His casting as Walter White is the greatest casting choice in television history. No one else could’ve played Walter White like him. He embodied that role like no one else could’ve.
I always thought Kevin Spacey would've made a great Walter White as well
@@kid100music3 His character in American Beauty has a lot of stuff on the core which make him similar to WW. And Spacey do have a big range too.
@@concettasorvillo3719 think about it. he's like the only dude of similar age with Cranstons skillset
@@concettasorvillo3719 Dont know about that tbh. Spacey is a terrific actor, and his subtle, complex character in LA Confidential was the best performance for me. But Spacey has played menacing roles and we kind of already see him as such, so the crossover to the dark side would not have been as compelling or as astonishing
@@paulinegallagher7821 ah yes! I agree. I was more focused on his role in American Beauty, which was similar to early WW. But yes, the surprise wouldn't be the same. Great call
It's insane how large of a range Bryan has. Extremely funny and slapstick to ultra serious and dramatic.
@bing chilling I think it’s fair to say Bryan is one of the best
@@user-hz8xb1yx8o for television sure, he really cant carry a film in the same way.
@@yallTweakin bruh
@bing chilling I think that Mr. Cranston is just a few notches higher than them. No offense to those two talented comedians.
@@crazycontraptions1249 yea cuz the infiltrator & trumbo were both just outstanding huh? Lmao he aint a movie leading man thats just facts. Hes a great actor but seems to me hes more comfortable on the tv side of the industry
The affection with which he talks about Malcolm in the Middle is genuinely lovely. You can tell everybody in that cast loved each other because it really shows onscreen.
There's an interview with Frankie Muniz (Malcolm) on Steve-O's podcast. Frankie says that even today, Bryan Cranston will message him every two weeks just to check up and ask how he's doing. He says Bryan is literally the nicest guy in Hollywood.
Just look up "Frankie Muniz opinion of Bryan Cranston" to find the full clip on RUclips.
He was doing his own stunts in Malcolm in the Middle
They just seem like a real family, it's amazing
The fact that Walter White and Hal Wilkerson are both played by the same guy is something I can't fully wrap my head around. What an amazing actor.
Watch Your Honor too😍😍😍
Ikr
Well… yes, no… maybe? Can you repeat the question?
Sometimes I forget that Bryan Cranston started off as his acting career in comedy. He was so menacing as Walter White that it feels weird see him also as Hal.
Or a sweet loser in Drive, I think one of the best movie death scenes.
I can see him with Evan Peters.
Frr
👍👍👍👍👍👍
That's what makes a good actor. He can do anything
His portrayal of Hal is so underrated because of how good he played Walter
Geez i cant 😮 😅 😢 still imagine that this man was walt abd hal
Hal always still comes to mind whenever I think of Bryan even though breaking bad was great, it's just how I know him.
@@jessemccann9711 so real! in my head, walter white is just Hal in another universe as a chemist and drug lord lol
I could just imagine Vince showing clips of Malcom in the Middle and saying “yeah this goofy dad with his weird shenanigans he’s perfect for a drug lord”
Honestly it took me awhile to get over the fact that Walter white was Hal and had a hard time taking him seriously 😂
I could listen him for hours, he's so passionate about the acting and the importance of being curious and creative it's really motivating
I never get tired of listening to everyone who was involved with Breaking Bad talk about how the sausage was made on that show. Whether it's the actors talking about their characters or Vince Gilligan talking about the creative process throughout the show's development, it's always a fantastic listen.
download the audiobook of his memoirs “a life in parts”
That’s so awesome how he mentions that he played Hal to prove the character wasn’t disinterested in his family, but distracted by other things easily. My mom actually said she never liked the show until she realized that Hal was actually a good and caring father who just got distracted by other things easily. I had no idea that was so intentional on Bryan’s part. Amazing acting!
Your mom sounds super sweet.
I love how Bryan approached his character in relation to his counterpart. It really goes to show that he thought of the overall story and how to enhance everyone else. Just a brilliant actor.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
He does a lot of foiling! Which is so Shakespearean tbh it’s amazing
when he explained how the passive Walter white should be and how the clothes and the style of mustach, he is a genius actor
So humble and smart
Good
nice

Nice
i like it
Cranston is a master at giving his characters depth. Truly an actor at the very core.
It’s something inspiring to see someone do what they love and give their all.
Bryan Cranston is one of the most wholesome, not just actors but human beings to ever live.🙏
One of the best actors of our generation
And the funniest!
