If you want a sportscar...do not buy a CT200. If you want a big car... Dont buy a CT200. But... If you want to buy a good car... A confortable car.. A luxury car... Buy the CT200. You will have an exellent car.
Reliability is perfect. I have this car now 2 years and i never had a problem, even not small one. Also maintenance of this car is cheap. The best car I ever had until now.
Several years ago I bought a 2011 CT200h. It now has 135,000 miles on it. Other than brake pads/rotors and periodic oil changes, I've had no problems at all! Hands down, most reliable car I have ever owned. Yes it can be annoyingly slow; whenever I need to merge onto a freeway, I dial the car the car into sport mode, then put it back into eco mode. The car is meant to be driven smoothly, maximizing fuel consumption. And yes for the record, I have white hair!
I don’t think the ride is smooth, the tire pressure setting is too high imo. Even with the 16 inch wheels it rides kinda harsh. I get it it’s for economy, maybe the next set of tires will change it.
@@Cloud007. you have one? I had a Prius and the chair itself is manufactured in a strange, tucked in position that feels very unnatural. Curious to know if the CT is the same.
I bought a used 2013 CT Premier S @ 24k miles about a year ago and I absolutely love it. One of the best things about it, as you touched on in the video, is how it encourages you to drive in a state of zen like meditation while trying to maximize your average mpg. Which at the same time results in a very pleasant and comfortable ride, it's like the car tells you how it wants to be driven and if you work with it, it's an absolute pleasure. Even the voice of the satnav lady is calming. I doubt anyone driving a CT has ever had road rage. A couple of minor issues though: - I find the seat horrible. My daily commute is just over an hour each way and by the end of it I invariably have back ache. I bought a lumbar support which helps a little but it's still uncomfortable. - The rear passenger electric window seems to have lost it's zero point and thinks it's home position is 2/3rds of the way down. To close it I have to manually creep it up until it reaches the seal, but if I go 1mm too far it takes itself back down to 2/3 and I have to start over. - I think a little bit of plastic has broken off inside the indicator stem and sometimes when I switch from right to left indicator, eg when coming off a roundabout, I hear the most horrible sounding crunch. One time it must have got stuck in the wrong place and I couldn't turn the left indicator off again. - The cruise control doesn't know about the assisted-braking mode. If you turn cruise control on whilst in B it confuses the hell out of itself. The other factor that was a big plus for me was the safety rating and the fact that it has something like a dozen air bags. Often having young children in the back this was a primary concern and the CT ticked the box. I'm surprised you had to change the brake pads. As I understand it, when you brake mildly it actually just engages the generator to slow down the car and recharge the battery. It's only when you brake harshly that it engages the physical brakes. As a result, if you drive it well, the brake pads will last basically forever. Lastly, I'm 34 and only a tiny bit grey :)
Hi, they're great cars. I loved mine. It doesn't make sense, because I shouldn't like this kind of car, but its so calming and relaxing. That has just made a lot of sense about the comfort of the drivers seat. For the last year I've had a bad back, which I blamed on my mattress, but Ive not had any pain since I sold the CT - that must have been the culprit and I had no idea!! One thing that annoyed me slightly about the indicators was that they didn't have that feature that most cars have nowadays where if you tap them, they stay on for a couple of clicks for a lane change. Its a small issue but I was surprised that a Lexus didn't have that feature. Overall though it was a pleasure to own, and Id probably have another
100% I have 45k on my car. I work at a Honda dealership and most Hondas need brakes around this time. Had mine checked yesterday and are still at 60%. So nice!
Just saw this, I bought mine a 2014 3 years ago with 57,000 miles and factory brakes. I now have 153000 miles and the mechanic says my brakes are still in great shape. I love the car for all the long distance driving I do. The only thing I've had to do is standard maintenance.
I've seen a lot of reviews, but never seen a review like this (in a positive way) Very honest, normal behaviour. I have the same car and you described exactly what I feel. Really, thumbs up mate.
Bought my Lexus a week ago, love it so far! I find myself driving much more mindfully, cruising around without rushing, just enjoying the ride in the beautiful interior and keeping the EV light on as long as i can 😁
I bought one today, and like you, IDK WHY, but I am happy with my purchase! I live 40 miles N of Houston, TX and drive into Houston for work in the Texas Medical Center. My other considerations were an Audi A3, Mercedes C Class, BMW i3....I have had a Prius before, loved it, but like you, I am not an organic vegan, granola eating yuppie to be fund wrapped around a tree! Ultimately, it is practical and like me! We are older, pretty on the inside and we have miles behind us with a lot more miles to travel! BTW my last car which was a total loss in a car collision was a Miata! I love your humor and your video review is on-point!
@@thegame123ize Well, Prius will gives you spontaneous mpg and more stuff and people to carry. But on Canyon and with top down; wind blowing in your face. That's priceless. 3rd gen has same engine I think 1.8l so, Miata is known for light weight sport car. Toss around like go carts and smiling going through turns make you doesn't want to sell it.
Bought a CT200h today after watching this - was worried about the "firm" ride but completely agree with you - it's perfectly comfortable unless you're coming from a S500. If you want something with power, there's plenty else out there. But as an all rounder, absolutely fantastic and delighted - cheers for reviewing HPA!
Would you say there's enough leg room in the back for the CT 200H to be used as a private hire vehicle? They are much better looking than the Prius and run on the same hybrid system.
.................................. OUCH th BAD Euro S500................Only gets you to the PREMIUM gas station and to Service department ...and then NOT in comfort as the wallet is now to thin!
I think this is going to feel like a Ferrari if I switch to it from my 1.0 manual Yaris with it's allmighty 63 horsepower. Gotta love the Toyota reliability!
