I don’t know mate. Technically Yugi/Yami never broke the rules. The manga (Which did not have many crazy restrictions) was first released many years before the IRL Trading Card Game. The Anime just follows the manga logic. Plus is pretty hard to lose when you are the fated “King of Games”.
Well in anime many things were different , like many of the cards' effects , and as for infinity + 1 , it wasn't plus 1 they had same amount both infinity , it was the effect of the yugi's monster which brought back the 3 knights , you can check the wikia
The dub's script was largely objectively bad, but damn if the voice cast wasn't just fantastic. Watching through, they do such a good job of selling the laughable dialogue that I can almost buy into the fate of the world hanging on the results of a card game.
My only major issue with that duel is that Kaiba punted in a huge way. He already had a huge lead, and could have simply revived Obelisk again using Monster Reborn, which Yugi/Yami really would have had no additional way to answer. Instead, he went for a complicated strategy to create Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon, that let Yugi copy a bunch of cards and win the game. That's on top of countering Magic Formula, which wasn't really relevant, instead of saving the counter for something that would actually cost him the game (namely, De-fusion).
@@DigimonFan814 True, but Kaiba's ego was probably too focused on his Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon strategy as a final humiliation. It's like how in the Pyramid of Light movie he refused to simply end the duel with a traditional attack because he wanted it to come from the God Cards under his control. That hubris has always been Kaiba's weakness.
Dark Magician Girl. Ah, the OG's Waifu. She does not even talk and still manages to look adorable and cute. She has her own OST in the Sub, and has several structure decks IRL just for her. Plus she was hot AF. Pretty OP Waifu.

Yugi vs Marik was too much pre-determined Egyptian God card stuff and honestly by the end Marik's craziness and voice distortion had run thin for me. Spoilers ahead: Winning (or at least gaining a huge advantage) via awesome lockdown combos seems to be Yugi's MO; he uses it against Strings, then against Atem to take down the Egyptian God Cards, then once more to defeat Diva in the Dark Side of Dimensions movie.
Yugi has had a lot of great opponent but for me his rivalry with Kaiba was the best on the whole show. Despite them being rivals for most of the show they both recognized how good the other was. Their Battle City duel in the semifinals was my favorite
What I love about Yugi's victory of Slifer and Strings is that it represents the spirit of the game: sure, in real life, a lot of what Yugi does is against the rules or is just not what the real world version of the card does, but still, the soul of his strategy against Slifer--reading the field, every effect in play, and utilizing the right combinations of cards and timing in order to bring about victory, even in the throws of near-defeat, that's what the game was all about. That infinite loop defeat was one of the most iconic moves in the entire series.
I agree. This was the smartest finish to a duel. I also like Weevil vs Joey because despite cheating, Weevil come up with a brilliant strategy that shows why he won the regional championship in season 1.

Yugi bragged to Atem when they were getting off the ship that he knew all of his moves. That was out of character of him to do and the reason why his victory was cheap. Also, Yugi didn't become the Game King when he defeated Atem, confirmed by Takahashi.
The moment where he makes a "create a card" contest to send them to space to teach aliens how to play Duel Monsters and then maniatically laughs in front of everyone in GX

I rewatched it during quarantine. And a few other youtubers have put out videos on it. It's kinda weird! BTW? Watch it subbed. It's SOO much better and like a different anime at times. I DID miss Dan Green's voice but eventually got used to the Japanese voice actor. AND OMG you think Marik is bad in the dub? He is downright CREEPY AF in the sub.
I definitely still have a lot of love for Yugioh and Digimon. Sure, the scripts can be really bad, but the shows are still just a ton of fun (and really nostalgic).
I never understood why Joey and Yugi didn't ever make some kind of promise that whoever won, Joey would get the money and the winner would face Pegasus to free Yugi's Grandpa. Even as a kid I could see the ending coming

