It’s a great car for me. Fuel is currently $3.34L and I get incredible distance despite paying $100 to fill up. It really sux for large fuel tank cars costing $217 (US$133) to fill up 65L(17gallons) of Fuel.
How’s the seating position on this thing? I drove Uber for 6 years in a Prius and the seat posture gave me GERD, believe it or not. I’d like another hybrid but I can’t sink in the chair.
I was really considering going for this, but i bought an Audi A6 instead 2.0 tdi. Out of town I get 5.1 to 6.3 fuel consumption, a little higher if I really push it or high speed highway which will go to about 7.5. My average for 10k km is 8.6 given that in a very crowded city I get from 9 to 14 L/100km, which can be a little on the high side for some people. I am a big fan of the lexus CT, but having so little power was something i really had to consider. 170 hp on a 1.7 ton car is not fast, but it's decent over the CT which is lacking in the performance department. The Is with the 2.5 hybrid is much nicer to drive, but a lot more expensive on the second hand market. I like how they put more power with the new Prius and I expect Lexus to come with higher power as well and even better design, cause the quality it's surely there. In some regards, the interior is better quality than the A6 of 2005-2011 generation, not with the same generation, but pretty damn close. I like it how it also drives very similar to an Audi in terms of overall feeling, like a smaller/low power version of an Audi. Overall nice car for mostly city driving and very reliable in doing so.
I've commented on this video before saying that I want this car, and I just got it almost a month ago. I got the 2014 ct200h fsport, and I love it, but there are some downsides to it. The one thing I don't like the most is how loud it is when going uphill. It's really loud and kind of awkward when someone's sitting in your car and the only sound is your car trying to chug up the hill. I also do not like the ports for the USB and cigarette plug. The little door on it is awkward especially if you want to use the cigarette plug because it has to stay open. I personally don't like it because it makes the console look messy and unorganized. There's also only one cigarette plug, which sucks because I wanted to install a dash cam but having the port door open all the time will bug me. I do love driving this car, though. It's so beautiful inside and out (especially with the fsport grille)
Allison Litt did you test drive the trim below it? If so, what's the hp difference? Thinking of getting one of these and I drive a 200hp vehicle and this is a major difference lol
The ride is smooth, Patrick Cowley, but it's tuned more toward the sporty side than the soft and luxurious side of the large LS. Also, we recorded this outside of Atlanta, GA. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@AutoAcademics I really appreciate you letting me know!! Also thanks for letting me know the location, that area is so beautiful and seems perfect for making videos, I need to see more of America. Wishing you all the best these Holidays!!
ive had the car for over a year. i rate it 8/10 very bad blind spot though.. i average anywhere from 37 to 43mpg.. i wish they didnt discontinue it.. if they fix the blind spot, add blind spot monitoring and make the monitor bigger and better.. it would rate it 9/10 almost perfect.. im going to be trading it in soon.. the new camry gets 50 mpg..
It's worth buying, if you keep it serviced it will last forever. I have a 2,000 is200 that looks and drives better than most new cars. I'm going to get an is300 next year and I'll pass the is200 on to my son , I expect it to last another 20 years because it's so well built.
Looks like a nice car. Appears to me to be a repackaged Prius where the focus on economy has been shifted to luxury and sporty feel for a chunk more money. I just bought a used Prius, and have a 98 ES300. The Prius is not a Lexus but it doubles the mpg. If One were to compare the tire width of a Prius to the CT 200H, there is a huge difference.
Yeah. While both are hybrids, this is a different market than the Prius, Daniel Rose. Although, the newer versions of the Prius are definitely taking steps in the right direction. ruclips.net/video/RpOSJE3sROY/видео.html Thank you for your comments and for watching!
I have a 2013 Cth and it is the best car I've had in the City of Toronto (Last three cars, BMW 535i, BMW 525i, Benz S (1999)). It's the coolest most efficient car I have had that kills it in traffic. This is a city car that is fun to drive (F Sport) and economical. Sorry Germany I am hooked on Lexus Hybrid. Thanks for the post
Great review - I own a 2013 and the review is spot on in discussing the many pluses and very few minuses the car has. Want to echo the other comment that let's not understate how reliable and trouble free these cars are - peace of mind. Look forward to more reviews.
3:16 that's a quality door sound. Also I hear everybody talk about the CVT drone when you accelerate, is it really that bad? I have a diesel Audi and when I accelerate hard it sounds like a tractor so is that any better? Anyway great review thumbs up from me.