I have Yaris 2008 1.3l petrol did 50k miles on it since I bought it at 2016 and never had any problems apart left rear wheel bearing which becomes noisy so I have to replace it for 120£ and that's it. Also thinking of buying ct200h but 2yar old with 20k miles and I am 38 at the moment not that old I think. 😃
that yaris may be about the same power to weight ratio as it will be about half the power at 63bhp to 800kg for the manual while the lexus 139 bhp but almost double the weight about 14 or 1500kg
Had the CT when it first came out, and then upgraded to the 2017 F-Sport version (wanted that revised look with the spindle grille) and got rid of it for a damn RAV4 SUV SE Hybrid...and although it had more leg room in the rear, I simply wasn't a fan of how it drove. Switched back to the 1st gen CT in the F-Sport Special Edition trim and extremely happy with the decision. As you pointed out, it's extremely sluggish on acceleration and trying to overpass anyone on an on-ramp is next to impossible, but I've found that once you get it up to speed and build some momentum, it behaves really well at higher speeds - especially in Sport Mode. Great review!
How bad is the power actually sir??! all of you guys pointed out this flaw! i am considering switching from my 2009 1.9tdi VW golf mk5 estate with 105ps, and those 105 horses were more than fine for me to be honest..i also drove a baseline BMW 316i F30 with 136ps which felt enough powerful but the maintenance was expensive like all BMWs, so how sluggish is the CT??
@@cortex1347 Well to start let me just say that I've never driven the VW TDI or the BMW you had, but, considering the horsepower numbers appear to be somewhat similar I can say with confidence that CT isn't going to win any 0-60 times, however, it is peppy in Sport Mode and once it's up to speed I've personally never had any issues doing triple digits. It is a slug from a dead stop and merging power is lacking - I have noticed there is a "sweet spot" in the rev range that would help that out....just takes some getting used to. I found myself ignoring the lack of power from the solid MPGs and combination of nimble handling.
Yes, I thought he was wrong about the sport mode. My wife has one of these and loves it. I like to drive it too and it’s only let her down once: that was earlier this week when we had a cold morning and the 12v battery was struggling. It started eventually and I’ll change the battery tomorrow. It’s in the boot like my old mini!
I bought a 2016 off a 3 year lease last December and I love this car. Mine is ultrasonic blue with the F-Sport package. I previously owned a Prius for almost 15 years and while I loved her too, this is a huge step up with so much more comfort.
Hi, How does the CT 200H compare with the Prius for back seat leg room? Would you say the CT 200h has enough back seat leg room to be used as a private hire vehicle? Thanks
I feel that the main problem with this car was the entry price. For a top spec version in the UK they were around £30,000, which is too much when you consider what you’re actually buying… the used market for these are popping and they do retain their value well. The sweet spot is 2014-2016 reg as you pay £0 road tax and they had an upgrade in 2016. The 2018 appears to have a few more upgrade features but when you account for the tax being paid each year alongside the inflated price tag it’s not worth it, in my opinion. For around £12,000 you can pick up a decent spec 2014-2016 model with under 50,000. Good buy if you’re a city driver or doing a reasonable commute and want a small hatchback.
I imported a 2017 CT200h with 14k km à year ago from Germany. Paid 26k for the top of the line spec model with sunroof, ML stereo, 10 inch infotainment screen, 17 inch wheel, led headlights, etc. The car is comfortable, reasonably quick in sport mode and so far it's been reliable. The lexus dealers treat their customers with respect, which is what I did not experience with Mercedes and BMW.
I've had one for a couple of years now and agree with most of your comments. The noisy acceleration with the CVT is not great but then the economy is out of this world. In EV mode, it is superb around town, quiet and relaxing. This is an Everyman car, very good quality, easy to maintain and service. Lexus knew what they were doing. I don't have a tweed jacket but I do listen to Radio 4 ;-) Thanks for all the good work HPA!
I watch a lot of your videos. I really like your presenting style, it's like you're telling a story. No waffle, cover the things that matter, and reviewing then used cars is so much better for people in the used car market. I'm glad you hate twitter.
I've had a CT for 2 years now and love it, around 60 mpg reliable and cheap to run. Its fast enough for me and having had hybrids before the CVT transmission is totally ignored. If the kids don't want them I'm happy as it keeps my insurance down .
My partner and i are in our 40ts, we drive lexus new lexus we were merc drivers but lexus has the beaten hands down on equality reliability customer service etc. We love our Lexi
I own one of these. a 2012 Premier so its pretty similar. I love it, bought it recently with very low miles at 66k. I really love the car. Your review was a spot on assessment of the CT200h. I also wanted to mention that it corners very well at higher speed than most cars which is fun!
Yep great reliable car. I sold mine for the Lexus is300h, better looking car but the CT interior dash layout and drive felt more comfortable. Had no trouble with it in 4 years.
Soooo......day 2 driving a 2012 LEXUS CT200H. My 4.0L Frontier Crew Cab truck just cranked out 385,000 miles and decided to act weird on idle. I bought the LEXUS to save on fuel. OMG, I averaged 42 MPG vs maybe 20 Max on the truck, however, I drove the truck like a rabid teenager all the way to now with crazy power. This LEXUS CT200H turned me into an adult driver, although I will be 60 in a year from now. It's not that this car is for older people, on the contrary, it's really fun in it's own way, and the comfort, gadgetry, overall feel of great quality..... the operational cost absolutely seals the reason to own it. So what if there is a battery bank replacement soon or way down the road, at this point, I'm up for it. It kind of reminds me of why motorcycle people might own a Raskull or Grom, the insurance is 1/10 the price of other motorcycles and goes slower, but in this case with the LEXUS CT200H, I not only fit in it at 6',2" compared to the small scooter, the car is unbelievably comfortable. My heart melts when I see the car and right when I sit down inside. In sport mode, the car has power, and here's the deal: If I can still go down the highway at 90 MPH or 145 KPH (which I have), I have achieved the same end result. I think my car is the same color paint and leather as this one in the video. It's immaculate and a joy. I wonder why I would want to buy anything else with all the moving part when this car has minimal. Yes!, Yes!, Yes! , Calgone I mean Lexus, take me away...
