  • Learn how to propagate cherry laurels (Prunus laurocerasus) from cuttings in spring.
    We are trying to be as self sufficient and off grid as possible on our smallholding, our English homestead, with a little help from Hazel, our pup.

    I just cut a whole branch off which was around a foot long and rammed it into the ground about 6 inches approx two years ago. Now its 3 foot tall and doing well. Lots of new branches and healthy foliage

      Hi, I am glad you had success with that method. I only had very limited success doing it that way. Nicely done!

    Oh my goodness, you and your dog are absolutely adorable! My best friend’s mom always told us to pay attention to how the man that we were interested pays attention to his or our dog. I think you either would make or are, a fantastic husband.
    Totally off topic, I know. 😂

    Does anyone know if it's possible to cut off a branch and plant it directly into the ground? What would be the largest length of a cutting?
    Lovely Goldie!

      Thanks! She is lovely. I have not tried a long cutting directly in the ground - sounds like a good experiment this spring.

      You can do it with some species but not others and the smaller the twig the better its chances . Elder, Hazel and willow all work well

    How long do they take to grow and what is the next steps then aka pot size etc before planting in the ground? 😊

      Hi. We tend to just put them straight in the ground once they have roots, so we haven't potted them up before. Hope you have success with them. Thanks for watching our video!

    Our winters are very hard - should I keep the cuttings inside over winter?

    • @theviewfromtheclouds
      @theviewfromtheclouds  3 месяца назад

      They should be ok outside as they are hardy. Where do you live?

    • @JenniToivoniemi

      @@theviewfromtheclouds I live in Southern Finland and the winters can be really cold here. I have managed to keep some cuttings alive outside, but even willows look bad after this winter.

    Is it safe to plant cherry laurels if I have dogs? Had people say about it being bad for dogs but would value your opinion

    • @theviewfromtheclouds
      @theviewfromtheclouds  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi, Hazel never seems to eat the leaves, but if your dog is prone to eating things it shouldn't, I would be wary of having cherry laurel. Might be best to err on the side of caution.
