The names of Jin's arts are just depressing when you account his time with Lora in Torna. A Moment of Eternity? E M P T Y M O M E N T. An art called Swallow's Flight? S T U N N E D S W A L L O W.
After learning about Jin's past before the battle and hearing this music while fighting him made me really sad. Then I stopped feeling sad after fighting him for the 52nd time getting hit with all the Empty Moments, Bladeless Blade, Zero Zone, Heavenly Disrupt, and Skyward Slash along with shackling my blades and tossing my ass in the air every 40 seconds and really starting to get pissed at him wanted to absolutely destroy him even more every time I died. Then the cutscene after that made me really cry
You can actually hear the main theme at 1:36 Something interesting tho, is how this part of the main theme is different from the original version. The main theme can almost be thought of as the theme for pyra and rex’s relationship. In the original version the tune is in a minor key, but it swells and starts low and rise upwards in pitch, in general it has a very hopeful feeling. The segment of the main theme in Jin’s theme starts high, and descends, and is overall foreboding and anguished. I think this is meant to draw parallels with how Jin and his relationship with Lora was very similar to Rex’s relationship with pyra. However, when tragedy befell Jin, he grew bitter, and resentful towards the world and closed his heart to others. Whereas Rex had his friends to help him when pyra was taken even when he was ready to give up. I think the music may reflect this duality between the characters
Also, to further your point, those specific set of notes were played in the ending song, One Last You, together with these lyrics: "Can I ask you, God? Despite all of this... Could the sandglass somehow take back the time? One last time is all I ask from you Can you please spare me some time with the one [wo]man I loved?" And considering the events of the tragedy that befell Jin and Lora, it is as if those lyrics are fully embodying Jin's inner desires and hopes with regards to Lora.
You can really hear the tragedy that Jin has gone through in this theme. Jin is my most favorite Xenoblade Chronicles 2 antagonist along with Malos and Mikhail.
MarioXenobladefan614 Those are the three great ones. My favorite characters list is: 10: Klaus 9: Mikhail 8: Vandham 7: Poppi 6: Rex 5: Pyra / Mythra 4: Zeke 3: Jin 2: Nia 1: Malos

This sounds like the song of a tortured soul who struggles with life and purpose, but finally finds his meaning (and maybe redemption) right near the end of the refrain when the horns play. When you play Torna and then XC2 and watch the character develope, I think its hard to deny how well this song fits Jin.

@@lemmyxpro That's what you thought though, it's not the truth. You should have asked me to clarify before jumping to conclusions, I'm afraid that was your mistake.
I grew to love Jin. I helped him and his driver grow back on Torna. They were almost too powerful. I didn't want to fight him, but I did share a common enemy with him. Knowing that, I do feel some solace knowing that I could bring revenge for him, after all these years.
Friendly reminder that when Jin was saying goodbye to Malos he said, “I’ll be watching over you. All of you.” What does watching over everyone imply? He knew he was going to die.
It seemed that without the chamber on there ship he wouldn't be able to recover because when ever he used his powers he would need to go in it and since it was destroyed he really didn't seem to have long left I think it was because he had loras heart that gave him these problems because that heart had been beating for over 500 years at this point
@@zaos7321 I'm not surprised by their similarities in design since they were both designed by Tetsuya Nomura, I always thought Patroka looked similar to Tifa aswell.
Jin may look like Sephiroth but I see him as the version of cloud strife that let his trauma take over him. Literally clouds girlfriend and hometown were destroyed and his best friend was killed while Jin lost a lot of friends and both had this traumatic screaming after all of it but Cloud ultimately overcame it whereas Jin let it take over him.
This theme really doesn't feel like a battle theme, it's sounds like a song straight from a ballet. A song you'd see a dramatic dance to. And when you consider that Jin, while having a lot of very Ninja-like attacks, also has some attacks that have him more slowly and somewhat dramatically, it gives you a better understanding of Jin's character if you didn't have it already. A tragic man forced to continue the show after it should have ended for him years ago.
Ambur Price Not me. Hugo was a subpar hybrid of the other ardainians, Morag and Niall. Lora wasn’t a very interesting character on her own, it was her dynamic with Jin that allowed me to keep playing as her. Addam and Mythra’s bond was nothing compared to Rex and Pyra, which is the point of chapter 7. The only improvements on characters were Seeing what Haze was like before Amalthus brainwashed her, and seeing what minoth was like in his prime.
Max Richards I mean, you can see why mythra/pyra locked herself away after the war, and the dynamics between addam and Hugo both being heroes of the people make for some decent (at the very least) character development