Noah definitely needed a butt kicking lol I’m glad Yugi taught him a lesson. 7. It was definitely a duel for me was hard to watch but Yugi is such a good friend to Joey. 6. Quite impressive with Yami Bakura but still glad that Yugi won. 5. Strings gave me a chill plus Yugi was really clever. 4. Kaiba and Yugi worked well together as a team even though they are rivals. 3. Yugi is still the king of games after beating Kaiba. 2. The mind shuffle between Atem and Yugi was definitely clever & he’s definitely the king of games. Honorable mention: Dark Magician girl is my favorite duel monster. 1. Between Marik and Yugi it was definitely a duel that I would never forget.
Arkana vs Yugi will always be one of my favourite duels in the original series. Especially that turn where they just play out spell after spell and trap after trap.
Along honorable mentions I would add three Tag duels: Yugi& Kaiba vs big 5 in Kaiba's Virtual game, Yugi &Joey vs Paradox brothers and VS big 5 in Noahs realm
Dude number 10 is not only the greatest victory did he has worn but it was the car did lyrically he used to lyrically make me have my literal favorite boss monster in this entire game
The sight of all of Yugi’s monsters bum rushing Ra and Marik was probably the best part of that whole duel. Second best had to be that god level gut punch Marik took from Obelisk xD

Athem vs Marik is one of my favorite battles!, but also Dartz's, not very sure if they should switch places lol because in some type of way Dartz was hardest to defeat with his Divine Snake, yugi had to truly break the entire rule's book to win lol
I'll have you know that I am the king of this and every other game! Monopoly! Clue! Chutes and Ladders! I rule over all of them! Doesn't mean I understand them.
Yami was wearing that Seal of Orichalcos pendant, which all its users wear, when he first duelled Rafael. The pendant has an evil influence on the wearer. I think that's why he succumbed to temptation to use the Seal of Orichalcos and what's more, was able to use it all. The second time around, he wasn't. Remember, Rafael took it off him straight after the fateful duel.
I got a few honorable mentions. Weevil. From the duelist kingdom. Let me tell you, this guy is just one big egotistical brat. For starters he is super annoying. But that pales in comparison to him throwing away Yugi's Exodia cards off the ship and walking away laughing about it. Ultimately though, Yugi fried his great moth into a crisp when they dueled and seeing as how it was Yugi's first duelist kingdom duel, it's only appropriate that Weevil, the one who threw away Exodia would be the first one on the island to be eliminated. But surprisingly. This wouldn't be the only time Yugi beat Weevil, cause the second time, Yugi gave Weevil one hell of a life point attack marathon. Next is Panik. Another duelist kingdom opponent. This time, he is one of the goons sent by Pegasus to eliminate weak players. He uses fear and intimidation to win his duels. But when Yugi faced him, he showed Panik his true colors, that Panik did nothing but play defensive, and hide behind darkness, and even told Panik that he would beat him within 5 turns. And as Yugi counts down how many turns left, Panik eventually becomes the one who is afraid. And once Yugi sent his castle of illusions crashing down on his monsters, Yugi's victory gave Panik a well deserved mind crush. And then, there's the first Rare hunter from battle city. He used 3 sets of Exodia cards to win his battles. Playing nothing but defensively, and using cards to draw more cards. This is the tactic this cocky bastard used to beat Joey when the hunter and his goons forced Joey into a duel, and he steals Joey's Red Eyes too. Then when the hunter faced Yugi, in the dub version, the hunter threatened to tear up Joey's red eyes if Joey told Yugi about the 3 sets of exodia. But, Yugi is able to figure it out, and finds a really clever way to defeat the hunter's 3 sets of exodia with the chain destruction card. Yugi defeated the rare hunter without even losing a single life point and got Joey's red eyes back. Victory can truly be sweet.
How on earth was his orichalcos duel with weevil not on this list!!!!!?? It was the most deep and baddass victory in the history of yugioh. There was SO much story , emotion, and circumstance behind it

Even though it's not on here, my brother says Joey's duel with Marik is the most bullshit duel ever, because Joey was winning that duel and he should've won.
I'd argue even worse was Mai vs Marik. She had him beat. He had no monsters and she had 3 amazon warriors, plus she took Ra from his hand so he couldn't summon it. All she had to do was attack directly and boom she would have won. BUT NOOOOO she goes to summon Ra and then because of bs plot crap it can't be used unless you can read the ancient text. Like what?
I’m disappointed the Yugi/Jaden/Yusei vs Paradox duel wasn’t on this list at least as an honorable mention. That was a very good duel... not to mention the Dark Side of Dimensions duels

