@@exequielbreton4393 It's a joke from the abridged series of the anime.. Just fyi. And yes it's a 90/00's kids thing. The game was simplistic and straight forward back then, so I doubt kids now a days would be into it with how many rules, and different effects they'd have to keep up with.
This is a very fitting moment for Seto Kaiba for a multitude of reasons: 1) Screw the rules - and the future! 2) He establishes that it's his pride that makes him duel, and keeps him as one of the best duelists in the world. 3) It really establishes that his past self/ancestor used the Millennium Rod, and there's still a connection between it and him. 4) Kaiba was never one to believe in the myth and lore of Ancient Egypt and it's connection to Duel Monsters. But, in this moment, he chose to believe in what the Rod showed him, and in doing so, avoided the 'defeat at his own hands'. It shows he can at least "listen to his cards, as a duelist." 5) He sacrificed A GOD for his Blue-Eyes. If that's not establishing his 'means to an end' character trait, I don't know what is. TLDR: Kaiba is bad ass, and so is that music.
It can be argued that he's not so much listening to the vision as he is the Blue Eyes itself. And as YGO shows us, Duelists listen to their cards, even if they're as egotistical as Kaiba.
I always found it funny that Seto’s obsession with his Blue Eyes is because it’s the incarnation of his past life’s lover. Lol. Funny thing is, now Kisara has a card called Maiden with Eyes of Blue.
That voice actor voices a character in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and it's freaking amazing. He still has the energy and dramatic tone that he had when voicing Kaiba
my fav parts of the battle city arc are kaiba changing the future and yami bakura fighting yami marik and saying that he is the darkness and laughing like a maniac when losing the shadow game
It beats doing it because you hallucinate a robot from the "future" telling you to. Or _Man_ Kaiba must be envious he didn't get to be a legacy in Arc-V...
Kaiba says his pride and soul are solid and how they're his servants. Then serves blue-eyes. That's like a man saying nothing will ever make him kneel, then putting his wife on his back to carry her to the ends of earth... How manly
Agreed. Kaiba is somehow a really good representation of non toxic masculinity. He doesn’t care what other people think as long as he gets to play his favorite children’s card game. He’ll sacrifice even god for his past life’s girlfriend, showing he’s one loyal dude. Sure he’s got a big ego, but when everything you do exudes chad energy, wouldn’t you have one too?
@@supreme_king_obama1158 His toxicity comes in his inability to get past his trauma, but he definitely has a sense of honor that will triumph over that poison, eventually.

Well if he had attacked he would have lost, his sacrificing obelisk was actually an unintentional brilliant move. Blue eyes has been and always will be a badass over powered card, but this one saved him the duel. Or at least I think I remember him winning it. Cant remember.
Meanwhile in real life >Have powerful god card >Blast held by a tribute is a TRAP card that affects any tributed monsters >Obelisk is unaffected by spells and traps >Sacrifice obelisk to summon bewd > Lose game
I like the fact that Kaiba had a deep, meaningful vision of his past life, where he was cradling a dead woman's corpse and was overcome with grief... and the thing he fixates on in this vision is a carving of a Blue-Eyes White Dragon in the background. He doesn't even consider the possibility that anything else in that vision might matter at all.
All he is given is a tiny tiny glimpse of his past self particularly his grief over his dead lover (?) which was reincarnated as Blue Eyes White Dragon. He trusted Blue Eyes not because of the carving but subconsciously he knows Blue Eyes is significant to his past self.
(spoilers for JJBA, part five) It's basically King Crimson, remember part 5, episode 26? Doppio used Epitaph to predict the future, and saw a foot being decapitated. But when it actually happened, it wasn't his foot, it was his enemies foot, Risotto's. It's kinda the same concept here.

