My theory as to why Dream Collection completely avoids the Nintendo anniversary curse is that HAL Labs (the devs behind the Kirby games) are a seperate company from Nintendo. They are not forced to follow the same business decisions and thus can put genuine effort in making good anniversary stuff.
@@spaceghostcqc2137 I get what you're trying to say and yeah, Sakurai is based as fuck. However, he hasn't worked on a Kirby game since 2003. In this specific case we sould be praising Shinya Kumazaki, the current director of the Kirby series.
>Why was Mario's celebration half-baked versus Kirby's being one of the best? Simple: Kirby isn't in-house. Kirby is handled by HAL, which isn't Nintendo proper. That, and Nintendo has been slowly ironing out the wrinkles of Mario's character over the years, whereas HAL has embraced fanservice to a massive extent.
Fun Fact: If you registered Kirby's Dream Collection to your Club Nintendo account at the time, Nintendo sent you some Kirby playing cards in the mail.
The reason Kirby's anniversary had so much effort put into it when Mario's didn't, is because Kirby isn't made by Nintendo. Hal Laboratory pretty much develops the entire Kirby series, a company that's not owned by Nintendo. Great video btw
What was it with Nintendo and soundtrack discs being bundled with the Wii. I still remember the (short and underwhelming) Skyward Sword soundtrack that came with that game (which was released for Zelda's 25th anniversary).
Lol I still have the super Mario galaxy sountrack disc that came with my black wii, I didn't even have the game but I sure loved playing the music on long car trips xD
@@SireForseti And I still love those arrangements the most from that zelda anniversary. I knew it was going to be a forever kind of love the moment I heard the Hyrule Field theme from Twilight Princess in the game's Symphonic Movement. Because let's be real here, that's probably the single best overworld theme the series has that isn't the main theme.
That statement on how Kirby’s Dream Collection that not only does it show you what fans love, but that it makes you a fan; truer words couldn’t be said! When I first got the collection; I got it simply because of Kirby’s inclusion in Smash. I wasn’t all too familiar with the little guy and so after buying KDC and Kirby’s Return to Dreamland a week later; I was insanely hooked and became a Kirby fan BECAUSE of Kirby’s Dream Collection. It’s still the pinnacle of any complication of games I’ve seen in a long time
Yes i remember getting home from summer camp in 2014, my mom, my older brother and my sister-in-law wanted to take me out to eat and to get some games. I was at GameStop that night and I saw Kirby's dream collection, now my older brother tries to dissuade me from getting the game by offering me other games like donkey Kong and Zelda, but I made up my mind got the game and I never regretted it since. The dream collection was awesome. I lost the original game but I have all six games on an emulator now.
Wow, it's almost annoying how awesome that Kirby collection is compared to Mario. I remember also being very disappointed buying the 25th Anniversary Super Mario All-Stars. The book was cool for sure, and I was happy to have some new Mario music to add to my SMBX levels at the time. But otherwise, what a letdown. I also tried to kid myself after my bad purchase that maybeeee you could unlock other Mario games by beating them all (like Sonic collections), but since it's clearly just a rom of All-Stars, I never even tried
That last part reminds me of how people were trying to kid themselves into thinking Super Mario Galaxy 2 was unlockable in 3D All-Stars by beating the other games even though there was no mention of it by Nintendo and the download size had no room to include SMG2. It's astonishing how terrible Nintendo is with Mario anniversary collections despite him being their mascot.
Still have my copy of the 25th anniversary of Kirby got it because I am a Kirby fan. HAL pretty much explode in joy and content if you give them an opportunity to go full blown fan service, and they still do this to this very day with Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Kirby Fighters going in WAY harder then they should just because they can.
The 30th anniversary _also_ came with a CD soundtrack... consisting of 73 tracks, on 2 CDs, for over 2 hours of music from Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 (FDS), Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Land, Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES), Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, New Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario 3D Land, New Super Mario Bros. 2, New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Maker -- by far one of the best Super Mario compilations, ever ... if not, one of the greatest _Nintendo_ compilations..... wait, no... probably one of the best _video game_ compilations, _ever_ ... if it included tracks from the RPGs, Mario Kart series, sports games, and other obscure games, like ... Hotel Mario.. it'd probably be _The greatest compilation ... ever_ .... and not just video game music... just _any_ music compilation.
......um..... you're LITERALLY forgetting that in 2005, they released Super Princess Peach, Superstar Strikers and Partners In Time... Super Mario Galaxy 2 came out in 2010, and so did Mario vs Donkey Kong for the DS. In 2015 there was Mario Party Wii, and especially in 2020, Super Mario All-Stars 3D Which was THE BEST anniversary game YET, and that JUST happened two years ago. So there was no good reason for you to forget that one especially. That's literally SEVEN games that prove your statement wrong.
