If you want more info just search lenovo ideapad hinge issues and there will be a plethora of results.
@@alexbarry2497 Thanks for your advice. I was actually looking to buy the Ideapad 5 Pro 16 with the 16" screen, which has an aluminum build (don't know about the hinge though). I went to the Lenovo store to test it out and amongst all the other lenovo laptops on display, this one was the warmest! It had a ryzen 7-5800H processor and dual fan system, wasn't doing much just playing a VLC video, but the keyboard was still unecessarily warm, while the ambient temperatures were cool and the store was air conditioned. I was very disappointed. Beside this laptop was the 14" version of the same model, which has the R7-5800U chip and it was running very cool by comparison. I'm now considering buying the 14" Ideapad 5 Pro. However, I'm bummed that the screen might be too small for my needs (lots of office work, going through documents, writing my thesis). I've owned HP laptops for the past 15 years and those models I had (which weren't high end, since I ain't got the money for that), had heating issues. I decided to move away from HP, since I don't think they have high quality products under 1000€.
Correct me if I'm wrong. It's AUO display in Yoga and BOE (or CMN) in Ideapad? Want to look at another Lenovo models on AUO, coz display is really good! Also interested in Intel-based Yoga Slim, is it the same display OEM?
Check my full reviews where i post that info. Good call and i think you're right. I just made a review of the Intel model. It's also for the Auo panel!
Also, when using your laptop in bed on top of your legs, with bent knees, you need a wider angle to accomodate the position of the screen. 180 degree will get the job done in that case
The ideapad 5 never runs hot. The Yoga slim 7 with 4700u and 4800u runs hot at high demanding tasks. It has fans on then, but not crazy high pitch fans. 4500u overall has an easier time to keep cool.
Hey i’m about to get the ideapad 5 in 2 days. Is the display that bad or is watching movies and videos still enjoyable with your complaints about the color? Secondly, Do you think i got a good deal the configuration is AMD 4600u/512 GB SSD/16 Gb Ram for 699 euros
It depends on how demanding you are! At 699 euros that spec I'd accept the screen being a bit off color wise... If you don't like it you could exchange it! :)
@@w2best why should it run hotter. Both are 25watts tdp as far as i know. The slim 7 has two fans the ideapad only one. Slim 7 should be much less noise than on the ideapad.
If you need fast gaming action these are not the best. Ryzen 5 can do light gaming but if you have to be at 60 fps ie I think it would be a tight stretch.
This is like giving a review of "Ford Mustang vs Chevy Camaro" without providing any specifications. Maybe one car is faster than the other, but so what if one is a six cylinder and the other is an 8 cylinder but that fact is never mentioned. So I wonder if one laptop is using Lenovo's "LCD FullHD" screen and the other one may be using Lenovo's "IPS FullHD" screen which is brighter, has richer color pallette, and wider viewing angles? Both machines can be spec'd with either screen technology - but that info remains a secret in this review. Similarly, they can come with WIFI 802.11n or 802.11ax as the maximum supported protocol, which will make a difference in WIFI performance. Which WIFI is in which laptop? Without this information it becomes a comparison of two 'black boxes' where we can only guess at the tech inside the box.
Hi, this is Excellent video but I have a question❓ after reviewing or unboxing the product, what are you doing with same products? If same products are still with you then can you sold me same laptop with reasonable price? I need only one....
That depends! In this case the Yoga slim 7 had a broken webcam and went back to the manufacturer and the Ideapad 5 wasn't the spec I had ordered so I also sent it back. The other lenovo Yoga slim 7 I am currently using as my daily office laptop. :)
haiii, can you give me any advice regarding a suitable laptop for me. I usually edit videos or photos and also study, presentations, read journals but I don't really wear it to play games. Can Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 be the best for me? Thank youu :)
If you edit videos primarily the Ryzen 5 or 7 cpu:s are currently not the best. They have big problems coping with video editing at least in davinci resolve which is what I use. For everthing else I think they are great. However with yoga slim 7 you have the version with Nvidia mx350 which could work better in your case. You also have the Asus G14 which has both a superfast cpu and nvidia gpu. It doesn't have a webcam though which I find to be a bummer. In the same weight category you also have msi prestige 14 and prestige 15. With the new tiger lake cpu:s and the gtx 1650 they come with I think they can be pretty solid alternatives.
I've read lots of mixed reviews about the screen on the idea pad 5, is it really low quality for using for work everyday (ppt, excel, word) and streaming netflix etc? Trying to get hold of the yoga slim 7 amd is proving difficult!
There are ideapads with 100srgb screen, but the standard screens are really not that nice. It's fine for office work but not great for media consumption imo! It's a pity it's so hard to get the yoga... But it's popular for a reason.
Hi! I'm doing a lot of schoolwork and doing video calls with teachers everyday, i wanna do some light Photoshopping and light gaming what do you recommend?