I probably made one of the most drastic switches here. Before I bought my ct200 I owned a GT86. Growing up with racing movies like fast and furious, watching drifting clips with for example an AE86 and being born in 1986 I just had to get one. Thinking I was cool, trying to score with the ladies I did some irresponsible driving like drifting around roundabouts and driving really fast on empty roads during the night. The ladies didn’t like that recklessness and I was anything but cool by acting like this. The car was to stressful to use for daily commute to work, always getting annoyed by how slow other people were driving. All that car wanted to do was drive fast and it was always encouraging you to do so or do some other reckless showing off like spinning the tires or drifting. I could get in super relax and always got out pumped up with adrenaline and a level of being annoyed or even angry. To stressful for daily commute and to impractical for going out in the weekends since I never drink and was always the designated driver. But then couldn’t really transport any people in my 2+2-seater. Honestly, I hated that car but it took me a long time to realize that, still thinking I was mister cool and popular. Having some close calls with near accidents and knowing I would at least get caught and fined someday I decided to sell the GT86 and buy a cool looking F-sport white Lexus ct200 with red leather interior. Not knowing anything about hybrids or even Lexus, never haven driving one, not knowing anything about the technology or fuel economy I instantly fell in love with it. I can have the most stressful shitty day of my life but as soon as I get behind the wheel of my ct200 I instantly get totally relaxed. Opposite of the GT86 this car encourages you to drive slow and economic. In the beginning you constantly find yourself looking at the information energy display and you can’t help but smiling every time you see how much fuel you are saving. You can drive this car like any other car and you will get decent mileage by letting the car use its technology. But it won’t take you long before you start adapting a new economic driving style yourself. The car will encourage you and you start making a game out of it to use as little fuel as possible. Calculating when the lights will be red and letting go of the gas pedal well before you hit the intersection will cut off the engine while still moving forward, when the lights turn green again you can accelerate on battery alone doubling your fuel savings. Its like having the advantage of limited fuel savings with a start/stop function that many cars now have plus extra savings when taking off again. I used to get so annoyed by heavy traffic, standing still, moving a few feet, stopping again, moving …but now I’m almost disappointed when I can just keep driving the speed limit. When I do end up in a traffic jam the car switches to battery power and I just cruise along totally relax not getting annoyed my petrol engine needs to start up every 15 seconds or is burning fuel when I’m not moving. Its not a car to be driving sporty but its not as bad as everybody claims, at the line I can pull away from almost everybody with both the electric and petrol engine working together. Other cars with hasty drivers only pass me when I hit the speed limit and they themselves go well over it. When driving normal (or maybe a bit adapted driving normal once your addicted to hypermiling) you will never hear the engine screaming like you do in all of those testing videos with people complaining about the engine noise. Ok with the exception of picking up speed when going on the highway, but once your cruising at highway speed its back to normal again. For comparison if your driving a entry level budget car that has little sound insolation in the engine bay you will have more engine noise for a longer period of time. So its not really the level of noise of the cvt transmission that might bother you its probably more the monotonous sound that it produces, like some people describe it to be more of wining noise. Doesn’t bother me however and again if you want a sportscar buy something else. I consider myself an hypermiler now and the best I can do in this car is 4.1L/100 km or (edit) 68,9 miles/gallon UK. But that’s without doing any highways witch I rarely do, when combined with highways the fuel consumption goes up a bit contradict to conventional cars, let’s say I’ll do about 4,5L/100 km or (edit) 62,77 miles/gallon UK. On average you should be able to get close to that kind of mileage once you have embraced the technology and adapt your driving style a bit. For over 2 years now the display is showing 4,3 L/100 km or (edit) 65,7 miles per gallon UK. Sometimes it still feels like a lot, but it’s very close to the number that’s found in the original brochure for that build year of 3,9 - 4,1 L/100 km or (edit) 72,43 - 68,9 miles/gallon UK. The new brochures however are edited to 4,8 - 5,3 L/100 km or (edit) 58,85 - 53,3 miles/gallon UK. Knowing I’m doing the same or even better than what the brochures says, I can only say that Lexus is being really honest and realistic about their numbers. When looking at other car brands and seeing they claim the same numbers or even lower without using hybrid technology, they are just not being realistic. And yes, a diesel engine, still very popular in Europe can get close to those numbers. But if you drive your diesel car that slow to achieve those numbers and never put your foot down your filters will clog up and you end up destroying your car.
i have my eyes on one 2012 that only have 15k km on it , but it worries me a little so little driving , what does it affect the hybrid part , it looks like it was new from the factory
@@gardini100 Hmm good question, not sure about that. I guess you are worried about the hybrid battery condition because you suspect the car has been standing still for a while, or at least not doing enough miles to keep the battery healthy. Only way to find out is to ask the owner for the maintenance records of the car. Normally all Lexus and Toyota vehicles undergo a “ hybrid battery health check” every time they go In for a big maintenance. The name says what it does, it checks how much capacity the battery still has and you get a complete oversight on how much degradation there is over the lifetime of the car. If the owner doesn’t have any of these records and you are serious about buying the car, then make a suggestion to perform the health check in a Lexus or Toyota dealership. Its not that expensive, the basically just hook up the car to the computer and run a diagnostic. Mine is still in excellent condition, hardly any capacity degradtion, i'm at 80.000 km, around 12.000km a year.
Your figures are wrong in that you have used the US gallon (3.8L) instead of UK gallon (4.5L). Your 4.3L/100km is 65.69 mpg (UK) which is great. The way you write your numbers with commas instead of points shows me you are from the Continent.
Coming to this video as we’ve just brought a 13 plate with 65k on the clock. What a car for looks and economy. Perfect for the Mrs driving into ulez, zero road tax and cheap insurance
Had one of these for a while and loved it. I don't agree in saying it has no power and a bad gearbox - to me that misses the point of it. It's not trying to be a sports car, anything but in reality. It is so well put together compared to anything else in its class and is fantastically smooth and comfortable. There is enough power for 99% of every day driving situations and the gearbox really suits the way you're supposed to drive the car. If you want a car which pins you in the back of your seat buy something else but if you want to waft around a small, well built and fantastically reliable car it's great for the money.
I agree. I liked it. Its a great city car. Perfect for around town. Luxurious and reliable. It struggles up hills though. I just wish they did a slightly faster model then it would be perfect
I have a 2012 F-Sport Special Edition. Aside from the headgasket failure (which is a common failure at around the 80-120k mark on these cars), it's been solid. I'm pretty rough on it and it still takes it like it's nothing, even at 129k miles. It's incredibly comfortable, but it handles pretty good since mine in particular is on BC Racing coilovers. I could not recommend a better car for someone to daily drive. Very comfortable, very practical, great gas mileage, cheap-ish insurance (Still not CHEAP cheap since it's a luxury car), and very reliable. Love my CT to death :)
many hates on this video. however, i think this video captures the mood of this lexas perfectly. boring, sleepy, nothing exciting. however, it is economical, extremely reliable, practical. and it will last forever.
