The B mode does not charge the battery. It basically adjusts the CVT transmission to simulate a lower gear, which is only useful when going down extended mountain passes to avoid using the brakes too much. The brakes are what charge the hybrid battery. Using B mode will throw the energy away, but will prevent the brakes from over use or getting too hot. When you go down extended passes, the Battery will likely fill up from braking anyway, so any additional braking will only wear at the brakes, which are not particularly designed for heavy use, especially once the regeneration is disabled from a full battery

Hi JJ. This is possibly one of the fairest reviews of the CT200H that I've seen (sorry Matt, no offence). Had mine for close on 3 years and it's totally reliable, I average 57mpg (yes, that's the average over my ownership) and once you get used to the CVT it's pretty enjoyable to drive. It definitely is a different driving experience but once you're into it, it's great. The best way I can describe the acceleration characteristic is that it's a bit like piloting a small motor boat...the engine revs up and the propeller does its stuff at the rear and then the boat catches up with it. In summary, love mine and would definitely have another.
Thanks John. That is very impressive mpg for an average figure! You're right, you do have to adopt a different style of driving for sure - the motorboat is a great analogy :)

A person with a heavy foot, eco mode drives "normal to me". Although its a prius engine when I step on the gas I feel the car pushing me back to my seat and the constant acceleration (LOL). I came from a Hyundai Veloster. I enjoy the suspension system, but has a tendency to feel like a boat during "spirted driving" when turning (yeah, i know i know....lol)
That's interesting - I believe the eco mode was designed for people with a heavy right foot, so it's probably helping your fuel economy :)
The Hyundai Veloster is always a car that has interested me, I hope I'll get one on here at some point
Just bought a 2015 CT 200h advance for my wife. Looks great. I enjoy driving it but it feels so low compared to my Alphard.
I have a company Yaris for work, an MR2 Spyder for fun, and a CT200H for comfort. No complaints here. BTW the interior is beige, and I think it sold me on this car up against the dark gloom of the black on black.
I like the beige interior in a black car too. Definitely suits the CT200. Nice collection you have!
As you rightly said (great review by the way) nice place to be….which is a good thing, as they as so slow, your in it for a long time…. On average you can add, 15 minutes to an hour journey….
Is good to buy a second hand CT200 from 2012-13 with 100k mileage?
The only thing im worried is that if I could end eating all hybrid battery peoblems or not?
Lexus fixed all of the know problems when introducing the 2014 model. Don't buy an earlier version.
My 2019 CT is taxed at 140£
Gets me 66-67 mpg in summer and 57 in winter
Aye, sadly after April 2017 it got expensive
That's good going in the summer.
Sadly, they stopped making it in USA. I bought a 2016, and when I found out they were going to stop making it, I went and got me a white F-sport 2017. I only get 40 mpg the way I drive it.
@@AM-bw7hv remember 40mpg in US is equivalent to 48mpg in UK using imperial gallons. 48 is poor though, i personally wouldn't bother with a ct if i were getting that, a diesel would probably be better for you but i don't know what options you have their in n. america
Looking at Autotrader some CT200 have a joystick/pad where this one has a storage area. And both variations at SE-L models, at least according to the ads. I'm puzzled by this.
I love Lexi, they're like the Japanese Mercedes
😂
The urge to quote Partridge in the video was almost irresistible. But I'm pretty sure every Lexus review since 2001 has mentioned him so I battled the urge 😄
I was wearing some Tommy Hilfinger though, but it doesn't come across so well in the video medium 🤷♂️
@@JJonCars smelled like Lynx Java to me. Nice vid :-)
In off the red!
Briljant little car
How would this car be in terms of comfortability for someone tall around 6’5?
I don't remember exactly how much space there was, but I do remember it not feeling the most spacious car. Worth seeing if you can sit in one.
Great video, my dad had a 2019 CT 200h. Very stiff ride and unLexus like. However it was economical
Cheers :) Yeah they're a bit 'sporty' for Lexus
@@JJonCars they are, my dad loved his when he had it. However compared to my mother's IS 300h, the ride quality is night and day. Cool hatchback though
The interiors of these cars is far superior to it's German equivalents.
I certainly prefer the interior to the A5 Sportback that I reviewed recently. Much more interesting.
@@JJonCars
But Audi drivers are the new cocks according to Clarkson.
Audi’s are like coffins inside black and dour
Tomorrow I will own one😊
Nice, enjoy!
Thank you@@JJonCars
Rather chuffed with this piece of kit👌🏻
I was considering a 2017 CT200h or a 2020 Mazda 3 hatch back in 2020 and i got the Mazda instead. I still wonder how I'd like the CT200h after 3 years.
I do like the newer Mazdas, nice looking cars.
