Coleman PowerSports USA CT200U with a stuck open throttle assembly. This bike tried to kill me.
Coleman PowerSports USA, through many back to back emails with pictures and videos, calls to customer service, etc....was finally able to get into contact after tagging them on Instagram with a rant of my frustration. After back to back pictures and videos of said problem, Coleman Powersports USA has told me that my "motor bike is in normal condition" per their company mechanic.
So, to show proof, I took the "normal condition bike" for a test ride. What does this video tell you about the condition of my "normal condition" bike? This bike could kill someone in its current state. Luckily I am not one to sue. @ColemanPowersportsUSA now see that this bike is not in normal condition. We will see what they plan to do in order to get me back on the road safely. Stay tuned!

Same thing happened to us, bran spankin' new. Dangerous and frustrating with no response from Coleman. They don't care. People in the comments are all over the place on a solution, why isn't anyone agreeing on exactly what it is? Why isn't Coleman addressing this issue since it's so common? I'd think even their own lawyers would tell them to fix it immediately.
The carb is stuck open.
Probably an easy fix. The Honda designed linkage has been around for more than 2 decades and is a simple design. In the description he says he's an auto technician. lol. And can't fix this?
It’s literally the throttle release spring i don’t even know engines but a 196cc predator is toy to me. If that spring was put on backwards or upside down it makes a big difference when people don’t think so cause the spring is super small but that being put in wrong well not close the throttle when you let go cause of no tension
My new Coleman BT200X is doing the same exact thing. I crashed once (luckily no injuries) and am now afraid to ride it again. I'm glad I found your video. Thanks for sharing!
Same, any news
@@calebrod4203 Coleman paid for setvice on my bike. They had to approve the place of service first. Needed work on throttle.
I crashed to lol
the same thing is happening to me right now.
This happened to mine as well and my guess is the governor broke inside the engine and not holding the carb open for idle speed. I heard a loud pop and rattle in the engine and then full throttle as soon as it starts. There is not an idle screw on the Coleman carburetor, it is a preset nub and would not keep the throttle from going to full throttle. The governor is supposed to hold it at the correct idle speed. I don’t know if anyone else has had their engine make the noise mine?
Finally someone who has the noise pop with it i dont know what it is How Did U fix It
We have been in contact with you since you initially contacted us. This is the first that we have seen of the bike behaving abnormally. We will surely do what needs to be done to make this right.
Coleman Powersports So how does it get fixed? Mine has the same problem...
demarcus demonia I have two models performing the identical issue. Sounds like a recallable item. Coleman finally reached out to me after 3 emails, 2 separate phone calls to Coleman Powersports USA hotline, messages to Coleman powersports IG and tagging them in my video. I will post an update video with the fix, If fixed.
There will be a follow up video as such. I have been a long time Coleman lover for car camping adventures. I expect no less from your company. It took many emails, multiple phone calls, and even tagging you in Instagram to receive a reply. I’ll be more than pleased if our further interactions go better than the initial.
DIYautotech Okay will be tuned in if fixed because i would love to get mine fixed if able to
What is the fix? - my CT200U is doing the EXACT same thing. @ColemanPowesports
Hello,
Here is the response from costumer service after I emailed and sent information regarding this same issue I (and my 14 year old son) had with our 2Day old Coleman minibike....
“Thank you for sending me the information, I was informed that we don't do warranty work for units purchased at the Coleman Outlets. My advice would be to get it contact with the Outlet so they can confirm who to contact.
Regards,”
Calling the outlet now....
Outlet says that “isn’t true” and they the outlet “has nothing to do with the bikes once they have gas and oil in them. ”. They recommend that I call Coleman power sports back and talk to a manager. So I call them back and there is no manger there. Now I wait for a manager to return my call...
I emailed the info to my initial contact Then
got an email that there was a misunderstanding.
I have an rb200, I just got it yesterday brand new, worked perfectly fine. Today the choke pin slipped out the little piece it goes into and when I turn on my bike it starts to run off and when I rev it and let off the throttle the bike starts taking off as if I'm still holding the throttle down, anyone know why thats happening or how to fix it?
That’s is what’s happening to me with my Coleman ct200u
Same problem, lost a lot of respect for the Coleman brand. @Coleman Motorsports obviously doesn’t care that there building death bikes and I have yet to see a fix.
