The first 6 or 7 seasons of American Dad is such an absolutely perfect time capsule of post-9/11 American life. But Trey and Matt are still comedy geniuses especially when it comes to social and political commentary. I think they might be getting a bit burnt out on South Park, hence the whole #cancelsouthpark "joke". And who wouldn't after 20+ seasons of running the same show. They are still very much hands on creators of every episode, they still write every script, create storyboards, direct animation, and do 90% of the voices (in under a week per episode). Which is why it's still very funny, it just evolved cause Trey and Matt are just like any other human being, they grow up, change their opinions and their view on life, try new things and so on.

Pushing the boundaries and developing content in which wasn't ever done such as every episode flashbacks, cartoon to real people cutscenes, killing 4th and 5th walls, aiming at the whole history of television, Family Guy pushed every single border you can think of and made it hilarious. Followed Seth through Family Guy, some of his other projects but The Orville is the one I am resonating with a lot these days because it harkens to the type of Sci-Fi show I grew up with, and pays respect to it as much as occasionally brings comedy to a situation that wasn't there before. Please watch The Orville... it's more than just a sci-fi comedy... it's become something more!

The best part about The Orville is that it has the biting humor of Star Trek Voyager combined with the character-based drama of Family Guy.

So I guess people at GQ didn't know that "cool whip" animation they used is not the actual scene but a remake by a youtuber.

The Orville is my favorite show you've done, Mr. McFarland. It's got that perfect mix of silly and social commentary that makes you think of things in a new light without being depressing.
That said my favorite episode was probably the most depressing episode. Lt. Malloy simulated a girlfriend, and I could totally see myself doing something like that. I'm so glad it's back on Hulu.
