Iroh was the single best written and portrayed character on the show. Many other characters were amazing as well but Iroh was the stand out.
Iroh bridges the gap between Zuko and Aang. He makes all three of them deeper and more relatable.

I think he knew that the Fire Lord would target the Sun Warriors; The reason Fire Nationals use rage to fuel their fire is because it was propagandized as the only way, in order to more easily control them.

I love the thought that Iroh discovered the sun warriors for the same reason Zuko did- rage was not fueling his bending anymore, and he searched through history for answers.
A show about young Iroh goig through his anger and grief to become the calm and wise man we know would be so awesome

The poetic justice of Iroh finally breaching the walls of Ba Sing Se - not to conquer it, but to liberate it - is beautiful.
Not to mention his fireball powered by the comet itself is majestic.
The same comet used to fuel the Air Nomads destruction, now used to fuel the Earth Kingdom's salvation.
Iroh is the delight and beacon of this show.
His onscreen time is always a refreshment to whatever was going on

Couldn’t have said it better, thats exactly how I felt when originally watching the series or even rewatching it. Some of the most memorable moments or scenes from the show are the ones with Iroh

I'd imagine he was about 90% his prime when he broke out of prison
During the time he broke out of prison, that WAS his prime. This isn’t the Force, this is chi. With age, wisdom follows to those who work for it. Iroh is incredibly wise by this time, and has learned the value of others and balance. During his prime age, he wouldn’t have been as skilled. During his younger years he was a fire nation loyalist, but when he was older he learned more than even his brother knew.
Iroh one of the rare people that used wisedom so well he kept growing until he died

5:36 - that smirk at the end though; I know that Iroh left a trail so that Zuko could find him, but it's just now occurring to me, after all these years, that Iroh wasn't trying to escape; he wanted the soldiers to stop their trek so that Zuko could find him. This is officially my favorite Iroh moment!
Yeah, he wanted them to take the time to try and smash his hands. Such a genius and unbelievable trust in Zuko.
This is why iroh is not easy to manipulate and to be messed with because he’s just as dangerous than what he seems to be.

Such an amazingly well written character. The dynamic between Iroh and Zuko is magnificent. He was the father figure/mentor Zuko needed, and helped set him on the path of redemption. RIP Mako
What I liked about his character was he wasn’t doing it for the fire nation he fought for morals and integrity

They also named a character after his original name in the Legend of Korra.
Insane how Iroh failed to breach the walls during his campaign but just blew right through them in 5 seconds with the comet. He is stronger than an army.
That's Sozin's Comet for you. A normal firebender gains master-level power, and a master firebender gains Avatar-level power. The Avatar is probably boosted even further.
The sozin comet gives fire benders the power of thousand suns. Ozai's words

Also something I really loved about this scene is Zhao looking back, watching Iroh taking down his men with ease as the fire lights up the place a bit. For me one of the very few super dark and somewhat scary moments of the show. Im curious if we get to see this in the live action.

No Ozai was stated many times to be the most powerful firebender in he world. Very strong arguments can be made for Iroh being the most skillful. Always kinda felt like Jeong Jeong was better than both of them low-key

Iroh understands that Azula doesn't need him, she needs her mother and the only person that can cure her from that is Zuko. By helping Zuko, he saves Azula and also she is dangerous to be around so two master Firebenders are essential to confront her

A lot of these scenes are great because they also show a bit of the state of Zuko as he takes in his uncle's teachings more as well as because it shows Iroh not only as a talented bender, but just a generally talented fighter in the many cases where he fights without using his bending.
I like how Iroh blows up the Ba Sing se wall, when Bumi probably could've just completely removed it...