@@silversonome5360 Mine did too for many years, but they decided to remove them due to people not ever returning them iirc. It was around 2015 to 2016 when they were removed I think. I rented Disney Universe, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Kingdom Hearts 1 or 2 (I think), a Disney Princess game, Transformers: Dark of the Moon The Game, The Simpsons Movie Game, and a Kim Possible 3D platformer from my local library and/or a Family Video, they were all on PS2 and Xbox 360. I'm from the Midwestern United States btw.
I got Kirby's Dream Collection when it first came out, as a child I really liked running through the museum and reading everything. We never had an N64 when I was growing up as well, so I played the heck out of Kirby 64.
12:46 - Nintendo didn't work on Kirby's Dream Collection, it's Hal Laboratory who are a known developer for making Kirby, Mother and also other games, just like GameFreak with Pokemon (and sometimes there would be third party devs like Bandai Namco that make games like New Pokemon Snap or Star Fox Assault.) It's a common misconception that people have with Nintendo when they are mostly a publisher as a whole.
There is one advantage the Mario All Stars Wii port has over Kirby's Dream Collection... the Mario collection actually came out in PAL territories. I'm still bitter that I couldn't get the Kirby's Dream Collection; was super looking forward to it and I love the in-game history museum you show off at 11:32. It also came as quite a shock to me when Magolor was suddenly a 'redeemed' character given that part of Kirby's story is covered in Kirby's Dream Collection. Great jokes and coverage by the way. I never knew that the Mario CD included included just a bunch of sound effects. So much of that Mario collection was truly baffling.
Sarcastically speaking, it’s good to know that there was Super Mario 3D All-Stars before it was even a thing aka Super Mario 2D All-Stars getting the SM3DAS treatment! It doesn’t help either that Nintendo, even without her stereotypically feminine voice of the early 21st Century (1999 with Mario Golf 64 - onwards) present didn’t give give Peach more personality than just a (pretend) helpless damsel in distress. Now compare that to Kirby’s Dream Collection, which is a dream come true, which is to be expected from Kirby since it’s standards are even higher than those of Mario (nowadays)!
I wanted the Kirby dream collection when it was released when I was a child. As a Kirby fan it was something I regretted not having for the longest time, until recently I just bought it online for what I’d say is a generous price. Now that I have it, I feel a little bit more whole.
It's such a shame Kirby's Dream Collection was never released in PAL territories though. Europeans and Australians didn't get to participate to Kirby's anniversary.
I think the main discrepency between the Kirby and Mario collections is that HAL is very consistent with quality when it comes to their games. Kirby's already no stranger to looking at things in the past, especially in modern titles. Kirby is a franchise that oozes loves and dedication, and the Dream Collection shows this in absolute spades. Mario's just Mario. Being what is basically the face of Nintendo, just having his name slapped on something is going to make it sell. It's honestly disappointing, especially because I know they can do better. And yet, here we are. It's just that extra bit of effort that could turn a collection from a somewhat convient package to play older games, to something more than that.
Kirby's Dream Collection was actually my first experience with Kirby, other than annoying my sister by spamming taunts in smash melee. An absolutely fantastic first impression; I still boot the game up just to run up and down the museum aisle.
If they had to re release it, they could not have had the version with Super Mario World on it? Well, at least I have the GBA version, but still I would like to struggle with Wii controls for the Original SMW.
Probably because of the Wii Shop Channel having Super Mario World. While the SNES versions of SMB, SMB2 (US), SMB2 (JP), and SMB3 weren’t on the Wii Shop Channel.
@@thesupervideogamenerdmore3171 They could of done that, but they just probably wanted to add 25 dollars more to it to overcharge people with a game from 1993.
The Wii All-Stars collection baffled me when it was released and it baffles me now. The fact that they slapped a ROM on a CD and sold it at full price is mind-boggling.
I honestly remember getting the rerelease of Super Mario All Stars and thinking I was the first one in my town to get it since I got it the day before I left for my vacation to my home country. That was my biggest video game highlight and still is 12 years later.
Awesome video sir. Now we need a collab between you Scott The Woz and Antdude92. Yes it would probably break the internet but sometimes we have to make sacrifices for awesomeness.
Kirby’s Dream Collection was my introduction to Kirby and allowed me to play a lot of his amazing games I later got Kirby Mass Attack on the DS and I’ve been a Kirby fan since
I found the all-stars collection at a flea market for 5€ and the soundtrack CD for another 50 cents, so I can't really complain 😅it really is weird though that they didn't even include SMW in the collection. Nintendo really sold an SNES ROM on a disc for full price with no extra content :D
Kirby's Dream Collection is good overall, but I was always disappointed with how Kirby's Dream Land 2 was represented without its Super Game Boy enhancements, leaving it as just a monochrome Game Boy game. Seems like Nintendo never got around to emulating Super Game Boy enhancements, as the 3DS virtual console suffered the same fate.
