Propagating Cherry Laurel in Water [LEAFLET]

- Hi all,
in this leaflet I will show you how I propagate cherry laurel. It is super easy - just stick it into the water and leave it there until the roots are formed. Then I plant it into soil. Since I need about 6 plants I made 11 cuttings. Out of which 8 survived for now. I might still loose one or two when I put them into the ground. Similar to private cutting that were rooted in water, the transition sometimes shocks them and they do not survive the move. But I have plenty and it should be enough of them for the new property.
Thank you for watching and I hope you give this a try,
See you soon :)
hello, how often did you change your water, and did you use tap water? lovely video!!
Hi,
I use tap water, and try to change it once per week. but I usually forget so it is more likely to be once in two weeks. I top it up every couple of days, depends on how many plants I have in the container/vase
Do you keep cuttings in the same water? I'm asking because I have laurel which I'm planning to propagate.
I try to change it once per week, but usually I forget to do so, so I change it once in two weeks. I top the water up as needed. usually every few days.
Can this be done only in early spring?
Yes.but you still need to keep them inside until the last frost. And harden them before planting them out
@@seasonsingarden4259harden them before planting? Can you explain to a beginner gardener what that means. Please and thank you. Good video btw. Straightforward
hi, to harden the plant means to slowly introduce the plant to the outside climate. Since the plant indoors is in a stable environment it is not used to the change of temperatures nor brightness/intensity of the sun, so we need to slowly take it outside. First you take the plant out only during the day. and keep it in the protected shade/semi shade (protected are from winds and extreme temperature changes, I usually keep it next to the balcony doors). Then after a couple of days (or a week, depends on how cold the nights are) you leave it out during the night as well. After a week you can usually move it to its spot. Or if you think the wind or sun is too strong, then move it slowly to a more open area. I hope this helps
Have you also tried soil? Wonder what is faster
Yes, but i did not take notice of the speed. It would be an interesting little experiment
