- The state of Alabama is seeking to become the first state to execute an inmate using nitrogen gas, a method that 58-year-old Kenneth Smith’s attorneys argue amounts torture. Smith will be forced to inhale pure nitrogen through a mask until he suffocates. Some critics say the untested method is cruel and inhumane. Michael Copeland, an attorney and criminal justice professor who was part of a team study to see how the nitrogen method would work, joins “CUOMO” to discuss.

Sick sick sick! What a country the US has become.
No lawyers no politicans we need doctors to speak on this preferably medical examiners
"...appear as humane as possible..." -> WHAT A SHIT HE IS TALKING ABOUT?!!!
the problem with this execution is not strictly speaking the method but the fact that the jury had decided to spare him 11 to 1 before the judge went before the judge and decided on the death penalty on his own! it's immoral
I mean… In the absence of a unanimous vote, pretty sure the judge can do that. I don’t know what the specifics of this guys murder case were don’t really care I don’t like the idea of having to in any way contribute to housing the guy for the next 40 years
So what 1 person should not lie to get on a jury and upend the process
@@mrspicollihousing is cheaper than DP cases.
@@DebNKY horseshit. maybe if you were using electricity I don’t know who convinced you that that is unanimously the case but that’s a crock of shit
What's the point in a jury then?
Controversial and Alabama… Skeptical
1 minute in, the guest states Nitrogen is an inert gas. That's not correct, Nitrogen is not an inert gas, those would be, Argon, Krypton, Helium, Xenon, Neon, and Radon.
It is "commonly considered an inert gas" in many applications because it is very nearly inert. And in physiology it is completely inert.
Nitrogen is definitely inert. Bro have you ever asked the AI ChatGPT questions before? If not, have it write a report on nitrogen for you and tell it give you references. It'll blow your mind.
Nitrogen is absolutely biologically inert lol
Nitrogen is inert, you listed noble gasses.
You are all wrong. It's inert under normal temperature and pressure.
I thought Dignitas was Switzerland and not Scandinavia.... mixing up Sweden and Switzerland a common error!
Maybe Cuomo could do some more in depth reporting and try it out himself
they know cause in WWII the Nazis ran all these tests on their prisoners.
No, it's a scuba diving experience that happens all the time. 2:05 I guess pilots too
01:48 changes the ph balance in your butt 😂
😂😂😂😂😂 the news anchor’s face
first time we've seen it, no. Scuba-divers are EXTREMELY nonweldable of Nitrogen induced hypoxia
Nitrogen and oxygen can both be toxic at depths..
This guy is not an engineer. So, how would he know.
Philip Nitschke, the former physician and founder of the group Exit International, created the suicide capsule machine.
He wanted to create ‘peaceful, reliable, drug-free’ method of dying, and one that could be used in the complete control of even those who have very severe illnesses such as locked-in syndrome.
He said: "The person will get into the capsule and lie down. It's very comfortable. They will be asked a number of questions and when they have answered, they may press the button inside the capsule activating the mechanism in their own time.”
"The capsule is sitting on a piece of equipment that will flood the interior with nitrogen, rapidly reducing the oxygen level to 1 percent from 21 percent.
"The person will feel a little disoriented and may feel slightly euphoric before they lose consciousness. The whole thing takes about 30 seconds.
"Death takes place through hypoxia and hypocapnia, oxygen and carbon dioxide deprivation, respectively. There is no panic, no choking feeling."
Shame on US if they go ahead with this brutality
And shame on you for being a robot
Like if they haven't done worse shit in Afghanistan and Iraq
@@elianes5505is that the standard we should be comparing ourselves to?
newsreader face really horrified me...
WHY IS IT APPARENTLY FORGOTTEN THAT KENNY WAS NOT EVEN THE ONE WHO KILLED THE WOMAN???
Oh, who was it? Father Christmas?
Disappearance of Willie Bingham
It works the same way carbon monoxide poisoning does. 🤷
Not exactly...
Let’s go to the video 😂
how did Cuomo ever get back in the news media? I thought he was fau pas
Nitrogen is not reactive so it is exhaled and absent oxygen we go black in a few seconds
True
Thank you
The expert does not seem an expert. A doctor, scientist, veterinarian, biologist would have been more interesting to hear on the topic.
Mario….we go through this process because in America we have a morbid obsession with taking a life. It’s how America was created! And that’s why guns are so prevalent.
Frankly, shooting him in the head would be most humane for him.