Literally everyone says that about every actor.
@@dystopianfuture1165 I don’t know of another actor who comes anywhere close.
@@dystopianfuture1165 I don’t know of another actor who comes anywhere close.
Are we gonna talk about how handsome he is? Especially when he was younger in Seinfeld but he’s aged extremely well too.
“It’s not a loss. I got to create a moment, even though that moment was never filmed.” The passion he has is inspiring.
I rewatch Malcolm in the Middle start to finish every couple years and every time I am blown away by how good that show is and how amazing Bryan Cranston portrays that role. Pure acting and comedy genius. Also Malcom in the Middle may be my favorite series finale episode of all time
Yh
The finale episode I love it
Truly an incredible series and very near and dear to my heart
Bryan talking about the details he thought of when becoming Walter White, such as the impotent mustach, just shows how professional and amazing of an actor he is.
It’s crazy how Bryan contributed so much to Drive. That handshake scene is one of the most memorable ever.
My understanding is that pretty much every actor had to flesh out their own character. Nicolas Winding Refn was pretty open about actors pitching ideas on how the movie could be improved.
Cranston killed it as Hal - The goofy husband who loved Lois unconditionally. The episodes hold up amazingly well... The one with the speed walking to the one with the POV as a fly. All of it.
One of my fav scenes with Hal was when he broke down in the van when he found out Lois was expecting Jamie but not knowing Malcom was sleeping in the car hearing his cries 😂😂
@@Infamous6091 Lol i loved that, it was so real. So calm and serene to Lois and then completely breaks down hysterically
@@paulinegallagher7821 honestly man I could watch that so many times. Literally the change in mood is what kills me
Malcolm in the middle is one of the best sitcoms ever made. What a character and what a show. It was genuinely funny with incredible writing and incredible characters. One of the only shows where nearly every single side character is just as funny and quirky as the main cast. Everyone is amazing in it.
Been rewatching it with my brother lately and we've been laughing our asses off!
I felt like he was playing a cartoon character, in a good way.
i love malcolm in the middle . one of the best shows ever and also very underrated
Only reason I watched Malcolm in the middle was because of Hal 😂 I love his character so much
For the most part, Malcolm In The Middle has aged pretty well. Still love Hal's character. It was strange to see "Hal" in Breaking Bad... took about half an episode to become Walter White in my head.
Love how real he is with his answers.
The tell of how talented an actor is you look at their comedic talent. Comedic acting is the hardest thing to pull off well and he consistently has throughout his career.
He is a late bloomer, but he is carved of her legacy
His a great story teller and he has a smart humor. ❤
One of the rare tv show actor that deserves every awards he've won over the years against great competition as well. A true TV GOAT
Wow the attention to detail in BB just shows when he talks about blending in his clothes with the background. I never even noticed while watching and now I realize how genius that is.
Bryan Cranston is such a great actor that he is the only one who actually breaks down his most iconic characters; not like others that just tell funny anecdotes or talk about unpublished events. He got to the point of describing his creative process behind each character.
So true!!!
Tony Leung did the same. They're both legends.
It’s crazy how some of the evilest, despicable characters in film history are played by some of the most sweetest, down to earth people. Walter White and Bryan Cranston could not be any different which displays his talent as an actor.
"I went to consult my wife because what I do affects her"
A distinctly non-WW move lol
@@IoanCenturion but a very Hal like move lol
Walt was *NOT* evil, he did it all so his family could live a full life after he was gone..his family were the selfish and evil ones, fxck Walt JR
@@optimusprime7243 He literally poisoned a child
@@IoanCenturion when? I don't remember that, granted I'm still rewatching after all these years, but I don't think he'd do that, what purpose?
Haven’t seen Malcom in the Middle since it was canceled. The roller skating episode was hilarious & unforgettable.
It's all free on The Roku Channel.
@@1zymn1That’s awesome. Thanks for saying this.
That’s so funny you said this 😂 when I think of Malcolm in the Middle & Hal, first thing comes to mind is the roller blading episode lol
I’m so blessed I had the opportunity to meet Bryan. I’m a massive breaking bad fan, but I first discovered him watching Malcolm in the middle when I was in junior high. Though there was a huge crowd, he took a selfie with me and complimented my goatee and even let me call him Hal. What a guy
I met him at wynwood on Friday! Isnt he the best!!