Lol accident waiting to happen
My Coleman CT200-U (FVRITO Performance VM22 26mm Carburetor). Did the same thing thru me of the back, while riding) Because i am not smart. I started it 2 times more with it going full throttle and launching into the air. I have replaced my carburetor. Seems to work. Mine is not a toy
Brand new Coleman mini bike just blasted my new 2021 TRD PRO Tacoma with this stuck throttle! My 13yr old was driving it, thank god she was wearing a helmet.
I’m in the hospital rn cuz my kill switch didn’t work either and I had to jump off
I changed the spark plug and that happened to me
I have the same problem, how do I fix??
I’m just gonna add: mine too. Almost went over a cliff on a gravel road!
did you fix it and how easy was it to fix
the easiest way to fix it is to loosen the throttle wire and tighten the break wire
To the Coleman Company and to all Coleman users:
I purchased the same Coleman CT 200U for my Godson for this past Christmas it was delivered late in December in 2019, while he was away on vacation. When he returned home in middle January 2020, he was not able to try riding the Coleman mini bike to the first week in February. His first ride on this Mini Bike was his last ride on this Mini Bike. He started the Bike and after he released the choke, the bike took off on his own and it did not stop unless he hit the cutoff switch. My Godson almost lost his life. Now, today after reading these comments are also very familiar to the same malfunction today it confirms that yes, this is a malfunction and this needs to be corrected. Today I also was informed that 2 girls, sisters at that, 2 years ago riding this very same model of mini bike, got killed after their were struck by an incoming vehicle in Florida, the question here is? Did their mini bike had the same malfunction, unfortunately we won’t know because they both died at the scene, to Coleman Company, the message here is, “Fix the problem as soon as possible before some one else gets killed again“. My email is crusader11qb@aol.com if you need to contact me. My name is Alex M.
Sounds like your idle throttle is too high, had a klx 300 do this, see if there’s a screw on the carb you can tighten
There isnt one
What seem to be the problem because mine does this? Please help can find the problem!
Be careful my brother
See now mine has the exact opposite problem my throttle it way too loose and touchy
Removing pull start cover lets a spring move behind the mounting scxrew when the cover is bolted back into place. It can be seen if the gas tank is removed. make sure the spring is in front of the mounting bolt for the pull start cover.
I have a Coleman bt 200x dirt bike and my throttle got turned up
btw i think your handlebar washers were put on wrong
Buy a mikuni thats how u fix it
i have a motovox mbx11 that’s doing this i put a new carb and everything i it how do i fix this issue someone please help
I had the same issue. On further inspection I found that my fuel line from tank to carb was too long and this caused the line to bulge out of its c-shaped bracket (on the intake manifold) resulting in the line interfering with free movement of the governor speed throttle linkage. I cut off about 1/2 to 3/4 inch of the fuel line and the line now stays in its spot in the bracket and doesn’t interfere with the linkage assembly anymore. Problem solved

Same for me
Mine was under warranty, Coleman paid a local repair shop to replace the clutch. It is fixed but I don’t trust it so I am selling it
I got a colemanct200ua and its doing the same thing except when I turn the choke off I go full throttle
I found a fix sub and Comment your Ig and I’ll dm you the fix
I fixed the same problem with a torque converter got rid of their trash clutch
Mine did this except after I took out the governor
Mine does the same thing, the carb just stays open at all times but idk how to fix it
My ct200 is doing the same thing ...what's the fix
I just bought mine and it’s doing the same thing does anyone know how to fix
My son’s started doing this today! Had to lay the bike down (he’s 13 & didn’t think about the kill switch) and it broke the fake gas tank on it... Someone please tell me what to do.
I have a problem with my trailmaster storm 200 mine is doing the same exact thing yours is doing please help me with this
Had mine for a week got to ride it 3 time and started doing the same thing called Coleman care center and they told me a place to take it to get it checked out the warranty should cover the fix i guess i will find out in a few days when i take it in i would call the number on the owner manual that is what i did and they helped direct me on where to take it
My son's bike is doing the same thing after 1 yr of riding. Have you found a fix? Seems to be an internal prob with governor not returning throttle closed

This happend to me in the winter and sometimes if u turn it off really softly it won’t do it and u could just loosen the throttle cable a bit also when I started in the winter that thing launched at full throttle and there was a parked car right in front of me thank fully I grabbed it and my cousin picked up the back tire and shut it off so there is your daily story
It’s just Cruze control
I had this problem before it’s just a spring hook stuck
I am sorry, hope you are okay that are having this issue, but geez this is hysterical. I have one and I do not think it goes that fast, full throttle.