I think yoga slim 7 is a decent option but a better webcam would be preferable. I'm not sure about a good alternative with better webcam though. Dell inspiron 14 with Ryzen 7 4700u could do the trick!
@@w2best You are right about the processor issue. I was thinking of waiting for the AMD version but decided to just go for it has a i7 10750H which performs similarly to a 4700u and manages 11 to 13hrs of battery life. It only has one SSd slot though, but for £1070 i thought it was great deal.
Why idea pad 5 have an yellowish tint in the display. white are not pure white .. it have an yellow tint always even in my laptop.. is it because of anti glare feature
Ideapad 5 doesn't have very good colour accuracy. This is noticable when you use it for photos and videos. I wouldn't get it if you need proper colours for what you do.
Thanks for your great review!!! Got mine Yoga 4500U 16 GB. Great machine, but keyboard is ... just ok. After Macbook Air 2014 probably i need extra time to get used to it. Because of that i am planning to get mechanical keyboard. I start Computer Science in college and defenetly i will spend a lot of time typing. Do you have any recommendation for great keyboard for software development? Once again thanks for your content!!!
I use Logitech k380 and really enjoy it. Takes a little bit to get used to though. I agree completely on the keyboard in yoga slim 7 - one of the weaker points.
Hello! because of you i choose slim 7. its really great, but i have a problem, i accidentally deleted biometric software device in the device manager, now the problem is i cannot use the windows hello and i cant find the biometric device software anymore, and i cant restore the windows because i didnt make a backup or image of the device.
You can just save your files manually and then restore windows. It's a very easy process. Use a usb stick or an SD-card or external SSD for important files and then run the reset that is completely automatic.
Great comparison! I just bought the slim 7 for 700 dollars, with the ryzen 5 configuration. I was in between this and the asus zenbook 14, but the zenbook cost 300 dollar more, without having a headphone jack and it can't turn the display 180 degrees, hence I picked the slim 7. I liked the keyboard more on the asus, but I could not find it a justifiable reason to the cost difference. What do you think?
You nail every point of comparison I've made between the two. Better keyboard and a tiny bit brighter screen on the Asus, but I don't think it justifies the price and lack of 3,5mm.
Many thanks for this video and the others on these AMD CPU laptops, very useful. I am tempted to go for the Yoga, but before I decide would you help by checking if its monitor is HDR enabled (can it play HDR RUclips videos eg the 4K Bulgaria one for example?). Many thanks!
It technically has fake hdr enabled through dolby vision. The issue is that it will only work when used in supported apps, like microsoft’s original edge browser (NOT the chromium derivative) and as far as I heard, stuff like netflix’s app. It might also work with the default windows video player? I’m not sure. Blame microsoft and dolby for it
Your review came out a bit to late. I was choosing between these and Yoga easily won. The main differences are as you stated: sRGB screen and stellar speakers. I also admire glass touchpad on Yoga as well as extra USB-C port and 4K@60Hz HDMI output. The hidden difference are fans - Yoga has 2, Ideapad only 1. The screen lid is much stiffer on the Yoga as well. In my opinion the Ideapad is the lesser one in this duel due to the small price difference - Yoga is simply more of everything for just a small additional cost.
@@nehasultan409Yes, if you run a demanding game like Kingdom Come: Deliverence, it is really noisy - on the other hand it has really good (2 fans and 2 heatpipes) cooling system.
Thanks I'll buy yoga!
Thanks bro
Correct me if I'm wrong. It's AUO display in Yoga and BOE (or CMN) in Ideapad? Want to look at another Lenovo models on AUO, coz display is really good! Also interested in Intel-based Yoga Slim, is it the same display OEM?
Check my full reviews where i post that info. Good call and i think you're right. I just made a review of the Intel model. It's also for the Auo panel!
Also, when using your laptop in bed on top of your legs, with bent knees, you need a wider angle to accomodate the position of the screen. 180 degree will get the job done in that case
That's true! I never use laptop in bed but I can really see that reason!
Dell Inspiron 15 5509 plz make a video about that
Hey, just wondering, does it heat up easily and do the fans get loud ? Thank you :)
The ideapad 5 never runs hot. The Yoga slim 7 with 4700u and 4800u runs hot at high demanding tasks. It has fans on then, but not crazy high pitch fans. 4500u overall has an easier time to keep cool.
@@w2best Between the Ideapad 5 Pro 16 with ryzen 5-5600H and the Yoga Slim 7 with ryzen5-5600H, which would you say (if you know) runs hotter?
Hi, awesome video! but how about fan noise??
It's quite different between different Apu:s so hard to compare. See each review video of you want more info :)
Yoga slim ryzen 5 4500u or thinkpad e14 ryzen 7 5700u? Both ips yoga 100% srgb and thinkpad only 45%. Battery in yoga is 60w and 45w in thinkpad
Hi great video! I have a question, can you turn yoga slim 360 degrees?
