I drove my manual car for the first time yesterday. It took me a couple of hours to get the hang of it, balancing the clutch and the gas, but I did it! I drove it around for HOURS and loved every minute of it
i know this was posted 2 years ago, but realistically, this is my dream car to have. i drove manual for about an hour then quit because i was too hesitant, but watching this video and you're amazing explanation/description makes me want to learn manual just to get a type r- my dream car!
I just got a 2018 LX Coupe model a month ago. 6 speed standard. Love that car. I actually learned how to drive standard on my dad and stepmom’s old Subaru Impreza and ever since then, I wanted my own car that was standard. I got it finally and I’m loving it. I’m actually gonna upload a video on how to drive a standard tonight and I’m gonna use that car for the tutorial (I’m the only one in my immediate family who has a standard vehicle right now actually).
Good solid body kits amazing red and black interiors Better grip improved power and the best part A manual transmission wow as its a Type R model overall 8.5/10 !
My freind taught me in the philippines how to drive a maual when i was 19....i have to sneak out our mitsubishi celeste and drove in the highway...don't even have a license. It was fun but that's the end of it. Then i moved to the US and learned automatic...driving my 10th gen civic which i love...
I just randomly came across this video on YT. It’s filmed at the Sutton go cart track! My grandparents own the property right next to it. I used to always go rent carts there when I was a kid because I had a huge crush on Juliana 😂.
I got my license on a manual transmission car . I don't like to drive an automatic car. We don't get the feeling from an automatic. Real drivers drive manual. I haven't driven an automatic car yet.
The type R is a fun car and reliable however I wish it was rwd, also despite I know how to drive a manual your explanations were spot on, I have driven diesel manuals and they're much easier than gasoline cars because you can feel the bite point on diesel with a good shake from the car so when I drove a 320i I kept stalling and it was quite embarrassing 😂
@@heatherduke7703 yes indeed it's very different I was so embarrassed when I drove the 320i I went in there telling my bestie that I can drive a manual it's so easy 😂😂
I had to watch this even though I have automatics in my cars . I possessed a Cdl years back. I got it driving trucks . Then the fleet used automatic transmissions. I figured I be a sinch to drive a manual car. Nope. It’s so different. I could never get the knack of it without jumping into a gear or letting the clutch go to fast and have my neck jerk back. I just gave up. But your approach is great. My dad is 84. He says he can still powershift better than anyone just give him the car. Now I’m embarrassed, lol

Hi Kris, you know when to change gears because of the RPM. I switch gears at a low RPM to save fuel, but essentially each car is different in relation to how late you can change a gear. For me, I usually change gears around the 2500 - 3500 rpm marker, again to save on fuel costs. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Juliana
Hi Juliana how are you doing today and I do have a question about the honda civic type r reverse gear, do you push down the gear transmission to get into the reverse, or do you pull up to go do reverse. Also it does really help a lot but there are one problem, that is next time is it okay that you can show your feet to show us that to use the clutch and all the paddles, and the transmission gear to change the shifter so we can learn from it, and put it all together so we know how to do it? Thank you and showing us how to do the manual :)
I just want to know any possible if I change the gear from 5 to 6 and accidentally put on "R", question I ask because I just try to learn driving manual and I saw Subaru has a safety pull in order doing the "R" , how about Honda type r.
Lucky thing 2021 maybe as late as 2022 the Honda Civic Type R should come with a CVT Automatic It only makes sense manuals are not sold as much and they only limit the sales of the car having manual only. Also There competition Hyundai is making the Veloster N Automatic.
I think the Civic Type R would be awesome but I don't have much experience driving manual and I wouldn't want to deal with the headache of constantly shifting gears in awful Houston traffic. Same car with an automatic transmission would be the bomb
ya you're a bozo lmfao. the type r isn't a toyota camry and isnt trying to be or sell like one. Anyone that wants that car knows how to drive stick or will learn. foh
Wow, driving a manual transmission seems to now be a lost art, glad I grew up driving nothing but cars with manual transmissions since the 60's to present. For those that haven't though, this video is a good start, everything else will be easy to learn like riding a bicycle for the first time, now go do this, it's not hard to do.

Great information! I forwarded this to a friend that got an Si and haven't drove a manual for a few years.
Amazing! Have fun with the manual. I hope you and your family are safe and healthy during this time. Juliana
3:54 PERFECT. Thank you so much for this valuable information. The first part is always the hardest part when driving a manual.
Thank u!
Just got the type r... the sweet spot is towards the end. The car itself is very forgiving tho. My 370z was right in the middle.
Congrats! Gonna get mine someday when I have enough money.

If you've never driven an automatic, how do you know what it feels like? XD
I don't mind either one. If the car has less than 400 hp, I'd prefer a manual. Of it's a Luxury car, I'd want an automatic or DCT.

When reversing, do you have to press down on the stick THEN put it in reverse? Or do you just move it?
My favorite track!!!
Is it easier with newer cars then older cars? Driving manual?
Would you have more control in finding the bite point by releasing the clutch at first from your heal instead of using your whole leg?
Using your whole leg is easier.
Ideally yes, but the type r bite point is relatively high on the clutch pedal so using your heel will not really be doable in this car.
Love the video!!!!
Thanks Shawn!
Pounds of foot torque, yes.
hahahaha

I would say between 3000 to 4000. Too low and you will lug the engine and cause excessive wear.

It's funny I always start in the 2nd gear when driving a manual
Yikes...
Actually you can start to drive in 2nd gear if you have trouble stalling in 1st
Try starting in 1st.
