, is there another a new way to do it ?
Same
yeah
@@renatooliveirausa use explorerpatcher
Did NOT work, even if restarting, by some strange reason the system reverts and it is an endless value of 03 in FE. I did OK and nothing happened
Any suggestions or another workaround?
It's been patched mate. Got a new fix?
This didn’t work on Windows 11 23H2, don’t waste your time
this method isn't working now. is there a new work around perhaps?
Not working for me
Same here, not working
Microsoft is out of touch. We want more options and ease of use, not less! User customization should be part of the value proposition of upgrading your OS.
I have like $5000 bucks into a high end 8700K @ 5Ghz system....and I can't run windows 11 because of a stupid / Unnescasary TPM chip ! Windows really outdid themselves, along with 95% of the market !
Hello! For some reason the 01 value keeps reverting back to 03 after I restart Windows Explorer in the Task Manager, so the task bar never makes it to the top. Any suggestions?
same happen to me. Must be outdated
actually same for me. currently running W11 23H2 Version
Doesn’t work anymore.
Appreciate the effort. But? For me it does not work... Even with a full restart of the computer. Taskbar stubbornly stuck to the bottom of the Window. Keep bumping the taskbar with the pen when writing on the tablet screen. Opens up new Windows...
Only one of the numerous glitches.
Thanks for the effort!
Followed all the steps and it didn't work for me. Not sure why.
Am I the only one this hasn't worked for? When I restart Windows Explorer, the task bar just flickers and pops back up on the bottom. Also, when I attempt to go back into Registry Editor, the 01 has gone back to 03.
same for me, it doesnt make a difference :(
Same for me, exactly as you have described.
it isnt working. I hate win11 its just a trash- cant even put the bar at the left or right how i used to and CANT GO BACK TO WIN10
i did just the same way you did...Still my Taskbar is at the bottom
I have a 21 inch drawing tablet at the bottom of my table, that's blocking the bottom part of my main screen, so I really needed the taskbar removed from the bottom. Was easy to do in Win10, not sure why Win11 removed it. Appreciate the help.
It's not working now...can you please make video for latest windows 11 update...how to move task bar yo top of the screen
Do you know how to do the same thing to the taskbar on another monitor? Doing this only moves the taskbar on the monitor you set as primary.
yeah, I tried changing this value to other numbers but couldn't get the taskbar on the second screen. Which is a shame, because the system tray will stay only on the primary monitor.
@@Karol-cj9fy Hvae u found any solution yet?
It doesn't work on hp 13inch x360 laltops
Thanks!
But once the taskbar is set to screen top, i'm unable to see the window preview when i place the mouse pointer on the taskbar icon
For apps such as word or acrobat reader which can open multiple windows, i'm unable to switch to the app by clicking on it; since the preview is happening above the taskbar which is out of bounds for the screen
could give a fix for this as well
why windows why, they remove the useful feature for this "newly developed super innovative" windows 11
Install Windows 11 on any PC - Without TPM
1 Just make a Windows 10 USB & Delete the Install.ESD File in the sources dir.
2 Then Copy the Install.WIM file off of the Windows 11 USB to the Windows 10 USB sources dir.
3 Boot Computer to the USB to Install Windows 11.
Feels like windows is becoming more linux like. Already existing features, just different design.
There seems to be a side effect of this change, at least on my PC. If I move the taskbar to the top of the screen, my stacked windows (you know, multiples windows of 1 program) stop displaying when you hover over them. So, if I have multiple emails open I cannot retrieve them after minimizing them as the stacked windows do not show up for selection. Or if I have multiple directories open, if I minimize one of them I cannot retrieve it again.
I use multiple screens, and the ones where I left the taskbar on the bottom can still display the other windows when hovering over the program. It is just the screen where the taskbar is at the top that has this issue. It's almost like the hover mechanism is still displaying them above the taskbar, just off-screen where I cannot access them.
Any idea how to fix this, without reverting the taskbar position back to the bottom?
You find a solution to this problem, you let me know, i've already fixed the alt-tab problem, now I need to fix the nested windows problem
it doesn't have any effect on my task bar
thank you and it works, but unfortunalty I'm using multiple screen (3 screens ) most of the time, it works only on main screen not in other two screens. is there way it could be done for all 3 screens ?
Hi mate, im learning system admin atm and I was wondering how you were able to find this setting? How did you know where to look in the registry and how did you know it was the value under FE that determines how taskbar is positioned? Thanks I really appreciate this registry hack!
maybe your future self could answer that?
It didn't change mine
Second :)
First :)
not working
Works great! except if you have multiple monitors ;( i now have taskbar at top on one monitor the other has taskbar at bottom
Didn't work for me...rigorosly followed the instructions posted here. After reststarting Windows Explorer I tried restarting Windows. Still at the bottom. i found that after restarting Explorer and/or restarting Windows the value was change back to 03. Any ideas?
What I learned today after "upgrading" to Windows 11 is that I already don't like it. Something as simple as dragging the taskbar to the left, right, top or bottom with the mouse, now becomes a labyrinth for the use of only two options. HOW IS THIS AN UPGRADE IF YOU LOSE OPTIONS? My mother used to say "If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It"... I just went to 11 and now I want to go back to 10. I now dread seeing what else 11 has in store for me. Sh!$%
Back then i could just move the taskbar by switching a setting and moving it with my mouse........