@@Goron1988 in fact kaiba is one of the few religious characters of duel monsters. In the Japanese version he was regularly heard praying to certain goddess of fortune to be able to achieve victory.
Well I'm religious yet when I actually read the holy book. I find the word "gods" many times. However ofc they aren't real. They are a myth. So you can't really take the literal meaning of God. It's logically impossible for 2 gods to exist. considering that God is omnipotent and two makes no sense. It's like attacking the indestructible shield with the sword that can destroy anything. Which is why monotheism makes sense. You are lost right? Yea me too...
Mohammad Fakhoury “God is omnipotent and two makes no sense”, that sentence doesn’t make sense. You know there are a lot of religions, right? You know in some religions there a lot of gods, right?
When Kaiba summons a singular Blue-Eyes to do a thing, do you think it's always the same one, or do all three of his Blue-Eyes have a dispute over which one is Kaiba's foremost playmaker? Blue-Eyes 1: Don't you know _I_ beat Ishizu and helped Kaiba change the future? Blue-Eyes 2: Yeah, and you also let yourself get trapped in a jar and turned into a cartoon. Blue-Eyes 1: What?! No, that was 3! Blue-Eyes 3: I'm pretty sure it was you. Blue-Eyes 2: And besides, _I'm_ the reincarnation of Kisara. So really I'm the best. Blue-Eyes 1: Why are you 2, then? 3: Settle down, you two. We all know you're both wrong. After all, it was me Kaiba revived after we all got melted that one time. 1: Ugh, gross. 2: I thought we asked you to stop bringing that up?! That's my take on it.
The real question is, what does the one Blue eyes that Kaiba doesn't own think? The one he ripped in half? You think it is jealous of how Kaiba treats the other 3?
Kaiba is the very definition of "Badass Normal." He doesn't have a Millenium Item. He doesn't _need_ a Millenium Item. Others need them to operate on _his_ level.
Kaiba is a full reincarnation of Seth. Yugi and Bakura are partial reincarnations who had their other half in their millennium items. Marik just has a split personality which was manifested by the tombkeeping ceremony and the millennium rod may have that worse.
Kaiba: Obelisk...Atta...... Blue-Eyes: I AM YOUR MOST TRUSTED AND LOYAL SERVANT!!!! NOT SOME FALSE GOD!!! I AM YOUR TRUTH! I AM YOUR LIGHT! I AM THE HAMMER OF DESTRUCTION!!! YOUR HAMMER OF DESTRUCTION!!! ONLY THROUGH ME SHALL YOUR VICTORY BE ASSURED!!!
it's funny how in the yu-gi-oh! universe, there are no other copies of those god cards, and how there's only four blue eyes white dragon cards where seto has three and the forth was torn up. the only reason seto and yugi were on top of the duel monsters world all the time was because of their unfair advantages of them having those cards, cards no other duelist had. if joey wheeler had blue eyes white dragons cards as well, he probably would've defeated seto at least once.
Sounds like how Hercule/Mr. Satan viewed Goku & company as well as Cell in Dragon Ball Z. That being said, I'm shocked to find that the people responsible for the Dub gave the script for this episode the shaft. This, among others, is a time where the sub is clearly superior to the dub.
@Santiago Scarpino Kaiba was the same way. He couldn't explain why anything mystic was happening so he chalked it up to trickery and blamed everyone else for it.
that true he did screw the rules. he was about to attack with obelisk which means he was in the battle phase. he activated a magic card and sacrifice during the battle phase.
For the entirety of BC, Kaiba's been using Obelisk on a power high to the point his signature Blue-Eyes, which he clearly took pride in and offense to seeing misused, became the opening act or even just fodder for Obelisk (the Duel robot, Tributes against the first Tag Ghouls, and then the play for Lumis/Umbra before Obelisk as the winning move). Now here the winning move (unbeknownst to him mechanically, just a matter of character) is to drop Obelisk for Blue-Eyes, and even against Yugi that becomes the case with the real meat of the duel being when the Gods both go down and he breaks out the dragons. Even works for the filler where Blue-Eyes is not only Kaiba's main play, but has its personal significance brought up with all the backstory around him and Mokuba. Reading a lot into it perhaps but I think it's a nice sign of bringing Kaiba's character back around.
I find it kinda funny that kaiba says the blue eyes has his pride and soul in it when the way he got those cards was by either blackmailing the original owner, almost stealing their company, or beating them up. I haven't read it for awhile but I think that's the way kaiba gets the 3 blue eyes. you'd think he wouldn't be able to use them like how he couldn't use yugi's grandpa's card.
Ishizu: Did you just switch from your BP back to your MP1? Kaiba: Yeah, so? Ishizu: That’s against the rules isn’t it? Kaiba: Screw the rules I have a dragon fetish!
@@regobing5435 You don't spell out "I switch to Battle Phase". So since he didn't actually already declare an attack, it's a grey zone, since neither can be proven that he was or wasn't in his Battle Phase. But he never spoke the word "battle" or "attack", he only said "iku zo", which means as much as "Let's go", and Obelisks name. Therefore one has to assume he never officially entered Battle Phase.
To me this scene means that you have to go with what you believe in even if others think it’s ridiculous. I know this weird but I come watch this whenever I need a reminder to focus up in life. We decide our destiny
This is honestly one of the best moments in the entire series. The soundtrack along with Kaibas Japanese voice acting, everyone acting in shock and surprise, Kaiba finally accepting his heritage (sort of) - just amazing. Of course it's kinda plot armored, because Ishizu's trap would still work, but still lol.
The genius of this duel is that the most logical thing would've been for Kaiba to lose with Obelisk. It would've been wonderful poetic irony. Which is why subverting that is so rewarding!
i think it was because her power RIVALED the gods, it wasnt stronger per sai, but it was close if not equal. you dont realy want a power Rivaling the gods being controlled by someone else.. so...@@saklee1777
Actually I think Obelisk is more like "Bro... I'm a god card... I'm inmune to almost everything and somehow I can get infinite attack... And you are telling me I am worth the same as any other normal monster when it comes to sacrifices?! You'll believe I'm worth atleast 2! This is bullshit!"
Fun fact: In the anime the tributing rule for level 5+ monsters was only introduced in the Battle City tournament. There was no such rule in Duelist Kingdom. Joey actually violated this rule in his first match and got called out for it.
It's not a fun fact if it's already shown in the anime and everyone who watched the anime knows about this since they talked about it and explained it in one of the episodes.
What is even funnier about this is that in the TCG "Blast held by a tribute" Destroys your attack position monsters and cause 1000 damage if you declare an attack with a tribute summoned monster, so since he tributed for his Blue Eyes White Dragon he will get the effect anyways.
Kaiba avrebbe comunque vinto! Avrebbe potuto resuscitare signore dei draghi e evocare drago bianco occhi blu con il flauto evoca draghi nella sua mano senza tributare mostri

