I concur. I find myself watching until the end of all Tedward videos (which I don’t do often on other videos). It does help a bit that I’m also a CW FL5 owner 😂.
They didn’t teach me how to merge but to be fair I grew up in a small town in New Hampshire that didn’t really have highways. Then at age 18 I moved to Austin Texas and learned to merge real quick lol. Definitely a pet peeve of mine when people try to merge 20-30 under the speed limit! Like you got the whole on ramp and then some to get up to speed let’s go!
🇬🇧 Thanks for giving us a little tour and some info on Downtown Portland, ME. Yes, I DO know my US State abbreviations ;) for somebody from England who has only been to Florida (FL) Twice in the last what 20 years now! Your Civic Type R is looking & sounding really well Tom!
my word. these honda civic type r POV videos has to be one of the best unintentional honda advertisements ever. every thumbnail you just see a red honda badge lighting a fire in you; telling you to sell your current honda civic si and pay msrp for the last Type R.
I love watching the type r vids. It’s my dream car right now and I’m trying my hardest to get one by this year or next year. Tedward convinced me that this is the car I want…thanks Ted👏
For my first 400 miles I averaged 18 mpg. I've seen a few posts on RUclips and on the forum mention getting close to 30 mpg so I've committed to raising my mpg for the last 300 miles and now I'm up to 24.5 mpg!
Just take a 1000 mile highway road trip and you'll be able to get 25 average over 2100 some miles, like I did. lol I don't know why I'm obsessed with trying to keep the mpg high either. That's not what the car is for!
If there's one luck, we have here in europe about cars, is that in a 2.5 hours roadtrip, we can see a lot of scenery, a lot of curvy roads, and a lot of landmarks in that time span.
I’ve gone to Sebago Lake near Portland my entire life, and the comment about the bridge entering Maine is so accurate. That bridge was always the “its vacation time now” marker.
I'm so in love with the FL5... maybe by next year all the craziness dies down a bit and I can actually get one... and at somewhat of a reasonable markup. Thanks for the vids!
Im from michigan, i can agree its mostly flat. once you cross the bridge to the U.P its very beautiful and fun to drive. i got my permit last year and went on a trip with my family to Lake Superior, and let me tell you for my first road trip where im driving. IT WAS AWESOME. Love the vids
Really feel you on the need to just jump into your car and GO places, I had pretty much the exact same revelation you explain here so I've been doing my research on good hiking places around the state and then hitting road on the weekends, bring my camera with me and take some pictures, just making sure to enjoy life as much as I can.
@Pas _1118 70mph in southern Maine and 75 north of Old Town. I blow by cops doing 90 plus all the time they don't care. Seriously all please stay out of the left lane except to pass. There's signs that say that all over Maine highways.
Hey Tedward, nice seeing you come to Maine. I have the first FL5 Type R registered in Maine (none were allotted to Maine by the time I got mine registered here after buying out of state and no one from the forums spoke about registering/staying in Maine, so I like to believe that mine is the first lol), but looks like you beat me to Portland! Same color as yours as well haha. Championship White for the win! As always great video and keep posting more Type R content!
the steering wheel oscillation is kind of a feature, not a bug. they purposely have it constantly moving in both directions to force you to keep your hand on the wheel, the swaying is just exacerbated by the wind. you raise a good point that it does not really seem to take wind into account, but that is just because its assumed your hands stay on the wheel. the assist motor is intentionally weak so it doesn't overpower/scare the user and only has about 10-15 degrees of movement before it taps out. a self driving car would just implement stronger motors and the swaying wouldn't be an issue.
People always complain about new cars and such but… man, seeing those windshield wipers with the fluid nozzles integrated? THAT’S technology and god I want it! 😂
I feel the same way about my Focus ST. That thing loves to speed lol. It is actually a pretty quick car up highway speeds. I can easily pass someone and accidentally hit 100mph. Love my ST!
The FL5 is one of the only modern cars I'd consider. I'm a big Honda fan and I think they did great. Just unfortunate that their dealers charge so much for greedy markups. Props to anyone who can get these close to MSRP, what a great car!
finnnallllllly someone gets it. they teach this method of merging when you do your permit courses, and no one does it; creates unnecessary traffic. what this youtuber stated is 100% correct
Driver's licensing education and culture in North America needs to change for real. It's such a difficult topic because the culture here is that driving is a right and not a privilege, which I kinda get since the landmass is too big and public transportations are terrible. BUT, that means there should be an equal amount of emphasis on the education of new drivers and international drivers adjusting to the roads here.
Love the Type R videos! Just bought one about 2 weeks ago (2023 Boost Blue)... I have a serious question for you. Why is that airbag label still hanging off the glove box? That was the first thing I did when I bought it - tear that thing off!
Yes, tedward a lot of people are leaving MA bc of the COL issue.. portland sounds good. You should also do automotive consulting since you're knowledgeable about cars
Great video, well done and lots of useful info. Do you do any undercoating/rust protection to your car? Especially the salt on the road during winter time in the northeast.
can relate with not wanting to put a ton of miles on my car, though not because my SUV was particularly nice, but because it got about 20MPG on the highway if you were LUCKY. My elantra pushes almost 50mpg now and its so nice filling up every 3 weeks and spending $60-$70 instead of every week and a half spending $90
Hi Tedward, thank you for your wonderful content! I wonder whether you’re planning to do a Mazda CX 30 Turbo (specifically) review. Would love to see your impressions of it, including its handling/performance. While it’s not trying to be a hot hatch and rather aims for the premium/luxury feel, it has quite an impressive performance, handling and so forth. And that’s despite having a rear torsion beam suspension and no LSD. It actually kind of rivals some of the hot hatches, to be completely honest and has even higher numbers than base line Macan, which is why I hear people calling it “mini Macan”. Obviously, you can’t compare it to Porsche but it is a car I love a lot. Anyway, sorry for encroaching on your RUclips space.
You should have stop in Portsmouth New Hampshire. Also Kittery the little town as soon as you cross the border from NH to ME. I lived there for the past 6 years.
The Civic has lane keep assist. The idea is to keep you in a lane if you drift a bit. It's not designed to drive the car and keep it perfectly centered. It's an assist to your driving, not a replacement.
Lol yes. This is fully understood. I was demonstrating that it has trouble doing it in wind. Easiest to show by letting it wander with hands off. You wouldn’t be able to see the struggle if i were fighting it.
Around where I am most merge lanes are short, and some are stupidly short (because designers thought clover leafs can fit in mountains w/o making them tiny), and frequently you have to stop because there just isn't room to get over. Look at mm 105 I81 south VA
I still haven't seen an FL5 on the road in NC, probably going to break my neck when I do lol. There's a decent car scene where I am, so no clue where they're hiding.
I just bought a 2004 Volvo S60R M66. Like the type R, my gears are so short I’m out of first gear at 10mph. I feel like it’s comparable to the type R and GR Corolla in terms of power and performance yet undercutting them in price. Good luck finding a manual one though as they are rare. Cheers!
Do you like having the airbag warning sticker there? Haha Glad you're enjoying your Type R. I've had a lot of fun with my FK8 and have no plans to get rid of it anytime soon.
From a Mainer, Portland is a great city! Endless food and coffee shops like you said. Southern Maine is really booming economically and there are constantly new businesses popping up in the area. Be warned though, us Mainers are not the most friendly to people from Mass!
I live in Yarmouth.. for something close by, there's a lot of remarkably quiet side roads in durham, north yarmouth, and New Gloucester. For better stuff I'd head out past Gorham, ME towards NH though.
1:22 they have those style of wheels on GTA Online, called Saisoku I think? There's also various Endo ones there that look similar too. Any small hot-hatch by Honda is automatically cool! ETA: Small cars always suffer more from buffetting at speed - I thought the computer was doing a pretty good job at keeping you in your lane!
Have you ever considered moving to New Hampshire? Nashua and Manchester are both decent cities and NH is way cheaper than Mass is and still have a lot of things to do in them. And as im sure you know, they both have a lot of dealerships and are within in hour of Boston
Honey wake up Tedward uploaded

