It's incredible how much the bass adds to the overall tone. It sounds like 10x more awesome with the bass tagging along, not to say the guitar alone isn't awesome... just that it's not super heavy without the bass.
Well yeah, that is how mixing works. You don't want the guitar to have too much bass, because then, it just simply becomes a low end mush of a sound. You want to have the bass more between 4 and 6, if it is too high, it just competes with the sound of the bass, and if it is too low, when the guitar is playing on its own, it sounds super thin and just sound like crap, because it loses all of its body. Just another example of how you need to balance your tone to get the right sound for what you are looking for.
alez wright- what if the bass is on 8 and the mids are dimed, i have the low set to 9 oclock and mids dimed too along withe te mid freq on my mxr fullbore metal, how would that sound?
Joseph Madden Depends on what amplifier you own, if you are using a 15w solid state, that would be fine. But, if you have a 50+ watt tube amp, it will become wayyyy too bassy, especially in a live setting. I would also recommend lowering the mid frequency to about up and down, and maybe lower the midrange, simply to add some more cutting girth to the amp without muddying the sh!t out of it.
i use a randall rg1503 150w solid state head, it dosent siund muddy at all, it sounds really tight and chunky, i dont like the sound of the pedal with the frequency nob anywhere else but dimed same with the mid nob, also turning the bass and mids down just makes it sound scratchy and thin
This is the most badass and unforgiving amp in existence haha, so extremely responsive and sharp, that notes literally explode off the speakers before you hit a string
Ola let me just say , I'm glad you grew a pair and started sharing your hilarious side with the RUclips community... these old videos you might aswell be an unknown with all the talking you do. Gratz on the success, hope you keep making kick ass videos.
THE best metal demo of the V I have ever heard. I'm telling you these other metal amps might slay as far as low end punch, but the V just kills for articulate, mid-punchy, rhythm and solos. Really hard for find a metal amp that does rhythm AND solos well. And Metal is just the tip of the iceberg with the V. I switched to EL34's and love the classic and heavy rock sounds I'm getting,
This got to be in the top 3 sickest high gains sounds i've ever heard! It isn't hard to make an argument and put it up there on the throne of them all either...
As quoted from the Mark V manual from mesa boogie, 'This section determines the overall output level (playing volume) of the MARK V ONLY when the Rear Panel EFX LOOP is engaged (switch up - LOOP ACTIVE position) and the Effects Loop is in the signal path.' So FX loop is disengaged and he doesn't need the solo boost as it's a recording.
This is the exact 47th time (counting) I watch this video. The tune is the most perfect tune I've ever heard in my life, it's your best tune (in my opinion), and because of this brutal song. Fuck yeah, Ola!
This is the best guitar tone I have ever heard. This is the tone that I've been searching for my entire life. PLEEEEEASE tell me that you'd consider making an AxeFx2 tone match setting for it. Its fucking AMAZING.
You can get pretty close with the AxeFx2 Mark iv model and ML Sound Labs' Misha Mix 08 IR (part of their cab pack 13 ML USA). I can send you a patch if you still have your axefx.
Might I add that this song is (in my opinion) a pure riffological awesomeness !!!! I like the feel of Machinehead in your songs from now and then. Needless to say... You are one of my favorite *music making people* lately. \m/
Alex Wright I always felt that I did something wrong because my A string always did that. Then one of my metal buddies says he goes through low E strings like tissues.
@Dekzan - IMO the Mark IV and V have way more saturation than the rectos. The recto's have a very distinct tone though, little harsher than the Marks. Again IMO, I don't like a recto without a boost. The marks play better without any boost.
I play them and the marshall's every time but I still feel like the spidervalve mkII can compete with them. It's all in the EQ and how well you place your mic. Ola is a genius at mixing so he gets the sound he wants every time
I just falling in love... When i brought the album "The Mask of Sanity" from "Scarpoint", I just can't stop listening that shit! And then I brought the album "Rejects" from "Feared" and drive me crazy... I just want another disk from Ola or i will die!! One of the best guitarrists what i ever hear!! Respect Ola! :D
Dave is currently using a Marshall JVM410h. They sound great, many agree that the JVM series is the best thing Marshall came out with in many years. And they can get to 80's thrash metal territory, back when about everyone was using Marshall JCM800's. I've played one at 2 gigs and liked it a lot, classic sound. If you really want to get a mesa, my personnal choice would be a rectifier. I've owned a dual rectifier and and tried a mark iv and for me there was no hesitation. Big Megadeth fan btw.
Ola, thanks for breaking down the signal chain on the guitar and on recording!!! My signal chain isa wah straight to amp on the front and a silencer in the effects loop.
THIS.IS.AWESOME.BEST.VIDEO. IVE.SEEN.FOR.AN.AMP.DEMO only because im into this heavy shit, more than hearing a demo on all the clean channels. Forget that shit. Save those videos for the weekend warriors. Thanks
The best video ever from Ola Englund(o)?! Love this song, warbound! Ola you're a blessed guy, if you believe in that stuff hahahaha \m/ Just keep doing this metal thing that makes us more alive!
Funny, because this sounds nothing like a Mark V. Don't get me wrong, I love Ola's playing and style, but he uses too much post EQ and that messes with the tone of the amp. I own a Mark IV and V and trust me, this isn't how it sounds.
Juan José Fonseca Godoy Depending on pickups and how he sets the 5 band graphic, and the cabinet, a Mark V is capable of doing this sound without any post eq. The only post eq I've seen him use is a slight roll-off in the lows and a tiny notch at a certain point in the highs, but I donn't think he even used post-eq on this one.
Adam Rainstopper A Mark can't sound like that, truste me. And he did use post EQ, he even says it on the video. The "bad" thing about Ola is that he makes sound the same every single amp, except the Mk IIC+ because he didn't use post EQ on that demo.