I remember the All Stars disk. I was imagining we were getting the original four games redone with the graphical style of the Super Mario Bros. Wii, and was excited because that would mean them actually touching Mario 2 again. But instead, it was just a SNES rom on a disk.
Bruh this is literally the equivalent of someone saying every game on PS2 is worse than PS4 games and their only reason is because PS4's graphics look realistic.
@@coltgun876 no one would have mind (or cared) if they would have made the same game ... plus Super Mario World and Super Mario Kart .. into one package and nice new menus and stuff. Some bio history. Some cool clips. All in one beautiful package. The issue is that they got the ROM from a SNES game .... Put it on a Wii disc ... And sold it for full price. Bro. It's not about the games. That's just lazy. SNES games "themselves" is not the problem. Nintendo had an opportunity to make a nice legit collection .... But they didn't. That's the point bro.
Honestly, I appreciate the fact that the Wii port of Super Mario All-Stars exists. Is it a cheap cop-out? Sure. Is it a MASSIVE waste of unutilized disc space for it to contain an SNES emulator running a single ROM and literally nothing else? Definitely. However, I was in anticipation of Super Mario All-Stars eventually getting released on the Virtual Console. Over the years, it seemed like this (actually pretty fantastic) remake collection was being forgotten in favor of the 8-bit originals seeing more re-releases (also, god knows All-Stars itself could use an update to at least bring it out of the realm of battery back-ups). It may be ridiculously over-priced compared to an average Virtual Console release, but I finally got to have it on an (at the time) modern console, so I can't fully hate it. Also, in retrospect, giving this thing a physical release may've turned out to be a blessing in disguise when you consider that this game can still be easily gotten secondhand. This is especially crucial now that we're living in an era where the Wii Shopping Channel has shut down (and WiiU and 3DS are soon to lose their eShops as well). All-Stars may be available on Switch Online, but that glorified rental service just isn't the same as Virtual Console.
This was a great video! Really unfortunate how nintendo chooses to celebrate mario's major anniversaries, with the only cool one in recent memory being the release of the first Super Mario Maker. Also, I think a big reason as to the difference in quality between the two collections is the developers. Super Mario Allstars was cobbled together inhouse at nintendo. Meanwhile, Kirby's Dream Collection was made (with love) by the people over at HAL. Maybe nintendo didn't have a team to handle doing a full collection, or they were just lazy, but evidently HAL cares a lot for Kirby and went all out for his collection.
Great video, you put actual effort and thought into it and it was funny, you definitively deserve more subs. The old copy of Kirby's Dream Collection I got for Christmas way back in the day is still probably my single most valued possesion. The old games are good, the trial stages are fun, the episodes of the anime are nice to have, I still listen to the soundtrack CD regularly (because I have no standards really) and I practically have the booklet memorized from how much I've read it. What does the Wii Mario All-Starts have in comparison? A decent looking box and that's it. The CD being just a bunch of SFXs will haunt me for eternity.
This video is so well done it kind of give me relax Alex vibes I don't know why but either way this video was still good will edited good commentary and the funny part is RUclips recommended your video to me and you prove a point Mario when he comes to collections always gets the short end to his stick for game collections I mean you got Sonic and Kirby with literally one of the best game collections ever Mario gets for his 25 birthday a re-release of Super Mario All-Stars and then you're like okay maybe Nintendo can make another Mario collection that actually really good and then we get to Super Mario 3D All-Stars and then you realize no Super Mario Galaxy 2 and it's going to go away in 6 months
Just found this channel through this video. I'm surprised to see such a high quality video from a channel this small. Keep going man, one day your channel will blow up
RUclips kept on recommending this video to me, I was a little reluctant to watch it because I didn't think that there would be much to talk about on this topic, but I really enjoyed it. I have now watched all of your videos and subscribed. You seem to put a good amount of effort, research, and thought into each video. You have good jokes. The videos are relatable. Best of all the videos have a fun lighthearted simplicity to them that reminds me of both early RUclips and Nintendo itself. I really hope to see more of these, and the way RUclips is recommending I expect to see your channel grow really soon. Good job.
I remember Super Mario all stars 25th anniversary being a disappointment. They really screwed Mario in that collection. Yet the Kirby collection had more effort put into it.
Excellent footage and critique. Nintendo followed their All Stars "package" with a Zelda Game and Watch, which didn't even use Link's Awakening DX. There's a reason I didn't buy these games... which now looking back was a mistake as they are worth a ton of money...
