However, it’s a fun driver and does great on gas. My only complaints are visibility (from my perspective the rearview mirror takes up much of the windshields visibility space) and mechanical issues. My brake boosters went bad and needed to be replaced, which is a problem that happens on the Prius as well as the CT, seemingly randomly and at any mileage. It ended up costing around $2700 USD to fix it at a local mechanic shop, and would have cost even more at a Lexus dealership. Anyway, 70k miles and counting!

My ex had one and someone hit his bumper in a hit n run, leaving a huge dent. It sat in the sun and heat and popped itself out overnight. I thought it was magic. I test drove one and I don’t sit in it too nicely (5’5”, small windows) but I’m still buying one and giving my dad my Prius for backup.
Ive got one and its great. Very well made and comfortable. Just starting to see more of them on the road as its very economic and gets in the LEZ zone in the city.

Ask for service record from last service. Should be there the battery health check and warranty

I had a 2013 CT 200h and loved it. Bought it used at 13k miles and lasted until 185,000 when the common timing chain cover oil leak issue started and then head gasket went. Other than normal maintenance and tires it was an amazing car, looked great, drove quick enough and comfortable for long drives. Before that I had a 2009 3 series and I couldn't believe all the issues that happened before 100k miles. Lexus is my only car company now,.
I own a 2015 F Sport as my daily and I'm very satisfied. It's not fast, but it's quick and super responsive, the chassis is great and it handles very good. But I suggest Japanese tires to have a bit of fun. When I got it she was wearing Yokohama touring tires, I didn't like ti so I put on some Continental and the car became super boring, predictable...great tires but not fun at all. I want to put some Toyo like I had on my previous car to see if it becomes livelier. I installed Apple CarPlay and Android Auto kit on mine and it works pretty good.
completely underplayed the common problems. Early models very much had oil burning problems, which lead to EGR problems. If you don't keep it serviced, your guaranteed to blow a head gasket, and the first sign is that shakey engine start.
I wrecked my 2010 Honda Insight EX (second one after the first one was destroyed by baseball-sized hail after one year). I enjoyed my Insight. I immediately found a 2014 Lexus CT200h Base model with low miles for a great price. I have had it six months now. It may be based on a Prius, and I have driven a Prius, but it drives completely differently and I love it. I am getting slightly better fuel economy in my CT than I was getting in my Insight. Also being right-handed (and American) the joystick is placed perfectly for me.
You should have a great motoring journey in it, I owned one quite a few years ago, gave / sold it to a family member .. still going brilliantly! Have been driving Lexus cars since 2008 after years of problematic German ones, best decision I ever made … you enjoy your CT ! 👍

I just want to say, I feel like Jim gave the impression that the eCVT is similar to a regular CVT, when mechanically they are a completely different beast, it's completely different from both CVTs and traditional automatic transmissions.
If I was going to buy a hybrid this is a car I'd consider providing it ticks all the boxes for me. I have to admit the slightly bigger grill looks better on it with standard wheels compared to the smaller grill. Overall it was a suprise car to be reviewed today buy a pleasant one at that and gives people plenty to mull over. Great work as always guys, keep up the good work and look forward to next week's videos as per usual 👍.
Back in the day the trade marks of "CT300h" and "CT400h" was also registerd. The engine bay should be more or less the same as E15/E18 Corolla hatches. Comparing these to the Blade/Blade Master, you will realise the CT300h will be the 2.4 2AZ and the CT400h will be the 3.5 2GR.
I bought one 4 years ago and hasn't had any trouble. I am not a sporty driver and never in a hurry and this car suits me fine. If you have any sporty ambitions, forget this car. It wasn't made for it. Mine has 140.000 kms and so far doesn't consume any oil. It is a great comfy car and economical. I choose the Lexus because the interior was better made than the Toyota.
yes the toyota interiour is pretty cheap, sadly we needed a station wagon design and only the auris is available as a station wagon. sometimes I wish it had more power especialy on the autobahn were im sometimes getting bullied by BMW or Audi drivers.😅
I have one ’14 in red. It is not fast but it is comfortable for long distance trips.. its quite rare so there are definitely more boring options out there :)
I test drove one of these yesterday, and checked out the AC. I was impressed by how powerful and yet quiet the AC was. It wasn't a super hot day (autumn here now), but the air came out cold, fast, and quiet.

I have a 2014 CT200H. It is very reliable. It currently has 132k miles. I expect to get 300K because I take very good care of my cars. So now that I am retired my wife drives it 4k miles/year. So it will last 42 years! That means my 6 year old daughter will inherit it in 10 years. If she takes care of it she will never need another car. Thank you Lexus!