@@JJonCarsI definitely agree. The Mazda 3 hatch has a great interior and feels great to drive. Not to mention the sound system. However, I don't think I'd regret driving the CT200h either 😌
Do not buy Mazda. Might as well buy a Ford.
Can you fit a spare wheel in that storage compartment in the boot?
I think you can get a 'space saver' spare wheel under the boot floor 👍
Had one of these for work for a day up to Scotland once. Really nice car but I thought the ride was too firm, I felt every bit of the road surface.
Yeah true, it's too firm given how the rest of the car is, doesn't match so well
Nothing wrong with the CVT, we are on our third car with a CVT transmission and they're brilliant.
Depends what you want from it really! They do work well for getting decent fuel economy.
Most of the people who buy these have no interest in 0 - 60 times. They just want a reliable economic car to run.
I do like these if you want just want a nice easy drive to work with excellent mpg
Spot on
I just want to own a Lexus someday guess what I bought my first Lexus CT200h. My first hatchback car. Beautifully done Lexus🫡
Congrats!
@@JJonCars thanks man
I gave mine to my wife. I bought a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder for me. Ver quiet and wide leather seats. In fact. all leather interior. We are both happy now.
That reverse beep would drive me crazy.
i got lexus in Edgeware to switch mine off for free at the last service
How tall are you so I can get a gist of how much space there is?
I am just slightly over 6 foot - 184cm
Good car for me 🙂👍🏻
Good to hear Marek, dziekuje!
I was convinced to buy mine. I have a 2013 and the 2011 looks exactly the same. Anyways I fell in like😂 with my lil CT.
How’s it going and what’s the mileage?
Jesus handles, that was a good one!
LOL. I thought that's what they called them in Europe.
I liked that one too. My wife grabs hers all of the time.
Wanted to buy one but I am almost 2 meters and my legs are hugging the steeringwheel
First few minutes you tell how quiet the car is while we hear every bump on the road...
This is currently on top of my list of cars to buy. I want a premium brand but don’t wanna hang out with a mechanic as every now and then your car keepa breaking (which is usual in BMWs and Mercs, sorry german performance fanboys). Hopefully I’ll find one in good condition.
Ha yep, can't beat Lexus build quality. Good luck with your search
Thanks for a fantastic review 😀 I am seriously considering buying one. Can anybody shed some light on boot space? Got a baby on the way so will need a pram & other baby stuff to comfortably fit. Ta
Thanks, you're welcome! I don't remember it being the biggest boot going tbh. Nice car though, if you can manage to fit all your stuff in it!
If you put the back seats down, you have a lot of space. But where will you put the baby?
Thanks for replies. Purchased an IS300h in the end.
@@mariosavva999 Ah nice! A more up-to-date car than the CT200h. Enjoy
2015 and above hood
It’s a great car. But, it’s built on a Toyota Matrix platform, not a Prius.
Apparently we are both right - the platform is both Matrix and Prius (and a lot of other cars too). The drivetrain is Prius
❤
Cvt are fine for normal driving but who guys a Prius powered car to drive fast?
Yep, you're right - but the car was designed to look sporty, the ride is reasonably firm, and it handles quite well. So it does seem slightly at odds with the drivetrain. But overall, it does work as it's really economical and quiet and definitely a car I can recommend :)
If you think the ct200 is a prius, then you don't know anything about car designs.
@@AM-bw7hv same engine and gearbox
Would you take this or the Prius ?
I'd take the CT200h personally. It's more interesting and luxurious but still has the fuel economy of the Prius
1:30 'luxury, compact..' and you dont know why they used Kylie Minogue? 😂
Haha, good point! 😂
Didn't know they had that eV only mode button, hardly seems worth it with those tiny batteries 🤔.
Yep, one mile maximum, and I couldn't even get it to turn on haha, kept saying not enough battery charge 😄
It's for moving around short distances without having to start the petrol engine or to not wake neighbours in the morning etc. Maybe Japanese think of such things but Westerners do not care
It's a posh Corolla hybrid before they were a thing
Head gasket vids scared me away
You can scare yourself about any car if you spend enough time on the internet! haha
Miles? Gallons? You guys still hunt dinosaurs or what?
Yeah, I don't know why we still use them. We fill our cars up with litres and then try and figure out the miles per gallon....
So many complaints on this car.. Engine noise, low body that scratches in bump easily, poor design quality that makes rain water entering inside the car.. That is why they stopped the production..
Totally inaccurate,it’s not why they stopped production,it’s the replacement Lexus ux200 that stopped it.
The MPG rating in the video is incorrect. They did not convert to KPG. My car gets 44 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway. that is because the car uses the battery in the city, but not on the highway.
Спасибо, отличный обзор. Хочу себе такой автомобиль. Какая стоимость нового оригинального аккумулятора?
Спасибо. К сожалению, я не знаю цену аккумулятора.