Asad S If you don’t want thrills from a car because you can get them from your bike; this is the perfect car for you. It’s very luxurious (as long as you get the top spec model), and it very efficient
Try and get one that's been maintained by Lexus every 10,000 miles or so. If its had a lexus service recently, they will have done a health check on the battery too. Generally though they are very reliable and they rarely go wrong. I couldn't tell you of any one thing thats a common issue - which is very rare on a used car!
If you can forgo some luxury touches , you can get a Prius with much more practicality. They are awesome cars, realible as hell. That's why minicab drivers use them.
Hey man, find your voice and reviews really relaxing and enjoyable. In a wonderfully dry and miserable sense of humour. I just bought a 2015 CT20h Advance 72k miles and I have to disagree on the sport mode. It's a different car while on it. One factor that sold me is the amount of performance and luxury cars you've driven but couldn't let go of this at the time. Fantastic car, very comfortable and quiet (and mine only has the fabric seats). Sport mode gets you off a red light nicely and quite a bit faster than any learner is used to. Keep it up!
I bought mine today!!!!!!!!! Its a used 2013 F-Sport, it looks amazing. I took it up on a lift before closing the deal and we found a small leak from the timing belt tensioner, not a big deal. The mechanic said these engines are good but if mine were leaking from the timing chain cover it would be costly to repair. I check online what dealer charge for the repair and its 2k-4k at the dealer. So if you are looking to buy one get it on a lift and check those areas as well.
I've had mine since Mar 1st. 2017 with 16k on the clock. I get 38-46 mpg. I love it! I'm saving $300/month on gas alone. It has plenty of power and in sport mode it drives like a sports car.
I have a 2012 model, now at 140000 km (87000 miles). No technical problems so far, just regular maintenance. But I get just over 17 km from a liter, which would be 49 miles from a gallon. First as a company car, attractive because of low tax for private use, later bought it when I left that company.
ghk364 Hi, I usually don’t really like sensible cars like this, but I really grew attached to this one. They’re great cars pleasant to drive. Cheap to run. Lots of extras. Smooth drive
I purchased my CT200h yesterday. I was very excited at first but my mistake was i didn't do any research on it, i just loved the appearance. Anyway, drove it approximately 300 miles today and now im say on my couch at 5:43am thinking whether it I enjoyed it and u know what... i kinda did! Pretty impressive, slow as F but..... still pretty cool. 👍🏽 ✅
Planning to buy one next year. Had a Gen 2 Prius and liked it, but it felt and sounded cheap and the seats were horrible for anything over 2 hours. We replaced it with a Camry Hybrid and we love the Camry, but no memory seats and "only" 32 MPG. Camry has 233,000 miles with ZERO issues - not even brakes. This should be the perfect replacement. Thanks for the insight.
Should you buy a Lexus CT200.. yes you should! We bought one after watching this video and also after been shafted by our diesel Volvo and its 3k repair bill. Have had our 2013 model for a while now without incident, not even a rattle in it. Okay, its not the most exciting car and its overly stiff in the suspension dept but its efficient, reliable, £0 road tax and I think it looks quite nice. Also it's a bit different, who hasn't got an Audi or a BMW nowadays so I think it's has a little exclusivity.
I bought 2013 model , ubering the shit out of the car in different weather conditions as I live in Canada Ontario, 50000 km in less than a year , 95 % of customers compliment the car ,. Only changed oil , front light pulp, one fuse , sport mode best performance after 80 km speed , full tank in summer I got 740 km (normal car between 400 to 470 km with same capacity of tank 33 liters) keep in mind hybrid system bring car millage to about 30% less than normal car ( if you have 100000 km in total driven then that actually 30% less which means you have only 70000 km to 80000 km on engine) , breaks change once every 100000 km any go even more , hybrid never a race car but I did somke few cars in sport mode with same engine capacity, yes it's stiff in the road , media system can be upgraded with compatible one from AliExpress for 300usd , best car ever
hosam samar please can you tell me how is the rear space for passengers?? I’m doing also uber in London and I want to buy a Ct200h but I’m not sure if is not to small for doing Uber. Thank you mate
I was in the market for a new car 12 months ago and watched this video. On the back of it I bought a CT200H and in that time it has been an excellent car, no problems at all with it and does well on the motorway when I drive between London and Edinburgh every other month.
If you put it in sport mode and drive hard it has tons of performance. Fold the rear seats down or one seat down and you have more then enough storage.
@@HighPeakAutos I moved to a Merc A220d DCT AMG, which is in a much higher class above. Build quality WAY better, plus it does between 65 and 70mpg average.
Why are people so hung up about how a hybrid engine sounds? Seems to me that having the engine already be at peak horsepower RPMs is ideal for any car instead of resetting constantly through every gear. And the CVT bashing really shouldn't really be applied to Toyota hybrids since they use a planetary gearset instead of belts. Any slipping that happens is due to the MG-1 allowing it.
My son said it was time to sell my Toyota Tundra Crewcab which, as you can imagine guzzled gasoline in its sleep, and purchase a hybrid instead. I had never even seen the CT200h until I saw one at a local car lot. When I learned that it got about 42 MPG I was sold. The lines of the car are elegant and the interior is solid and feels and says "luxury". Yes, it does not have the power of my Tundra, but this car is not about power; it's about a comfortable, well built car, with a load of amenities that will get you where you need to, on little gas money, in a stylish hatchback. I'm very pleased with my purchase. I do wish the back seats had a bit more leg room. Thank you for your commentary! Enjoyed.
Sean Corker I just purchased used she is great just wondering do I need to get a transmission flush after 100k just asking because my last car transmission went out and no one ever mentioned a flushed
Just put in sport mode... it's great... I think so..... had one for 1 year ongoing.... ... with the updated...front end. same black... 18 inch alloys fitted ... most people think it is more than it is ... 🤩.... I love it...