This guy's voice is so calming, it's almost like a car enthusiast's bedtime story with comedy.
I concur. I find myself watching until the end of all Tedward videos (which I don’t do often on other videos). It does help a bit that I’m also a CW FL5 owner 😂.
Really is lol 😀
i dont get why they dont sell Civic Si's in europe, looks better than many same-class cars.. like 3.-series bmws or a4 for example .
i love these videos where you just get in your car and talk, they improve my day, thank u tedward
Thank you for that. And for watching

Portland is so fun! Spent a day there when visiting my gf in Maine and hope to be up there this summer. Cheers from the UK!
I must say, I envy your restraint. Over the 2000 miles I've driven it so far, I'm averaging 17.12 mpg :(

It's not a Tedward video if he doesn't rant about other drivers not knowing how to merge properly. I feel like I'm watching myself. 😎
Really feel you on the need to just jump into your car and GO places, I had pretty much the exact same revelation you explain here so I've been doing my research on good hiking places around the state and then hitting road on the weekends, bring my camera with me and take some pictures, just making sure to enjoy life as much as I can.
The sound of that type r is therapeutic
the stretch of 95 from Boston to Maine is filled with crazy fast drivers
Please keep the left lane open for us. 😁
@@noname-yb5jt THIS. It's so annoying how someone doesn't follow the flow of traffic and remains on the far left lane 😒