Yeah, those CT 200s do have good door seals, Adam Perkins. While many diesels do sound like tractors under load, the drone from a CVT is different because it never shifts gears. Typically, it sounds like you're running the 4-cylinder engine too hard at a steady 4,000 rpm without ever shifting. Thankfully, many manufacturers are programming artificial shift points in their CVTs to appease those of us who don't care for it. We appreciate your comments. Thanks for watching!

I have a 2012 Fsport w 96k miles. It has a minor squeak in the front end when it's cold but other than that it's been perfect. I drive mostly highway and I average 53-55mpg in the summer and abt 47-49 in the cold winter months. Great vehicle.
Maybe 101 times will be the charm? LOL In all seriousness, Allison Litt, hang in there. If it's something that you want that bad, you'll figure out a way to accomplish it (hopefully, legally, that is). It may take a few sacrifices, but you can make it work. Just keep an eye on the preowned market. Something good that you can work with might just come up. Thank you 100x for watching!
This would be a good car to replace my parents aging Lexus ES 300. They don’t care about how fast it goes , how it handles , or how quick it gets to 60( practically takes forever), so this would be a good fit for them... because they aren’t car enthusiasts.
My 2012 doesn't have that brake issue. The regenerative to disc transition is nearly seamless. I can hear it when the radio and AC are off, but I can't really feel it unless the rotors are wet.
I notice you had a baby car seat in the back , but didn't mention it. We are currently in the market for a hatchback commuter car , that can safely and easily transport a young child. We test drove the ct200h today and for the most part were happy with it. Although , in Sport mode , I expected more power than it gave us. What are your thoughts about this car being a daily driver for a Mom and her baby?
Hi, Travels & Chases. Yes, Chris' (our presenter) kids are still in car/booster seats so you'll see them in the videos from time to time. That front facing seat worked fine in the back of the CT 200h. We wouldn't call it spacious, since the seat did have to be moved slightly closer than an average-sized front passenger might like, but it wasn't terrible. Depending upon the size of your car seat, the contour of the rear seats might require a little adjustment during installation and Chris did have to remove the headrest, too, but it wasn't out of the ordinary what for what we've done with other test vehicles. So with all that being said, the car worked fine with the car seats, but if you're looking for something with more power, this is still a traditional hybrid powertrain that focuses on fuel efficiency over all else. The CT 200h handles decently, but the Sport button primarily keeps the car from going into electric mode only. Overall, it would be a fine car for Mom and her baby, so long as she doesn't like to engage in stoplight to stoplight drag races. We appreciate your comments and we hope we were able to help. Thanks for watching!
+Neal Jalal As far as we are aware, the CT200h is a reliable vehicle, Neal Jalal. Its powertrain is based on the Prius, vehicles that have seen very high mileages over the years with minimal issues. You will probably have to contend with some minor wear and tear on interior trim pieces, eventually, but overall the car should be fairly durable. If you have not done so yet, please consider SUBSCRIBING to our channel. We can use all the support we can get. Thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching, too!
+Neal Jalal Older models are almost identical to the newer ones. The only differences are cosmetics and some of the tech stuff. I was able to snag a moderately-equipped 2012 with 18k miles on it for $23k a few months back. I highly recommend going used on the CT.
Ha! We can't argue with that, Ashrid Hussan. Unfortunately, the CT 200h is strictly a hybrid. But who knows what the future holds. Thank you for your comments and thanks for watching!
Have a 2014 Lexus CT200h Bought it 3 years ago, and I absolutely love it. Already at 77k miles. Only issue is the door lock actuators. Have had issues with 2, and replaced 1. Otherwise, great mileage. Looks great. Drives like a dream. Of course you won’t get much space or power, but it’s way more than enough for me. Love it. Would highly recommend it to anyone!
Yes! Both my driver’s and passenger’s door lock actuators shit the bed. Lucky for me, they were covered under the L/Certified warranty. Mine’s a 2015. Seven years and 60,000 mi. in, it’s the _perfect_ commuting car, especially here in Southern California.
Nice review man. I'm a college student and I really want a car that is going to be reliable for more than 5 years and a gas saver. I'm thinking between this Lexus CT, the new honda hatchback or Mazda 3 hatchback. I can't decide lol
Well, while the CT will get you good fuel economy, keep in mind the cost of ownership. Owning a Lexus will be slightly more expensive than a Honda or Mazda. Thanks for watching and good luck!
We've expressed our lack of affection toward the CVT transmission many times in other videos, Eddie Da Silva, so I guess Chris figured he'd give it a rest in this review. As was mentioned, the engine droned under power. Besides that, the transmission performed very similar to other CVTs on the market today, i.e. - good for fuel economy, but not much else in our opinion. Hope this helps. We appreciate your comments and thanks for watching, too!