Perhaps one of the reasons people _enjoy_ it is that great fuel economy means that you don't think about costs at all. It's like you don't think about the cost of fuelling your body to go for a walk. The fuel cost doesn't niggle in the back of your mind. If you get one with low kilometers, it's even better. It feels like you can drive long distances per year without noticing the cost. In fact you feel like you get more benefit the more you drive it.
This was a good bargaining car for me. My missus loves the fact that it doesn't pollute and it's an amazing daily/family car. And, I get to drive my E63 on the side without causing too much conflict at home :)
I love CT200H 🥰 I got one it’s already 1400k mileage and still good , saves a lot of money in terms of gas. Not good with speed lol 😆 it is just good for work and home
Just got mine a 2013 and it’s super nice to drive and super comfortable also can go way longer than almost all cars without having to stop at a gas station and it’s luxury for sure
You're a very honest and cool guy. Thanks a bunch. I've been wanting to know more about this car since I seen it about 1 1/2 years ago. I pulled the trigger on a Civic but it was really noisy inside until I spent countless hours making it quieter. Lexus have a certain luxury feeling that's great. I had a girlfriend that had a big white one and she was in her 30's but then again she was an Asian nerd!
It’s purposed as an economic vehicle, not a racing car. The CVT auto is the most fuel-economical on the market so it’s a no-brainer. My wife has one and we both love it. My only qualm is that it’s a bit low to the ground. I’m 5’5” and I’ve bumped my head getting in on several occasions! 😳
Currently in the market for a used car in the US and I’ve been looking at these. They’re hard to find, but they seem to be cheaper than a comparable Prius despite being mechanically the same and nicer looking inside and out.
For less money and about the same mpg you can get a Honda Fit/Jazz that handles way better, same HP, more interior room, cheaper parts and decent aftermarket support so u can it more unique.
I had one for 3 years (the longest I owned any car) and never had any issues with it. I liked it till the day I sold it, the only downsides I think were the dated screen and space in the rear seats. I became a father and a baby seat is a tight squeeze, I needed to adjust the front seat on order to make it fit - which reduced comfort. I now drive a nx300h and that has plenty of space. Much easier with a little one in multiple aspects - hope to enjoy it as long or longer than my CT!
I have a 2012 luxury line and its an amazing car. Couldn’t be happier with it. And the mark levinson in this is better than most systems that come with 200k cars
As I finished watching the video, what did I see underneath but an advert for a Stannah Stairlifts! I must be watching too many of your Lexus reviews lately 😂 Great review btw.
No it has the best "CVT" gearbox ever invented. Its also the most reliable automatic gearbox ever invented. Its also the least maintenance intensive drivertrain ever. Even manual gearbox drivetrains need to change out clutches, synchro rings, even some of the gears themselves rarely survive past 300k miles. The toyota HSD have been known to last over 600k miles with minimal maintenance.
It is actually wrong to say that it is just slow. That drivetrain with the electrical motor makes it very quick, at least from zero to about 50 km/h. So it is perfect in city traffic. And it is very relaxing to drive as there is no point to drive it sporty, it does not work for that. So you just "give up" and keep on cruising instead. Best feeling. :)
Leif Eriksson I agree it’s the perfect city car, low emissions, reliable and luxurious. Where I live there are lots of hills, and the lack of power got annoying but I was impressed with the rest of the car 👍
There's a reason it has some of the best second hand residuals on the market. Reliable, cheap to run, amazing quality and kit. Toyota and Lexus are the only dealers i've ever encountered that aren't total cunts when it comes to servicing either.
You like the car because it is well built/ not fancy. Does what it needs to do and is of high quality. Lexus AKA Toyota have a production process called TQM / CQI. If you look them up you will see why they ahead of almost any manufacturer. I would argue they are ahead of every manufacturer. If they bring out an all elctric car- Tesla best watch out. These guys have shown the way for a long time amd we will see if new players bnechmark Toyota as the standard or become an also-ran car manufacturer.
Thanks mate, you've convinced me, I want one. A bit ugly outside but beautiful on the inside which is the bit you see driving. I'm 54 but no grey and look youngish
Considering switching from my golf mk5 estate (105ps) for a new CT, but the way they all keep talk about how sluggish it is i am a bit confused, never felt my golf to be slow and the CT is 136ps! so what's the deal here?! i like how this car looks and most of all, i hear good news about Lexus cars AND, i am looking for a good car and not a financial pit..
Good review, 9 month long experience with this car is a lot more useful than any quick review on a brand new car. But there are few things where you are wrong. Toyota in their hybrids is not using a gearbox. It's transmission not a gearbox and it's called e-CVT. It has nothing to do with CVT you might know from other cars. e-CVT is maintenance free and cannot fail unlike any other gearbox out there. Engine characteristics under load might sound annoying but this engine works in Atkinson-cycle, it is designed to provide efficiency at the expense of power density. Top speed is at around 110 mph (180 kmh) and 0-60 is just under 10 seconds. I think that's more than enough for a city, suburb car.
Orwell APB Hi, thanks for the comment. I’m impressed with the car, hence why I kept it so long but it’s main flaw is the lack of power. It’s adequate I suppose for city driving, but it never excites. Also, in England nobody uses the word ‘transmission’, it’s an American word. Rightly or wrongly we mainly refer to it as the gearbox.
Bullshit, that e-CVT will fail eventually especially without fluid changes. Most makers now have these maintenance free lifetime transmissions and they wont last without fluid changes. Everything that has fluid in the car needs to have that fluid changed in order for the car to last.
Ive had this car for 8 months now with a 3 year service plane from Lexus and its very reasonable the cars not about speed its saving me money yes the gearbox is a bit a miss when you accelerate and a bit noisy but I can put up with that. if your a bit of a boy racer then the cars not for you its a pleasure to drive on long journeys very comfortable .it does feel weird when you accelerate as its one motion not like the old autos as they step down when you stab the throttle .ive loved driving it makes me drive sensible and effortless to drive very relaxing
@@fitapilot140 physics is no myth. Any transimission fluid needs to lubricate and cool down the gears and bearings. In time it gets gunked up and loses its properties. That is why you change it. Simple.
