Honestly, him removing the snow from the car at the beggining of the video by hand was very satisfying, i've never seen snow in my life so this is something extremely unusual for me.
Honda technician here. 20:24 We have had issues with the infotainment system for the 9th, 10th, and 11th generations of Civic’s. Usually it’s a software issue. Takes a battery reset (remove both battery cables and let sit for a few minutes) to fix it most of the time. I’ve even had issues with my own 10th gen Civic.
We had the infotainment system replaced twice on our 2022 Si, it didn't work at all would not connect the phone at all even after a battery reset. It still does the won't connect thing on occasion, in our case if you delete your phone and add it again that fixes it for us. At least I know it's a common issue and I don't need to go back in and get a 4th infotainment system installed.
@@alienc3 Sometimes if the battery reset doesn’t help, we’ll even have to factory reset the infotainment. It’ll need replaced if it continues to fail after though.
Put blizzaks on my 8th Gen Civic Si, the lower weight of my car, and the manual parking brake, allows me to have quite a bit of fun in the snow while still feeling super confident.
Running Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 Studded on my Lifted BRZ (295/60r16). I agree, the low weight is a huge benefit and allows me to easily slow the car down on steep mountain passes. My weight distribution is 53/47 front/rear, so 120lbs of sand & other gear in the trunk has done wonders for traction.
Great advice about finding a quite deserted area to test your car's and your abilities in the snow/ice. I did that with my 17 year old last week here in Texas. It is possible she will not drive on something like this for several years so I wanted her first experience to be with me. Took her to a parking lot, turned off traction control, and told her to have fun. Took her a minute, but she told me later it was a blast and she actually could feel how the car and the tires were performing when she did things differently. Then we turned the traction control back on so she could see how much it helps. It's a lot! At least in our car. Us East Texas folks do not see this stuff often, we must practice when we do. Congratulations on your niece as well, fun times!
Tom, I cannot tell you how much you've impacted my life recently.... Long time viewer, fairly recent subscriber. I have gone through and watched all of your 'Therapy Drive' vids, and they have gotten me out of some awful mental states. Life has been very difficult lately, so thank you for bringing some joy to my life. I would LOVE to see a monthly Therapy Drive/Story Time vid, whether on a specific topic, car stories, or about nothing at all. Thanks for all you do, I hope you have a spectacular 2024 ❤
Thank you!!! This is an incredible message to read. I’ll try to make more therapy drives. Looking forward to some vile conditions to test out the Lexus
I had blizzaks on a 05 focus ZX3 with the manual transmission, it was a blast to drive, while trucks and SUVs 3x my size struggled to move I was just casually cruising. Also had the Michelin X-ice 3 and X-Ice Snow on other FWD cars and once again they were excellent in all conditions, even on ice I had plenty of grip.
I wish we got snow like that here in the uk. Even what was supposed to be the “worst in 14 years” was about 6 hours of it which by the end of the next day was gone from the roads at least. Love snow driving I always put snow tyres on my allroad for it and go pull people out of situations. Towed an artic lorry last year!
I am in Montana and wanting a Type R. I watched a different you tuber with one and he said its not a winter car at all and he wouldnt even drive it in the snow. I thought hmmm that cant be right, its fwd. Well this video confirmed my suspicions. Put some good snow tires on it and your good to go! Thanks for this.
Even though it's not what it was designed for, I noticed turning on active lane keep assist will generate reasonable amount of heat on the steering wheel at 11 and 3 o clock position. You might want to give it a go. But safety first as we don't have snow here.
Just bought a Type R today and had to drive it 1.5 hours home in the snow. The self control I had to excavate from places I didn't know were in me... Let's just say warm weather officially can't get here soon enough. Congrats on the niece, by the way! I was also blessed with a niece this past April. Here's to unclehood and Type R ownership 😁.
We have a 2016 civic and a 2018 crv in the family and they both have connectivity issues with our phones. No amount of resetting it or brining it to the dealer works which is by far the most annoying part. In the crv, it will often disconnect several times in the span of just a few minutes, or may never reconnect until the car turns off.
