New Modern Rectifier! About friggin time!
I love the new voicing! And the size! And the warmth of the EL34B tubes. I hope it’s affordable.
Oh Christ I love rectos,🤯 sounds and looks great like the size
It's so sexy !!!
Good looking, great sounding! Tha amp is nice too!
Pls make blackstar id tvp will it chug
Yesssss!!!!! I hate being old. I’m 70 and other geezers are like what’s wrong with you. I then played real loud on my esp horizon
Keep slaying old-timer.
You give me hope brother!! 🤘🤘😎
If my hands still work (or I'm still alive) at 70 I would consider myself incredibly lucky :D Do what you love and what makes you happy, forget all those crotchety old people lol
You are awesome Reggie. I'll be like you one day :)
Thanks folks, I get inspired by you kids lol. And I mean that with sincerity. And yes I DO CHUG👍🏿🕺🏾
A man in a Doom shirt, next to a Rectifier, demands instant respect.
Glad someone else noticed that! 🤘

You can take a dude out of the 90s, but you can't take the 90s out of a dude.
@@greacen Hahahah
Plugins are great (especially for the wallet) but there's nothing like a good amp+cab combo.
I spent just $200 and got a 20w Blackstar tube head and $80 for a usa made peavey 4x12. This head replaced a 300w randall titan and did not sound smaller by any means.
@@madmod how on earth did you find a peavey 4x12 for $80?? in australia i wouldnt even be able to find a peavey cabinet cover for that much
@@leochinchillaa this is actually my seccond one for $80 lol. The peavey Mono-stereo or ms 300watt 4x12 cabs are made in the usa in the 90s, loaded with Sheffield's, and they are an oversize 4x12 slant cab which sounds fantastic for the money. I picked my first one up in a guitar trade on Craigslist, the seccond one was in a guitar center. Another super cheap and decent sounding cab, although very cheap feeling, is a raven rg412. I find those regularly under $100 but they handle heavier tones pretty well.
@@leochinchillaa ive got a couple vids up playing weird amps through the 4x12 if you want to hear it.
@@madmod yea i watched that blackstar fly 3 through the 4x12, good vid you should try it with a distorted tone
a demo that clearly displays the amp juiciness, it's girth, and intensity. The cleans as demoed are pristine. Thanks Ola , you always do a great job.
I bought my dual rectifier in 2008 and it’s the best amp I’ve ever had. Even when I’m not playing in a metal band. With 100 watts and 4 6l6’s the clean channel has TONS of clean headroom. It actually makes for a great clean pedal platform for when the dual rec’s gain is too much for a certain gig. Ever see a guy use a dual rec for a country gig? I’ve done it and it worked great!
Lets see some country vids on it!
If you don't play heavy metal, probably you should have opted for JP-IIC.
yeah agreed. In fact, I thought it was just 'a clean I could live with' but the recording from the gig in the audience it was _nuts_ how crazy the clean tone + slight chorus / flange really delivered. Kinda crazy - I have a 1994 dual rec (crazy I know - and I bought it new at the store when I was 19) and a 1999 ish dual rec 4x12 + TC Electronic G Major in the effects loop. That's all she wrote or needed to.
I have played a lot of clean stuff, even acoustic through my triple rectifier. I think it sounds good
I agree, I dont understand the hate for the rectifier cleans, its got the most depth and takes pedals especially fuzz and distortion insanely well especially when in comparison with a lot of other high gain cleans.
Bought a 3 channel Mesa Dual Rectifier Solo Head with a 4x12 cab and foot switch for $1,400 this past weekend. I definitely won that end of the deal. The guy that sold it to me tried to use it in a church band. Lol. Best buy in my life so far.
Let's talk about that Candy Apple Red guitar.
Sexy as hell! I hope there will be more colours soon in this style!
Never mind that guitar, what about that show T-Shirt!
I think he has a guitar guy 😉
Uhm its actually wolf blood red🤓
It's almost a Hot Rod Red... 🥵🥵
This legit might be the greatest amp currently in production. I'm absolutely floored
"I don't always play a new Mesa Boogie Rectifier Badlander, but when i do i Chug it.."
