As a commercial diver. it's well known that the human body requiires 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen (the missing 1% is made up of other gases such as hydrogen and carbon dioxide) which is the content of what almost (some with medical conditions on special equipment, this percentage varies) 16% of the oxygen is reserved for your brain and the other 5% for your organs. You can dive all day long in less than 33 feet of salt water but past 33 feet, you're now on a time limit. Boyle's Law explains that you lungs shrink to half thier size and you start taking on nitrogen. 80% nitrogen 20% oxygen. Every 33 feet you decend, you add one percentage of nitrogen and lose 1 percent oxygen. Around 99-110 feet, an effect called nitrogen narcosis sets in often called "First martini" or "narc'd". As you decend further, every 33 feet, the condition worsens until you are no longer getting oxygen. Before this, you go will lose consciousness and soon after without oxygen, death. It's a lengthy explaination but it may help some that don't understand how high doses of nitrogen without oxygen effects the body. Nitrogen hypoxia effectively replaces oxygen with nitrogen.
And don’t most divers indicate that oversaturation of nitrogen induces a blissful euphoric altered State of consciousness? I know this is true in the Dental world
@@PreppingWithSarge Yes, that's very true. During my deep water training, we had to experience "first martini" level and it was a very good relaxed feeling. Pair that with weightlessness of the water and there is nothing else like it on earth. However dentists used (but no longer widely) a different mixure of nitrous oxide to oxygen than the 78% and 21%. 70% and 30% respectfully delivery to make certain that the brain was getting more O2 than it needed, thus helping with pain management. The higher amount of oxygen gives a boost to your production underwater but be prepared to "crash" when it wears off. Nitrox Divers may agree with me as the percentage is 60% to 40% roughly. The real problem is when the O2 Level drops 5% or greater as your body starts to asphyxiate, it reacts by going into a panic mode. Maybe there is a way to do this proceedure in a more humane way? Dunno.