Have had one for the wife for a few years now. Great cars handle great but it is under powered. The door trim scrunchieness is a common issue but other than that faultless!
I really tried to get my ex to buy an early one of these instead of a mk6 golf but she got her way in the end and its been a nightmare for her since but she had to have euro.
You brought up a good point about the Hybrids they are good for the environment and been from Toyota they will last a very long time and the longer a car lasts either petrol or hybrid it is so much better for the environment than a brand knew EV
The headgasket issue is not isolated. It is one of the biggest problems with older prius and CT models. Almost guaranteed your headgasket will blow at some point but usually its already past 100k+.
The violent shaking in cold climates is a sign that the engine is shuttering from a blown head gasket. Almost can guarantee that's what it is if there is shutter from a cold start. Just happened to our CT.
It's not really based on a Prius, but on an Auris. The engine is all that it has in common with the Prius, as far as I know. Nevertheless, thanks for the excellent review, as always!
Was looking at one of these as my next car as I'd like something a bit more premium but still cheap to run and easy to park...if it had ventilated seats to make Aussie summers a bit more bearable it'd be a no-brainer.
@@driveforsanity pick-up is very good, especially in city driving thanks to electric motors transferring torque to the wheels immediately. Handling is great for me as well, not worse than BMW 3 F30, thanks to RWD, long wheelbase, responsive steering and 50/50 weight split between rear and front due to batteries in the rear. I also like low sitting position which is very comfortable on longer trips and short turning radius, which is useful in city driving. It’s also very economical for its power, my average fuel consumption is 6,5L/100km and I’m not a slow driver, in that case it would be lower. All in all, great package and very underrated car for what it offers.
I’ve had one for 4 years. Done 80k miles no issues. Only changed tyres, brakes, recharged aircon once and one annual oil change. Also get well over 40 mpg.

gen3 engines have a very big tendency to blow the headgasket. This repair is being done by hundreds throughout the world everyday. Personally I would avoid anything with gen3 engine and just go with gen4.
Would you please review a current gen Mazda 3!! Its beautiful to look at, especially how the red colour, when the sun reflects on!! Gorgeous car, planning to buy one!
With this power and size of the booth is mostly for city driving. But for the same price, you can get a bigger, more powerful car, that you drive on the highway as well.
It pisses me off how much better the international version of this car is than the US one. Idk why they cheaped out. We never got the ML sound system and a handful of other nice to have features.
Just letting you know, I bought this car three months ago and it has 140,000 miles on it and it has a blown head gasket.. the third generation Prius is included with these issues so just beware and make sure that it’s either been serviced already for a new head gasket or check inside the cylinders and look at piston to make sure they have carbon buildup on each one of them or the head gasket is blown and what states.
@@mikegiaffoglione954 thanks for the tip, I’m moving on from the Lexus at this stage. The newer 2019+ Toyota hybrids I hear are much more reliable as the whole hybrid system is better developed. Unfortunate that this line got left behind.. it is quite a handsome car

Lexus just released a vehicle based on I believe Corolla Cross, the LBX. It comes as a 3cyl hybrid. Not quite CT sized but that's about as small as the luxury segment goes nowadays unless you want an Audi A1