Great review man, I have been seriously considering trading in my '17 Jeep Compass Sport for one of these. I've been wanting a 4 door hatchback for some time now. Anybody have any other good recommendations that would be a competitor for this class?
Thank you for your comments C. LeBlanc. And unfortunately, in response to your question, we can't think of any other true hatchbacks from luxury brands, other than BMW's GT models. On the lesser expensive end there are quite a few to choose from, some of which we've reviewed (Veloster, Mazda3, Civic, etc.). Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Also, I'd like to add the VW GTI, and Golf R hold their resale value a little better. This Lexus starts over 30g, but you can pick it up used for near half that now.
This car would have sold like hotcakes had they offered a 1.8 l turbo non hybrid version. Don't get me wrong I drive one but certainly miss the acceleration of a gas only engine but enjoy the mileage.
+Sadpants McGee Yeah, that comes across a little confusing, Sadpants McGee, which is why we added the caption on the bottom of the screen during that part. The 44.4 was the best overall average (since reset), where the 54.2 was the daily (1 day) average that AutoAcademics was able to achieve. We were very proud of that number, since Chris (our presenter) typically has bricks for feet. Hope this clears things up and thanks for watching!
+Sadpants McGee When I saw that I was curious. I thought it must mean best avg per tank. My Camry Hybrid automatically measure avg mpg per tank, but doesn't remember it.
Just off the top of our heads (i.e. - no hard data to refer to), we think this CT 200h might offer better piece of mind due to the Lexus brand's reliability record, Jeffrey van der Post. We haven't driven an A3 e-tron yet, but we do know that Audis drive very well, in general, so we'd expect nothing different from the e-tron. Sorry we couldn't be of more help, but thanks for watching!
That's difficult to say, Mikael Verstegen. Being a hybrid, we'd be curious how well the battery is maintaining its charge. If that can be checked out and verified that it's in good working condition then the rest would be usual pre-owned car stuff -- making sure mechanical/electrical bits are in good order and that the price is competitive with similar cars in your area. Sorry we can't help more, but thanks for watching!
I wouldn't be concerned about the battery as much as the egr system getting clogged at that mileage (pretty much the only problem with these cars). cost about 1k to swap out the parts. If you don't you risk blowing the head gasket.
right lets look a reviewing cars , but we know nothing about them .. i.e brakes , they use regen thats why they are like that !! mpg is low because you have to change your driving technique 40 mpg !!! my wife gets 34.4 out of a lexus is 250 auto !

As a sports car it's one of the worst options available. As an efficient reliable and comfortable go anywhere vehicle it's gotta be one of the best.
Alex Serrano dunno where u got sports from when it’s aimed at an economically friendly design
136 bhp isnt power for a sports car
Nice review! I like your style. You stand out in a good way from all the other review channels!
Thank you, Ross Moffitt. We appreciate your comments and thanks for watching!
Excellent sharing,
Thanks for watching!
it is a nice car with much better exterior than Prius. What are the known issues besides the premature failure of coolant pump?
Thanks
How's your gas mileage?
I bought a 2011 I did a engine swap now it makes 317hp it feel nice cruising down the freeway
Mines does the same thing. Like the transmission struggles.
I forgot to say, I love this guy reviews and this hot hatch looks amazing. if it were a 2.0T with 300hp
+Contane 21 That would be sweet! We appreciate you, as always, Contane 21!
Does this car have that smooth Lexus ride? Thanks for the video review!! The scenery is beautiful which city did you shoot this in?
The ride is smooth, Patrick Cowley, but it's tuned more toward the sporty side than the soft and luxurious side of the large LS. Also, we recorded this outside of Atlanta, GA. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@AutoAcademics I really appreciate you letting me know!! Also thanks for letting me know the location, that area is so beautiful and seems perfect for making videos, I need to see more of America. Wishing you all the best these Holidays!!
@@patrickwcowley You're very welcome. And thank you for the warm wishes. Happy holidays to you, too!
Great review, Chris!
Thanks for watching, Brian Eldridge!
ive had the car for over a year. i rate it 8/10 very bad blind spot though.. i average anywhere from 37 to 43mpg.. i wish they didnt discontinue it.. if they fix the blind spot, add blind spot monitoring and make the monitor bigger and better.. it would rate it 9/10 almost perfect..
im going to be trading it in soon.. the new camry gets 50 mpg..