I always thought the Pegasus one was the best personally, it forced Yugi and Atem to swap every turn to keep Pegasus off balance and practically eliminate the millennium eye's power. To me it was a duel that Yugi and Atem (Due to their circumstances), were perfectly suited to deal with
My personal favorite has to be Yugi vs Kaiba in Duel Kingdom, but a close second one is Yugi vs Weeble. I loved to see more of that dark Yami like season 0.
I would love a remake of this version off Yugioh! Different story, same characters with all the actual rules, for reference just watch Selector Infected WIXOSS. At the same time i would love an anime of the original manga, Ygo Season 0's dark tone was pretty damn nice

Unlike Mai and Joey, Yugi hardly struggled against Marik. It wasn’t as dramatic as Pegasus and Dartz. His battle city duel with Kaiba was more epic. I guess winning against Kaiba gave him enough confidence to take down Marik.

In fact he already has when he won Slifer and with a VERY intelligent strategy I might add. Marik without his powers is actually a shit duelist and pretty much everyone he dueled had him beaten, only was saved by BS or plot convenience. Marik also preferred to toy or torture his opponents into submission instead of using actual strategy. Yugi was the only one he ever took seriously.
Ángel Macias It still kills me how incredibly lucky Marik got when he faced Joey. Drawing Monster Reborn when he had no cards left in his hand and knocking out Joey when he should have won. Bakura was his only fair win.

Lol but yeah, he was incredibly luck Joey passed out, otherwise Joey should won (though to be fair, Joey got to face Marik thanks to his victory by default against Odion, who should been the one to win that duel, so he defeat against Marik kinda balances that out). But the problem was that Marik never took Joey seriously and got overconfident. He knew that after Ra's attack, he would be left wide open for an attack and had this been a normal duel, Joey would have won the next turn. But Marik got too confident thinking Ra's power would overcome Joey. In the end it worked, but he underestimated Joey's strength and will-power that he never expected Joey would still stay standing and have enough strength to summon a monster. Like a said, Marik was a shit duelist who got too cocky with his magic powers to win his duels.
Your Honorable Mention list should've included the Pharoah's duel with Weevil Underwood in the Wake The Dragons arc. Best ending ever: the Pharoah pays Weevil back for his little 'joke' by continuing to bitch-slap him even after Weevil ran out of Life Points. Classic.

1. Between Marik and Yugi it was definitely a duel that I would never forget.
Arkana vs Yugi will always be one of my favourite duels in the original series. Especially that turn where they just play out spell after spell and trap after trap.
If you listen closely to this video, you can hear Kaiba's ego screaming furiously why he's not having his own list of his greatest victories.
Along honorable mentions I would add three Tag duels: Yugi& Kaiba vs big 5 in Kaiba's Virtual game, Yugi &Joey vs Paradox brothers and VS big 5 in Noahs realm

Thats a greater advantage than knowing Kaiba will use Power and Dragon strategy. You expect it, but you don't know what other cards he'll use. Yugi bragged to Atem when they were getting off the ship that he knew all of his moves. That was out of character of him to do and the reason why his victory was cheap. Also, Yugi didn't become the Game King after defeating Atem, confirmed by Takahashi.

Athem vs Marik is one of my favorite battles!, but also Dartz's, not very sure if they should switch places lol because in some type of way Dartz was hardest to defeat with his Divine Snake, yugi had to truly break the entire rule's book to win lol

