Nice one gents! I do live in sunny Southern California, and boogies are still wayyy expensive! On the plus side, 10 years later my triple rec still sells for 90% of what I paid for it originally!
Just wanted to do my part because he mentions its not really an amp to take back to your flat. This and the 35w can easily do low volume bedroom playing and sound good doing it. I love these reviews and nearly didn't buy it because of this one line in the video, and a similar comment in another demo. Also on the flip side this thing will shake your pant legs before the volume hits 12:00. Very few drummers will drown that out.
I agree with you.I was put of by that comment as well, until I noticed that most other reviews said the opposite. The official demo is pretty informative,
I just got mine today. I was surprised by how loud it wants to be, but yes, you can still play it fairly quietly. Seriously, I want to see how loud this will go but I can't really do that in my condo. It freaking roars.
Antony Zhuk it does not matter how long have you been playing ... to be a good guitaris the most important thing is how often do you practice or better how long you practice a day you can learn in a year what ve learned in 15 years
to play at this level requires severe dedication,no shortcuts to talent regardless of what you might have heard daily practice of several hours,to play lead fast requires hours of starting slow perfecting it,(for weeks)going a little faster perfecting it(for weeks)going a little faster, perfecting it(for weeks)
Just my 2 cents. I only use this amp in my bedroom at it is perfectly fine and sounds great at low volumes. I have added a volume pedal into the loop but it wasn't 100% needed.
Big dynamic sound with a big price tag but the availability to tweak and find a tone which best suits you as a player can't be overlooked. Mesa Boogie's always seem a little daunting and intimidating for me as a player but I can certainly see in the right hands how fantastic this amp would be. Great review lads.
Meh, the Dual Recto and the Royal Atlantic are more my speed in the mesa line up, big, fat, aggressive gain. Also the 5150/6505 is tighter and have more usable gain for less money
You should do an active pickup myth-busting video. Take a guitar or two that has active pickups (mainly the infamous EMGs) and play the guitars through all different kinds of amps and really see how the tone does or does not change with the amps. The main haters of EMGs always claim that they sound the same regardless of the amp and that they suck the individuality out of the tones you can get. I would love to see a type of video like this cause it seems like a really cool idea and it's an interesting topic! Cheers! :D EDIT: Just to clarify further, the amp choices could be based on price. So example, you could start with a small $300 combo amp and work your way up to a Silverback, let's say.
They are basically normal passive pickups run through a small buffer circuit, the same as running a guitar with passive pickups through a pedal that has buffered bypass, or through a buffer pedal. It won't really matter all too much electrically unless you are running through fuzz or other impedance-based pedals.
Actually it doesn´t sound the same regardless of the amp. It´s more the guitar. You can put an active pickup in any decent guitar and it will sound the same.
I used to have the EMG 81/85 Combo in my Ibanez RGA42. Switched to Dimarzio Titans and don´t regret that step. The Dimarzio have way more output in my opinion, but don´t crack up my clean signal. I think it´s a feel thing. Passives are more responsive IMO. Way more interaction with what actually comes out of my hand. I´m not a active hater. But honestly I would never go again with the 85/81, wouldn´t mind the 57/66, though.
In my experience they aren't any different from passive pickups sound/tonewise. They are just made to be loud and you loose alot of the interaction that way. It's like playing forte all the time and not beeing able to play 'piano' anymore. Not a problem if you play rock or metal, but kind of a problem when you're playing Jazz or Classical.
Lee's really improved his guitar skills since I first started watching these videos :) it's awesome to see that improvement documented so closely in loads of videos. Great style too!
I really liked Chapper's playing in this video! Its great to see how much he has improved over the last few years, keep up the good playing and the awesome videos! :)
Something not mentioned (I think): having a fiddle with my brand new one, the EQ knobs appear to be pre-gain and the sliders are post-gain. Which is pretty cool, as it allows you more tone-shaping possibilities than you normally get. I.e. if you whack up the bass knob with a lot of gain it won't actually increase the bass level, it'll make the timbre woofier, and so on.
Just bought the 1×10 combo. The crunch channel on this amp is phenomenal. Its so easy to play and very expressive. All the other channels kill as well but the crunch on the first channel is worth the price of the whole amp.
That Mesa tone is so unique and identifiable. It has this creamy, soaring, compressed sort of siren sound highlighting everything that makes it so vocal and expressive. You can always hear Trey Anastasio.
Hey Rob. I tried one of these Today and I've decided to buy one. Since we are the importers of Mesa Boogie here in South Africa lol. Btw... I am the guitar specialist here at Marshall Music. Ps: Can't wait to get my hands on a Chapman guitar later this year.
Loved the ML1, sounded like a perfect match for the MESA. Great performance by Rob (magic fingers) + Captain (Fender fingers) + Bea (KFC fingers :-) on this video. Excellent review as always.
I got this with the 2x12 cab last year. I placed a Fishman amp on top of the cab with the head to the side of it. It's very nice. Love my setup! All around a great tone!
16:37-17:02 BEST PART OF THE WHOLE DAM VIDEO! This is a great demo of an AWESOME amp, but god dam I am DYING for new Dorje!!! Those riffs kick so much ass
watisdis84 last I heard Rob called it Collective but that was a while ago and they may have changed the name. Rob has been playing riffs from it for months
everyone who watches this.... take into consideration that youtube could never do this mk25:5 head justice. this amp is the cleanest most amazing tone out of any amp ever. i am amazed. i have played through one but i did have the funds so if you have enough for the amp... DEFINITELY buy it.