I remember when that Mario Anniversary was announced and thought, maybe they're waiting for the 30th anniversary to go all out. Boy was I completely wrong 💀
The great thing about modern gaming hardware is that you can play games from 1993 but with added loading times since cartridges didn't have loading times. The most beautiful era of gaming was 2000-2015 when nobody knew how to make 3D graphics look good, we forgot that games used to run at 60fps and started playing at 10fps, and had those amazing loading times too. If you think we got an old-fashioned gaming experience in the 80's and 90's, those 2000's kids got an even more outdated experience.
I feel like the release of the Mario collection is even funnier now seeing them do almost the same exact thing with the recent Mario 3D collection. Sunshine still had the buttons from GameCube lol.
The kirby collection proved one point. The kirby right back at ya! rights went back to nintendo after 4kids lost the license. Unfortunately there still to this day hasn't been a full release on dvd unlike other shows.
For those really interested in the technical details, the mario all-stars iso is literally 18 MB and yes, it is indeed just an SNES rom running in (what i can tell) an isolated VC SNES emulator on a disk. its basically just like paying for a bootleg PS2 homebrew disk LMAO
As a Kirby fan who, even at 12, played all but one of the games present in Dream Collection, the Copy Ability Challenges was actually where I spent the most time. The game kind of undersells that it's not content completely lifted from Kirby's Return to Dream Land: though it's on the same engine, all the challenges are brand new, and there's even a returning ability that wasn't in Return to Dream Land! I really appreciate how HAL went the extra mile to create something unique to the collection for existing fans, who likely would've bought it anyway because of everything *else* it included. I certainly would have. Though I have unfortunately haven't kept track of that art book in the ten years that have passed, I really loved that reading that thing as a kid, and to this day I think there's information in there that still hasn't been documented online (aside from scans, I suppose).
Nintendo is soooo self important when it comes to Mario mainline games, when the spinoffs are all probably more creative and just better in general. Especially the RPG ones
It's deja vu seeing Mario anniversary games being incredibly lacking, the 25th being a re-port and the 35th also being a port, neither including a game key to their legacies- World and Galaxy 2.
My idea for a Mario collection. Super Mario 2D Legacy: Mario's Super Arcade(Games): -Super Mario Bros. -Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels. -Super Mario Bros 2. -Super Mario Bros 3. -Super Mario World. -Super Mario Land. -Super Mario Land 2. -New Super Mario Bros. Features: -8 classic games. -Classic Mode and Modern Mode. Classic mode is the same game with the 4:3 stuff, but modern mode is a remastered version of the classics with no lives, the ability to save anywhere, and a 16:9 aspect ratio. -A rewind feature only in classic mode. -Save states. -Some tweaking on Mario Vs Luigi and Minigames from NSMB to make them optimized for this collection(And hopefully new stuff like 4 player and about a few new stages in Mario Vs Luigi. Mario's Movie Theatre(Videos): -5 episodes from Super Mario Bros Super Show(Examples: The Bird, The Bird, Toad Warrior, Robo Koopa). -5 episodes from Adventures Of Super Mario Bros 3(Examples: Sneaky Giant Lying Ninja Koopas, Crimes R Us, Super Koopa). -5 episodes from Super Mario World(Examples: Fire Sale, Rock TV, Mama Luigi). -Commercials(American and Japanese). -How to draw Mario. -History of Mario. Museum Of Mario(Art Gallery, Music And Information): -Box Art(American and Japanese) -Sprites. -Concept Art. -Character Summaries. -Game Manuals. -Listen to music of the games, as well as some special remastered versions of the music. Mario's Options Lab(Settings): -Crt filters. -Option for DS screen placement in NSMB. -Optional borders based off the characters, console or games. -You can choose to have a rewind feature or not. -Mappable controls. Mario's Mission Mania(Missions): -Various missions based on the Games. -Each mission is categorized in games(Missions based off NSMB are in NSMB genre, and SMB3 missions are in SMB3 genre). -There's a boss rush mission for every game. -Missions include time trial, enemy rush, and more. -Missions can maybe unlock content.
that investing in stocks during a recession joke actually destroyed me oh my god, how do you only have 1.27k subs you are so damn funny great video man
Great video, I'm into collections myself, and I totally agree with you, the mario collection was lazy af, but the Kirby one got me all warm and fuzzy inside. I wish it was ported on Switch
I remember not being able to get ahold of the Mario 25th All Stars “collection” at the time and remember being pretty bummed. I actually wasn’t even sure what games it had weirdly enough, it was Mario and this was a “special release” and before I knew it was hard to get a hold of a new copy quickly. Now I don’t regret it at all. Still have the Kirby Collection in phenomenal condition and played the shit out it on release too.