Wow this seems to happen ALOT and of course we're all here for the same reason. My son told me his was stuck so I got on it and started it up. Man was that a mistake. It shot me into the corner of my garage door frame and I was trying to hold it back with all my strength. Sh!t is fkn dangerous & could've easily killed a kid given the right circumstances 😠
This happened to me before if was because the throttle cable had some extra length and it was getting the extra length to get the cable stuck on exhaust even when it wasn't twisted i suggest trying what i did which was bend the extra throttle cable length so it doesn't get stuck on the exhaust or cut the extra length
(sorry i'm bad at explaining lol)
Dude lower your idle screw
I have the exact same problem
i have the same problem
We put new cable on ours.
Stick throttle try to rev it
Why not show how to fix😂🤣
clutch is smoked, I know this video is old but mine did this, bought 2 carbs and nothing. told me neighbor and he said sounds like the clutch. replaced the clutch and bam it was fine. hope I helped someone
also it wouldn't do it with choke on, when you take the choke off you better hold on cuz it was all go. my bike was practically brand new when this happened. don't buy a cheap clutch from Amazon either, i did and it lasted maybe an hour and I smoked that one. I currently have a new clutch on and a backup because that's obviously a problem with these.
I'm seeing so many comments about throttle cable and idle screw, I highly doubt it's those from my experience. I still rode the thing tho i didn't care it was an adrenaline rush, but an injury waiting to happen :)
because people like me have the same issue and our bikes are not equipped with a clutch. in my case i can see the throttle blade fully open at rest. so as soon as choke is off, we have wide open throttle.
Any fix?
It’s alright my uncle had me ride his and once I started it, it started going and gaining speed by itself and I was going like 50 once I realized the breaks don’t work lol I had to jump off
It wasn’t the same bike it was a different bike and the kids played with it and ruined something without me knowing lol
Y’all don’t know that there’s a kill switch and you can turn the gas off this fix is simple asf it’s a tiny spring put on backwards “throttle release spring”
Doobie_D the dude in the video is literally just because he didn’t oil the clutch mine did the same thing. The return spiting is just fine
@@DooberD33 Are you saying put throttle release on backwards?? If I’m correct *serious question
Your idle screw is too high
Yo, we’re all waiting on a fix
Not even a video, even a reply would work
I got you
It’s the throttle release spring find a video on it. That spring closes the throttle when you let go but if it’s put in wrong or backwards or upside which often it is cause the spring looks small and irrelevant when building and preparing the bike for shipping
I have the same issue. Did you fix it?
If anyone in the comments is looking for a solution. I had this same problem with my Coleman minibike. It’s the Clutch, they don’t grease them at the factory. Remove it, disassemble and grease all the surfaces that are showing wear. DO NOT GREASE. Clutch shoe surfaces or disc surface. Solved my problems.
Right next to the carburetor there is a big screw. Turn left or right and adjust idle. If problem still exists change out springs that hold throttle arm.
Holy cow 😮
The idle is too high, my Honda ruckus was the same way when I bought it. I just turned the screw down
😲
How do you fix it
Throttle release spring is out on backwards so the throttle don’t close when you let go
Same thing happening on my bt200x
Did u fix
@@blackghost5062 I bent the rod outwards. So it pulls the carb closed. Temporary fix. Waiting to order the mikuni carb from GPS
LUBE THE CLUTCH!!
It's not the clutch. It's nothing more than a throttle linkage problem that is probably very easy to fix.
@@Deucealive75 I’ve been tryna tell everyone this aswell he’s bashing Coleman for a simple mistake on a spring that looks like it does nothing it’s so small just find it and change it up
Look on the carburator on the bike for a black philips head screw and turn it counter clockwise 1 and a half turns
Glad you made it to post! I got a similar model (CT200U; cammo fenders only diff, I think). My throttle was also sticking real bad; not returning; everything from LOOK OUT zoom requiring cutoff or delayed responses. My wreck was MY FAULT in forgetting I had manually opened it a bit when off; started & wheeled off to take out a wooden post but NOT the hatchback it was heading for; hung on long enough to hit off switch. Still due to stuck throttle/plate out of box AND some phuckery with a supersized governor spring AND these super lame return springs. Required professional shop fix; should not have touched it but nevertheless yes, bit dangerous. Was lucky I didn't have a wreck on first tests but to be fair the stickiness was obvious, I was stubborn and pushed it past recognizing an obvious issue. From other RUclips vids, etc., I believe this is a limited final assembly problem at factory completely seperate from an otherwise super machine and outstandingly reliable core engine.