It doesn't work for me :( My taskbar becomes black for a couple seconds, then just stays on the bottom :(
this did not work , the last time of restarting the windows exploret did not move the task bar to the top
been using side taskbar for about 8 years, this is so stupid
For doing that first we need to buy a high end pc which supports windows 11 otherwise these tricks are useless
Thank you so so much - and why are Microsoft such A-holes? jeez - I thought it was the 21st century
idk why but it dosent work it just makes it still stay at the bottom probably its patches????
Here in my laptop,, i don't find setting affter going to Rects3😢😢
No windows 11 for me. have been running linux for years n loveit. with that said now i have too get wife on it she does use win10.
You, Sir, are a legend. Thank you for this
Glad to help
@@Britec09 this regedit hack is broken. everytime you restart explorer, windows automatically changes the "01" value back to "03". any other way to do this?
Where there is a will there is a way haha.
Nice find
Some people like it on top lol
Tired of a half dozen videos presenting the same thing and nothing happens
i have to say i really like the new windows 11 for me being able to just carry on as before with the same software really helped i also like most of the new changes i also hope they relax some of there install rules so existing users can continue on and upgrade
Me too
I put the taskbar at the top center but the menu remains at the top lef
Is this working as of 2024? o.O
Didnt they say that they wouldnt make a windows 11?
How can i set the clock with seconds above the date? :C
I fail to see any need for Win11 as opposed to Win10.
this guy is making these tutorials before the actual release starts what a legend
Got to get them out there.
how about multiple screen? my main screen got change to top but the other 2 screen still bottom. any idea how to make 3 screen taskbar to top?
Not Working For Me
I know Windows, lol. I change not a single thing in regedit. There are many reasons why my daily driver is Linux.
That's ok. Continue to use Linux not sure why you and many other Linux users are obsessed with windows
I WANT TO MOVE IT TO THE RIGHT NOT TOP FUCKKKKK
Does not work on 11 pro…..
Nice video! I've heard that in a future build of Windows 11 they will be returning the search bar back to the bottom of the taskbar which honestly isn't bad for me because of how I'm so used to it in Windows 10 already.
Really? where did you read about that?
@@Britec09 I could be wrong or I could be right I believe I saw it from a tweet on twitter where someone asked Microsoft about it. I'm not exactly sure but I'm taking it with a grain of salt until we all see for ourselves in a future build remember this is still early and lot's more stuff can be changed between now and when it's ready to be released to the public.
this did nothing.
what a waste of time
HOW TO MOVE IT TO THE RIGHT SIDE
Doesn’t work.
this could be useful for me later
My task bar will not move at all, i'm using two screens, and neither will change, how do I fix this? if it is possible to fix.
It's not working
fake😡😡😡😡
I have a question, this worked when I had windows 10 but once I updated windows 11, nothing happens. Any suggestions?
not wworkied
It does not work
Happy 4 July to you
Hey Brian I don't care about the taskbar being anywhere but on the bottom but are you telling me that Windows still doesn't support dark mode in the system windows like regedit, task monitor, disk management, confirmation windows etc?
It didn't work
Is there a way to fix fast settings after changing taskbar position to the top? I can't find anything about it yet.
Personalizing the taskbar settings with windows 11 works just fine.
How do we do this for multiple monitors? This way only makes the main monitor move.
What if you have dual monitors? How do you change the 2nd, or can't you?
is there a way to make it work on both monitors ? it only worked on the main one for me.
How do you find out how to name/where to place the keys, is there an official documentation on that?
Hi Brian Wondering if there is a way to get the clock (bottom right corner) to display seconds, like windows 10...Had it enabled then but it wont display for windows 11, suspect it has something to do with the current position of the clock? Thanks!
Thank you very much 👍.
For listening my comment from previous video ❤️
How about Quicklaunch bar…still available?
Hi @britec09
Please make video about task manager. Whenever we right click on the taskbar task manager option is not showing.
And also please show us how we can easily get refresh option like previous windows 10. In windows 11 we have to press shift+F10 for refresh.
@Matt React Hi Matt thanks for your advice but i don't want this option. I need direct refresh option as windows 10 or other windows. Please if you can 😍
Hey Brian is windows 11 better than windows 10, any problems with it like infinite loop. High memory and cpu usages.
Please make a video on comparing cpu and memory usages in win 10 and 11
I like it a lot
it didn't work
prolly patched by windows
You should back up the registry before making changes Just saying ! How does this relate to the Windows "Pro" with the group policy editor
Always backup before making any changes
Is it possible to move the bar to the left side?
How about on multiple monitors?
thank you very much it worked
thanks, helpful, what about your extended screens? always on bottom?
You lost me @ reg edit 😆
Thank you very much :)
thanks a lot
Thank you!
Thank you so much man
Dude you are a legend! Ive been following ur vids every now and then..i love em! Simple..short yet content rich and on to the point. AND YES
I LOVE THE TASKBAR UP, cuz im from KDE Linux environment and it just looks so damn good up.
Thanks again for sharing
Love from India💫
This works but breaks as its not final ..the start menu appears on the left when im in centered mode..and other wifi settings and notification panel still appears below as before..this is not a fix, but its worth appreciating the efforts.ty
Really? 99.99% don't have Windows 11. Even after the official launch, many still won't have Windows 11 because of MS ridiculous requirements unless the remove those restrictions. I will stick to Windows 10 for the next 5 years or so.
just type taskbar behaviors in the settings and change to left or right, why are you using the backend settings for normal users
I m user of top taskbar I am looking to move action centre and notifications as well, so its going to appears on top followed by click instead on the bottom. any idea how to do it?
Why talk about windows 11 when MS isn't making it available for all
It is available to everyone in insider program