Juan José Fonseca Godoy The only thing I am really hearing with the post EQ is some compression. Also, it has the bass playing right along with it, which gives that thicker, meatier sound without losing the clarity you get by turning up the bass.
Love this tone! I have a Mark V and can almost get a similar tone, but I always seem to need a boost out front to tighten the lower mids. I think those SD distortions might be your secret weapon.
This video is done perfectly Ola ! Makes things much easier to understand from a recording point of view. Close up of amp/pedal/DAW settings is very nice and hope do it more often. BTW: I already have the Feared Signature Album but would like to support you more if you could make a Signature package with the new Scarpoint album that has the drum tracks so that I can jam along.
Perfect example of this "nice high-gain tone, but power amp response isn't fast enough" phenomenon, I just finished a song. Excuse the extremely rough recording, I had a bunch of reparative oral surgery in October, and this is the first time I was able to record anything (couldn't use my mouth) in 9 months+, so I was in a hurry to uploaded... I recorded the guitars raw, no post-anything. Single-hum tele, Peavey Classic 30, clean boosted by the Duncan Twin Tube. It's my "unsubscribed trailer".
You got really technical with your multi-angle images and isolation of the diffrent instruments Ola, It's really good how you seperated the sounds - I'm sure we'll see that again from you in your next videos. ;) I wish I could also play with these super amplifiers you review all the time bro' Looks like so much fun.
most versatile, best sounding amp in the world IMHO. Some say it's more flat than the rectifier, I would put it this way: its sound is fuller. Shame I don't even have money to buy a $250 amp, if I had money I would go all the way for a Mark V and a Rect 4x12.
awesome tone man. i watch your videos for a long time. since the guy in the living room with an imac, an engl and an ESP :P what i like about you, except that you help people on youtube etc...is that you are an awesome guy man. i mean, there are a lot of pro-guitarists and guys like that but few of them are cool guys. kind and ready to answer every question! keep it up!
He's bypassed the effects loop, which also bypasses the master volume control on this particular amp. The channel volume control is up and most likely QUITE loud.
that is a great point....a mark 5 will last for decades...it may need some repairs and of course some tubes , but being a more mechanical device it will be repairable...how long will the window be on axe fx2 repair??...10 years?Probably more like 5-7, then the parts will be obsolete.Fractal only has a year warranty compared to i think 5 for mesa..having said that, I wish i could get a mark5 and an axe2, but must pick only one
9 years later and still probably the best sounding tone of all imo.
Absolutely!the sound and tone its a dreem of ever metal guitarist
@Black Orbit i think just reef..i dont know the name of song
I fucking agree
@@matiasx1996 o fucking k
Ola suonds better with Randall Satan .. it's angrier and more aggressive
11 years later and still probably the best sounding tone of all time not gonna lie

