- This segment from the December 16, 1983, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Robyn Ekings’ in-depth report on the execution of convicted murderer Robert Wayne Williams at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, the first execution in Louisiana since 1961. This report includes: a press conference with Angola Warden Ross Maggio following the execution; an interview with Robert Wayne Williams; Baton Rouge District Attorney Ossie Brown and Charles Kelly, the victim’s son, speaking at Williams’ hearing before the Louisiana Board of Pardons; a prayer vigil by opponents of the death penalty at the Governor’s Mansion in Baton Rouge on the night of the execution, including interviews with Tom Dybdahl of Citizens Against the Death Penalty and Susannah Sirken of Amnesty International; Rose Williams, the mother of Robert Wayne Williams, speaking at a prayer vigil outside of Angola on the night of the execution; a press conference with Mary Schlangenstein, a reporter and witness to the execution, reading a statement made by Williams before his death; a press conference with Dan Even and John Hill, reporters and witnesses, recounting the execution of Williams; and an interview with Governor Dave Treen on his decision not to stay the execution. Host: Ken Johnson
Williams was found guilty April 10, 1979, and executed December 16, 1983. That’s pretty fast, for a capital case to go from being found guilty to executed. Nowadays, a convicted person can expect 20-25 years on death row.
Well, he was black sooooo
@Kim Verhaaff of course, no doubt it's a racial thing! You should be ashamed of yourself!!!
@@KimVerhaaff well, he shotgunned a security guard while conducting a robbery sooooo
@@Eggnoodlesandketchup792 Isn't shotgunned when you call the front seat? 😉😂😂 but if you just mean shot with a shotgun. That does fully explain the death penalty. The speed in which they did it, not so much
@@joeborrajo186 Ashamed of what?
Her son murders someone and she feel like her family has been used and abused. Wow
These shysters will talk about the legal intricacies all day but never say what the killer actually did. Interesting look at social justice in the nineteen eighties.
❤All I can say is don't do the crime if you can't do the time, Remember not everybody is for the Death Penalty it won't undo the damage that has already been done and it won't bring back the people Robert Wayne Williams and people like him killed
If I had a choice of lethal injection or the chair I would definitely choose the chair.
I’d rather have lethal injection
Well yeah it's a deterrent, they don't kill again. If ya don't want to wind up on death row then don't commit the crime. Would love to see these anti death penalty with signs for Genesis 9 . 5
I think you mean Genesis chapter 9 verse 6 but close enough
💯💯💯💯
why do these people also speak about the Old Testament....if they were true believers they would also know about the New Testament.....
Is it a deterrent for future offenders?
Don't be blind.
RIP to him and the victim 😪 there's no winner in this people
No winner in life
He was framed. He was an innocent man.
IT SEEMED TO ME LIKE THE ELECTROCUTION WAS PRETTY INSTANT, COMPARED TO LETHAL INJECTION.
I THINK YOU'RE DEAD WHEN THE FIRST JOLT HITS YOU. SEEMED THAT WAY IN THE VIDEO.
Your caps lock is on.
BRING IN THE NEXT, WHILE THE GURNEY IS WARM
💯💯💯💯
Sounds that you all so a person full of hate, ya bloodthirsty dude! Don't ya feel ashamed yourself?
This is how fast death row should go.
Sure if there is irrefutable evidence.
But that’s not the case 300 have been exonerated in the last 50 years
That’s not counting the guys out down that we don’t know about.
JESSE JACKSON GOT KICKED OUT OF THE RED CROSS FOR HIS WISECRACKS THAT WERE VERY MEAN
If Dexter Morgan were real, we wouldn’t need the death penalty
i have to say, if i had a full choice of methods, i'd want to be put to the firing squad, or the newer nitrogen poisoning.
I don't know about Russia, but South Africa certainly does not have a death penalty!
Both did back then

I'm sorry but I feel a life for a life noone has the right to take another's life they can't get that back. If someone takes another's life, that person shouldn't be allowed to breathe and take up space in this planet and have three hots and a cot. How fair is it to the victim or victims they murdered and the families? What about the people he hurt? the court system don't think about the hurting families whose loved ones was taken from them at the hands of some deranged creep who had no value for human life. . it seems like that the courts have been more for the criminals. However in this one I'm surprised and at the same time glad to see that they did denied Robert Wayne Williams commute to life in prison.I feel that they made the right decision to execute him. I don't feel sorry for people like that Anyone that commits terrible crimes like this they deserve what they get I do not feel sorry for people like that, got to pay for your crimes that's how I look at it. You take another's life so should yours be taken, and it's Biblical and I don't know how people can do bad things and think they gotten away with it. Nothing in this life goes unpunished even in the he next life if they don't pay in this one because God is a just God.
Is that Mike Pence??
No, Dave Treen, the governor.
Diggin the little instrumental jam before that lady started talking
One Date, One Appeal. The End.
😭🌹🙏
I love the Electric Chair.
Yeah it's pretty cool. I think it's a good way to be executed too. I don't think there would be any pain. I definitely wouldn't want to sit in the gas chamber though. I bet you that is the worst and most painful way
I worry about people who say those things
@@KimVerhaaff It only hertz for a moment....
@@wardenphil Haaaaa love that Phil 😅
Would You ' Ride the Lightning ' ??

You like the Death Penalty? Well I don't I use to it's cruel and unusual punishment
4 years was usually fast. You've got to wonder if race had something to do with it. I use to believe in the death penalty, however I have seen to many situations where those prosecuting these cases think that if they don't get Capitol Punishment then they didn't win. It shouldn't be a case of win or lose. It should be a case of justice. My State doesn't have the death penalty, and the death penalty actually costs the taxpayers more money in most cases than it does to lock someone up for the rest of their life.
How does it cost more
@@JustBree716cause they have to be isolated and keeping a wing for just them is expensive especially when we let them play the courts for 30 years wasting time and money
It costs WAY more to execute
Good ole LOOZYANA…
Of course the death ☠️ penalty is not a deterrent
It is a deterrent. Not one person who has been executed has ever come back and committed any crimes after that. It's a deterrents.
It certainly is a deterrent for me!!!! IJS
Tell us how life in prison is a deterrent?
But revenge is sweet
@@lsad705 Very near sighted.
Rip
They don't deserve too!!!
This is such a Outrage
😂
To execute a healthy person who has a whole lot of living left on this earth; is not only tragic but inhumane. As a citizen of this country. I absolutely am against the death penalty & I would like to see executions of a human being in the USA be abolished.
I disagree. For the worst killers, the fact that they have a lot of life left on this earth is an injustice. They don't deserve to live the rest of their life after what they have taken from others. Did you look up what Williams did? His crimes were utterly barbaric.
I am a socialist myself but if you murder somebody you have got expect to be murdered, people need revenge, that’s a fact if he killed one of my children I could not live while he was still breathing.
Hahaha. Go away.
Keep that same energy if God forbid something horrendous happens to your family by the hands of an devil
Agree. Murdering someone to show murdering is wrong. That's just wrong