Its not the greatest car ever made but i remebe back in 2014 my dad got a facelift one and i was blown away as before this my family had mondeos. Ill always love these cars
I think I have said it quite a few times, get the Lexus. They really do look the business with bigger wheels and a lowering kit. But then I am 78 years old and maybe what I think looks good is not what you think looks good. But you are wrong. Thanks guys, another informative entertaining video. Legend!
I'm honestly kinda surprised you haven't reviewed a standard Ford Fiesta yet, not the ST, great video as always!
Great idea on doing podcast style on the safety features! Definitely helped make it entertaining
The Safety Tech ditties get funnier all the time! I like the CT because it’s just different from all the yawn worthy Audis and BMWs that litter the roads. And Lexus customer service is amazing. Great video
How do you like it so far? I’m thinking about getting a 2013 one.
I like this Lexus more and more - I think it aged wonderfully. Looks premium, beautiful and affordable.
Ive got one and its great. Very well made and comfortable. Just starting to see more of them on the road as its very economic and gets in the LEZ zone in the city.
My wife bought one new 4 years ago and it’s still good. No fireball but very quick out of T- junctions as no clutch drag in acceleration!
You guys are absolute champs. The fact that you not only provide free info on your cheatsheets, you also did the research AND provided a Reddit link? Legends.
2011 ct owners here. 140k miles - no problems . Extremely reliable.
Did you buy it used?
@@wakawaka1976 yes I bought it on 46k miles. I am second owner. 8 years ago.
@@Istroops was considering one for my kid but I’m worried about the battery. The ones in our price range are the same age as yours and more miles. Thanks for the reply
@@wakawaka1976 battery is not something to worry because you can’t rely for autonomous driving on it. It helps only to give you better gas mileage. Every year when I service the car at Lexus dealership , they give me 1 extra year warranty on the battery and they check battery health check so it’s very easy to check your concern about the battery. Ask for service record from last service. Should be there the battery health check and warranty
@@wakawaka1976 my only advice is to check if the car was serviced regularly at Lexus dealer. I think it’s perfect for kid because it’s safe, reliable and not fast at all so he will have hard time if his foot is heavy
You guys always put so much effort in to your reviews, bloody good job. 👍
Thanks so much mate. Glad you like them!
I installed Apple CarPlay and Android Auto kit on mine and it works pretty good.
man i been drooling over that n14 SSS pulsar in the back, oh baby ! i can hardly find a good one these days without paying a fortune.
completely underplayed the common problems.
Just bought one in Sydney yesterday 😊
How has the reliability been? Any major issues? How do you find the ride quality? Getting good mpg? What's it like on long journeys? You any regrets?
My condolences.
@@robovac3557laugh😂
@@robovac3557he bought it yesterday dude 😂 how can he answer those questions?
You should have a great motoring journey in it, I owned one quite a few years ago, gave / sold it to a family member .. still going brilliantly! Have been driving Lexus cars since 2008 after years of problematic German ones, best decision I ever made … you enjoy your CT ! 👍
Sorry to hear that mate. I have the 2013 model since 2016 and the only thing i do is service, change tyres and MOT every year (without any issues) drove to Europe (Belgium , Germany and around Czech Republic) i know it’s a small car but if you are really good you can fit a lot in the boot and folding back seats. My daughter went to Uni this year and I managed to fit all her stuff that she needs , but I was thinking of selling it and buy a 4x4 or larger vehicle, but I’ll keep it for my daughter since she passed her test recently. I’ve driven many different types of vehicle but this has to be one of the best reliable car I’ve owned.
As a car guy, thus is now my new dream car
I would only swap the grill with the older ones
@@sinphus In the Netherlands, the max speed between 06:00 and 19:00 is 100 kph. Outside of the times, it is 130kph.
@@PieterBreda so perfect for the hybrid system
@@sinphus Indeed
I have one ’14 in red. It is not fast but it is comfortable for long distance trips.. its quite rare so there are definitely more boring options out there :)
I know it sounds weird, but can you review the AC of each vehicle? Very important with our hot oz summers!
I test drove one of these yesterday, and checked out the AC. I was impressed by how powerful and yet quiet the AC was. It wasn't a super hot day (autumn here now), but the air came out cold, fast, and quiet.
I can tell you the AC is inadequate for the darker colors. Take about 5 minutes to cool mine down. I should have bought the Pearl White.
I have 2013 Advance Model, 98000 miles, so far, so good. Have only ever replaced brakes and tyres. Has dealer history. Hope it'll be good for a few years yet.
Wake up babe, CT200h vid is up!
😅😅😅
This genuinely made me fully laugh out loud 😂. Best comment!
early engines had head gasket issues at high mileage (120k +)
Early engines? Until what year?
@@agenorzcsupposedly it's from the 2012-14 model years
2011 is okay? I found a dealership and they have two cars. One is a 2011 model with 110k miles, and the other is a 2014 model with 140k miles. Both are at the same price. What do you suggest?
Our lexus dealer replaced our 2013’s wiper blades for £15! In bolton uk
Very good effort for mentioning the Android Auto/Carplay thing and thanks for providing the thread.
Love the classical safety system and Jim talking Bach, the car looks good too 😊
I have a 2014 CT200H.
I’m thinking a tutor vid from Jim on basic maintenance and classic car reviews, a challenge to bring to you the registered car with the most mileage on original everything!! 😮 so much scope to this channel tell
Everyone about it, carewow is watched after a redriven repeat now😂😂
like most online reviews, over critical of elements that dont actually matter.. overall its a great car. like everything though, has pros and cons
Have had one for the wife for a few years now. Great cars handle great but it is under powered. The door trim scrunchieness is a common issue but other than that faultless!
Wow Adam.... Mate you should see yourself in that driving seat! Dude that car looks like it was designed around you!! 😊