This is cool to see someone else trying out this “retro gaming comic retrospective”. Truthfully, I’ve been wanting to try my hand at it but I don’t know how to edit. Like at all.
@@BoringBrandon1 That’s kind of you. Whatever the case, I’ll be rooting for you. You certainly have the nose for the right topics to cover. Got my sub :-)
To me the best collection Nintendo has done was either the Zelda Collection on GameCube (which had a SUPER limited release but came with Zelda 1 and 2 with fixed translations, and also included Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and a 30 minute Demo for Wind Waker and some promo videos. At the time if you had this collection it basically made it so that you could now play every Zelda game in existence to that point on the GameCube in some way. ) or Super Mario All-Stars on SNES which at the time was just such an awesome amount of content for one cartridge.
This is the first video I watched on your channel, and I really like it a lot! I agree with all of your points, and your humor was perfect! I wouldn't have agreed with you back in 2010, as I had never played Super Mario All-Stars, having never owned an SNES, so it was very much like a "new collection," but after playing Kirby's Dream Collection, I can never go back to the Mario collections. Personally, I'm really glad that 3D All-Stars came with the soundtracks of the games, as it lets me show them to my friends without needing the Internet, but I would still agree that Nintendo could have done far better! Keep up the great work!
super mario all stars wii is what game companies sell as "preservation", while Kirby's Dream Collection is what preservation actually is. Mega Man Legacy Collection and SNK 40th Anniversary Collection are others that hold up and preserve gaming history while celebrating their series. A game isn't JUST a ROM slapped into a just okay emulator, it's also the art and the magazine articles and the manual and the advertising.
i've never called myself a nintendo fan and didn't grow up with it either...but i am a kirby fan I LOVE KIRBY(I played roms of it lol). Kirby has gotten a lot of love, the amount of merch is redick and spans almost anything you could think of(I would 100% have a kirby room if i could afford it). god i love kirby so much, it's seriously too the only series I like that has been treated well. the 30th anni stuff has been shown off for kirby and i want to cry. I think the only thing that could make it more perfect would be something air ride related, /anything/. That kirby collection is one of the few times I made SURE to get when it was released, I don't often have the funds to get anything new (I didn't get a wii till that red one was released =3= always late to the party and probs why i relied on emu so much) and I don't regret it. I'm pretty sure I had a chuckle at the mario one when it was released, by then I was already educated on old retro games and just...watched as mario fans just continued to get dunked on.
Being 8 years old and your grandpa in the hospital buys you and your cousin both Nintendo dsi XL 25th anniversary editions and the super mario all stars on wii for Christmas before he passed really leaves it on a dude
Man, The Land Before Time 6 is still one of the better gifts I've gotten from a guest from one of my birthday parties. I also gave a friend Lady and The Tramp 2 while also buying it myself, and feeling very proud of giving a good gift lol.
But hopefully there will be another Kirby dream collection coming out this year, the last one was fantastic. This the one thing Kirby does absolutely better than Mario, having an awesome anniversary game.
really love kirby's dream collection as i love dreamland 3,super star and especially kirby 64 as well as the dream challenges & the kirby right back at ya episodes(part of me wishes the final was included.) as it's my favorite nintendo animation along with star fox the battle begins(would love a star fox collection for it's 30th or more shorts.),the pikmin shorts, next level games & especially the kid icarus shorts(hope we see more shorts or a pop up parade figurine line up for uprising's 10th anniversary.:3). while with the 25th anniversary all stars would say it could've been more and had no excuse not using super mario world/maker being a better anniversary title i hate 3d all stars and think it's way worse with how much it could've added like interviews,sketches/artwork,animated shorts or just more to celebrate mario better outside twitter and an awesome theme. as it was a extremely lazy cashgrab, had a stupid deadline only good for memes and kinda showed how outside odyssey/mario party superstars/luigi's mansion 3 how lacking mario's in a few areas of the switch compared to other nintendo collections with it just being sad it's twitter celebrates mario's 35th way better.(& makes me wish we saw collections with the spinoff's,party, kart, rpg's & sports games instead or even a rerelease of the old anime movie with the games actors.:3)
To Nintendo, they know that no matter what, people will buy their stuff. (unless it'spoorly marketed or has better competitionlike the wii u) If you know people will buy, then a company (whose goal is to make money) has no reason to not put the bear minimum of work On the other hand, HAL mostly cares about giving player's a good experience. They're more into growing and keeping their fandom, so their quality control is top-notch. Even their worst games aren't abysmal. Good video, I subbed.
Super Mario All-Stars was fantastic back when it was originally released for the SNES. Remastered compilations for Nintendo consoles weren't really a thing back then and then here's one that had every game in the main Super Mario Bros. series at the time except for Super Mario World (which it didn't really need since that one came with the SNES) with updated graphics, sound and quality of life features like the ability to save. Moreover, it had a game that never got a US release at a time when something like that was hard to come by and it all cost as much as a single new game. I can see why it wouldn't be as exciting in 2010, though.