No - Yoga is not 360 anymore. That is lenovo flex.
Comparison of fan noise / loudness would have been nice. Are there big differences and which?
That's really hard with different SKUs because the 4700u runs so much hotter...
@@w2best why should it run hotter. Both are 25watts tdp as far as i know. The slim 7 has two fans the ideapad only one. Slim 7 should be much less noise than on the ideapad.
Thank you for this amazing review! Do you know by any chance if one or both of these will be able to run NBA2K21? It's the only game i play,lol...
If you need fast gaming action these are not the best. Ryzen 5 can do light gaming but if you have to be at 60 fps ie I think it would be a tight stretch.
@@w2best thank! so maybe something like the Asus Zephyrus G14? or if you're not sure, it's okay :-)
@@udim7284 yes g14 or msi prestige 14 with dedicated graphics are great options if you want proper gaming!
@@w2best thank you! I'll probably go with the g14.
Perfect. Thank you
This is like giving a review of "Ford Mustang vs Chevy Camaro" without providing any specifications.
Ok, no problem. thank you for your reply....
I am planning to buy Lenovo Ideapad 5 with 11th gen i5 and nvidia mx450. Is the game performance better than the AMD specs that you were rewiewing?
Yes for sure! It's not a huge difference but there will be a difference in favor of the mx450.
does the yoga slim 7 15 inch version have the same screen quality as the 14 inch one?
I believe it does! I haven't tested the 15" though! The ideapad 5 15" has a better screen than the 14" though. :)
Thanks a lot , i was confused between them ,for a month
haiii,
can you give me any advice regarding a suitable laptop for me.
Thankk you soo much for your adviceee :))
@@w2best is your deapad 5 has the better screen?
@@ShovelE7 no my ideapad had a very washed out screen!
@@w2best can you send me the model number please
Are these only available in UK ? No luck here in USA. 2 available options are r7 Ideapad 5 and r7 Yoga 6, Thoughts ?
Thanks
Us hasn't had much luck with yoga series. I haven't seen it anywhere. Ideapad 5 is pretty good if you don't need the perfect colours!
Thank you
I am getting a choice between idepad version with 16GB DDLR4 RAM-3200MHz and yoga version with 8 GB LPDDR4X-4300MHz RAM ,which one should I go with??
You should go yoga for every reason. :P
Can u do the Lenovo Idea pad 5 intel variant please ...the 14 inch..Intel i5 variant with 8gb ram mx350
No I won't cover the Intel models more in depth. I'll try to get a tiger lake once they are out!
@@w2best what about the yoga slim 7 pro?
@@alicehurtado9292 If you can find it - buy it! But it's almost impossible to find at this point!
Great comparison. I would recommend you check out the 15 inch version of the yoga. I ended up choosing that one over the 2020 xps 15
I was never to keen on it because of the Intel only. But the spec is pretty nice. Does yours have 2ssd slots?
@@w2best You are right about the processor issue. I was thinking of waiting for the AMD version but decided to just go for it has a i7 10750H which performs similarly to a 4700u and manages 11 to 13hrs of battery life. It only has one SSd slot though, but for £1070 i thought it was great deal.
@@mujimusa Ah yes the 45w cpus are great so that's probably a good purchase! With 1650 too? :)
@@w2best yes with the 1650 :-). The thuderbolt port with PD is a great bonus too 👌

Doesn’t the yoga slim 7 4500u have a thunderbolt 3 port? My one does
Well it's got a usb c port but it's not thunderbolt :)
Could you share your experiences with the slim 7? I am wondering if i shoud buy it...
What about the ThinkPad?
The ideapad 5 .is the wall charger is square bulky or regular wall charger like hp ?
My ideapad 5 came with an annoyingly big 95w charger! Way bigger than the other laptops I've bought in this size...
@@w2best what about 7i wall charger . Same!
Please review HP Envy 15 with 4k screen and Rtx 2060!
I think currently that's not on top of my list. But thanks for the suggestion :)
Slim 7 is more expensive hence has a more premium feel to it overall, the features more refined.
Blame microsoft and dolby for it
I got a few questions about that before. I will hopefully recieve my 4800u replacement unit tomorrow so then I can do more testing with it! :)
A bit too late haha, I make videos on my spare time as much as I'm able to.
@@w2best I am sorry, I really appreciate your work and it definitely wasn't meant as an critique :D Keep going, your videos rock ;)
Heyy
How's the fan noise? Does it get too much while on heavy duty work?
@@nehasultan409Yes, if you run a demanding game like Kingdom Come: Deliverence, it is really noisy - on the other hand it has really good (2 fans and 2 heatpipes) cooling system.