I recommend the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 Non-Studded Winter Tire for anyone who experiences a lot of icy road conditions but does not want / can’t have true Studded Tires. Hakka R5 is widely available for SUVs and EVs. Michelin X-Ice Snow is also a fantastic non-studded ice & snow tire. If you can legally run studs, the best tire is Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 Studded.
11:40 Love how he dropped that "Great Volvo" that happened to pass by, in the middle of his discussion on tires and grip. Yes, those boxy Volvos of yesteryear were amaza-great.
Well, your final take confirms you need an RWD winter beater for your 3rd car. Have you ever considered a BMW, perhaps an E92, preferably an M3? 😁 Looks like very fun conditions and I am a little bit jealous because so far this year I only had some good snowstorms in the middle of the night when I'm ready to go to bed, not outside to play in the snow.
I had just driven 33 km home from work in the worst winter condition I have ever experienced, on all-weather tires... the only thing that saved me was that the car is so light, has front-wheel drive and ABS/ESP.
I have Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 Studded tires on my lifted 2023 BRZ Limited 6MT. Same 1.5” ADF Lift as Chris (TheTopher). You wouldn’t believe what the car is capable of in extremely harsh Wyoming winter conditions. Driving over 10% grade mountain pass during blizzard & Level 1 Chain Law in effect (no chains required with my tires). Also found the limit in regards to DEEP snow. One of the virtues of the sport compact car is that it gets out there and performs every day. They aren't precious sports cars that only come out of the garage on Sunday mornings in the summer.
Dedicated snow tires on ANY vehicle make ALL the difference. I've had Mustangs that I have literally got out of and watched it spin in 1st trying to get into the garage (thinking back to 19yo prob not too smart lol) to a 1999 Mustang V6 one wheel peeler that drove great with snow tires.
What a relaxing drive! There is snow in Europe, but it just missed my area by about 50km. Also had Blizzaks fitted this week (on my very front wheel drive, very open diff, boring electronic handbrake Audi A4...), but didn't get to fully use them this season :') Maybe next year. Maybe in a spicier car!
Love this! I'm waiting on delivery of my Type R and already have a set of Konig winter wheels and Blizzaks on the way from TireRack. I live in an area currently getting pounded with snow so the winter wheels will be on before I leave the dealership.
I saw some dude drift a FWD Mazda 626 1.8 90hp like its a goddam BMW, on dry roads no less - so theres some truth, but FWD is indeed more risky to play around with losing tracktion.

I drive a 2020 Subaru Outback with Blizzak WS 90 in the winter. Almost unstoppable. But I even had a 2018 Honda Civic Si with Blizzaks and it did incredible too. They are just a fantastic winter tire.
Love these therapy drives, even if this was not a fully-fledged therapy drive it's still nice to see from time to time. idk about other viewers but i really enjoy these (found myself rewatching even old SI drives in the rain and such). I have a question: does the water temp never go to the middle in conditions like these? because you surely drove for more than half an hour and i think that's more than enough time for a 2 liter to get up to temp, but it seems just a line below it and it made me curious. EDIT: went through some older videos and it seems like it's always like this. idk how it looks in real life but at least on camera it feels like it's a line below the middle haha
I have the 2023 Civic Touring, and my biggest gripe is the infotainment system. It’s not all the time, but about once a month or so, it freaks out. I have to stop, turn off the car, and restart it for it to function properly. Other than that, I LOVE my car. I especially love the lane keep assist, it works way better than the one on my 2020 Corolla Hybrid. Thanks for the video!
@Tedward I drive the EX-L hatch trim and have encountered similar problems with CarPlay. One possible trick you might be able to use is disconnect your Bluetooth. For some reason (at least for me, with a wired CarPlay connection) the bluetooth function interferes with CarPlay and they sorta fight for connection with the phone. It’s worked for me so far, and it might help you too.
I just did my fun drive here in lower mainland Vancouver it’s just as bad as in Maine, so yeah, having the same fun buddy some people just came driving in this weather I wouldn’t suggest them going out in it. I know how to drive in this weather, yeah don’t get stuck even when you have good snow tires, be careful out there 🙌🏿
I had just watched your video on the SI and decided to click on this one I noticed on both videos your wiping your car off with just your glove / arm, if you routinely get snow I would really recommend a Sno-Rake. My grandfather owned a used car dealership for most of my life so I've spent a decent bit of time removing snow from 20+ cars to move them to have the lot plowed and the Sno-Rake is a life saver.