I feel lied to, I was promised this would be boring. You sir are guilty of false advertising. I can't think of another compilation that tops Kirby's Dream Collection, but the Mega Man Anniversary Collection and X Collection on the GameCube and PS2 both come close (they might have been on X-Box as well?). Both of them had more games that today's respective Mega Man collections, including some of the more obscure titles in the series- Anniversary Collection was the only way for players in the US to try the Power Fighters arcade titles- they're short as you'd expect from arcade games, but definitely interesting. And then X Collection had Battle & Chase as a seventh game, which I also don't think was released stateside- it was a fun take on the Mario Kart-style racer. Honorable mention to the Sonic Mega Collection and Mega Collection+ as well.
What probably happened with the Mario 25th anniversary was that the main controller they probably assumed at least everyone would have is the Wii remote and maybe the nunchuck. So they probably released it with that in mind, to try and make the game playable to as many people as possible. That said that’s terrible mental coping. I seriously wonder who in their right mind said: “hey this guy’s our mascot, why not spend little to no effort and port over a game from the 1990’s. The fans will love us.”
Yo, I HAVE Kirby's Dream Collection! Much like you said, it did make me a big fan of the Kirby series! My brother gifted it to me for my birthday, and although to that point I had only played Super Star, the sheer amount of content and history it had was enough to turn me into a big fan of the pink puffball! And that was even _before_ I found out about the lore and story of the series!
This is right, him as well as other content creators influence me, I'm going to try to insert more of my personality into videos hopefully as time goes on. Also blue is my favorite color!
Mario All-Stars 25th was so ridiculous. They HAD A MARIO ALL-STARS ROM THAT INCLUDED WORLD BUT WERE TOO CHEAP TO INCLUDE IT! Just unbelievable. That's why 3D all-stars didn't disappoint, my expectations were already at rock bottom.
Super Mario All Stars for Mario’s 25th anniversary wasn't the worst collection, that distinction goes to its Nintendo Selects re-release! That version doesn't come with the soundtrack CD, the box, book, not even the game's instruction manual!
My theory as to why Dream Collection completely avoids the Nintendo anniversary curse is that HAL Labs (the devs behind the Kirby games) are a seperate company from Nintendo. They are not forced to follow the same business decisions and thus can put genuine effort in making good anniversary stuff.

Sonic Mega Collection Plus did something similar for me, it made me a Sonic fan, well that and Sonic Generations.
Kirby’s Dream Collection cemented myself as a MASSIVE Kirby fan!!!!
Best Collection since Sonic Mega and Gems Collection.
Sup MrGojira95
How did a collection make you question being a fan?
I was surprised they didn’t do the version with super Mario world … oh wait. They wanted to make more money by selling it separately 😅
Kirby > Mario
Even sonic mania was f@&£king amazing
Wow, it's almost annoying how awesome that Kirby collection is compared to Mario. I remember also being very disappointed buying the 25th Anniversary Super Mario All-Stars. The book was cool for sure, and I was happy to have some new Mario music to add to my SMBX levels at the time. But otherwise, what a letdown.
I also tried to kid myself after my bad purchase that maybeeee you could unlock other Mario games by beating them all (like Sonic collections), but since it's clearly just a rom of All-Stars, I never even tried
I heard Hal Laboratory are really caring to Kirby game unlike Nintendo. Maybe same for Namco too
Aw, SMBX :3
That’s because HAL actually cares
The only good anniversary game Mario had was Super Mario Maker for his 30th anniversary. Kirby flexes on Mario when it comes to anniversaries.
Super Mario Galaxy 2: 💀
I love mario maker 1 I remember getting the game after kindergarten when I was kid for the day or something that same day those were the times
......um..... you're LITERALLY forgetting that in 2005, they released Super Princess Peach, Superstar Strikers and Partners In Time...
@@the-NightStar those games in 2005 were not made for the 20 year anniversary and I still hold Mario maker 1 with nostalgia
I remember renting Kirby's dream collection at the library all the time when I was at my grandmas that timeline still gives me a slap of nostalgic
Your... Your _library_ has games to rent? What kind of magical place do you live in?
@@silversonome5360 the place I live in is pretty small not to small but 2/5 big i don’t want to spread my location around
@@amiibojeremiah809 Fair enough, I am a stranger on the internet after all lol
We never had an N64 when I was growing up as well, so I played the heck out of Kirby 64.
same, I wish my brother ain't lose my USB Stick
12:46 - Nintendo didn't work on Kirby's Dream Collection, it's Hal Laboratory who are a known developer for making Kirby, Mother and also other games, just like GameFreak with Pokemon (and sometimes there would be third party devs like Bandai Namco that make games like New Pokemon Snap or Star Fox Assault.) It's a common misconception that people have with Nintendo when they are mostly a publisher as a whole.
