    And thank you for always saying "respect cyclists" ... as someone who was hit by a car on their bicycle and suffered a TBI as a result, I wish more people would have the same attitude. Just moved to California nearly a year ago for work and this video truly reminded me how incredibly lucky I am to have access to such roads. Oddly enough, I'm searching for a MK7.5 GTI DSG for commuting and taking the time to appreciate these roads on the weekends. Thank you for this gem of a pov video! By far, my favorite video you've done on the channel!

      @@alechall7082 I know your pain. South Florida after 2 decades. I live in NorCal, but my in laws live in Ventura about a little over an hour away from LA, so we always visit often. Even in NorCal, we have fantastic mountain and canyon trails here, These types of CA roads will truly make one appreciate ALL dynamics of a car without obsessing over huge power numbers. For an MK7 GTI, given CA commuter traffic is awful along with having mountain roads to escape to on weekends, even a Stage 1 ecu reflash is overkill for me, personally.

      Why get the dsg? Wouldn’t a manual be more enjoyable?

    • @Pas_Quattro
      @Pas_Quattro Год назад +3

      @@JHonda673 Good question! There's plenty of reasons, and they all revolve around practicality. I commute on the freeway to my office for work and back roughly an hour daily with A LOT of stop and go. Coming from a 350Z 6MT, riding 1-2 gear in bumper to bumper traffic on the highway is DISMAL. Additionally, my in-laws live in SoCal, and my wife and I visit them from NorCal practically every other month, so long road trips where I may want her to drive (she can't drive stick) is more advantageous than not. We're also family planning, so rather not deal with possible mishaps in a manual trans with more moving mechanical parts compared to a DSG. The DSG is also much faster and doesn't suffer from rev hang as much as the manual. Plus, the stock clutch on the manual is pathetically weak and slips just from an ECU reflash alone (and a Sachs, Ringer or ttrs clutch, which is more on the reliable budget end for performance clutch kits are $800+ before labor). In my 20s when I was single, I wouldn't have cared, but approaching my mid 30s with other priorities in life, the 6MT wouldn't be appreciated enough to warrant getting one. It's funny because most forum posts that ask this question get responses from owners that in majority vocalize not regretting the switch from a manual to a DSG.

    I'm envious of California canyons. M-22 is the closest thing we Michiganders have to Angeles Crest, but I'll never be able to push as hard as you are pushing in this video because of the ever-present deer danger. I went out last year and had 7 deer crossing in 30 miles.

    • @justwingingit1
      @justwingingit1 Год назад

      If you drive further up that same stretch into the higher elevations…deer will definitely cross your path on the remaining drive towards Wrightwood. There can be football size rocks around certain turns due to wildlife moving around in the hills or worse…heavy rain/weather/rockslides will deposit rocks the size of the hood of your car across the road. On the bright side…you’re lucky to see a dozen cars on that road driving home after work. You’ll see a lot of manufacturers testing their camouflaged vehicles there as well due to how vacant it usually is…pretty cool! Used to drive that road home everyday for nearly 2 years. Good Times!😁👍

The car community there is arguably one of the largest, the roads are unmatched and for someone like myself who needs to drive to stay sane. One stalled vehicle/wildlife and the rest is history. A lot of vehicles are at the bottom of those canyons. The way Tedward went towards Wrightwood is a lot more vacant…just watch out for large rocks and deer in the higher elevations. Nice drive though…

    What eldritch incantations have you people put on that road that makes slower traffic ACTUALLY PULL OVER to allow faster traffic to pass?
    The best I've ever gotten when I approach traffic that fast -- even without tailgating -- is a mild brake check.

    Looked like fun! How would you have felt if you were driving the Si, instead? Would it have made you happy, as well? And here's a question -- new Si, or a 10-year-old BMW 320i (yes, the 2.0 with 181hp)? From a driving perspective only. Would love to know if you have an opinion.

    As a cyclist and a car enthusiast, I really appreciate that you respect cyclist. We are out there to enjoy the roads same as the drivers, just in a different way. I promise we aren't out there to annoy everyone and get in the way, there's a human on that bike too
