Becuz it's too broken that can searches any spells, and treat all normal spells as quick spells. Card of sanctuary irl turns into an absolute garbage so i would think it applies the same to sanctuary
They had to add it since some key turns involved using Normal Spells on opponents turns. You could do that in the manga but not in the anime so they had to find a work around. Sadly they should have used Magic Sanctuary in a few other duels too since some of those also used spells at certain points that shouldn't have been possible with anime rules.
Personally, I’d like to have some of the smack talk these 2 had to have been kept, because it just feels like the video needs just a bit more “sauce” to make it more entertaining.
This is by far the best duel in the original series. By this point Takahashi finally fleshed out the card rules and mechanics enough to depict an actual proper game. The prior history of these two combined with high stakes of the story at that point and you got one hell of a match. Of course there's still the shonen fluff about friendship, but for the most part this is THE DUEL.
Good analysis, especially when it’s edited together like this you can see it actually feels like a realistic classic duel. Good back and forth and counters and strategy, like they are each making the best moves possible. But tbh for some reason my favorite of the series will always be their duel in front of Pegasus castle when Kaiba threatens suicide to win a children’s card game 😂 even tho everything about it made less sense

This duel is genuinely packed to the gills with filler. Even disregarding the Egypt flashback, it's interspersed with characters recapping info that just happened and that weird ass tournament in Joey's coma. It's probably like 2.5 episodes of content stretched out to 5.
The “babbling and yapping” is the fucking story These duels were written because the cards, the duelists, and the plot were intertwined. Cards were extentions of their hearts
It amazes me that this duel is over 2 decades old, and in the comments, people still don’t understand some of the plays i.e. using all spells as quick plays (Spell Sanctuary 0:37), and Yugi summing Red Eyes (In Battle City, cards that specify types can affect both players).
To be fair, I'd imagine most people watched the dub and I don't think they really bother explaining the quick play effect. I'm pretty sure they only mention moving one Spell to your hand.
People don't read manga. They really should at this point. But to be fair, this anime adaptation isn't the best and often needlessly confusing as to which rules it adapts.

Love this edit but there's one thing I wish you had kept. Yugi pondering what to do after Final Attack Orders is activated. In the sub he thinks really hard on the cards Kaiba will pick and has all his picks be counters to those, because Kaiba wants to crush his past while Yugi/Atem face and accept it. So the picks of Double spell, De-fusion and Diffusion Wave Motion are all a reminder of how well they know Kaiba and for as long as Kaiba denies it, he'll always lose to them.

I like how they tried to steal each other monster and card, to shown how tricky the situation if the other getting upper hand. It's a tactic that rarely used in modern duel because nowadays player only care about card combo and special summon with complicated ways.
Man I love card games, that feeling when your cards works for the situation and through plays you can overcome a hopeless situation. Best feeling ever, sadly nowadays Yugioh has none of that with the oh im going first so I can negate any play you want and if it's not enough then guess I lose...
Now if Kaiba had just took out Queen's Knight in the first several attacks, this would of went so much differently, cause Kaiba KNEW Atem's trick with the face cards to ramp into Slifer... but naturally "Because plot".
I was thinking that to but I don't remember if this is the first time Atem played Jack's knight. In addition Kaiba might've Been worried about him combining the magnetic warriors. I forgot the name of it. Also Kaibe could've still won in the end of it did not try to absorb magic formula. Sadly he lost to his ego and need to power up his dragon because it was still stronger than Dark paladin. However plot still wins no matter what 😂
This has actually always been Kaiba's problem: he always has a plan and sticks to it too much. His pride prevents him from considering other courses of victories, even simpler ones. Because he cannot for a second question himself, he always gets tunnel-visioned.

Kaiba knew Dark Paladin or any monster Yugi would summon would not have enough ATK to beat ultimate so logically Yugi would have to either raise Dark Paladin’s attack or lower Ultimate Dragon’s attack. Given that he knows Yugi only has 1 attack lowering card in spellbinding circle and he already used it earlier, it makes sense then Yugi would for an attack raising card and he assumed earlier Yugi already had one attack raising card on the field, so the logical next step would be for him to get a second(say horn of the unicorn) to win over ultimate.
Kaiba that day... did not defeat his madness, instead it grew and soon enough his insanity would compell him to go even to the underworld for a rematch.
the fact they customized their decks to fit their god monsters fr this specific duel and kept going for each other's weaknesses as well building on their boss monsters strengths made this so tense. "I'm gonna summon my god card first." "not before I summon mine!: "i'm gonna attack it" "coutner! now i'll attack" "i weaken yours" and it Just. Keeps. Going! and it doesn't stop there, they bring out their favorites, then the fusions of their favorites! Imagine if these two fought with their Envoy monsters? (kaiba had chaos emperor dragon in a filler and yugi had BLS EOTB as seen in GX)

Kaiba had this duel won twice. He could have: Used XYZ Dragon Cannon's effect. Brought back Obelisk with Monster Reborn and then used it's effect instead of going for Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.

Yugi could have won easily like 4 times: Lol 1) Using Lightforce sword against X head cannon, leaving Kaiba without usable monsters. 2) Attacking directly with Osiris when Xyz dragon cannon was banished. It's later confirmed in the anime that it should cause a replay. 3) Waiting to use the Card destruction ungraceful charity combo when Kaiba decide to attack instead of the main phase. 4) Select Mirror force instead of De fusion to destroy all Kaiba monsters...

The draw between Obelisk and Slifer was so strong the episode budget ddropped from 12:10

back when i was kid this duel was lit as hell. now i look at it and be like "ffs Kaiba you only use Ultimate if not Obelisk, ofc he would predict you"

Kaiba had this duel won twice.
He could have:
Used XYZ Dragon Cannon's effect.
Brought back Obelisk with Monster Reborn and then used it's effect instead of going for Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.
Thrice even. When he's about to summon Obelisk the 1st time, it's wild that Yugi could respond to something being summoned and hit the Obelisk as Kaiba was about to drop it on the field lmao. Yugi cheats a lot in thia duel mayne 😂
@@kyrios0307 Yugi didn't cheated there. Kaiba didn't said "shokan" (summon) (and that's the command that actually makes Obelisk's summon unable to respond to) in there so Yugi can indeed chain Lightforce Sword.
Same as why Joey lost against Marik because he didn't finished saying "Attack"
More like 3 times. He could’ve also wiped out the rest of Yugi’s life points with his 3 blue eyes instead of fusing them all together.

Yugi could have won easily like 4 times: Lol
1) Using Lightforce sword against X head cannon, leaving Kaiba without usable monsters.
2) Attacking directly with Osiris when Xyz dragon cannon was banished. It's later confirmed in the anime that it should cause a replay.
3) Waiting to use the Card destruction ungraceful charity combo when Kaiba decide to attack instead of the main phase.
4) Select Mirror force instead of De fusion to destroy all Kaiba monsters...