Someone finally pointed out the elephant in the room. HAL gets it right, Nintendidn't.
I wanted this collected SO BADLY when I was a child! This video makes me kinda glad I never got to buy it lol
you dodged a bullet bill with that collection
This is a great response! This really sums up my thoughts on the two games. There is so much potential with Mario's anniversary collections
@@ElliottEntertainmentChannel
Yeah, but you needed Wii Points (or whatever they were called).
Besides, in 2022, that's not exactly an option.
@@ElliottEntertainmentChannel Then make the game $25 instead of $50.
@@thesupervideogamenerdmore3171 They could of done that, but they just probably wanted to add 25 dollars more to it to overcharge people with a game from 1993.
@@WubbaizyShipper1 The Wii isn't mainstream anymore, everybody's moved onto the latest consoles. Why not just homebrew your Wii?
The Wii All-Stars collection baffled me when it was released and it baffles me now. The fact that they slapped a ROM on a CD and sold it at full price is mind-boggling.
it’s good to see that more people are watching your videos keep it up
Thanks for the support man!
Say what you want about 3d All Stars, but it's better than The Wii rerelease of Super Mario All Stars
I have to agree!
@@BoringBrandon1 Creator comment nice
I honestly remember getting the rerelease of Super Mario All Stars and thinking I was the first one in my town to get it since I got it the day before I left for my vacation to my home country. That was my biggest video game highlight and still is 12 years later.
Nintendo: let’s give our fans access to audio files of our iconic sound effects.
Fan: *Uses those audio files for a fan tribute*
Nintendo: Go to jail!
Awesome video sir. Now we need a collab between you Scott The Woz and Antdude92. Yes it would probably break the internet but sometimes we have to make sacrifices for awesomeness.
Haha oh man, I'd hope to see that one day! Thank you for the great words!
That crossover would make smash ultimate less cool
They didn’t use the version with Super Mario World because that game was already available to buy on the Wii Shop Channel for $7.99.
This gives me bug scott the woz vibes especially with the song at the start of the video which is one that Scott has used many times before.
Just imagine if we got an Earthbound trilogy collection
Kirby's dream collection is better because hal owns kirby and they are competent when creating a collection no nintendo involved
Thank you and I agree I think HAL really took their time with this release
Are we just gonna forget that we also got, in my opinion, the best Mario game of all time “Mario Galaxy 2”?
This is true!
This video has a lot of Scott the Woz energy, and I love it!
Just found this channel through this video. I'm surprised to see such a high quality video from a channel this small. Keep going man, one day your channel will blow up
You'd be surprised how many small channels are like that.
Good job.
Thank you very much for this comment! This really means a lot to me, seriously.

I remember Super Mario all stars 25th anniversary being a disappointment. They really screwed Mario in that collection.
Yet the Kirby collection had more effort put into it.
Agreed!
@@BoringBrandon1 Sonic mega collection done just as good if not better than Kirby
I've seen this video on my recommendations for a while. And now that I finally watched it. Damn that was pretty great! Good job with this video man.
You are completely right! I used to have the Kirby Dream Collection and it was great! You have earned my sub
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
It's deja vu seeing Mario anniversary games being incredibly lacking, the 25th being a re-port and the 35th also being a port, neither including a game key to their legacies- World and Galaxy 2.
My idea for a Mario collection. Super Mario 2D Legacy:
Mario's Super Arcade(Games):
-Super Mario Bros.
-Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels.
-Super Mario Bros 2.
-Super Mario Bros 3.
-Super Mario World.
-Super Mario Land.
-Super Mario Land 2.
-New Super Mario Bros.
Features:
-8 classic games.
Mario's Movie Theatre(Videos):
-5 episodes from Super Mario Bros Super Show(Examples: The Bird, The Bird, Toad Warrior, Robo Koopa).
-5 episodes from Adventures Of Super Mario Bros 3(Examples: Sneaky Giant Lying Ninja Koopas, Crimes R Us, Super Koopa).
-5 episodes from Super Mario World(Examples: Fire Sale, Rock TV, Mama Luigi).
-Commercials(American and Japanese).
-How to draw Mario.
-History of Mario.
Museum Of Mario(Art Gallery, Music And Information):
-Box Art(American and Japanese)
-Sprites.
-Concept Art.
-Character Summaries.
-Game Manuals.
-Listen to music of the games, as well as some special remastered versions of the music.
Mario's Options Lab(Settings):
-Crt filters.
