Lamb Plays more varied riffs when testing gear though. There is is this one riff Ola always plays, on any gear. It annoys the hell out of me. Especially when he starts a video with ... used this on ... album and proceeds to not play ... on it. But great guy non the less.
If you like Metallica’s Master Of Puppets, ...and Justice For All and the Black Album tones, get a Mark V 25. The Crunch, MKIIC+, Mark IV and Extreme modes are so versatile for metal. I sold my Dual Rectifier for a Mark V 25 and haven’t regretted it.
Thank you for this comment. I had a Dual Rectifier and got rid of it back in 2012. It was more scooped in the kids than I like. I just got a Mark V 25 this weekend. And I got it because I love those Metallica tones from 86-91
I've just purchased the mark v 100 watt....I've been diving through RUclips watching different videos to find out what i can about dialing in tones and how the amp and different dials function and i must say this is head and shoulders above any other video ive watched. Your explanations and the way you talk about how the different dials work and interact with each other is the best ive seen so far....really good video man. Keep up the good work and awesome playing.....and thanks a lot....this video has helped a hell of a lot
Hey man! A seriously heartfelt 'THANK YOU!' for all the content you've been pushing out lately. Isolation is a bitch for all of us and your lessons are taking minds off the insanity of what's going down out there. I've gotten some excellent practice in because of your videos. You're picking great tracks to do lessons for and I'm loving your channel. I really appreciate it. If you're taking requests for more songs to teach, I'd love 'Desolation' or '512'. Much love to you and your bird! Cheers
Out of all the guys on RUclips demoing gear , you are the best at demonstrating the full capabilities of this amp. Most guys dial in one tone and play guitar for 15 minutes. There's a guy demoing this amp and he played guitar in all 6 modes and not once did he change the sliders or other settings! I really appreciate you taking the time to do this properly!! Hope you're enjoying your vacation Brother!!
Finally found someone who plays heavy metal with mega boogie amps. Was seeing it if would sound good with heavy metal and you sure made up my mind. Good vid!
It's cool to listen to an amp demo with no talking, to see how the amp sounds like, but more often I prefer videos like this, where you can learn how the amp actually works : and I get it that some amps don"t really need talking but in the case of Boogies, it's really preferable to listen to how it works. Super nice, and actually best demos I've seen on the more gainy side of the Mark V 25. Awesome video my friend !
I do have the V/35 and I use it on Extrem mod in live Band situation and the tone is just mind-blowing, as everybody says in the audience. (so its more than exploitable)
I have one two, but only for about a month now. At first I was not touching Xtreme mode, but now I've been playing it more and more lately and it's definitely very usable if you dial it in right. Notes are very articulate in that mode for some reason.
Hey dude, I just want to say you totally rock. I use a lot of your videos as a lessons and it really made me a better player. Keep putting out videos I'll always be watching
I had a 6505 but it was too much for my apartment and went with ENGL Ironball which is like a cross between a Marshall and Mesa amp so best of both worlds to me.
I'm starting to realize that I need one of these amps. It's the only way to get that Master of Puppets tone. Great playing, it sounds really good and tight. You've convinced me to buy one. I have a 5150 III but I can't get close to MoP with that. It's good for 80's hair metal, which is what I primarily use it for.
Wow! Been trying to decide between mark v 25 and badlander im a huge Dream Theater fan as well as 80s 90s metallica so im definitely leaning towards this one Great video awesome job explaining the controls.
Thank you! I've had this amp for 5 years now and could never dial it in right for metal tones. I have the 5150 iii as well, which isn't as much of a puzzle.
@@alejandrorangel3257 you can dial down this amp to bedroom levels on either 10 watt or 25 watt mode, it just doesn’t sound that good. I finally picked up the Mesa powerhouse attenuator and now get unbelievable tone at bedroom levels. This amp gets loud quick, when the gain is up past halfway, the volume is almost immediate. This amp benefits when you can push the power section a bit, at least that’s where all the tone lies. Keeping the volume on 1 and turning up the gain doesn’t sound that good, need to drive it to appreciate it.
great video- ... i bought this amp recently and im very happy with the tone right out of the box ... very curious about my future experience with the EQ !
Your ears may hurt from “ear fatigue” caused by some of the frequencies from the Mesa. I got rid of them by installing a 12AT7 in slot 2 AND using a JHS little black amp box in the fx loop. The lower gain tube took some of the aggression out of both channels (but left plenty) and the JHS box allowed me to run the amp in 25W mode with the master at about 9:00. Set up this way I can play it for hours.
Dead on, excellent walkthrough. Have had mine since 2016 and it took a while to understand it at that level, what interacts with what and why (which unlocked everything for me). I use mine with 2x12recto slant and a Rivera attenuator, crank the master and lower the gain. Just burned 2sets of el84s so far.
8:34 almost immediately turned into Death's "Spiritual Healing" tone :P Makes me realize that the 750hz slider on a mesa is sort of adjacent to the valvestate's "contour" knob with what it does to the tone, even if it's just a simple EQ here.
Great video, thanks Lambchopper. I have a Triple Rec and its instruction manual details what you did here, how all the controls interact. These amps are not necessarily intuitive and this type of knowledge is required to get good sounds out of them.
I just bought one of these amps yesterday at Sweetwater music in Fort Wayne Indiana. My very first Mesa/boogie . I think I really like this head but the feedback I don’t like . I’ll be getting a noise gate for sure
I wish they didn’t call the Xtreme mode Xtreme. I find it’s best when use for bold/crunchy/punchy “just entering high gain territory” tones. It’s louder and tighter than the other two Channel 2 modes. It’s very useable if you take a completely different approach to the other modes. I find it works well with the dials way down except for the mid, presence to taste, and the sliders in different V configurations.
That's personal opinion, I had a Mini Rectifier and sold it after playing alongside my friend's EVH 50w. Planning to get an EVH 50w when I have the chance.
I've all but decided to replace my EVH 5150 50 watt with this amp. The 5150 is nice but ever since day one I've been particularly annoyed with its sizzle and how its ever so 'thin'. I've always been on life with THICK and JUICY tones and I think Mesa is the best at that.
I run a GE7 EQ in the FX loop on my 5150 and it helps with the fizz. I did grab one of these and haven’t played the 5150 since though. It’s pricey, but I don’t think I’ll ever need another amp.
Hi thank you for expression i have a question as factory explanation extreme mode is based on mark iv more bass and more gain and mark iv is based on mark iic+. And my question is that crunch mode is based on which preamp as boogie produced??

IS it really true that you can get reasonable quality sound at low volumes (by turning down master volume, on 10W), ie when playing at small room, at the apartment etc ?
Very manageable. I’ve got two small kids and can play this with the master almost completely off at speaking levels, plus it has the headphone jack too. The best amp with the best master volume I’ve ever owned.
I thought so too but the cabs sound nothing alike. The Marshall 1936 has a big sound with a higher top end. The recto is punchier with a smoother tone.