I'm still waiting to hear from you guys about my 2015 Lexus RC 350 F sport and my 2016 lexus RX 450h f sport. Both brilliant cars.
Thank you for posting. Excellent info.
Them AirMax 90s are fire son
The headgasket issue is not isolated. It is one of the biggest problems with older prius and CT models. Almost guaranteed your headgasket will blow at some point but usually its already past 100k+.
Where's the apple carplay reddit link?
Not in the description :D
Damn these in blue and f sport trim looks so good. Saddly for its lacking little bit of power... Only if they had more "hot hatchback motor" in it...
The violent shaking in cold climates is a sign that the engine is shuttering from a blown head gasket. Almost can guarantee that's what it is if there is shutter from a cold start. Just happened to our CT.
What year is yours?
@@sparkylarry9999 2013. Notorious for those problems.
Tony, the owner may be a legend, but that gear shifter is a shocker.
Re wiper blades, OEM blades for Toyota/Lexus.....not that spendy
Where is the reddit link for the head unit upgrade?
its funny how EVERY video on RUclips blames a clogged EGR with causing head gasket failure and Jim blames the water pump.
They do require frequent engine oil changes to live long trouble free lives. If you love yours, double the oil change intervals.
Be good if you guys could get your hands on an is300h, been interested in one of those for a little while.
I have one since I bought it new in 2021 and it’s been bloody great. I also have NX300h but I very much prefer driving my IS300h.
They do seem like a pretty good package all round really. How do you find the pick-up and handling?
Thanks for the reply, very helpful.
I’ve had one for 4 years. Done 80k miles no issues. Only changed tyres, brakes, recharged aircon once and one annual oil change. Also get well over 40 mpg.
Use to own one hated the cvt made the car boring to drive but the exterior of these Lexus do look good though
bought one couple months ago. really love it!
I live in Seattle and if you drive through deep puddles the head gasket will get water in it like no other car I've driven, also a nightmare to repair underneath on your own. Overall I love it, but has its gimmicks
12:07 - the material on those doors. What the hell man...💀
would appreciate it if you guys go into the space available for the driver's seat. I'm 196cm so knowing the seating position and legroom is the most important factor to me
Lexus car is best car in the world - one day will buy lexus card whether is it hatchbach or sedan car
Went to Driva for a quote, and they don't do loans for people on pensions etc, I also didn't get a fuel voucher.
The fuel vouchers come following a settled loan
i bought one last week and it's just a beatiful car
You still enjoying the car? Been looking into picking one up myself
@PrimeKeroHS let's put it this way you if you just want a cruiser save bit on fuel it's not roomey enough! For 4 people it's a small car which I can't seem to get use to I'm going to upgrade to a tesla soon
For good reliable cars only ever buy Honda, Mazda and Lexus. Some of the Hondas or Lexi can be a little lacking in the engaging driving arena, but they do have more enthusiast orientated models.
@ReDriven - Been watching Ur vidz for awhile now... I like the format, the variety of the cars you have on review and it's entertaining... You should do a motorbike version of ReDriven... ReRidden, maybe?!?!
gen3 engines have a very big tendency to blow the headgasket. This repair is being done by hundreds throughout the world everyday. Personally I would avoid anything with gen3 engine and just go with gen4.
What year does gen 4 start ?
Would you please review a current gen Mazda 3!! Its beautiful to look at, especially how the red colour, when the sun reflects on!! Gorgeous car, planning to buy one!
With this power and size of the booth is mostly for city driving. But for the same price, you can get a bigger, more powerful car, that you drive on the highway as well.
It’s not , I had one , it’s great on long country drives … and that fuel economy is 👍👍👍👍
It pisses me off how much better the international version of this car is than the US one. Idk why they cheaped out. We never got the ML sound system and a handful of other nice to have features.
I was literally about to ask for a review for this!
@@TheArvinM yes because I’ve gone through two hybrids both 2012s and they did nothing but disappoint me.. I just wish somebody would give me a heads up before I bought them but lesson learned

It’s a really good looking car, reminds me of their sport back is300

Have a 2013 ct200 had to replace the engine at 145000 miles due to coolant leaking into engine
I like the classical music radio bit, that means am in the demographic?
Would it be good for a beginner's first car?
You guys should review the d22 nissan navara since it's the most common first tradie ute most young buyers can afford !
Idk why I like this car so much .
That shift knob, wth is that thing? It’s horrible!
They should repackage the new Prius and remake the CT200h, would be a hit.
Lexus just released a vehicle based on I believe Corolla Cross, the LBX. It comes as a 3cyl hybrid.
Not quite CT sized but that's about as small as the luxury segment goes nowadays unless you want an Audi A1
Lexus UX
Just replace the bulbs with LEDs and you won’t have any issues with headlights.
Just curious as to why there are a few people saying headgasket failures? Are they not charging the coolant every 90k? Or is the water pump failure mixing with the oil and people arent noticing ?