Vs. Sorrow (or now Words That Never Reached You) is a great track, and N's battle theme is one of the best. But i think where i stand now, Jin's is still the best. I'm happy my wish was granted though. Xenoblade always hits.
"But that man, he'd lost everything. He no longer wanted anything, he didn't even want to live anymore. And despite that, his life was the one thing he hadn't lost." "Because he couldn't!"
Jin was the same as Amalthus, filled with anger and selfish self-loathing, until he decided to give that all up to save the world. He decided to, in his last moments, live for others
I remember when I fought his true form the first time in Tantal I had Zeke in my party instead of Morag like I usually do, and because of that he immediately opened with heavenly disrupt and one shotted Rex. Thank god I had an extra party bar from the previous battle
Max Richards I find Stunned Swallow worse because it’s more annoying. At least Heavenly Disrupt only targets one character and there’s three chances to resist the Driver Combo.
"I dont want forever just a moment if its with her" "She wanted to tell you she didnt want forever just her precuous time with you" How different men deal with the same situation
this song is still powerful after XC3, brings back those memories of that powerful man, who only wanted to make things right in a world fked up... amazing composition and amazing backstory for this beautiful track
This music is just so depressing, but not because of how challenging the battles against Jin are, it is about what Jin has encountered in the past and have to endure it all the way to the present day. The 500 years of pain, sadness, anger and hatred.
It suits Jin of all people especially considering his tragic story and his reason for fighting. It really sticks with you as well because of just how different it is from a lot of the other boss themes.
It just gives off this feeling of hopelessness... like it's telling you, "This guy is completely out of your league. You have no hope of defeating him. Just give up and be cut down where you stand."
"I can control all of the particles around me" literally would have been the most broken blade in existence if he utilized it. Jin was stronger than malos and mythra combined...
...He was probably bullshitting for intimidation. Can freeze all the Ether particles? Sure. Is stupidly fast even compared to Mythra and his Torna self? Sure. Can control all particles around him? Freaking Pneuma's ability is around that level and seems to have hidden limits.
Alex Walters Tbf, he was confirmed by mythra to have been the strongest blade in history, so it might not have been cap. But, unlike the aegis, he can’t control artifices, and they can attack with energy that he can’t control, and that was the critical difference that placed him just below the power of the aegis
That's what struck me as stupid with Jin. He's literally so incredibly op he surpasses the Aegises, which are literally gods amongst blades, it just didn't make sense to me. His light speed and freezing ether particles should've been enough to make him scary, but they messed up in that regard.
@@bravecereza To be fair, this is implied to have been an ability he got only after becoming a Flesh Eater, and it's probably also a required power to actually reach light speed.
@@bravecereza The idea of Jin surpassing the Aegises doesn't seem bizarre to me since I can see Flesh Eater capabilities being proportional to the bond between them and whoever is "eaten."
Ah, the memories of my friend watching me get my ass kicked by Jin over and over again, trying a new strategy, getting my ass kicked again, ALMOST beating him, getting my ass kicked again, only to realize that I had to fight another (although easier) Boss right after that... Jin: Perhaps... I want to see for myself. If this world has any will of its own... which one would it choose, you or Malos...?
Mythra: Then... You should let us pass.
Jin: That, I cannot do.
Mythra: But why? In your condition, you should barely be able to stand! You know if we fight now you'll...!
Jin: You see right through me Mythra... ...But I made a promise. I'll do whatever it takes to fulfill his desire.

The One-Winged Angel of Xenoblade Chronicles.
You can actually hear the main theme at 1:36
Something interesting tho, is how this part of the main theme is different from the original version.
Also, to further your point, those specific set of notes were played in the ending song, One Last You, together with these lyrics:
"Can I ask you, God? Despite all of this...
Could the sandglass somehow take back the time?
One last time is all I ask from you
Can you please spare me some time with the one [wo]man I loved?"
And considering the events of the tragedy that befell Jin and Lora, it is as if those lyrics are fully embodying Jin's inner desires and hopes with regards to Lora.
If they dont add this theme, then it would be a certified EMPTY moment 😔

This sounds like the song of a tortured soul who struggles with life and purpose, but finally finds his meaning (and maybe redemption) right near the end of the refrain when the horns play. When you play Torna and then XC2 and watch the character develope, I think its hard to deny how well this song fits Jin.

After playing the Golden Country, this makes me very sad. I liked Lora more than Rex.
Definitely
Ambur Price
Not me.
Max Richards
I mean, you can see why mythra/pyra locked herself away after the war, and the dynamics between addam and Hugo both being heroes of the people make for some decent (at the very least) character development

This music is just so depressing, but not because of how challenging the battles against Jin are, it is about what Jin has encountered in the past and have to endure it all the way to the present day. The 500 years of pain, sadness, anger and hatred.
I love how, in this boss fight they decided to take a more sad and dramatic theme than in the others
If you know what you desire, You will have to show it. Not with words but with your own strength!
