Good afternoon Morris ..... on 13 March 2018 I purchased 64 Hg Laurel Portugal ( 12/16in 30/40cm 2L) to form a hedge at the front of my property. A year on they have been absolutely brilliant! Now well over a a metre high with thick strong growth. They have been planted in quite heavy clay soil with doubtful drainage but they have taken beautifully. In the autumn I will give them their first trim using an existing open wooden fence as a template.
I also purchased 60 Buxus and 6 John Downey Crab Ornamental Apple trees. Once again planted in the heavy clay soil but once again they have taken well and have made a very attractive low hedge.
Not being a particularly experienced gardener I relied on the telephone advice that I received from the Hopes Grove Nurseries Staff. I found them very polite and knowledgeable. The delivery was prompt and efficient.
Overall, a hassle free purchase with a very good outcome! I would highly recommend Hopes Grove Nurseries. Thank you very much....

❓Which Laurel do you think would be best for zone 9b (Oregon Coast USA) in windy winters? I live about a mile inland from the coast.
Thank you for this excellent video!!!

the bark on mine are black and pleasent looking and i think it is a hardwood = very good for firewood, and i have a question of any potential for the wood being poisonous and should it be harvested in winter so it does not contain the sap or whatever, the thick branches are small enough that it does not require splitting to fit in a fireplace/cookstove

    Damm.
I like to get some more Laurel hedging. (Previous owners left me with 30ft high Laurel trees. Which have since pruned down back) But I am on the Downs, upon Chalk. So I don't understand the statement that they do no like Chalk ? - I was going to get some more Laurel, but maybe can I get 4t "Portuguese Laurel" easily ?

you shouldn't water them from the top, learned the hard way :P /green can turn yellow and develop infections if you do

Help my huge larel hedge is being eaten by something . Have asked numerous gardeners to look and no one seems to know what to do it is about 12ft tall and gives me privacy but more and more holes are appearing I don't know what to do . My husband was the gardener but sadly passed away 2 years ago just as this problem started
