Yes! And it's not overkill, you know, very subtle. The entire show is that way though. Each character growing little by little piecing their past with their present and destiny. And before you know it, you're crying and yelling at screen, "That's my boy! Go Aang!"😭😊❤
the airbending shield around him is called the Air shield, and is only known by the avatar. he didn't learn it. just unleashing pure, badass, impenetrable, hell of a force field, summoned forth by his past incarnations
The Lion Turtles monologue to Aang is the most underrated, yet powerful part of the show if you think about it. “To bend ones energy your spirit must be unbendable or you will be corrupted and destroyed”. In essence, Aang was able to succeed in energy bending Ozai, as he didn’t conform to the ideologies of his previous lives, that juxtaposed his own core spiritual beliefs and moral standings, being that all life is sacred. Thus, Aang deciding to be sentient and non-compromising made his spirit truly unbendable and was not corrupted! It’s these small details that makes ATLA unparalleled in its Writing by any other show!
The dragon turtle's inclusion felt like a bit of a deus ex machina honestly. If we had 1 more episode between that and the final battle, or if a few more hints of the turtle's existence were included earlier in the series, it would've been a lot better.
Revenant 0713 we were given hints of Lion turtles in two prior episodes, being Wan shi tong’s Library (S2 ep10) and in sword Master Piandao’s house near the end of the episode (S3 ep4) and Even in the Pilot episode/S1 trailer.
In that moment he was most like Toph. He stood his ground greater than any Earthbender ever could because it was own spirit he had to hold in place. Its very similar to how Toph creates metal bending.
The entire series was building up to this fight, and in only 14 minutes it met every one of my expectations and more. The final few episodes of this show on honestly on par with some of the best television out there, like Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, Band of Brothers, etc.

just finished rewatching avatar and forgot how hard the finale went. literally had goosebumps the entire time. really the best animated show to ever exist 🔥
I really like Ozai's realization of the Avatar's strength. Fight begins: I do have the power. _I have all the power in the world!_ When he is easily overpowered, he finally admits it: *Even with all the power in the world* (you are still weak). He acknowledges how strong the Avatar can be, but doesn't associate the power of the Avatar with Aang as an individual until Aang removes his bending permanently. Such a fantastic resolution.
He might have also referred to aang not killing him and therefore being too weak to take someone’s life even when possessing all the power in the world. It would fit his character well too.
To be honest, that kinda sucked. How does the so called Fire Lord plan on taking the Avatar without considering he is the Avatar? There was never a Battle, just a careless child trying to prove himself to a Lord (and the child is not Aang).
I love how all of Aang's masters are represented in this. He retracks lightning because of Zuko, he can sense Ozai sneaking up on him because of Toph and he puts out the fire with the first move Katara ever taught him. Amazing how the writers made each of them important in this final battle.
@@zeno4107 you can't really call joeng joeng his master since they didn't get to the gist of fire bending before they parted ways. And with pakku we see to little of the actual teaching of aang.

@@inversehash5020 Iroh may be the only other person besides the Avatar that could rival Ozai, but Iroh admitted he wasn't sure if he could beat his brother. This should tell you how powerful Ozai is when even Iroh doubted himself.

I remember I was at my grandparents when this episode first aired. It was about the time for us to leave, and my dad was calling to us saying it’s time to go. We yelled back to him AANG IS FIGHTING THE FIRELORD!, and he came running and sat on the couch with us and we watched it, it was awesome
4:15 I love that part. Ozai knew exactly who it was that taught Aang that move, and I think for the very first time in his Life, he realized just how badly he had underestimated his Son
He doesn’t-not one bit. In the official manga "The Search, he doesn’t even show one bit of remorse for how much he abused his wife when she confronts him in his cell. Why would he regret how he treated Zuko if he doesn’t regret how he treated Ursa either?
@ I meant as in that moment when Aang was going to redirect the lightning, he probably knew it was Zuko who taught him that. Maybe more he regrets how he underestimated him rather than how he treated him
Yes! This! I remember as a kid when the day of the black sun part 2 aired, i thought that was going to be the final episode of avatar and i was so thrilled and sad at the same time. But then they dumped a bunch of extra episodes on us, Zuko joining, Aang learning airbending etc. This is absolutely the best show i've ever seen
Seeing everything he’s learned, seeing with his feet, redirecting lightning, using the Avatar State, and even his newest trick, removing bending, coming together to end it was brilliant.
When he’s in the planet of elements, I find it so cool how you can tell which element he’s about to bend by his movements. The creators of this show took their time and did their research and it shows.
The best animated show ever created! Still fills me with so much emotion watching this and I’m 28 now! I remember in 2006 I was still in elementary school and I still get the same goosebumps 18 years later

I love that the Avatar state is genuinely terrifying instead of being solely some convenient plot armour we root for. When he’s in that state, its no longer just Aang, but raw and epic power. like a force of nature.
I was always glad that the power of the Avatar state was on some level influenced by the level of power Aang already had. Like his Avatar state by the end of the series is way more powerful than the initial one. I don't think he could've beat Ozai with the Avatar State when the show started
@@MegaAJCProductions idk, he'd still have the power of the past lives, but clearly his body could barely handle the strain until here as he always collapses after it's use

One really cool detail I noticed is that by the end of the fight, Ang’s shirt is burned away, but his pants are still there. I think it’s because those pants were made in the fire nation and are probably resistant to fire
The sound effects they did in this show were amazing. You could always feel the impact of the earth, the heat of the fire, the flow of the water, and the gusts of air in the wind as every bender used the elements to their will.
@@ahmadraihan1667 I have rewatched this series a hundred times but I never noticed that it was a counter attack for Ozai's fire breath!!! I thought he just bursted out that gust of wind so that he'd look the fk up damn.