Bryan Cranston was a cornerstone of my childhood, adolescence, and now, my adulthood. I love seeing his range and growing up seeing him play with his skills as an actor
JUST COMPLETED BREAKING BAD FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST NIGHT. BINGO PERFECT TIMING
A Amazing Series
Now go watch Better Call Saul
😂 😂 😂
@@art9033 on it btw also el Camino the breaking bad movie
Let’s just all take a second to thank this man for giving us one of the most iconic characters in television history in Walter White ❤️
*all his characters
And as memorable and funny as Hal !
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
He's played at least 5 iconic characters I can think of in a second. Maybe more if I took time to think of it.
One of the worst and most irrelevant and overrated characters in television history for sure. While Hal is his best character by far. Walter White is just a forgettable character written for people who watch comic book movies.
He is very humble to credit Vince Gilligan right out the gate when we all know that the entire show works because of his ability to effectively demonstrate his character's arc.
Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek were just BRILLIANT on Malcom in the Middle. Both great actors in the truest sense with amazing chemistry. 😊
bryan is so well-spoken and eloquent what a wholesome and awesome guy!
I love how Bryan explores and recreates the nature of each character, and how he seems so inclined towards balance. I love the way his brain works.
His thinking behind every role is so interesting and brilliant. It's great to hear someone who's so passionate about his art. His performance as Walter White is truly unforgettable.
He was really solid in Drive. I like little nuanced things like the way he puffs his cigarette and how he tells the driver "oh that's right you don't smoke, better off anyways." Felt like a real smoker
Bryan Cranston is so thoughtful with all his characters. He really loves to get in the mindset of the person he's playing and it's so neat to see how detailed he gets with why the characters do what they do and the core of them. Brilliant actor.
Bryan Cranston even learned to WALK for Malcolm in the middle. What a legend!
And he did some hilarious walking on there.
“I know you…let’s go play” is such a badass line
"Who wants to make five bucks?!"
Hal was such an affectionate and loving father.
I've said it all the time and say it now: The way he potrayed Hal in Malcom In The Middle is the most funny and authentic acting I've seen in a sitcom.
The fact he pitched his death in Drive and it was one of the most well put together scenes I’ve seen (lol) crazy to me.
one of the greatest actors ever and the most humble, bryan cranston is a gem
“Tell us about playing the greatest character on TV since Tony Soprano”
“Funny mustache blend into wall”
Wow I didn't know Bryan came up with his death scene in Driver. I loved that scene. Made it so intense.
Drive but yes I agree, that scene creeped me out and stayed with me.
Driver is a 1978 movie that inspired Drive 2011
Yeah great scene
malcolm in the middle reunion movie?? YES PLEASE! bryan really hope you make it happen 🤞❤
“You’re not going in to an audition trying to get a job…. You’re going in to DO a job.” Possibly the best audition advice I’ve ever heard.
The rollarskating episode of Malcolm in the Middle is one of the best episodes of television out there and its so funny knowing he learned to roller-skate for the show specifically!
He is honestly one of the best to ever do it. Humble and talented
God, Malcom in the middle was such a great show
Such a thoughtful man and actor. Seems really down to earth and genuine.
A very cerebral actor. It speaks to why his characters are so nuanced, and well performed.
What impresses me about Bryan is that his brilliance in _Drive_ didn't just improve his role, but it improved Albert Brooks' role as well. A director would do very well to listen to his opinions.
Malcolm in the Middle was in a league of its own. Rarely does a show for that time period put in that much effort for a gag. One of a kind and most episodes still hold up today.
If he's an acting teacher, his is a class I would NEVER miss! I ADORE Bryan Cranston! He's an actor's actor!!
No one. NO ONE. Not a single other person in this world could have played Walter White as perfectly as Bryan Cranston. And I'm so thankful to have experienced the journey myself.
Bryan’s casting advice is also great job interview advice
I could listen to him talk about his role as walter white for hours tbh
A tell-tale sign of a great actor is when you can see all of their characters in their normal behavior
He’s so amazing in Drive love that he talked about that role here. Definitely one of my favorite actors ever.
I also love how when he speaks , even the most dire of circumstances you can't help BUT to pay attention and listen. Especially in " Your Honor" . Well everything 🙂
For me, Hal is Bryan's greatest creation! He killed that role on so many levels and layers.
I love this series. It’s easy to get caught up in the BS and gossip around people but hearing them talk about what they love realistically for a solid amount of time really gives you a window to the real person. Thanks GQ and thanks Bryan Cranston for your expertise!
what a legend!! malcolm in the middle is my childhood
I’ve seen 30+ interviews with this guy, and every single one of them was fantastic.