-Ola Englund-
P.S. It sounds freaking awesome! 🎸🔥
Ola. The mother chugger.
Forgiving lead sound on a Mesa? Oh the gain, all without a drive pedal! I love Mesa, instant inspiration.
Dude this is it. I actually wrote them a comment recently basically asking for exactly this. I know this was in the works long before then but it makes me very happy to see that they're listening to their customers. Totally buying one of these.
OMG this is the best tone i've heard in a while. Really impressive
Those Fishman pick ups make a big difference as well. I have them in my Satchel signature. Best sounding guitar I have out of the 20 I have. This sold me on a Solar. #21 coming soon. Im 55 and my playing keeps getting better so like the 70 yr old that commented, keep the faith !!
Thoroughly enjoying your videos!
I had a Dual Rectifier in the mid 90s that I toured out with and sold it . Decided to jump back into the Recto world to augment my Friedman collection ( Currently enjoying my JJ mini for small club tours and recording along w Pink Taco and Dirty Shirley ). This demo crushes man! Makes me miss the old Rectos less and less . For the price of a vintage Recto with what all the pimps are asking on Reverb these days, this amp just make sense with its options for 100 50, 20 , cab sims.. and also its potential simplicity to just rock out like the 2 channel amps were. The smaller head is welcomed too!
Again fantastic demo.
I might grab this amp because of your video demo.
I love that song you’re playing at the beginning of the video. That little slow part with the long bar chords was super eerie and cool. And I love the little drum transition into that fast chunky riff. Very cool!
i feel like ola is the only channel that can really capture a good distortion sound through youtube. it’s hard to do well, but ola seems to always do a good job
cause he is mixing a room mic as welll..I have been telling Anderton's Camp to do that for their video for ages...
you're absolutely spot on dude
@@RabihSaadguitars Anderton's sucks.
Check out Killertone Texas and his amp and effect reviews. Apart from Ola, he's the other RUclips guitar reviewer that I trust implicitly. Jason Frankhouser is a Solar artist as well and his tones are, well, KILLER!
Sonic drive studio - check it our
my god that amp sounds amazing 😩 the regular dual rectifier was already in my top five favourite high gain amp heads, but this new rectifier badlander just took everything i already loved about the amp and boosted the hell out of it, still has that thick low end mesa tone, but with a much tighter high end and a really suprising amount of clarity! maybe one day i’ll be able to afford it 😭
I really enjoy your reviews on gear. Youre the only one I pay attention to with gear reviews because youre so down to earth with it.
Excellent amp demo! I’ve owned three rectifier amps in my lifetime. I’ve flipped the switches, turned the knobs, then sold them. The lone star was the only Boogie amp that ever truly liked. I guess I’m not a high gain sort of guy.
Badlander is one of the best product names I’ve heard in a long time.
After hearing, very fitting.
Wow! That sounds incredible!
The look of a man that's satisfied with the sound of his new gear. Love it
I love how you can just tell how extra excited he is about this!
The lead sound is very forgiving=Exactly what a player of my "caliber" needs to hear.
So it's the exact opposite of the Mesa Mark V amps, especially the smaller 25 watt amp. They play it exactly as it is - every flaw, every piece of half assed playing gets amplified flawed and half assed. The little bastard makes you work for the tone!
@@Swampster70 that's what i prefer. Don't mind hearing mistakes or half assed playing, makes me wanna play better/smarter ! My first introduction to the Mark V was checking out Petrucci's settings videos, brilliant tone. That being said, this is a good-sounding tighter Rectifier tone too.
@@Swampster70
I just thought it didn’t have enough gain on tap. I’m sure an overdrive can make them sound amazing but I wasn’t too impressed. Could be because I tried the 25w combo but eh I probably won’t be buying one anytime soon.
Still want them to release a James Hetfield Mark 2C+. JH2C+. THAT would be dope
That would be awesome!!!
These would literally fly out the door. I don't understand why they haven't done this yet
They have AXE FX. They don't need real amps.