I LOVE that the creators fought for the epic orchestral score. Nick didn't want to spend the extra money but they wouldn't budge and they got it. It adds so much to an already epic finale
This show really had 7-11 year olds sitting on the edge of their seat in silence watching two literal SOULS battle. The most climactic scene had no cool tricks, no cool camera panning, no movement. And we were STILL biting our nails. Incredible
I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of watching this series. I will gladly watch it over and over again because I feel like it just gets better every time
Who could? Not a single bender could possibly beat a fully realized avatar in the avatar state! No blood bending or lava bending could beat it. Azula was the only one to sneak in an attack on one of them and nearly ended the cycle! Wow! And people still have the nerve of saying she was some weak brat... 😔🥱
It's always incredible when even as a viewer you get to see the raw POWER that the Avatar has. And I'm so grateful that the writers decided to make it a rare sight to behold so that it leaves you in awe every single timeee
i just realized this but the blue beam that shoots into the sky that basically ends the series conflict is the same beam we get in the first episode that started it
That's because that beam represents the spirit energy of the Avatar. In the beginning, it appeared and released Aang from his frozen tomb to return the Avatar to the world, so that it could be healed. In the end, it was the spirit of the Avatar overpowering Ozai in order to take his bending and finish the conflict that had ravaged the kingdoms.
The story telling to get here. The animation and voice acting. The contempt in ozias voice the fear on aangs face. The stakes being high. The anger of the fully realized avatar state with the cold destruction in mind. Then the gentle nature of a kid that respects life winning out. This is true storytelling. This is what we need more of.
I like how they didn't talk throughout the whole fight like other shows, but instead told a story through the fighting scenes as well as the dialogue scenes.
That’s the worst thing about a lot of anime, they feel the need to monologue and flashback throughout the whole fight. This is masterful story telling.

The sound design of it is brutally unique. Every other move in the show has either "oomph" or "whoosh" behind it, but that one move is PIERCING. It splinters. It's a shrapnel blunderbuss
@@reikosta4861 i think his bending in general. Also, i dont think there exists any character that is able to do lightning bending without being able to do fire bending. What’s great about this battle. is that it’s literally the whole point of the show. Like, everything leads to this. But it actually lives up to the hype. It surpasses the hype. Perfect execution
Yes. Lesser shows (and movies) sometimes don't quite live up to the hype and have some less than superb final battles sadly. This show is remembered partly because its finale battle was just so hype, not just Aang vs Ozai, but Zuko vs Azula. Without those two, the show likely wouldn't be regarded as much of a masterpiece as it is :)
Yo you know what i think i think that when aang was about to lose to him he went into the avatar state and all the past avatars were using their spirits to beat ozai because aang was losing then he suddenly cam back instantly, either that or aang thought hard about katara and everyone he cares about
The most exciting part about this entire scene is the chin grab and you know it. Will never get tired of the look on the poor guy's face when he realized he messed up.
I agree completely. I've definitely thought this in past watch throughs of the series. Any time you see Ozai earlier in the series he is shrouded by fire. He doesn't have any character progression beyond "Evil Dude" and I love that. Too many shows now days over develop the main baddy with insight into their motivation and reasoning. Is it too much to just accept the evil guy does evil things?
I just realized Avatar state is aang is where all the past avatars merge with him meaning technically rokus there and has a SERIOUS personal axe to grind lol
Yeah it’s the best writing I’ve ever seen. Two enemies made from events in the world around them and not from interaction. The first time they met was the finale and it felt right! Writers need to take notes from this show
I always thought it was so cool that Aang used Toph's technique at the end of this fight instead of the Avatar state. It was tactful writing and paid tribute towards all the actual training Aang went through.
Aang used all the techniques he's learned, the fire roar that zuko taught him, the push and pull technique katara taught him and the vibration vision that toph taught him.
Sometimes I have to remind myself this was a kids show. This fight was so perfect with the animation, attention to detail, and music. I still get goosebumps.

I really like Ozai's realization of the Avatar's strength.
Fight begins: I do have the power. _I have all the power in the world!_
When he is easily overpowered, he finally admits it: *Even with all the power in the world* (you are still weak). He acknowledges how strong the Avatar can be, but doesn't associate the power of the Avatar with Aang as an individual until Aang removes his bending permanently.
Such a fantastic resolution.
Aang basically flexed on Ozai by showing that he’s also a BENDER bender.
He might have also referred to aang not killing him and therefore being too weak to take someone’s life even when possessing all the power in the world. It would fit his character well too.
There’s a way that ozai could’ve got his bending back lol
I think that’s what he meant too
To be honest, that kinda sucked.
Amazing how the writers made each of them important in this final battle.

no more 240p clips or music videos
They did it perfectly
Mad lads
And they made it not just for kids too!
@@bgill6623 Well, and the energy bending that the lion turtle taught him. I love how Korra further explores what is possible with energy bending.
Love that too, instead of throwing all of that out and relying all on OP avatar state, the fully journey meant something, great writing.
@@break1146 I honestly think they went too far with energy bending. It got a little ridiculous in Korra
@@bgill6623 I think you meant redirecting lightning.
Sometimes I have to remind myself this was a kids show. This fight was so perfect with the animation, attention to detail, and music. I still get goosebumps.
You make it sound like kid shows are supposed to be mediocre
dewd, this is not a kids show
I believe this was for all audiences tbh.
Def not a kids show
Best of final fight!! Better than mostly anime final fight. Most story usually had problem with how to make good final fight and ending. Top in my list with Inuyashiki and Parasyte Maxim.
This scene from a kid's show has over 75 million views on it. Crazy when you think about it.