If you can find them, I recommend an old iPod sock for your shift knob. I bought a pack years ago just for this purpose. Perfect fit on a shift knob and easy to manipulate until it comes to temp (hot or cold).
Marketing leads us to believe a lot about brand reputation. I still believe Toyota products are above most in terms of reliability but it doesn’t mean there can’t be issues on some cars here and there.
Congratulations to your sister! And it seems like the car handled that really well. Snow tires definitely make a huge difference in conditions like that. Some people will think because they have AWD or FWD they don't need snow tires but certainly not the case. I remember being in snow and almost getting stuck on the slightest incline with my dad's van, as there was almost no weight over the rear axle. But the donuts in the parking lots were so entertaining 😂
cool thing i found out is even with vsa fully off with pedal dance, the agile handling assist never turns off, so if u appropriate use some weight shift in a turn, u can 100% oversteer close to like an awd car.
It doesn’t seem like you’ve had as much fun in your cars as you did with the e92 m3. I’m not a BMW guy but your enthusiasm in those winter drives was absolutely intoxicating 😅
man, I live in Sweden, and we've been having blizzards for the past couple days. And with the right tires, winter is absolutely nothing, and I have a FWD manual A6 Avant. Lucky for me I can actually turn TCS off completely, and as long as I find a nice straight, I can just throw the car around and really get some wide angles. And I've also learnt how to keep sliding. Just hit the gas right before the car straightens up, and it'll give you a throw in the front, letting the rear slide. I also have electronic parking brake, but just find your ways around it and its no issue:)
There’s just something about driving in the snow that’s really enjoyable. My work gave me an Alfa Romeo Stelvio with continental sport contact 4 tires? during a snow storm and lemme tell ya, it was an interesting drive. I’m glad they trust me 😂.
You don't want to clear the snow from within the tread when driving on snow. You want and need it, because of the snow on snow grip you get. That's why blocky AT tyres with big blocks and big gaps are absolute shit in the snow. You only want to get the tread cleared once you get onto asphalt, especially wet asphalt. Then you need those sipes to evacuate the water for extra grip.
Hey Topher! I'm a Canadian away for a year in Australia. Sorry to hear about your continued annoyances with the GX. I always thought the GX was cool, but if im honest Australia has really changed my perspective. These things are absolutely everywhere in Landcruiser Prado format.
I am debating if I want to buy a 2025 Honda Civic hybrid and I was concerned about not having all wheel drive. But this video made me feel better. Thank you!
I had to deliver mail yesterday in an LLV in KY. It was single digit temps a lot of back roads and neighborhoods were just sheets of ice. We had little chains around the back tires, but that did not help stopping since any touch of the brake would just let the truck slide forward lol. I did not have a good time in that turd box of a truck. It barely runs on dry asphalt, and gets stuck easily in gravel because of weight. Snow and ice? Nope, we should not have even been out there, but people need their amazon packages ha.
I just can’t imagine owning a Type R and driving it in snow lol. Between rust and worrying about someone else slamming into it I’d be scared to death haha. Then again this would most likely be a forever car for me
Loved to drive my MK3 Golf VR6 in the snow. FWD with a very very fun engine. Probably the best experience I had in a car ripping it (reasonable) through snowy German serpentine roads. Also one of the cars (or the MK4 V6) I hope to see you drive one day! Love ur content!
I have my GR86 on Blizzak WS90s with taller sidewalls than stock to increase ground clearance about 3/4 in. Throws off the speedo a little, but it's like 5 mph low at 70 (so real speed of about 75), so it's a non-issue. With the standard LSD, it's a blast and so predictable and easy to control with nannies off. I've used Blizzaks for years and the '90s seem like the best ones yet. I used to use left-foot braking with FWD because the parking brake cable would get stretched and, while not as good for goofy sliding fun, I could dance the thing down curvy roads. Don't know if they even let you do that anymore as I know at least some cars have throttle override when the brake is applied at the same time (thanks to morons in Priuses who hit the wrong pedals).