Coleman PowerSports jumped on problem with SWAT-team speed and, critically, efficiently by digging up a 1-man shop in another small town to check it out. This after I whined about the distance to their first choice... problematic to find here in Montana with very few shops in even big towns. I suspect this took a ton of calls all over the western state as this is the season and everybody's busy. Zero question about warranty; they had shop paid and released to me within an hour of word given by shop. Just got back this evening after a half-hour check of repairs up a forest service road and it performed beautifully now fixed and with nice robust return springs. Wasn't the "10 minute" fix I thought; guy described taking half of it apart to access stuff and believe the throttle plate itself needed attention; not a mechanic but point is it wasn't as simple as may look on surface unless you know what you're doing. Don't bother messing with it; hassle but actually with better springs, etc., is slightly better than original.
You can bet Coleman knows about this; is not uncommon by evidence and likely has things like that too-long gov spring, etc. fixed/replaced at the factory assembly level... there's just a large stock already here waiting that needs to be worked through. Vegas odds they sigh every time they get a call but short of tracking down each box, they're stuck BUT aware and instantly responsive. No acknowledgement of "oh yeah, THAT problem" but no arguments, either. Buying one pre-assembled is an easy answer... and Murdoch's Ranch Supply does that if any in area. Hopefully they're not the only ones. MRS was my first choice but was impatient, went somewhere else lame, all boxed up. Was at MRS for another reason; saw them out front with price tags so ASSUME they'd only sell working models.
Sorry for TMI here but I want people to retain trust in Coleman and see this as a Life on Earth problem quickly fixed when encountered. See this "comment" and imagine my righteous whining email manifestos; they were always polite, always answered their phones (remarkable in itself lately). I have no connection with them but have had some serious global marketing contacts in past and recognize Coleman's stand-up response. [Co-author of "Loops, The 7 Keys To Small Business Success", McGraw-Hill Professional with Drs. Mike Chaet and Stephen Lundin of FISH! fame] I bought it for express purpose (besides fun) of any hope of making it through the insanely-rough Rocky Mountain, literally ON the Continental Divide if not a stone's throw below, terrain on preservation efforts on remote abandoned mine sites, etc. Before I admitted it needed to go in a shop, I went on an ill-advised recon of some new directions to one old camp I'd failed to find after several long searches on foot. Throttle w/delayed response, only 1/4 power at most (got stickier later to point of uselessness) yet it got me to the site in 20 minutes from 3 miles below the Divide then over a ratty trench track Over The Hill, another mile then quarter mile down what had to be an 8% grade of eroded 130 year old wagon track littered with more rocks than most riverbeds. What? 2.5 of arms behind back and got me outta there okay. Now in proper form, it's seriously akin... for me at least... to walking into NASA with specific needs and this is what they delivered to the delight of all. With milk crate Insta-cargo box safely carrying all the equip, etc usually weighing me down, I'm still riding with about 45 lbs below rating; tires handle the insane rocks, etc. Glass smooth on paved surfaces.
Enough from me.
CLEAN THE CLUTCH!

I have the same exact issue happening with mine. How is it fixed, I can't find anything on it
Burnt out clutch buy a new one it will be fixed
Don't waste your money on a clutch. Focus on your throttle and governor linkage. If you notice in the video the engine RPM is much too high. This means that either the manual linkage is not returning to idle position or the governor is unable to move the throttle on the carb to idle after the choke is open. A properly idling engine would never move the bike that fast with a sticking clutch.
@@Deucealive75 so how do you fix it?
You sir are the reason we have warning labels on everything.
His throttle release spring is on backwards when he gives it gas the throttle does not close because that spring is backwards or upside down it’s a simple error they did before shipping and a simple fix you don’t gotta take apart anything
Simple fix tho the throttle release spring was put on incorrect the spring is so small but put on upside or backwards will not have the correct tension to pull the throttle closed when you let go of the gas I fixed it without taking about a thing
@@DooberD33 mine is doing same thing and it started after a week of riding it..could it still be that spring? new to mini bike and any two wheel...

@@Gmt400 Did you ever figure it out? Mine is having the same problem. Just goes on its own!
I had this issue, swapped a CVT and still had the issue, all I had to do was add a spring to help the throttle close but then it took adjusting to be able to go full throttle
If anyone is reading this needing help, the metal bar with the spring that goes from the governor arm to the black piece on top of the carb is where you need to add the spring. Either to pull the governor arm back or just add it to the black piece on top of the carb. I haven't removed the governor yet but when I do I will simplify the throttle set up as I have like 4 springs in the entire throttle set up. I searched far and wide on RUclips for a solution and not many videos on it for how common of an issue. I will post a video if others still need help
