I always thought that Amazing Mirror could be the foundation for a great sequel or two, similar to how Return to Dreamland was the foundation for Triple Deluxe & Planet Robobot.
Believe it or not, Nightmare in Dreamland’s engine was used for both this game and squeak squad. So NDL was the foundation for a sequel or two, this being one of them. However, neither of those games have the multiplayer and non linear aspects.

Never understood why when Kirby was divided into four he didn't lost his power in the slightest. I mean in the end Dark Meta Knight just multiplied Kirby making it increasingly difficult to fight against 4 Kirbys together.
@AntDude The great cave 'Offensive' means assault on, or attack / seige. When kirby goes and loots the cave and kills every thing in the cave, thats where I think the name The great cave offensive got its name.
I still have this game from 2004, the only reason I got it was because my childhood friend at the time got it for me so we could play it together. Multiplayer was freaking awesome
This was my first mainline Kirby game (air ride was the first) and I got it when I was 6. I still haven't 100 percented it yet after a decade (I'm missing a couple random treasure chests in hard-to-reach rooms) but it's still super dear to my heart. This game slaps no matter what anyone says
AntDude is one of my favorite RUclipsrs just because it genuinely seems like we love most of the same series. Kirby, Ace Attorney, Paper Mario. It's cool to have that sense of video game camaraderie with another RUclipsr. I'm looking forward to the Squeak Squad episode though, as I genuinely loved that game, even though I know and get why a lot of people didn't.
Dark Mind has one of the best final boss themes in kirby history Here’s my list: 1. Morpho Knight theme while playing as dark meta knight 2. Dark Mind orb theme 3. King D-Mind theme
It's really cool to have a Metroidvania-style Kirby game. I like Great Cave Offensive, and turning that into a whole game idea is great! I just wish they had just really gone for the genre a little harder. I wish the map was better and you had a little more confidence in the sense of direction... I want this kind of game to be tackled again with Kirby, honestly.
My favorite part of the ending sequence was the picture of the sword in the ground, seen from a low angle, with the sunbeams shining through the clouds as the awesome end credits music reaches the part before it loops. That whole scene was just so fulfilling.
Also, it's possible to get to area 9(Candy Constellation) from area 2(Moonlight Mansion) pretty fast. I actually beat Master Hand and Crazy Hand as the second boss. :b
Wow, Nintendo putting a new installment of one of their popular franchise on their new console? How could such a thing happen I'm shaking and crying rn
I love this game still waiting waiting for a sequel or game similar to it. just imagine a game like kirby andd the amazing mirror on the 3DS or nintendo Switch
theres just something so different about amazing mirror. I feel bad saying it but i like it more than any kirby game that came before or after it. It introduced so many ideas that sadly never returned. I liked that you could call more kirbies to help you. I liked that all the worlds were interconnected and you had to figure out how to get to each world. I liked that it wasnt linear and just "beat the level and move on." I liked that you could play again and again and explore and uncover secrets. I loved the mood and aesthetic of it/ The soundtrack is so different but so good. The environments are so beautiful. This game feels so ethereal as opposed to the other kirby games being more cheery. This game is genuinely a piece of art. Its almost like the megaman x5 of kirby games in the sense that it feels like they went all out with it as if it was meant to be the final 2d kirby game or something. I played nightmare in dreamland and its not the same. Squeak squad isnt the same either tho i like how more challenging the puzzles are. The soundtrack and graphics kinda feel generic for a DS game for the most part though it did bring back remixes of amazing mirrors tracks. Unfortunately no other game can compare to amazing mirror maybe I'm biased because i hold so much nostalgia for amazing mirror. It was one of the first videogames i ever played in my life. And dang is there nothing quite like it. I wish a lot of what it introduced stuck around.
Totally agree I’ve been playing a bunch of diff kirby games the past few months and something about this game is just perfect like I feel like the graphics on this game were just gorgeous and I really don’t love the new 3D look in the other games
I love how, throughout the game, Dark Kirby keeps showing up, and because he is Kirby from the mirror world, you just kind of assume he is evil and attack him whenever you can. My mind was blown at the end when I saw that he was actually a good guy.
Every game franchise has what I call “The Zelda 2 game.” A game in a highly popular franchise that is pretty divisive in the community. And this game is one of them.
To me, this game had potential to be really good, but due to the game being *extremely* open-ended, making it very easy to get lost and/or not know which route you're supposed to take for the next mirror piece, along with the fact that (I think) the other 3 Kirbys don't help you out in gaining said pieces if you're playing alone, it can get kinda frustrating and makes it pretty frustrating to get to the final boss (although as shown at the end, does it really matter? Even in terms of Kirby final bosses goes, Dark Mind was really bland and lame). So overall, it's just decent to me. Damn shame too, since they had a good idea going for it.