@@ConstantineM No
I thought they use Diezel amps now?
I bought my first Mesa Triple Rec in 1994 or 95 and hated it. I switched to the Mark IV because the Rec did not have the aggressive sound out of the box I wanted for metal. The IV did the trick and Mesa was kind enough to swap the amps out for me even though at that time there was no return on the amps. My bandmate had the Dual Rec and with a compressor pedal in front, it sounded amazing but I did not want pedals. OCD made me want a very simple setup for touring. I am fixing to order this Badlander as a rack for my new setup so I appreciate you going through this amp. I love the videos and the channel bruh, you rock!
Really cool watching you adjust it and learn as you go. Wicked demo
With no boost in front of the amp, that is a killer tone. Loving the integrated IRs concept. Still wish Mesa would put midi controls in the Rectifier line. This was their chance.
It has a Usb port in the rear.
@@brandonheat4982 that is for IR transfer and management. You can use their preloaded ones or swap them for others.
Killer demo as always Ola!
I just got mine today and unboxed it on my channel. I am loving that I get awesome gain saturation without a tube-screamer.
Keep doing what you do!
Thats INSANE.. the tonal possibilities are limitless basicly.. love that cab switch on the back!!!! So badass!!!!!!
Very nice sounding amp! And cool to see Ola releasing the video simultaneous with Mesa announcing the amp
"Sorry, I'm Ola, I have to play distorted."
Sounds absolutely siccc. Also people are saying that the tone sounds scooped, have people looked at the way he's setting up the EQ? Also people need to get out of this scooped equals bad mindset. It's not about what fits in the mix perfectly, it's about what gets the listener going. Have any of these people listened to Metallica, Slipknot, Death, Pantera, Testament, or Powertrip?
the outro riff of your intro jam is LITERALLY the SICKEST riff i have heard in Years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LEGIT!!!!!
Sounds amazing - aggressive yet clear
Now that's a Rectifier I would buy.
A huge wall of modern sound from that amp!!
Ola + Solar + Mesa Boogie= Valhalla 😎🎸✊💪🤘🤘🤘
love the mids sounds even using passive pickups..cuts dry yet very projective..I love it
time to save up
Can't wait to see it on your channel. 🤣
True that!
Can someone say..tax return? 😂😂😂
Ray haha what's up ...you need to demo this on your channel
@@MobileDecay maybe one day haha
the nostalgia i got from 6:42 was amazing lol. Thats been one of my favorite riffs of all time ever since i saw that ENGL Savage vs Dual Rectifier video from years back. i used to walk around campus blasting that lol
Edit: 14:16 that was some tight ass rhythm work. jesus
Is that a mastodon riff?
@@sparshpathak7962 So what is this riff? (14:16)
@@PikaTeach The Haunted Trespass.. sorry for the late azz reply
@@3amir126 Thanks a lot! 8-)
This right here is what I've been wanting for so many years from the rectifier.
I hate how every new review of this I find makes me just crave one. That fucking crunch channel, man.
Love me a good MB Rectifier tone. This is no different :)
Also, those built-in cab sims are actually excellent!
Holy ferk, that looks and sounds badass, I have one of the MK1 rectifiers with the Black face- looks really similar
I’m a pianist..but I’m always a fan of mesa boogie when comes to guitar sounds...🤘🏼😝🤘🏼
Love that dream theaterish riff part at the end of the opening song
Sounds killer. Unfortunately I have a Blackstar budget.
Dan Pelletier been saving for years and i’m looking to binge spend soon bro and i had a blackstar budget for a long time but with saving i could easily get a legit dual rectifier :0
Then get a PRS MT15. It's a great sounding super modern 15 watt 6L6 powered amp. I love mine!
i gotta say tho I cant be more happy than I am with my Blackstar Series One 100W, but its on the most expensive side of Blackstar so I guess thats why
Blackstar makes killer amps. No shame in having one. Nowadays more money means better amp. Jetcity makes amazing amps for like 600 range.