Best tone you ever had Ola! Just my opinion. Cheers!!!
i think it is one of his best tones also ...im thinking about getting the Mark V
Did you get it? If so how u like?
I just got the mark v 90 with 4x12 v30 Love it .. world class
the tones in ola englunds mark v play thru video are very accurate .
This Amp is THE BEAST
This is the most badass and unforgiving amp in existence haha, so extremely responsive and sharp, that notes literally explode off the speakers before you hit a string
Тахионная бомба 💥
Ola let me just say , I'm glad you grew a pair and started sharing your hilarious side with the RUclips community... these old videos you might aswell be an unknown with all the talking you do. Gratz on the success, hope you keep making kick ass videos.
you're right!
omgosh... this is the heaviest tone i've ever heard in my life. sick video Ola, i think i just found my dream tone
hey, how's ur life going?
You need to listen to more heavy metal LOL
THE best metal demo of the V I have ever heard. I'm telling you these other metal amps might slay as far as low end punch, but the V just kills for articulate, mid-punchy, rhythm and solos. Bass just turns the awesomeness of the sound into perfection!
Yeah Ola you really know how to make a brutal sound!
The Mark series never disappoints. I think the V is the best one yet but the 2c petrucci one is calling my name too.
nice demo Ola, you have inspired me to buy a Mesa Mark V...picking it up this evening... thanks, as always , great demos and playing! cheers!
back to the old days, nice to see you again with a mesa
easily one of my best artist out there. perfect.
No that was just as an example to hear what a single track sounds like. In the mix I'm using one left and one right guitar. Nothing else.
As quoted from the Mark V manual from mesa boogie,

This is the best Ola tone ever!
This is one of my favorite tones of yours. It's just muscular sounding. Powerful but not overwhelmingly gainy.
Very cool amp demo, I like how you isolated the guitar at one point just so we could hear that outside of the rest of the mix.
Reposting:
No that was just as an example to hear what a single track sounds like. In the mix I'm using one left and one right guitar. Nothing else.
Badass demo guys! Thanks for making the only sound demo videos that actually show you everything that's going on.
one of the best sounding amps on the market...
That tone...omg. Just one word to describe it. BABYCRUSHING.
This is the best guitar tone I have ever heard. This is the tone that I've been searching for my entire life. PLEEEEEASE tell me that you'd consider making an AxeFx2 tone match setting for it. Its fucking AMAZING.

I like the feel of Machinehead in your songs from now and then.
Needless to say... You are one of my favorite *music making people* lately.
\m/
Amazing sound - IMO the best in it's segment. It's clear, brutal and waaaarm!
This is so awesome! Possibly your best gear testing video ever!
Great song Ola. This is my one of my favorite amps.
Young Ola is the quiet Ola. That is a killer tone my man💕💕💕💕
Pro editing and demonstration, you are one of a kind Ola!
always the best sound here. keep on doing this fantastic work dude!
I seriously vote for this. Go, Ola!!
everything about this is incredible.
0:07. I hate when that happens.
Alex Wright Its always the fucking string I don't have an extra. (E,A,D)
Mark iic plus 44 Yep, same here. I have soooo many extra g and b strings, it is ridiculous.
Alex Wright It breaks for you at the bridge right?
Mark iic plus 44 Yep. Every damn time.
Alex Wright I always felt that I did something wrong because my A string always did that. Then one of my metal buddies says he goes through low E strings like tissues.
You make every amp you demo sound great.
He gets a great bass guitar tone; it makes such a big a difference
fucking brutal. blows me away how even simple riffs can sound amazing coming from you.... let alone the advanced ones.
By far your best tone!
@Dekzan - IMO the Mark IV and V have way more saturation than the rectos. The recto's have a very distinct tone though, little harsher than the Marks. Again IMO, I don't like a recto without a boost. The marks play better without any boost.
i love the mark v's i only got to play the combos at a local music store but it was amazing every time i used it
I play them and the marshall's every time but I still feel like the spidervalve mkII can compete with them. It's all in the EQ and how well you place your mic. Ola is a genius at mixing so he gets the sound he wants every time
That is amazing, my settings are damn near where his are both on the channel and in the eq section. Great amp!
your best tone yet. love it! greetings from italy!
I think I can say you are one of the few ones that make me dream. Thanx.
Im a boogie guy but I really thought that sounded fantastic. My favourite tone so far. Great video too
Amazing demo of the head! This song sounds fabulous!
How is it possible to capture that much awesome with just a SM57!?