“I’ll sacrifice God!”
*This is exactly something that Kaiba would do.*
Because he did lmao
This is a very fitting moment for Seto Kaiba for a multitude of reasons:
1) Screw the rules - and the future!
It shows he can at least "listen to his cards, as a duelist."
5) He sacrificed A GOD for his Blue-Eyes. If that's not establishing his 'means to an end' character trait, I don't know what is.
TLDR: Kaiba is bad ass, and so is that music.
Xen Kenshin the music is badass. Do u know the name of it? Cuz I need to listen to it on loop
Aidan Hays According to other comments below, God's Anger from the first series soundtrack
Personally, I think this is somewhat OOc from him, given that he was never one to 'believe in fancy magic'.
It can be argued that he's not so much listening to the vision as he is the Blue Eyes itself. And as YGO shows us, Duelists listen to their cards, even if they're as egotistical as Kaiba.

Kaiba never depended on the past to build his future so there’s some good symbolism in sacrificing an Egyptian God to bring his most trusted card
Granted, he's still relying on a card from the past - and his own past, at that...

The genius of this duel is that the most logical thing would've been for Kaiba to lose with Obelisk. It would've been wonderful poetic irony. Which is why subverting that is so rewarding!
No
Logic is winning by easiest method possible.
Being the GOAT is flexing whenever you can.
Obelisk like bro *WTF* YOU REALLY GONNA SACRIFICE ME FOR SOME ARYAN WINGED LIZARD
but wasn't kisara always getting stoned because she's stronger than the Egyptian gods? I guess not in the card game though
i think it was because her power RIVALED the gods, it wasnt stronger per sai, but it was close if not equal. you dont realy want a power Rivaling the gods being controlled by someone else.. so...@@saklee1777
Obelisk's face be like "rly nigga?"

Obelisk be like: "Itch becoz ima EEGIPTIAN isn't it, nigga?"
Fun fact: In the anime the tributing rule for level 5+ monsters was only introduced in the Battle City tournament. There was no such rule in Duelist Kingdom. Joey actually violated this rule in his first match and got called out for it.
As much as you try to like Joey, Kaiba's point about him is true
@@david95ms YOURE A THIRD RATE DUELIST WITH A FOURTH RATE DECK WHEELER

“THIS MUST BE ONE OF ISHIZUZ HOCUS POCUS MIND TRICKS”
It's not a fun fact if it's already shown in the anime and everyone who watched the anime knows about this since they talked about it and explained it in one of the episodes.
Looks like the rules (puts on sunglasses) just got screwed.
SCREW THE RULES I HAVE MONEY
+Kyla Otey it looks like this meme(puts on new glasses over the sunglasses) just got old
+Sin Overlord YYEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAH
so is the future
He summoned after entering attack phase. Worst player ever.
What is even funnier about this is that in the TCG "Blast held by a tribute" Destroys your attack position monsters and cause 1000 damage if you declare an attack with a tribute summoned monster, so since he tributed for his Blue Eyes White Dragon he will get the effect anyways.
Ishizu probably knew that and decided to give him the W anyway cause he literally sacrificed God to prove a point
Anime cards and TCG cards have different effects.
Kaiba avrebbe comunque vinto! Avrebbe potuto resuscitare signore dei draghi e evocare drago bianco occhi blu con il flauto evoca draghi nella sua mano senza tributare mostri