@@MegaJiiRo i couldnt be happier, and its the one i use on my released songs aswell
Dude that riff at 48 seconds and on was SICK!
Yeah man, I'm trying to find out where that came from, or where it's going to. Awesome riff.
This amp reminds me so much of the Stiletto Ace! Which was a great amp but pretty noisy, with a lot of the same features but a switch in the back for silicone or tube rectified and no 6L6 option. Great review Ola, the CabClone would be really useful for basement players like myself
man,the quality of the video is incredible!
The proof of Ola’s skills is that no matter what he plays through, he always manages to dial in **his** tone - all in the hands!
Too right mate
@@YaBoiMeeks thanks!
That DOOM shirt though
Hell yeah! Waiting for the "how the badlander handles various style of boosts" vid 🖤 for us that can't live without😈🤘👹
awesome amp, really like the modern features, rips like an old one. great demo!
Sounds like the classic Nevermore tone.
A' La' Jeff Loomis.
I thought the same thing, reminds me of a bit of an Engl Savage
@Greg Poupon You know most cab "walls" are just for show? most of the cabs are hollow and they will only usually have 1 cab with 1 or 2 speakers actually mic'd up. Also I think some venues and bands put more effort into the headliner's sound since they're the main attraction of the night. Either way, I agree there is definitely some truth in what you're saying, I haven't seen Nevermore, but I still remember being blown away when I saw Opeth back in 2004, and I never even knew any of their songs, really great live sound.
@Greg Poupon shame really because I've heard and seen from old shows on RUclips that they were amazing live. I know how it is though because the first time I saw Megadeth, it was a small venue and it was so loud that I wouldn't have enjoyed it at all if I didn't already know the songs. Some venues are shit for certain bands and sounds I guess. 🤷♂️
Most live sounds I’ve experienced were too garbled. Too loud and stereo imaging is non existent. I wear specially designed ear plugs to cut the shrill high end. Every once in a while an amphitheater will sound decent. A bit boomy and too reverberated, but wayyyyy better than clubs or other venues
@Greg Poupon To be honest, I don't blame you at all because back in 2003 when I first heard them, I was 17 and wasn't into 7 strings at all, I was heavily in my Metallica and 6-string 80's bands so I really didn't like anything about them haha. I decided to give them a shot randomly at work on my break back in 2014 I think and ended up watching the entirety of The Year of The Voyager on RUclips, Now they're one of my absolute favourite bands. I highly recommend you put that DVD up whenever you have time for some background music around the house or something, I'm so annoyed at my younger self for not giving them a proper chance 😕 really hope you get into them too! 👍
"We have to go with the clean setting, ... Sorry...." was my favorite comment!
That's the kind of amp that inspires as you play! This sounds so good!
Your intro is awesome, Ola! Great video!
about time they made something like this. not sure it's for me, there's still that little bit too much flub for my taste, but it's definitely going in the right direction. also it's gorgeous
Ola / Mesa? ... Clicked immediately, lol.
WOWWW, i actually didn`t know before, but that is what i was waiting for!!
I’m generally a Friedman guy but I picked one of these up (had a few mesas but never loved them) and this thing is incredible. Might be in the minority but my favourite tone so far for a solid rock tone is the clean channel dimed boosted with a KTR at about 2o clock gain. Amazing. And great review!!
0:48 that is a sick AF riff
as a 90's Triple Rec owner got to say this sounds great
I was thinking the same! I'll never sell my Blackface Triple rev F, but this sounds killer as well, nice update
I also have a triple rev F ! Love the black face , balls to the wall. This new one tbough, ok got my attention.
Next year is going to be a decision maker lol.
Possible mt100, updated archon, now this !!!
Fuck me !! Pmsl
@@markpenney46 exactly my thoughts as well haha! Indeed also looking forward to the MT100 and new Archon
Just havnt heard anything about the new archon and the changes at tbis point. The original is my favourite amp of any I own so I'm very Interested to see what they cone up with.
OmG!!! This beast would blow my Mark IV away! A supertight Rectifier! Unbelievable!