Got me reminiscing about my old STI back in the day. The suv/truck life in the snow just isn’t the same nor as fun. Super random but that jdm threw me in the feels. 😂
Honestly, him removing the snow from the car at the beggining of the video by hand was very satisfying, i've never seen snow in my life so this is something extremely unusual for me.

But I even had a 2018 Honda Civic Si with Blizzaks and it did incredible too. They are just a fantastic winter tire.
9:05 that's called "agile handling assist" and it's primarily there for responsiveness, not traction control per se.
Omg I love this so much ❤🎉
I have the 2023 Civic Touring, and my biggest gripe is the infotainment system.
My st is a blast in the snow. Off throttle oversteering around corners.
Had the same issue in my Tiguan and disconnecting the Bluetooth connection solved everything too
I just did my fun drive here in lower mainland Vancouver it’s just as bad as in Maine, so yeah, having the same fun buddy some people just came driving in this weather I wouldn’t suggest them going out in it. I know how to drive in this weather, yeah don’t get stuck even when you have good snow tires, be careful out there 🙌🏿
Congrats for the family! I wish we'd have this kind of snow. Greetings from Transylvania!
I had just watched your video on the SI and decided to click on this one
I noticed on both videos your wiping your car off with just your glove / arm, if you routinely get snow I would really recommend a Sno-Rake. My grandfather owned a used car dealership for most of my life so I've spent a decent bit of time removing snow from 20+ cars to move them to have the lot plowed and the Sno-Rake is a life saver.
i miss new england snow once in awhile
If you can find them, I recommend an old iPod sock for your shift knob. I bought a pack years ago just for this purpose. Perfect fit on a shift knob and easy to manipulate until it comes to temp (hot or cold).
Lemon Law Lexus? Indeed, the end is nigh....
But the donuts in the parking lots were so entertaining 😂
dude you should totally consider a leaf blower for the snow.. it's like the best thing ever for dry snow
I think my video of blowing snow off my m3 has 10 million views 😂
I had blizzak on a Corolla and loved them. Going with them on my rav4 when its time.
cool thing i found out is even with vsa fully off with pedal dance, the agile handling assist never turns off, so if u appropriate use some weight shift in a turn, u can 100% oversteer close to like an awd car.
+1 for inefficient snow clearing operations!
Here for that cold-start.
Everyone is so terrified of diving in the snow.
They’re also on old, bald, cheap all season tires.
Congrats to your sister! Love the videos always!
Watching you wipe the snow off was very therapeutic
God I love the snow removal content in the beginning
It’s true! -The Pedal Dance
There’s just something about driving in the snow that’s really enjoyable. My work gave me an Alfa Romeo Stelvio with continental sport contact 4 tires? during a snow storm and lemme tell ya, it was an interesting drive. I’m glad they trust me 😂.
I just love that interior color
You don't want to clear the snow from within the tread when driving on snow. You want and need it, because of the snow on snow grip you get. That's why blocky AT tyres with big blocks and big gaps are absolute shit in the snow. You only want to get the tread cleared once you get onto asphalt, especially wet asphalt. Then you need those sipes to evacuate the water for extra grip.
the white is such a beautiful car. Really want to buy the 2025
Hey Topher! I'm a Canadian away for a year in Australia. Sorry to hear about your continued annoyances with the GX.
I always thought the GX was cool, but if im honest Australia has really changed my perspective. These things are absolutely everywhere in Landcruiser Prado format.
I’m Tedward
I am debating if I want to buy a 2025 Honda Civic hybrid and I was concerned about not having all wheel drive. But this video made me feel better. Thank you!
Very cozy ride woohoo ❄😌❤
7:47 wait there's school zones that aren't 15mph? In Florida that's all we got lol or maybe I misunderstood the confusion
All of ours are 20 haha
@@TedwardDrives Wooooow, I did not know that lol I need to spend more time outside of florida haha
Where I am they're 25. Very confused by this information, honestly.
This is crazy lol was yesterday years old when I learned the standard wasn't 15mph@@ElliWoelfin
Then again this would most likely be a forever car for me
You nuts swerving right before passing the bridge while it’s snowing
Do you miss your Si? Or type R just overwrote Si's memories in your mind?
I think it’s all overwritten. I do miss 42mpg though!
I have Mastercraft Glacier winter tires. They have done great so far, in western NY weather.