I leased this car 8 months ago, and when this lease is up I will back for a new Lexus, i absolutely love it!!
+Mlegion1988 Many people have the same feelings as you do, Mlegion1988. They truly enjoy the CT. Thank you for sharing and for watching!
It's worth buying, if you keep it serviced it will last forever. I have a 2,000 is200 that looks and drives better than most new cars. I'm going to get an is300 next year and I'll pass the is200 on to my son , I expect it to last another 20 years because it's so well built.
Thanks for the upload. enjoyed the the review.
+sp1die Thank you for the kind words, sp1die. We're happy you liked our review and thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing and for watching, Shamsheer G!
Great review - I own a 2013 and the review is spot on in discussing the many pluses and very few minuses the car has. Want to echo the other comment that let's not understate how reliable and trouble free these cars are - peace of mind. Look forward to more reviews.
Thank you for the kind words, Ray O. We appreciate your support!
Great review:-):-)
I'm happy I saw this video, because I want to buy a hybrid car. Now I know what to buy. Thanks a lot!
this car is quite a shocker when you take it to autocross events
the chassis holds the speed well through the corners
While the CT 200h is a nice handling car, this is the first time we've heard about someone using it for autocrossing. Nice!
Thanks for watching!
darn good review and entertaining! nice job

I have a 2012 Fsport w 96k miles. It has a minor squeak in the front end when it's cold but other than that it's been perfect. I drive mostly highway and I average 53-55mpg in the summer and abt 47-49 in the cold winter months. Great vehicle.
Btw the Fsport handles as well as my Acura TL S-type.
Thank you for sharing, johnnypk1963. It's always nice to hear from actual owners. Thanks for watching!
I have the 2011
In a dark bluish gray, I painted the rims red and installed an underglow kit
Also I do landscaping outta my car every now and then
Nice! Thanks for watching, A A!
Wife has a Toyota matrix and we love the reliability of it so we may be doing a look into this lexus due to similar body style and because Toyota.
it should be a law that all vehicles should have rear vents. it is highly needed when our temp reaches 115 dry heat.
Good all-round review. Thanks.
Thank you, CarProductsTested!
My older brother just got 1.
Your a lot of fun, Chris. You know your stuff as well.
Thank you, Graeme Neville. While we try not to stroke Chris' ego too much, we'll let him know what you said... this time. LOL Thanks for watching!
I wish I had money to buy this amazing car
HERO IN BED they're pretty affordable right now. Just recently bought a used 2015 with 20k miles for 25k. In perfect condition
You don’t need money just get a job and get it finance maybe a used one will fit you budget
Thee are a steal pre-owned, with very clean, low mile (30k) examples available for $15-20k depending on year.
@@MrTmenzo bro. Right now I'm in mid 2020. I bought a 2016 with 17 k miles for 16k
I've watched this video 100 times because I want one but can't have one
Maybe 101 times will be the charm? LOL In all seriousness, Allison Litt, hang in there. If it's something that you want that bad, you'll figure out a way to accomplish it (hopefully, legally, that is). It may take a few sacrifices, but you can make it work. Just keep an eye on the preowned market. Something good that you can work with might just come up. Thank you 100x for watching!
Just got mine w 177k for $7 grand. '12 F sport
Shooter McGavin I’m thinking of getting one today , 2012 161,000 miles for 8,000 what you think ? It’s grey and black leather interior
Alfonso Gonzalez the miles seem kinda high! Is it an f sport?
Allison Litt I Bought it , it’s not F sport but it’s fully loaded, what does f Sport have ?
Why youtube recommended this to me in 2023. I don't have any car.. I ride motorcycle
This would be a good car to replace my parents aging Lexus ES 300. They don’t care about how fast it goes , how it handles , or how quick it gets to 60( practically takes forever), so this would be a good fit for them... because they aren’t car enthusiasts.
Besides the VW Golf & GTI, this is the only other hatchback I really like.
My 2012 doesn't have that brake issue. The regenerative to disc transition is nearly seamless. I can hear it when the radio and AC are off, but I can't really feel it unless the rotors are wet.
Thank you for sharing, ytmndan, and thanks for watching, too!
Nice breakdown!!I need one.
How's the top speed?
Does the vehicle shake at high speed?
At normal highway speeds the car is just fine, SON of Apollo. Didn't drive it much faster than that though. Thanks for watching!
125 miles and then the governor kicks in..
no its doesnt shake at high speeds..
Great review.
Thank you, Derek Long. And thanks for watching, too!
I love mine You just hit the stop start button and go
Thanks for watching, Breal1969!