Imagine his wife had said 'I like it but I don't you away for so long'... we never would have had Walter White. Thank you to her.
I had no idea he played the officer in Saving private Ryan, and I have seen that scene probably 50 times.
Finally he's here!!! So humble and smart, blessings to him!!!❤️
Clicked for Walt, stayed for Bryan
I really love how bryan started with mitm and then breaking bad. I feel like without those 2 shows it'll be hard to comprehend how amazing his acting range truly is
So thankful for this format of interview gaining such traction. With a wonderful actor and talented interviewee like Bryan Cranston this was such a great watch. Great takeaways about Bryan himself and acting in general.
I never really realized how early Walter White looks like Ned Flanders 🤣😂
True lol but Walts mustache couldnt hold a candle to steady neddy's
Bryan cranston is just every character hes ever played into one guy that looks like your suburban next door neighbor
his way of speaking of his craft is so refreshing. he is so involved, he loves what he does, & thats what makes him so good. increased my love for that bryan cranston💯
SO HAPPY BRYAN IS FINALLY FEATURED!!
I love this guy! So incredibly talented yet so incredibly humble and down to earth. Kudos Mr. Cranston.
That explanation of the origin of the handshake while he’s talking about Drive is riveting. What a storyteller.
You can tell how passionate Mr. Bryan is whenever he talking about his acting career as a Job, such lovely teachful person
I always watch till end whatever video he's in talk
Kinda crazy they didn't feature his character of Dalton Trumbo, considering it got him an Oscar nomination
I was also quite surprised.
He constantly talks about how every character relates to his evironment. Makes a lot of sense.
So happy you had him talk about Drive. What a great film.
Seinfeld was a shocker to me, but now, I can't unseen. I have to watch again.
“When you're good at something, you'll tell everyone. When you're great at something, they'll tell you.” - Walter Payton
Every actor, director, producer and writer whose worked with Bryan says he's the best. 'nuff said.
best GQ interview. pure honesty
The fact that he didn’t talk about his iconic contributions to POWER RANGERS!! He started off voicing a couple of villains and came back to play Zordon.
So happy they covered Seinfeld. Bryan rules (wish they would do these videos in chronological order though)
The outtakes in the Strike episode are hilarious. When Jerry and the two faced girl show up and Tim reacts to her not so good face, Seinfeld kept laughing so they had to do several takes. Each time, Bryan changed his reaction but it would be even funnier, so Jerry would laugh more
He is one of the best actors of all time, and his understanding of human nature is what makes him truly a genius actor. Also "I'm the one who knocks" is one of the coldest lines of all time. I just finished Your Honor and Bryan was absolutely phenomenal in it, season 1 was definitely better than season 2 but he was absolutely great throughout.
Bryan Cranston, Pedro pascal, Keanu reeves.. a few men that I will always click on to hear talk for the entire time frame.. and crave more
One of our favorite sitcom dads. One of the greatest leads in a crime drama. Such a magnificent human being.
Wow he's so good actor. Breaking Bad will always be the best show of all time! His acting is subtle yet incredible at the same time!!

Of all actors, Cranston is the most like a chameleon. Can’t tell you how many movies of his I’ve seen and never recognized it was him until much later. Really shows how well he turns into the characters he plays.
The movie but he played a Russian killer that was pretty good
It's always a treat listening to someone who loves and has mastered their craft
Still feels very surreal that I got to meet him 2 months ago. It was definitely something I will never forget. Love you Bryan
I was a teen when Malcolm was on and I never missed an episode. It was must watch TV for me and the beauty of it is that it's a show that's appreciated in value for me. It just shows why that show is still my favorite all time show.
I also love the fact that Cranston has such big love for it. It shows that Malcolm was never a paycheck for him but a show that meant something more.
Man he really is an outstanding actor and a brilliant man. I love hearing the thought and reasoning behind how he's created his characters. Always been one of my top favs, watching this makes me love him even more
This video is iconic already. Long time coming.
Although Walter White/Heisenberg is one of the best characters ever and played so well by Cranston, I was more excited listening to him talk about Hal. He was massively underrated on that show.
This is one of the best ones,
Thanks for you’re wisdom ❤
Just in the middle of rewatching Malcolm in the middle, so good to see it get talked about again by the legend himself
Fantastic actor- his range . It may not be iconic but as a King of Queens sitcom fan, I loved his role as the annoying neighbor. He deserves ever success.
