Hi all, I got some periwinkle stems from my sister, and since I wanted to plant them in my garden, I decided to propagate them some more in order to maximise the number of plants. It is a very simple procedure and a rewarding one. I hope you give this a try. See you soon :)

Sweet Potato Slips from Scraps [LEAFLET]

Hi all, this is how I propagate sweet potatoes from scraps. It is easy and fun. And most of the work is watching them grow. Sweet potatoes have calcium oxalate in leaves and when grown indoors the oxalate crystals will form on the top side of the leaves. You can wipe it off with a cloth so they don't cover the leaves too much, cause it can cause the leaves to die. But please be careful, oxalate...

    Who in their right mind would actually propagate cherry laurel. IT IS EXTREMLY INVASIVE.

    • @seasonsingarden4259
      @seasonsingarden4259 23 дня назад

      It is still a beautiful plant and i don’t feel like paying for it. If you prevent the flowering and formation of fruit it will not spread. AND for any plant you should always check if it is invasive in your area or not. Here it is not considered invasive.

    Nice!! What is the mix in the pots for rooting??

    • @seasonsingarden4259
      @seasonsingarden4259 Месяц назад

      It is just my garden soil. I am too lazy to think about the mixes. And since i want to plant them into the garden, i prefer to root them in the same soil. It might cause some extra loses, but i find that plants are better when i transplant them. No plant shock due to different soil conditions.

      @@seasonsingarden4259harden them before planting? Can you explain to a beginner gardener what that means. Please and thank you. Good video btw. Straightforward

    • @seasonsingarden4259
      @seasonsingarden4259 21 день назад

      hi, to harden the plant means to slowly introduce the plant to the outside climate. Since the plant indoors is in a stable environment it is not used to the change of temperatures nor brightness/intensity of the sun, so we need to slowly take it outside. First you take the plant out only during the day. and keep it in the protected shade/semi shade (protected are from winds and extreme temperature changes, I usually keep it next to the balcony doors). Then after a couple of days (or a week, depends on how cold the nights are) you leave it out during the night as well. After a week you can usually move it to its spot. Or if you think the wind or sun is too strong, then move it slowly to a more open area. I hope this helps

    • @seasonsingarden4259
      @seasonsingarden4259 Месяц назад

      About 60%. Could be higher if i’d use rooting hormone. But the biggest issue is keeping the soil wet enough but not too wet. My pet peeve is forgetting to water my cutttings P.s. rooting them in water is a more successful method.and it is easier to see if the roots have developed

    • @CouchToBike
      @CouchToBike Месяц назад

      I didn’t think you could root privets in water. Is that not true?

    • @seasonsingarden4259
      @seasonsingarden4259 Месяц назад

      They are easy to root in water. Just like cherry laurels. You just stick some branches into the water and change it once in a while. if the water looks fine you can just top it up when needed. You can make a flower arrangement with them. Like some branches with tulips or roses. Then i just change flowers when they fade and the water once in a while. The water should not get murky. And they root. I can make a video about that as well.

      Yes, since it is a privet. I don‘t know what season you are in and in which zone. Since right now it is fall where i am, and i am not sure how hardy it is nor how cold your winter is, i would propagate it in water. That way you can see how fast it develops roots. It is the same procedure as i do for cherry laurel ruclips.net/video/0e23iCXFxAQ/видео.htmlsi=qHl-OBqH1AcI-1p7 once they develop roots plant them into the container and keep them indoors over winter. then in spring you harden them and plant them into their spot. I hope this helps

    I’ve read that if you have an established privet, you can find a limb that’s hanging close to the ground, dig a a small trench, and bury the end of the limb. It said to water the end of the limb when you water the privet. It said when a a sprout comes up you can cut it from the mother plant. Have you ever tried this? I’m going to try it in the spring. Seems like you could direct it in any way you wanted.

    • @seasonsingarden4259
      @seasonsingarden4259 10 месяцев назад

      Hi. yes, it is basically the same principal as taking the cuttings. The leaf nodes should be under the soil so that they put out roots. if you have the space around your plant you can easily propagate them like that. The soil still needs to be moist for them to root. But that would be an easy way to make a hedge. This is one of the methods my Mum used. You just lay the branch down and cover a part of it with soil. it is also possible to root other plants using this method like cherry laurels.

      Thanks for the comment, but these are live and kicking. And already transplanted into the garden. :) I propagate all my plants without rooting hormone. It does take them a bit longer to root, and I can loose a bit more plants that if I were to use the rooting hormone. However, in most cases it is not necessary. And I am not sure if there is one that is legal in Germany.

      @@gainsboroughline8288 The green cuttings are quite sensitive to the water - whether it's lack of water or too much water. It is easier to root them if you put them under the cloche or you can even put them in a plastic bag to keep the soil constantly moist. Also, they are sensitive to the sun, which will scorch them. So keep them in shade. The main trick for me is shade and making sure they don't dry out. But do not overwater. The soil should be moist but not drenched. I hope this helps.