-Option for DS screen placement in NSMB.
-Optional borders based off the characters, console or games.
-You can choose to have a rewind feature or not.
-Mappable controls.
Mario's Mission Mania(Missions):
-Various missions based on the Games.
-Each mission is categorized in games(Missions based off NSMB are in NSMB genre, and SMB3 missions are in SMB3 genre).
-There's a boss rush mission for every game.
-Missions include time trial, enemy rush, and more.
-Missions can maybe unlock content.
This is a fantastic idea and well thought out, especially including the TV show
that investing in stocks during a recession joke actually destroyed me oh my god, how do you only have 1.27k subs you are so damn funny

It would be a great port!

The Kirby collection was made by HAL, not Nintendo. That's why it's so good.
Yeah in the collection is so good that it's even better than super Mario 3D All Stars.
At the time if you had this collection it basically made it so that you could now play every Zelda game in existence to that point on the GameCube in some way. ) or Super Mario All-Stars on SNES which at the time was just such an awesome amount of content for one cartridge.
this gives me some really hard Scott the Woz vibes

And that's a shame that we didn't have the Kirby Collection in Europe :/
the only bad thing about kirby's dream collection is that it never released in europe...

Looking at 3D All Stars I don't have any hopes for any future Mario All Star collections.
But hopefully there will be another Kirby dream collection coming out this year, the last one was fantastic. This the one thing Kirby does absolutely better than Mario, having an awesome anniversary game.
The Wii 25th game is insulting they should have included all 2D Mario games to that point, including. The game boy ones.
really love kirby's dream collection as i love dreamland 3,super star and especially kirby 64 as well as the dream challenges & the kirby right back at ya episodes(part of me wishes the final was included.) as it's my favorite nintendo animation along with star fox the battle begins(would love a star fox collection for it's 30th or more shorts.),the pikmin shorts, next level games & especially the kid icarus shorts(hope we see more shorts or a pop up parade figurine line up for uprising's 10th anniversary.:3).
while with the 25th anniversary all stars would say it could've been more and had no excuse not using super mario world/maker being a better anniversary title i hate 3d all stars and think it's way worse with how much it could've added like interviews,sketches/artwork,animated shorts or just more to celebrate mario better outside twitter and an awesome theme.
as it was a extremely lazy cashgrab, had a stupid deadline only good for memes and kinda showed how outside odyssey/mario party superstars/luigi's mansion 3 how lacking mario's in a few areas of the switch compared to other nintendo collections with it just being sad it's twitter celebrates mario's 35th way better.(& makes me wish we saw collections with the spinoff's,party, kart, rpg's & sports games instead or even a rerelease of the old anime movie with the games actors.:3)
I hope they have another dream collection this year. That is at least just as good.
Cool video, glad this popped up in my recommendations
Really hoping that there’s something like a dream collection 2 this year to make the contrast between mario and kirby’s anniversaries even bigger
Nintendo does not make Kirby games they only publish them. HAL Laboratories makes the Kirby games. : )
Awesome video btw
Great observation! In hindsight I should've said HAL. Thank you!
To Nintendo, they know that no matter what, people will buy their stuff. (unless it'spoorly marketed or has better competitionlike the wii u) If you know people will buy, then a company (whose goal is to make money) has no reason to not put the bear minimum of work
On the other hand, HAL mostly cares about giving player's a good experience. They're more into growing and keeping their fandom, so their quality control is top-notch. Even their worst games aren't abysmal.
Good video, I subbed.
The funniest thing about celebrating Mario’s birthday is the fact that we don’t actually know when super Mario bros came our
This is the best imitation brand Scott the woz youtube video I've seen all day
Super Mario All-Stars was fantastic back when it was originally released for the SNES.
Within 25 seconds I could tell your inspiration was probably Scott The Woz with that tone, style of jokes and the blue border
This is right, him as well as other content creators influence me, I'm going to try to insert more of my personality into videos hopefully as time goes on. Also blue is my favorite color!
you have a good sense of humor and present videos well. you're gonna blow up, keep making more videos
Thank you very much!
this was really a good video man! gives me scott the woz vibes. keep uploading your enjoyable fr
Thank you!
The state of your Mario game makes me cry lmfao
I like the Scott the Woz inspiration. I just subbed.
“I’m still disappointed, and this was well over 10 years ago” LMAOO
Genuinely a great video man keep it up really glad you came up on my recommended page
Thank you!
Super Mario All Stars for Mario’s 25th anniversary wasn't the worst collection, that distinction goes to its Nintendo Selects re-release! That version doesn't come with the soundtrack CD, the box, book, not even the game's instruction manual!
The Wii Mario all stars was just a damn rerelease. NOT EVEN THE VERSION WITH MARIO WORLD!
