People say suicide is selfish, but in reality, it's forcing them to stay alive that's selfish. You're taking away someone's free will for your own reasons.
Wanting to die is very rarely a decision made by someone of sound mind. Those consumed by depression won't always be. Even depression eventually goes away. Does it come back? Hell yes, especially if you're living an unhealthy life. But if you end your life... its over. You'd die and never know how loved and valued you were because your mind was clouded up until your death. I speak from experience... someone who hated themselves for over a decade until finally being able to see the truth.

There are millions who can't (I'm one of them), and for those, I do think there should be an alternative, which in this case means ending it. I do encourage people to try every possible avenue before doing it, but if they're still not happy afterwards, why make them suffer any longer?

I'm in it with your thoughts. What i think is that Nordic people have a much higher understanding , about death . It's amazing it should be legal for chronic depression too. I also read that is also legal for the mentally ill 🤒
I think it's great. Some people suffer from uncurable diseases that cause unbearable pain. The device allows a person in that situation to end their suffering and find a quick and humane death. Forcing people to be alive against their will is just crazy.

I'm 21 years old and I'm suffering from depression, anxiety and instant anger issues .I just want to die . My parents, freinds, siblings no one is trying to understand my situation right now . Nobody chose to be born in this cruel world. Why is suicide considered a sin by God if he himself lets people live through suffering? It's my party and I'll die if I want to..Who said I have to suffer in my later years..I've experienced a euthanasia of our old family pet that was suffering..He had broken his hip and was dragging his body in extreme pain crying the whole day..The vet came over to give the first injection to put him to sleep within 30 seconds then administered the second dosage to the heart ending his suffering..All of this under 1 minute..It was beautiful..Even the vet said that will be his exit plan if needed one day..We are definitely not here to suffer...
This is what happens with people without religion. Life losses meaning and suddenly no one has the will to continue. Even if I was an atheist I would argue against this as it goes against evolution. We are here to be tested. Life is nothing but suffering with moments of joy as this is only meant to be a test, not our reward. Now you can choose to hand in your test with only half of it done, pull up a middle finger and see where it gets you, but I can guarantee you that this will not end well. Inert gas asphyxiation is also completely painless, you just pass out and that's it; people who have been involved in accidents where their surrounding atmosphere was replaced with nitrogen due to e.g. faulty pipes and such say that they simply lost consciousness and that the immediate next thing they could remember was waking up. Everyone should have the right to kill themselves through inert gas asphyxiation.

I personally know a married couple who did it together, in Switzerland. He was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and she didn’t want to live without him.

Wish this was available in the United States. We have some of the world's highest suicide rates. I think everyone has their own reasons for wanting to live, and their own reasons for wanting to die, and we shouldn't be in the way of either. It's my party and I'll die if I want to..Who said I have to suffer in my later years..I've experienced a euthanasia of our old family pet that was suffering..He had broken his hip and was dragging his body in extreme pain crying the whole day..The vet came over to give the first injection to put him to sleep within 30 seconds then administered the second dosage to the heart ending his suffering..All of this under 1 minute..It was beautiful..Even the vet said that will be his exit plan if needed one day..We are definitely not here to suffer...

As a veterinary professional I ask myself this every single euthanasia. It’s humane. Why aren’t humans given this same dignity to end suffering?
Because humans arent animals. Also there is no limit to acceptable animal suffering. You just arent used to actually seeing the suffering we inflict on animals in the name of human comfort.

@@andyc9344 So you're honestly going to tell me the animals we eat while they're alive and screaming, the ones we boil while they are alive and screaming, and the ones we regularly infect with the worst and most painful diseases we have, are being treated better then humans? Never mind the poor dog breeds that we've made that regularly have their eyes fall out if they sneeze too hard. I mean yeah, getting old sucks. But I do think refusing to assit in suicide is much more humane then regularly grafting the body parts of other animals onto someone (like we do with rats) against their will. Are we including the factory farm animals in this like the geese we force feed grain to till their livers fail? On purpose?

Are you honestly going to tell me that those animals are treated worse than me when my disability is debilitating, incurable, the subject of mockery by the majority of the public including many of those most others would otherwise think good people and nobody has the honesty or decency to avert the otherwise inevitable destiny before me for the rest of my life, which makes eternities of seconds? Someone for whom the only hopes of even contentment are oblivion and the impossible?

It's scary that anyone is against this, to be against this means you yourself feel uncomfortable or have oposing views at what someone else wants to do with thier life.

@@thomassmith7884 this machine is intended for assisted dying meaning a person suffering from a terminal illness if a child does want to make that decision that wouldn't be able to as the machine is intended for people above 50 years of age who are of sound mind or seriously ill

Wish this was available in the United States. We have some of the world's highest suicide rates. I think everyone has their own reasons for wanting to live, and their own reasons for wanting to die, and we shouldn't be in the way of either. I do believe most people in the states wish to die because we have extremely expensive healthcare that most (myself included) cannot afford. Its easier to die than be in pain and discomfort 24/7

I didn't ask or choose to be forced into this world. I believe it should be my choice to not want to be here anymore without shame or guilt by doing it secretively but I don't think I could actually go through with it. This device makes it an easy decision.

I've gone through the comments. It's factual to say that most people here want to end their lives. Me too. No one asked to be born and I think no one should question our decision to end this suffering. I've been in pain for as long as I can remember 😪

Why is death so stigmatized when living can be torture to some? Those who are committed to ending it all will find a way and at least this allows them a painless way to escape what the world has become. If you're truly against suicide find the root cause, rising cost of living, societal pressures, incurable diseases, stigma on mental illnesses and fix these! No one wants to die if things are good

The world could give a damn about the mental health of men. At least Switzerland is giving us a peaceful way out for a final way out if nothing else can help us. As someone who plans my death daily I am all for this machine. I am not speaking up for pity or for help. I am content with how long I want to live as of this moment.
