The mouth movements are supposed to be reminiscent of Jim Henson's Muppets. That's also why a lot of the characters have seams and stitches. They're all meant to look like plush puppets.

Starfy is the only series where underwater sections are actually really fun. Other games should take notes tbh

Not kidding, I couldn't beat him when I was younger. I could get past that first round, but never the second. After a about maybe a year/year and a half later, I finally got through it and my immediate thought was: "Oh God, he's going to do it a third time, isn't he?"

I am offended that AntDude said this game had no challenge. Ten year old me could never beat Mashtooth, and as a grown adult its still pretty damn hard.

not even just the secret boss, the entirety of world 10 (at least, getting the times needed for getting to the secret fight, especially 10-6 with its stupid fast autoscroll and offscreen pits at the bottom of falls)

God, I spent SO many hours on this game back when I was a kid, just trying to find all of the secrets and hidden treasure in each level. Glad to see someone finally acknowledge its existence!
Nintendo should really make a crossover game between Kirby and Starfy.

I remember playing legendary starfy and then a few years later playing smash bros brawl and thinking “why is his name stafy??”
They should release a Starfy Collection, so we can finally have an official translation for 1 through 4!
I still have my copy of Legendary Starfy from when it first came out. Whenever I want to play a chill game, I'll pick it up and widdle away some more at my old save file. If Nintendo made a new one, I'd drop everything and preorder it immediately.

Starfy was pretty much my favorite game as a child. I got for a Christmas for my DSI, and I loved it. Revisiting it, I still love it.

You forgot to talk about the post-game content in the Legendary Starfy. Sure World 9 exists to offer more substance by allowing you to play as Starfy's sister; Starly, but World 10 is where the game completely amps up the difficulty curve. Plus there's a secret boss that has some of the most ridiculous attacks, including a one-hit KO homing attack that he spams during the battle.
I've still never beaten the secret boss (Not gonna spoil it for anyone interested). Gotten him down to one health every time, and then he goes Super Saiyan on me.
To be honest the World 10 stages aren't too bad. It's the fact you need to play them almost perfectly to get under the time limit which makes them absurd.

Are you serious regarding that final boss? 'Cause that just sounds like a cheap difficulty spike.
TOSE is pretty much a studio-for-hire in Japan, need a quick cash grab game for the anime you are making? TOSE would do that for you as long as you are paying them, need some additional manpower for your game? Let TOSE contribute! In fact, there is alot of games out there that were developed by TOSE on behalf of other developers/publishers but they were never credited because that was and still is TOSE’s policy.
The Starfy series however was one of the very few games that TOSE was acknowledged as being developed by them and that’s because the series was not commissioned by other publishers but made by TOSE themselves, Nintendo mearly publishes in behalf for them
You can tell by how damn good the music was, and how charming the characters were that kinda showed they cared
This was the first game I ever completed 100%. Absolute masterpiece, one of the defining games of my childhood

I loved playing this game when I was little! I would play it with my siblings in the multi-player mode. It really did helped us get closer together as siblings.

You forgot to mention the true final boss and how he has:
A. The only attacks that deal more than 1 damage
and
B. The only attack to kill you in one hit that can't be avoided by mashing out of it

@@lightfangx6961 Yes there was! It was at the end of the time attack world. Not only was this boss hard to unlock, but also incredibly difficult to beat. Also it was incredibly shocking finding out who this boss was when you finally are able to go through the boss door.

For me, this game reaches a level of charm that can only be achieved (for me at least) by the Mystery Dungeon games.
It's just one of the best of games of the DS, nothing less or more.

Stary is one of my favorite games of all time. It was the first video game I ever really played. I remember getting it with my DS for Christmas when I was 7. I remember watching the opening cutscene and thinking that was the end of the game, little did I know I was just diving into the game

I remember my first experience with starfy was, and I kid you not, finding an old, unmarked and scratched up ds cartridge in the park. I played the game for hours, but unfortunately never got past the "Rock, Paper, Scissors" boss fight.