Having owned one for over a year I still love it,My personal opinion is if your budget can afford it go with 2018 onwards,I think they revised these over a 10 year period,I have a 2020 F sport and apart from the later models paying tax (from about 2017 onwards) I still really like this car,As far as slow I would say as long as you have the frame of mind that it’s not a performance car you will be ok,Stylish and well built, and economical on the fuel also.
The screen looks like a 90's Nintendo gameboy lmao. This was actually very helpful. I have been considering buying a used 2017 CT200 and think I'm going for it, I really don't need a lot of power, just longevity so probably perfect. Thank you!!!
Toyota Prius batters last a long time. Often all that is needed after 200k+ miles is just a few cells swapped out and the car will last to 300k. And there is safe rebuilt options if it's needed sooner, if cell swapping turns out not to be the best option or if you just want peace of mind.
This uses the same HV battery pack technology used in the Prius. Same engine, same Hybrid Synergy Drive. Prius cars have managed 400,000 miles on the same HSD battery pack and propulsion system. Boring? Perhaps. Reliable and over engineered? Definitely. I’m driving a 2008 Prius bought June 2013 at 55,000 miles. It now has 110,000 on the clock and hasn’t broken down yet. Last serviced in December 2018, the HV Battery is still in perfect working order according to the Toyota techs. This is the same ultra reliable technology that has gone into the Lexus Hybrids. Buy one without fear, but as with any other vehicle, ensure it has a full service and has NOT been abused!
I got one in Metalic Brown, I love it, i'mm 22 yrs. and I bought it when I was 21 yrs. Audi A3 and VW Golf wasnt an option because I dont like em because of reliability concerns, I had a Toyota Starlet in advance and I wanted a Lexus because its something else and its special.
I used to daily drive my 2011 ct200 to high school everyday (I’m in college now) and everyone at school thought it was cool (mainly because it is black with the darkest tint in history so nobody knew who drove it until I got out/in
Just bought an IS300H (2015) model. Here in the Netherlands lexus is very rare. But we also pay around 1,60 euro for a litre of gasoline. It gets more attractive that way :) It also feels quite a bit more fleshed out with the 2,5 4 cylinder +battery. Wouldn't call it sporty but at least it doesn't get on my nerves for being to slow.
Cool, ik heb ook een is300h. Hij is zeker sneller. Was bang dat de ct200h te stug was afgeveerd op de lange termijn. Waar in nederland rijd je rond? Lexus is idd vrij zeldzaam in Nederland
@@JustinElliot1990 in Nederland is Lexus zeker onder gewaardeerd! Iedereen houd hier toch meer van Europese auto's voornamelijk de Duitsers! Maar het is allemaal kapot duur!
I had a 2012 CT200h Premium, with Mark Levinson sound system. The best thing about the car was the sound system, which is absolutely awesome. Yes the ride is very harsh. The seats are too hard. It handles poorly and is horrible in cross winds on the motorway. In EV mode it will only do 28mph. At 29mph the engine cuts in, so you cannot even drive at the urban speed limit in EV mode, which is pointless. I would never get another....
I agree, the stereo is superb. I think its the perfect city car, as batteries improve the EV range will get better. I quite like owning it, but I wouldn't have another either. Id rather have the IS300h or the RC300h
43/40 mpg; I think it looks nice, and it looks miles better than a Prius or any other hybrid really. I’ve driven enough sports cars, if I want that, I know what I’d get (or keep my rx8 Shinka) from a trans am Ws6 to a brz. I’ve also had a Prius and a civic hybrid. The fun comes in getting a tank at 90+ mpg. A cvt isn’t bad, people just don’t get it; they should never have shift points programmed. I prefer a standard, but appreciate what a real hybrid is. I think you are a bit too negative, to the point of bias/chip on your shoulder. To explain my point of view, think about almost every brz/frs/86 review you’ve ever seen, then watch Chris Harris review when it first came out; he doesn’t complain about ‘prius’ tires, he doesn’t complain about it being ‘underpowered’, he doesn’t complain about the torque dip. He just drives the piss out of it with a smile, and gives it a proper review. This review is so melancholy. I do see the positive being said; but I think it’s a dismissive overall perspective.
Kuro Murasaki I appreciate your comments but I don’t really understand. I wasn’t hard on this car at all. I like it. Otherwise I wouldn’t have kept it for 9 months. Yes it’s a little slow and the loud CVT box is a bit annoying, but the rest of the car is very good and I would recommend one. The quality is superb. It was perfectly reliable. I wasn’t dismissing the car or being overly negative about it, just trying to sum up my feelings about it 👍
I find the cvt is great. Simply change your thoughts about how an engine sounds when accelerating. And they can be fun to cruise around at a decent pace imo. Still not a sports car, but the car doesn’t have to make the fun, _you_ make the fun
I bought a ct200 se-l premier 2012 and i love it to the bits and about power my one got plenty, i know is just 100bhp but it feels more than that!!!! Depends on how the car is been used before and how the clutch is My one is 25k mileage and it flies!!
For a period of time I owned a VW Lupo 3L TDI. 61 hp and a gearbox that took ages to shift. A few years prior to this I used to ride with my friend in his 1979 VW Golf Diesel. 0-60 mph in a couple of minutes... Well, I might get myself one of these CT's next week.
If you want a sportscar...do not buy a CT200. If you want a big car... Dont buy a CT200. But... If you want to buy a good car... A confortable car.. A luxury car... Buy the CT200. You will have an exellent car.
I agree!
Do you have one? I'd like to know more about reliability :)
@@lolsmol yes.. I have one
I got one for my miss and its amazing..we even travel to EU 5K miles not a problem

I loved mine. Theyre great cars
I don’t think the ride is smooth, the tire pressure setting is too high imo. Even with the 16 inch wheels it rides kinda harsh.
I get it it’s for economy, maybe the next set of tires will change it.
Random question but how is the driver seat posture? Does it feel like you’re sinking in the chair or is more upright?
@@JonathanNelsonOfficial
It's all adjustable.
@@Cloud007. you have one? I had a Prius and the chair itself is manufactured in a strange, tucked in position that feels very unnatural. Curious to know if the CT is the same.

Alan Murphy I really liked it. I had it for nearly a year. I would definitely recommend it
I agree, having just bought one. Am late 30s by the way. A few grey hairs are starting to show though so getting prepared early.