Enjoyed the review! :)
I'm interested in buying this car used.
How is reliability on older models of the ct?
It's called brake assist. Before I got this car I got a Mercedes with BA and I stopped short the first few times but it's something you get used to.
This would have been such sweet ride with a FSR/BRZ engine and a six speed.
Ha! We can't argue with that, Ashrid Hussan. Unfortunately, the CT 200h is strictly a hybrid. But who knows what the future holds. Thank you for your comments and thanks for watching!
Yes I totally agree they need a better engine. The engine is shit.
What about with the is 350 engine
Have a 2014 Lexus CT200h
Bought it 3 years ago, and I absolutely love it.
Thanks for sharing and for watching, Gregory Mendoza!
Yes! Both my driver’s and passenger’s door lock actuators shit the bed. Lucky for me, they were covered under the L/Certified warranty. Mine’s a 2015. Seven years and 60,000 mi. in, it’s the _perfect_ commuting car, especially here in Southern California.
08:00 Learn how to use footbrake at parking

Would you recommend this hatchback for a new driver?
Saw one today!
Carleton, of course you are reviewing Hybrid luxury car's on youtube 20 years after Fresh Prince of Bellair. What else would you be doing?
Your definitely cool with it bro amazing your gangster 😂😂💪👏
Thanks for watching, Leeto!
This Is a great car. It looks nice and has that Toyota reliability!!!!
We'll be interested to hear your thoughts on its replacement, AbsoluteMdot. Stay tuned!
Absolutely love the CT2000H I just wish it had more HP. 98HP is too weak this day n age.
Cargo shorts? Common man. No pockets and above the knees! Good review though. Thumbs up.
LOL Thanks for watching, betitonator!
Must be nice having that money to buy new vehicles
Can they be serviced at Toyota dealerships, as I've read? I've got a couple used, in mind but nervous about basic service costs.

thank u review!
You are very welcome, NOMAD KYLE.KIM. Enjoy your car and thank you for your comments and for watching!

lateral dampers ? not on a business line i think ..only on a Fsport
I was hoping he would have talked more about the CVT transmission.
You can never have too much horsepower!! :-D
+su4scc Nope! Thanks for watching, (bro) su4scc!
Lol what horsepower lmao it's once of the weakest cars out there
You can do a engine swap and add a turbo or a supercharged
Volkswagen Golf R, or GTI.
Also, I'd like to add the VW GTI, and Golf R hold their resale value a little better. This Lexus starts over 30g, but you can pick it up used for near half that now.
wow like my old 1.9tdi or 2.0tdi disel with out E button
This car would have sold like hotcakes had they offered a 1.8 l turbo non hybrid version. Don't get me wrong I drive one but certainly miss the acceleration of a gas only engine but enjoy the mileage.
Possibly. We actually see a number of them in the Atlanta area, T Slaten. Enjoy yours and thanks for watching!
Best: 44.4 mpg / Average: 54.2 mpg - Uhh... what?
How would this lexus compare to a used audi a3 e-tron?
Just off the top of our heads (i.e. - no hard data to refer to), we think this CT 200h might offer better piece of mind due to the Lexus brand's reliability record, Jeffrey van der Post. We haven't driven an A3 e-tron yet, but we do know that Audis drive very well, in general, so we'd expect nothing different from the e-tron. Sorry we couldn't be of more help, but thanks for watching!
i like it i will buy for one
Would you recommend buying a 2011 with 127k mils for $9k?
That's difficult to say, Mikael Verstegen. Being a hybrid, we'd be curious how well the battery is maintaining its charge. If that can be checked out and verified that it's in good working condition then the rest would be usual pre-owned car stuff -- making sure mechanical/electrical bits are in good order and that the price is competitive with similar cars in your area. Sorry we can't help more, but thanks for watching!
I wouldn't be concerned about the battery as much as the egr system getting clogged at that mileage (pretty much the only problem with these cars). cost about 1k to swap out the parts. If you don't you risk blowing the head gasket.
thanks.
I had the premium package.
Bruce Leroy how was the performance aspect of this car? I've never had experience with a hybrid style power plant before...
@@LuziannMan Best car I've ever drove. First car was a 2007 Mitsubishi eclipse.

I gotta ask does any one know the difference between a 2015 and a 2017????
Better fuel mileage
right lets look a reviewing cars , but we know nothing about them .. i.e brakes , they use regen thats why they are like that !! mpg is low because you have to change your driving technique 40 mpg !!! my wife gets 34.4 out of a lexus is 250 auto !
oh shit somebody other than me that sill listens to Case