Dungeon dice monsters arc was pretty epic^^
Yami was wearing that Seal of Orichalcos pendant, which all its users wear, when he first duelled Rafael. The pendant has an evil influence on the wearer. I think that's why he succumbed to temptation to use the Seal of Orichalcos and what's more, was able to use it all. The second time around, he wasn't. Remember, Rafael took it off him straight after the fateful duel.
Dartz and Marik Ishtar are both such bad ass villians...loved them
I got a few honorable mentions.
Weevil. From the duelist kingdom. Let me tell you, this guy is just one big egotistical brat. For starters he is super annoying. But that pales in comparison to him throwing away Yugi's Exodia cards off the ship and walking away laughing about it. Ultimately though, Yugi fried his great moth into a crisp when they dueled and seeing as how it was Yugi's first duelist kingdom duel, it's only appropriate that Weevil, the one who threw away Exodia would be the first one on the island to be eliminated. But surprisingly. This wouldn't be the only time Yugi beat Weevil, cause the second time, Yugi gave Weevil one hell of a life point attack marathon.
Next is Panik. Another duelist kingdom opponent. This time, he is one of the goons sent by Pegasus to eliminate weak players. He uses fear and intimidation to win his duels. But when Yugi faced him, he showed Panik his true colors, that Panik did nothing but play defensive, and hide behind darkness, and even told Panik that he would beat him within 5 turns. And as Yugi counts down how many turns left, Panik eventually becomes the one who is afraid. And once Yugi sent his castle of illusions crashing down on his monsters, Yugi's victory gave Panik a well deserved mind crush.
And then, there's the first Rare hunter from battle city. He used 3 sets of Exodia cards to win his battles. Playing nothing but defensively, and using cards to draw more cards. This is the tactic this cocky bastard used to beat Joey when the hunter and his goons forced Joey into a duel, and he steals Joey's Red Eyes too. Then when the hunter faced Yugi, in the dub version, the hunter threatened to tear up Joey's red eyes if Joey told Yugi about the 3 sets of exodia. But, Yugi is able to figure it out, and finds a really clever way to defeat the hunter's 3 sets of exodia with the chain destruction card. Yugi defeated the rare hunter without even losing a single life point and got Joey's red eyes back.
Victory can truly be sweet.

Even though it's not on here, my brother says Joey's duel with Marik is the most bullshit duel ever, because Joey was winning that duel and he should've won.

I'd argue even worse was Mai vs Marik. She had him beat. He had no monsters and she had 3 amazon warriors, plus she took Ra from his hand so he couldn't summon it. All she had to do was attack directly and boom she would have won. BUT NOOOOO she goes to summon Ra and then because of bs plot crap it can't be used unless you can read the ancient text. Like what?

Same. Even the opening duel with Gansley was surprisingly tense since the old guy wasn't exactly an expert, yet he had a good swarm strategy going.

I always thought the Pegasus one was the best personally, it forced Yugi and Atem to swap every turn to keep Pegasus off balance and practically eliminate the millennium eye's power. To me it was a duel that Yugi and Atem (Due to their circumstances), were perfectly suited to deal with

My personal favorite has to be Yugi vs Kaiba in Duel Kingdom, but a close second one is Yugi vs Weeble. I loved to see more of that dark Yami like season 0.
All good victories, but the first duel with Exodia, to my brother and me, is the best.

Unlike Mai and Joey, Yugi hardly struggled against Marik. It wasn’t as dramatic as Pegasus and Dartz. His battle city duel with Kaiba was more epic. I guess winning against Kaiba gave him enough confidence to take down Marik.
Joey and Mai could have beaten Marik easily but they lost to cheap Plot Armor, Yugi only beat him because he is the protagonist

@@varkolak7779 That's BS. Yugi could have easily beaten Marik if it weren't for him using his dark powers to try and weaken him as well as using Good Marik and Little Yugi as pawns. In fact he already has when he won Slifer and with a VERY intelligent strategy I might add. Marik without his powers is actually a shit duelist and pretty much everyone he dueled had him beaten, only was saved by BS or plot convenience. Marik also preferred to toy or torture his opponents into submission instead of using actual strategy. Yugi was the only one he ever took seriously.
Ángel Macias It still kills me how incredibly lucky Marik got when he faced Joey. Drawing Monster Reborn when he had no cards left in his hand and knocking out Joey when he should have won. Bakura was his only fair win.

Lol but yeah, he was incredibly luck Joey passed out, otherwise Joey should won (though to be fair, Joey got to face Marik thanks to his victory by default against Odion, who should been the one to win that duel, so he defeat against Marik kinda balances that out). But the problem was that Marik never took Joey seriously and got overconfident. He knew that after Ra's attack, he would be left wide open for an attack and had this been a normal duel, Joey would have won the next turn. But Marik got too confident thinking Ra's power would overcome Joey. In the end it worked, but he underestimated Joey's strength and will-power that he never expected Joey would still stay standing and have enough strength to summon a monster. Like a said, Marik was a shit duelist who got too cocky with his magic powers to win his duels.
Defating Yami Mario was truly yugi's biggest victory.😀😀