An older lexus maybe not these. Even smarter are the toyota jdm versions of lexus, the aristo, crowns ect. Rare and better equipped than any lexus
Older people are usually quite smarter, experienced than youngsters.
A couple of minor issues though:
- I find the seat horrible.
I've seen a lot of reviews, but never seen a review like this (in a positive way)
Very honest, normal behaviour. I have the same car and you described exactly what I feel. Really, thumbs up mate.
Thanks for watching!
We bought one here in Oz, 8 years ago and it now has140,000km on the clock. It has never missed a beat, never broken anything.

If old folks drive it then it's a sign of quality and reliability.
A sensible choice I'd say.
Mr Pat You’re right, but that’s the trouble... it’s too sensible
Wise people indeed!

If you want something with power, there's plenty else out there. But as an all rounder, absolutely fantastic and delighted - cheers for reviewing HPA!
Congrats! Enjoy it. You'll definitely enjoy the savings you'll make

I think this is going to feel like a Ferrari if I switch to it from my 1.0 manual Yaris with it's allmighty 63 horsepower. Gotta love the Toyota reliability!
Absolutely! Reliability with Lexus refinement
I found myself ignoring the lack of power from the solid MPGs and combination of nimble handling.
bought a used CT, 3 years ago, still own it, still drive it daily and still think it was my best ever choice in car buying.
They do make a lot of sense
I'm so excited mines arriving in 1 weeks time i look forward to updating you guys 😍
BECAUSE IT'S DEPENDABLE AND CHEAP TO KEEP
below me YES IT IS
Actually, in sport mode, the steering stiffens and acceleration improves immensely.
It feels like there's more torque but the noise is horrendous
Acceleration with your foot on the floor is identical.. it just changes the mapping of the accelerator pedal up until that point.
Why would you compare Lexus to a Jag? One of the more reliable brand vs one of the most unreliable. LoL
They tend to be bought by the same age of customer, and they're generally big comfortable high spec cars,
Had a jag for yrs when it my warrenty expired the car went crazy and shut down immediately
Lexus aren't that unreliable, surely...
You are talking from a twisted view
Had a jag for 4 years. Never let me down once. Water pump went but that was a £40 repair (did it myself)
I've switched to it from a 2004 Smart so it feels incredibly fast to me. The "outdated" style of the dash is incredibly attractive to me.
I love the dash! I wish more cars where like this !
King Robert baratheon! I didn't your royal grace could even fit into a tiny smart car!
I watch a lot of your videos. I really like your presenting style, it's like you're telling a story. No waffle, cover the things that matter, and reviewing then used cars is so much better for people in the used car market. I'm glad you hate twitter.
Super chill
I've had a CT for 2 years now and love it, around 60 mpg reliable and cheap to run. Its fast enough for me and having had hybrids before the CVT transmission is totally ignored. If the kids don't want them I'm happy as it keeps my insurance down .

Is Lexi singular?
So does that mean Lexus is collective?
Ah-ha
Pleased to hear it :)
I can see your reasoning. I would've done the same.
i have my eyes on one 2012 that only have 15k km on it , but it worries me a little so little driving , what does it affect the hybrid part , it looks like it was new from the factory
@@KrisCT200 thanks for the info , i must say i like this car , but i find Prius okay to so lets see what comes my way real soon :)
High Peak Autos completely agree with you!
Best review of this model out there. Thank you!
Thanks
I love motorcycling and want a car that is luxurious and efficient. This seems perfect for me as the thrills I need are provided by my bike.
Asad S If you don’t want thrills from a car because you can get them from your bike; this is the perfect car for you. It’s very luxurious (as long as you get the top spec model), and it very efficient
@@HighPeakAutos may I ask about reliability or maintenance costs? Anything to look out for? Thanks for the response!
That's exactly the same reason why I chose the ct200h. Ride safe.
Keep it up!
This looks exactly like mine! Not a perfect car but love mine and would choose it again.
You are probably attached to it because of the unmached mpg for luxury
Yeah I think so. Cheap to run, reliable and very luxurious
I've had mine since Mar 1st. 2017 with 16k on the clock. I get 38-46 mpg. I love it! I'm saving $300/month on gas alone. It has plenty of power and in sport mode it drives like a sports car.
Important to note anyone reading this is that your one is 38-46 mpg (USA). This would be 45-55 mpg (UK).

They're very reliable aren't they! Great cars if you're doing a lot of miles and very cheap to run
hosam samar hi, what media unit is that please ?
Very detailed ...Is it worth to buy a car 100000 km or more....
hosam samar please can you tell me how is the rear space for passengers?? I’m doing also uber in London and I want to buy a Ct200h but I’m not sure if is not to small for doing Uber. Thank you mate
Robert Merghisescu Not enough space in the back except for children...Get the ES300h
I was in the market for a new car 12 months ago and watched this video. On the back of it I bought a CT200H and in that time it has been an excellent car, no problems at all with it and does well on the motorway when I drive between London and Edinburgh every other month.
They’re great cars aren’t they
If you put it in sport mode and drive hard it has tons of performance. Fold the rear seats down or one seat down and you have more then enough storage.
I had it for nearly a year, I was impressed generally
I had a 2012 Premium, and i wouldnt say it had tons of performance. Yes it eventually moved, but its noisy and the CVT is horrible.
DJ_PaulTUK It eventually gets up to speed, but you kind of feel bad for the thing. It’s not built for speed, but the rest of the car is very good
@@HighPeakAutos I moved to a Merc A220d DCT AMG, which is in a much higher class above.
Enjoyed.
Great review - exactly how I feel about my CT - and yes - I try and keep it in ev mode as long as possible.
Sean Corker I just purchased used she is great just wondering do I need to get a transmission flush after 100k just asking because my last car transmission went out and no one ever mentioned a flushed
Top auto, LEXUS - reliable , only knowledgeable drivers know what a good car is :) My future car soon I hope :)
Just put in sport mode... it's great... I think so..... had one for 1 year ongoing.... ... with the updated...front end. same black... 18 inch alloys fitted ... most people think it is more than it is ... 🤩.... I love it...