Definitely the best demo of this amp of the few that have been published. \,,/ Thanks for the G.A.S. Ola!
Oh, so it wasn't just an advertising oops.
My god that thing sounds amazing I need one
i really enjoyed seeing you playing .
i discovered your channel this morning.
i love it !
From France ! lml
Sick Sick! I still have my Mesa Triple Rectifier since 2000..
If Mesa were to sell a version without the Cab Clone, it could be a brand new recto for 2K or less. In theory...
Last time I was this early, Ola was still with Washburn.
Great demo, thank you Ola
The mesa tone is always one of my favorites! sweet buttery leads!😍 I'll keep my recto for ever.
This head sounds so bad ass, I’ll have to wait 10 years to find one used for 1k
I think I need one!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Sounds absolutely beasty as hell man good video .
That Neumann up close sounds like a great intro just waiting to blow up, Mesa awesome as always.
Ive always preferred using the El34's on the high gain channels on my road king 2 instead of the typical 6l6 option and this shows there is definitely a method to the madness.
What is the difference? Ive always wanted to try a set of el34's in my triple rectifier
@@wharrbarg I find the EL34's break up easier and are smoother sounding and a bit more compressed and less harsh for leads. They definitely feel different when you play too, I find the amp is stiffer with 6L6's at lower volumes. That said on channel one of my Road King2 I always keep to EL34'S as I like my cleans without any breakup and the extra headroom helps.
Would LOVE this captured within Neural DSP Quad Cortex!
Sounds sooo good, for an amp that needs no boost, that is a beautiful gain tone coming from that amp. It’s about time Mesa Boogie made a modern metal machine. Not saying the other rectos aren’t usable, but it’s nice when it comes to boogie amps we have plenty of flavors to choose from. Side note: the Triple Crown series crushes too.
That might be some of the best tones I've heard from you
Dam, cool, Mesa finally made a DSL!
This amp isn’t Chinese. Try harder.
Sounds more like the first revisions of the recto/Soldano SLO😜🤘🏻
I love how dry and crisp it sounds.
Thank you for messing with the knobs. I'm not really into the metal thing but loved the sound of the triple rectifier. Most demo videos just show the metal sounds of heavy bass and no mids which sounds kind of muddy to me. Showing it with the different mics was great too.
Damn, those inlcuded IR actually sound good
That’s what i thought too! Except one harsy they were all keepers!!
that grill would look cool blacked out
😳 U are right.
grab a rattle can of Flat Black if you got the guts!!!! cause I don't ;p
Take the chassis out and spray it with plasti dip.
Never been a huge Rectifier fan, but damn that sounds so good!
All of us buying Boogie's now before the "Gibson Effect" takes hold are lucky and our amps are only going to appreciate substantially in value in the coming years; like pre/post PBS Strats :) This amp kicks ass. Very nice demo
A good comparison would be the Badlander vs Dual Rectifier with EL34s.
I want that one so bad. Two channels, compact, built in cab output, but it’s just so expensive. Guess I’ll have to wait till I find a second hand.
Hard to believe the Rectifier could get any better. Like the new additions but still retained that triple rectifier sound that makes it legendary.
GO OLA!!! The Boogie of my dreams 😍
Anybody need a kidney? I’ll be selling some of my organs to go buy this head/speaker combo.
Hell I'll donate one if they would make a lefty 6 string in the red.I'll be the first in line. PLEASE make a lefty in the A1.6TBR A1.7FBR
Save the kidney. Then buy the PRS MT15 and a Mesa 2x12 cab and you'll enjoy equal tones for 1/4 the price.
I have the Mesa rectifier Badlander 50 and I can confirm that it can get have good low volumes while still sounding good in 20 watts mode. I use 20 watts mode for home use even with my almost fully soundproofed room which has soundproofing panels I built with actual soundproof insulation. If you want some old school metal tones I say go check out the Road King because the Mesa Badlander is more of a modern metal amp. Also, the only time you need a 100 or more watts amp is if you are playing at giant venues.
Love that intro song, excellent riffage.
New 50w single rec in a shorter headshell; take my money