only because im into this heavy shit, more than hearing a demo on all the clean channels. Forget that shit. Save those videos for the weekend warriors.
Thanks
am i the only one who thinks this version was much better than the orginal "warbound"?
Jeroen Reyns Absolutely dude, the entire Furor Incarnatus just sounds a little weird to me, probably the lack the of low-end saturation I guess
the drum intro was almost exactly the one in war from meshuggah, except not that crazy ahahah great videos ola, thx for posting
Awesome, you opened my third eye as a thrasher with this performance and sound :)
Signal chain:
Strictly 7 Guitars - Mesa Mark V - Mesa 4x12 - SM57 Read the description more often :p
I love all your videos, but my favorite tones of yours have always been when you play Mark amps. Just solid, crunchy, dry destruction.
Love your breaks and solos man adds some beauty to the brutality .
def. my favorite mesa of all time. Still saving for one!
The best video ever from Ola Englund(o)?! Love this song, warbound! Ola you're a blessed guy, if you believe in that stuff hahahaha \m/
Just keep doing this metal thing that makes us more alive!
that solo man thrives with feeling love it
ola...man you friggin rock... I love the interlude riff with the pinch harmonics!
My god.... 1:20 THAT is what I hear in my head when I think of a Mark V!!!

Your best video since Savage times.
Great playing as always - sounds crushing, Mark V has a tremendous in your face aggressive tone, takes a little more effort to dial in but worth it.
This sound this phenomenal Ola!!! I can't wait to plug in my Mark V head and rectifier cab! The exact set up in this vid!!!!!!!
Man, that's a nice sounding solo. I like that pedal.
This video is done perfectly Ola ! Makes things much easier to understand from a recording point of view. Close up of amp/pedal/DAW settings is very nice and hope do it more often.

better. the necks on the s7g guitars are out of this world
Best sound ever Ola!

Shame I don't even have money to buy a $250 amp, if I had money I would go all the way for a Mark V and a Rect 4x12.
OMG THAT GUITAR IS BEAUTIFUL!
I dont listen to you for the tone but for the tunes
Man your guitar sound is the best i hear !!!
Ola, this is fantastic!
That was beautiful, man. Thanks for making this vid.
0:36 Maaaan, sounds so gooood!
that greenhouse delay pedal sounds amazing!!
Absolutely amazing amp. Fat, yet tight at the same time. Too bad they are so god damn expensive.
+NotSaint91 Lol you don't get to own an "amazing amp" without wasting a lot of bucks. That's the universal rule
+Randall Halo you don't waste money on them, they're excellent investments for serious musicians.
Jimmy Danger Gonzalez Sorry that was some poor choice of words there. I meant "spending"
awesome tone man. i watch your videos for a long time. since the guy in the living room with an imac, an engl and an ESP :P
what i like about you, except that you help people on youtube etc...is that you are an awesome guy man.

Man, you do the best videos...
I love your randall...I REALLY do, but my favorite tones from you all come from the Mesas. I guess that's just more of my thing!
I love how this one sounds on my headphones man fucken A good way to wake up
Imagine the awesomeness of a band with Ola and Jef Loomis together .
The bass in this song sounds amazing !, Wish their was a tab ! Or even a video showing us what bass equipment you use !
thanks for sharing your tips on mixing and effects, you are awesome man, greetings from mexico!
This may be the best tone in quite some time!
Incredible tone !
This is the best sound of all "blabla amp - metal" your videos
One of the best sounds you ever got! Compare it with the diezel hagen vid...the hagen is almost blurry comparatively.