They are very good cars. I enjoyed mine
Another review relevant to the average buyer. Brilliant stuff mate
Thanks :)
This was a good bargaining car for me. My missus loves the fact that it doesn't pollute and it's an amazing daily/family car. And, I get to drive my E63 on the side without causing too much conflict at home :)
That sounds like a fair deal!! The Lexus is a great little family car for the city. I think you got the better end of the deal though haha
I love CT200H 🥰 I got one it’s already 1400k mileage and still good , saves a lot of money in terms of gas. Not good with speed lol 😆 it is just good for work and home
They're very cheap to run and nice to drive though
Just got mine a 2013 and it’s super nice to drive and super comfortable also can go way longer than almost all cars without having to stop at a gas station and it’s luxury for sure
You're a very honest and cool guy. Thanks a bunch. I've been wanting to know more about this car since I seen it about 1 1/2 years ago. I pulled the trigger on a Civic but it was really noisy inside until I spent countless hours making it quieter. Lexus have a certain luxury feeling that's great. I had a girlfriend that had a big white one and she was in her 30's but then again she was an Asian nerd!
Thank you! The Lexus CT is a great car. I know that Honda's are very reliable, but they're a little tinny inside and not as refined as a Lexus.
i bought this car after i saw this video lol ! thanks!! i am 28 year old grandma with great fuel savings!
Haha very good! They make a lot of sense
My exact experience. 😂 Going from a 95 pickup to this will be Luxury.
Currently in the market for a used car in the US and I’ve been looking at these. They’re hard to find, but they seem to be cheaper than a comparable Prius despite being mechanically the same and nicer looking inside and out.
Strongly considering a new one....and I'm 22!
Go for it
@@HighPeakAutos I'm also considering an M Sport 1 series!
@@matthewbutler4385 the Lexus IS much nicer to drive and much more reliable.
@@HighPeakAutos Bought one! And love it! Much prefer to the 1 series.
Good review again! Your channel is going places! And when it does please don't change the current format as its almost perfect
Thank you! More of the same :)
I bought my one ct200 2017 about a month ago and I love it. It feels like a sword in samurai hands. Lexus - thank you. Hope you will reborn the model
Very nice! I hope it will. It needs a refresh now
As I finished watching the video, what did I see underneath but an advert for a Stannah Stairlifts! I must be watching too many of your Lexus reviews lately 😂
Great review btw.
It could be worse it could be Michael Parkinson selling life insurance with a free pen when you contact them.
You know you love the Lexus. I first started following you after your LS400 review, or if may have been the Jaguar XF tbf.
LOVE MY CT200H!
Great analysis mate , very balanced comments, appreciate it.
Much appreciated
It is actually wrong to say that it is just slow. That drivetrain with the electrical motor makes it very quick, at least from zero to about 50 km/h. So it is perfect in city traffic. And it is very relaxing to drive as there is no point to drive it sporty, it does not work for that. So you just "give up" and keep on cruising instead. Best feeling. :)
Leif Eriksson I agree it’s the perfect city car, low emissions, reliable and luxurious. Where I live there are lots of hills, and the lack of power got annoying but I was impressed with the rest of the car 👍
@@HighPeakAutos I drive in LA find it zippy, esp over 40mph. Not allot of hills here so don't have that experience
Its a perfect car for LA. Theres so much traffic there you might as well be sitting there with low emissions in silent luxury :)

Good rant. I’m considering getting one
There's a reason it has some of the best second hand residuals on the market. Reliable, cheap to run, amazing quality and kit. Toyota and Lexus are the only dealers i've ever encountered that aren't total cunts when it comes to servicing either.
I'd agree with all of that
You like the car because it is well built/ not fancy.
I think he's worrying too much about image.

I think a little bit too much, perhaps.

@@stephennewton2777 True!
@@Tr33People must be american. Europas usually dont change tranny fluid. I only know that froh the US. And its a Gold myth that you need to Change it.
Loved the commentary. Well done.
Zach Thanks 😉
I am 26 and own this car. Love the mpg saves me a lot of money on gas. Drive a wrx during the weekends. The speed is not fast but normal.
I was 28 and owned one! I did like it but not for speed :)
As a 30 year old and being a tight fisted Yorkshire man, I'd be perfectly happy with this. £0 tax and good fuel economy!
The screen looks like a 90's Nintendo gameboy lmao. This was actually very helpful. I have been considering buying a used 2017 CT200 and think I'm going for it, I really don't need a lot of power, just longevity so probably perfect. Thank you!!!
It’s a good looking car inside and out. My concern is the longevity of the batteries and lack of HP.
abcdLeeXY Yeah it’s not bad looking. The batteries have a long lifespan. They’re the same as the Prius
Batteries might be in need of replacement after 10 years or so, so be wary if buying one approaching that. Not too bad to replace if you’re handy
I find the HP is enough. Depends on your driving style I guess
I used to daily drive my 2011 ct200 to high school everyday (I’m in college now) and everyone at school thought it was cool (mainly because it is black with the darkest tint in history so nobody knew who drove it until I got out/in
I like them. I'd have another
Just bought an IS300H (2015) model. Here in the Netherlands lexus is very rare. But we also pay around 1,60 euro for a litre of gasoline. It gets more attractive that way :)
It also feels quite a bit more fleshed out with the 2,5 4 cylinder +battery.
They really are surprisingly (shockingly almost for what you get, Japanese build, and hybrid!) cheap used...
You can learn a load of stuff listening to radio 4 while cruising at 20mph in the Lexus.
I seriously considering to buy one of these.
Depends on how the car is been used before and how the clutch is
My one is 25k mileage and it flies!!
Very nice!
"Slow" is a relative term.
I agree. It would seem fast if you were used to walking or travelling on horse back
My Prius doesn't win any races but I can beat a lot of normal drivers just based on knowing the limits of it.
@@HighPeakAutos I'm going from a micra with cvt transmission to this car so I will prob feel like I'm driving at rocket. 😂
I bought my 2013 Lexus ct200h in 2015. 56k miles on it so far. Decent car. Same color and interior.
Very good. That will last a long time with such low mileage
You remind of a slightly hairier Karl Pilkington! ‘Not got Twitter cos I hate it’ 😂