I liked the open-ended world. And there are small details that help you get to the route you need to head to. They're just not that obvious at first glance. However I will agree on the boss. It's hard and fun to beat, but its main purpose in the story and the overall ending wasn't that great. But I usually don't look for a good story in a Kirby game.
There's also the level design not being particularly inspired and a bit inconsistent. A lot of the rooms in the game tend to either be kind of bland with not much interesting stuff going on, or the complete opposite with everything in the room trying to kill you from the moment you enter them and bottomless pits galore. I loved this game as a kid, but I came back to it on my 3DS about a year or so ago and found myself disliking it more and more as I played it. I appreciate what it tried to do, and I enjoyed how it implemented the powers within the game, but the rest of it? Meh, it tried.
Dark Mind is a lot more interesting lore-wise than as an actual fight. But if you don't know to break the mirrors in the fight (or purposely don't), it's a lot more challenging.
I played Amazing Mirror with a friend, and it was literally the best co-op game I ever played. You can run around together, or split up. It is amazing.
For the longest time, I thought Amazing Mirror came out before NiDL. It's one of my favorite Kirby games, and I personally feel the character from Amazing Mirror to get into Star Allies should've been Dark Mind. DMK is awesome though!
This is one of my favorite games of all time. Looking for all the secrets was something so special with the fantastic level design. As a kid, I always dreamt of getting to the space stage. One time, after causally running through doors without a goal in mind, I managed to get there! Only to die on my last life....I'm an adult now, and figured out how to get to it almost right away through discovering secret doors in the first main stage, with the smash ability, and getting lucky by going on the right path of many many branching path. The space stage used to always be the last door to find since it felt so hidden. I love this game. Wish it got some kind of sequel.
I remember the original 2 dream land games on the game boy, they were right up there with Pokemon RB and Tetris of having the most playtime from me. Well Pokemon was a huge part of my child hood and that was the only Nintendo thing I knew then when I heard of the video game of Pokemon I wanted a 3ds and get x and y
I loved this game as a kid. Replayed it recently on Wii U; it seemed shorter than I remember as a kid (and I even got 100% completion) but it's still excellent, tons of fun. Metroid and Kirby make for strange bedfellows but the result is a joy to experience.
but its called great cave offensive like in super star. it wasnt based off of this game, it was based off of the sub-story (or whatever its called) in super star

Antdude: "Easily the most unique platformer in the marathon"
Intro: Shows Canvas Curse
Me: Huh?
Canvas Curse isn't really a platformer
This was my first Kirby game ever, and if you knew me back when my Gameboy worked, you'd just see me playing this and nothing else. It was too much fun.
Do a review on one of the best kirby games in the series... KIRBY PLANET ROBOBOT!!!!
God, I would kill for another Kirby like this. Far and away my favorite in the franchise.
Kirby was an amazing part of my childhood. Good topic for a video AntDude. It's making me feel uber old. 😂💦💦💦
I just realized you rearrange all your gamer swag behind you to match the video subject. Hm. That's smart.
How did i mistake your pfp for an ahegao face
Well Pokemon was a huge part of my child hood and that was the only Nintendo thing I knew then when I heard of the video game of Pokemon I wanted a 3ds and get x and y
So how old do you feel now
I loved this game as a kid. Replayed it recently on Wii U; it seemed shorter than I remember as a kid (and I even got 100% completion) but it's still excellent, tons of fun. Metroid and Kirby make for strange bedfellows but the result is a joy to experience.
I wonder if this game is what inspired the great maze in smash bros
that would make sense
but its called great cave offensive like in super star. it wasnt based off of this game, it was based off of the sub-story (or whatever its called) in super star
Well, I guess the great cave offense could also work as the inspiration for the great maze
the stage isnt called the great maze. it is actually called "the great cave offensive"
I was referring to the Great Maze in Subspace in Smash Bros Brawl
7:09 Weird to hear someone refer to the Switch as the NX now.
Ik right
The legends of Zelda thing was fuckin hilarious XD HAHAA
Fantastic video! Amazing Mirror is slowly becoming one of my favorite Kirby games ever since i've started a serious playthrough of it. :D
When people still thought the NX was a thing
the NX was a thing. it was the codename for the switch.
@@poudink5791 I don't think the Switch was announced when this comment was made. Before the Switch, I believed the NX was a false rumor.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
@@cobaliufloof4198 it was announced. the comment was made two years ago, while the switch was announced nearly three years ago. besides, even before then, the NX's existence was official. there was nothing official known about it, but the fact it existed was official.
i can't believe kirby had a metroidvania
"Oh hey its meta knight, oh hey its meta knight" 😓
Wait a minute!!!
Yes, I have *Met a knight.*
I grew up watching the Kirby anime and Sonic X. I didn't know much about them like my older brother did, but I loved watching them.
*HE'S GOT MAXIMUM PINK*
man, your stuff is always super solid. we dont know how but you really nailed the monopoly on Kirby esq. game reviews, but we love them! keep up the good work antdude, we'll be watching!
