I think the rule of tributing monsters really works on a symbolic level, as in many religions, including Christianity, involve a sacrifice to God. But somewhere along the line, Konami decided to include it for all high-level monsters, instead of just the Egyptian gods, for which the rule was intended.

There's an answer but it's a massive spoiler, so Ignore the next sentence if you haven't seen the season. It's all a big shadow game between Bakura's Evil side and The Pharaoh using the Pharaoh's memories as a game board, so not everything is going to make perfect sense logically, and would instead make sense from a game perspective. The Chosen Pharaoh is the only "piece" that is allowed to use the Egyptian Gods.
The only bad season is 3, the final duel with Marik should have happened in season 2, then straight to oricalcos. No grand championship in the beginning of season 5, just straight to Egypt and the story wouldn’t have suffered a bit!

What I love about YuGiOh is that Kazuki Takahashi really made the Egyptian characters Dark skinned. I remember seeing season 5 on kidsWB and seeing Yami/Atem a shonen jump protagonist similar to my skin was amazing added with Dan Green’s amazing voice for Pharaoh Atem. I still get goosebumps when Obelisk appears and attacks, and when Bakura says use the power of Blue Eyes White Lightening attack, damn that gave me chills, such an epic scene. Bakura stole the show here lol.
And I like how the first shot of Obelisk in the palace that we get is this giant outline of him looking down at everyone else. Later, he turns into the regular-sized blue monster but before that we get a real god.
For those that don't know in the manga to say that Obelisk punched out Diabound is an understatement. Had it not been for the power of Blue-Eyes to help shield itself Diabound would have been destroyed.
I never gotten into Yu-Gi-Yo but but I always wanted to because of my nerd love for ancient Egyptian stuff. Honestly, I've always been far more interested in Atem's story and wanting to know more about him than I ever cared about Yugi winning a card game while being a vessel for a dead pharaoh. I want just a spin off where Atem is doing pharaoh things and IDK, summoning monsters from gold plated cards while riding a chariot into battle. And while the fruit is low: Card games on chariots! LOL XD
If you remember this, yeah honestly same here, I would love to see how Atems life back in Egypt, it’s the one reason why season 5 is my top favorite season. They really should do something with that and these days it doesn’t seem like something to far fetched to make, many people would totally dig a new season and Konami will continue to bank on the nostalgia per usual.

In my opinion, the second half of season 5 was the best season of Yugioh. Atem travelling back into his lost memories and playing the Ultimate Shadow Game was really cool. The origin of Duel Monsters, the birth of the Dark Magician. Plus the music that they use is really good as well!

And I like how the first shot of Obelisk in the palace that we get is this giant outline of him looking down at everyone else. Later, he turns into the regular-sized blue monster but before that we get a real god.

For those that don't know in the manga to say that Obelisk punched out Diabound is an understatement. Had it not been for the power of Blue-Eyes to help shield itself Diabound would have been destroyed.

I never gotten into Yu-Gi-Yo but but I always wanted to because of my nerd love for ancient Egyptian stuff. Honestly, I've always been far more interested in Atem's story and wanting to know more about him than I ever cared about Yugi winning a card game while being a vessel for a dead pharaoh. I want just a spin off where Atem is doing pharaoh things and IDK, summoning monsters from gold plated cards while riding a chariot into battle.

If you remember this, yeah honestly same here, I would love to see how Atems life back in Egypt, it’s the one reason why season 5 is my top favorite season. They really should do something with that and these days it doesn’t seem like something to far fetched to make, many people would totally dig a new season and Konami will continue to bank on the nostalgia per usual.

For the rich they used motorcycles to make duels more exciting since watching 2 people standing is boring. But imagine what would happen if the damage became real when dueling on motorcycle.

In my opinion, the second half of season 5 was the best season of Yugioh. Atem travelling back into his lost memories and playing the Ultimate Shadow Game was really cool. The origin of Duel Monsters, the birth of the Dark Magician. Plus the music that they use is really good as well!