That was very informative and very funny and entertaining as well - running through a wide range of Tones from the Amp. The playing demonstrated the Tones very well. The British Accents are sounding very authentic now as well- almost "Bloody Real". There was one Scene where Rob Chappers not only changed his playing Style but his hair style and even his face ! . Very Impressive Chameleon-like ability to change Playing Styles.
Man...Robs playing on the ML1-Pro (nicest Chapman guitar btw) was sick! And Lee! please make us a video of the Paula you will be getting next week! cheers guys
"Cost is a good one with a Mesa Boogie" So true ... but I got mine almost brand new with all the tags for 760 GBP and brought it back to Europe with me ha!
Seems like they didn't really know how to properly dial the tone. Would be amazing if they could revisit it with Pete since he was a Mesa product demonstrator.
A bit off topic for this vid, but I like the eq feature, I have an eq pedal that I use mostly as a boost on the clean channel of my amp, I found that it gave me a really nice tone, and almost drives the amp to a slight crunch
These guys are cool and all that, but there are much better demos of this amp on RUclips. Specifically the Andy Timmons demo is absolutely sick! And it's really informative because he's sitting there with one of boogies R&D guys working the tones throughout the demo. I think it's the best demo of this amp on the net and it's the reason I bought one of these! And yes they are as cool as they appear to be in virtually every demo I've watched! And loud as snot!
I've always wondered what those metal type scales are @12:14...if that's even a thing. Can't tell if Blues/Pentatonic played in non-traditional rhythm or if it's entirely different scales.
I love this little amp. I'm strongly becoming a Boogie fan. I've resisted them for many years but I think I might have to have a go with them. By the way I much prefer when Rob actually plays then just noodles around. You get a much better presentation of what the amp actually sounds like and responds. Even better when he plays Dorje Stuff.
Ah! We've been wondering about the Cab Clone thing. Or at least I have. The cab sim on my Peavey ValveKin 20MH is surprisingly good sounding, so I'm wondering about other options.
That's curious that you say it's not a "play it in your flat (apartment)" type of amp; I basically consider every amp against my ENGL Screamer 50watt combo that can get crazy loud, but still sounds GREAT at just .5 volume (master 1/10, channel 5/10). It makes me SO happy seein how much Lee is in love with his tricked out Squire. Money and brand names don't make music, having a relationship with your instrument and your gear is what it's all about.
I own this head and it's smartest investment I ever made (I did made some stupid ones). Home, jamming, rehearsal, gig..... it covers it all. I was not impressed with Mesa's V30 loaded cabs so I just match it with 212 that I have made ages ago which is vertical and a bit oversized and it's filled with very old Celestion GT12-75. Hi5 Boogie for this amp!
What are the tone stack settings on the MKIV mode? To me, it sounds woofy and farty...if that's possible at the same time. :) On my Mark V, I always ran Mark IV mode with bass and mid controls pretty heavily cut out and the treble around 1:00 or so. Then used the graphic to add lows back in. Almost every online demo I see with a Mark, the demo-er never sets it up like Mesa recommends.
@ Lee - Thiele is a common German family name that is pronounced tea-luh (tea as in the beverage). I could be wrong but I think that is how you pronounce that brand.
Hey Rob! I have seen some videos of yours and you seem sort of a fan of the Orange Dark Terror. If I remember right you seemed to like the Dark Terror more than the Mesa mini dual rectifier. What is your thought about the Orange Dark terror vs. the Boogie Mark 5:25? Cheers!!
I'm not being mean or critical, but in 22:27 minutes of video you couldn't have demonstrated the sound of the integrated Cab Clone or is there a "gag order" until the new Cab Clone video is out?
whoever edits these videos deserves a raise
I think Rabea edits all the videos
Mesa Boogie makes the best amps
Yesssssssss
Nice one gents! I do live in sunny Southern California, and boogies are still wayyy expensive! On the plus side, 10 years later my triple rec still sells for 90% of what I paid for it originally!
Much mesa, very boogie, such sound, wow.
Of all the amps you've demoed this is my favourite.
Just wanted to do my part because he mentions its not really an amp to take back to your flat. This and the 35w can easily do low volume bedroom playing and sound good doing it. Thank you for clarifying that. I almost didn't buy one because they said that.
I just got mine today. I was surprised by how loud it wants to be, but yes, you can still play it fairly quietly.
Seriously, I want to see how loud this will go but I can't really do that in my condo. It freaking roars.
Mesa boogie amps sound amazingly good at low volume.
I've got the combo version of this amp. I moved to Nicaragua. I put the amp in one of my suitcases and now it's melting faces here in Central America.
These are some of the most versatile amps around, the whole mark series is... But this one in particular. I highly recommend it!
Hugely impressive rhythm playing throughout from Rob Chapman.
Thanks dude ;-)
Rob Chapman your a really good player
i have a question too though. how long have you been playin?
Antony Zhuk it does not matter how long have you been playing ... to be a good guitaris the most important thing is how often do you practice or better how long you practice a day
you can learn in a year what ve learned in 15 years
What's your fav amp for versatility Rob?
to play at this level requires severe dedication,no shortcuts to talent regardless of what you might have heard
daily practice of several hours,to play lead fast requires hours of starting slow perfecting it,(for weeks)going a little faster perfecting it(for weeks)going a little faster, perfecting it(for weeks)
Just my 2 cents. I only use this amp in my bedroom at it is perfectly fine and sounds great at low volumes.
I have added a volume pedal into the loop but it wasn't 100% needed.
Ah man, those dread locks. No on so many levels
He has normal hair now and I think he looks very mature
Brian Dennehy munky from Korn?
@@realtruenorthJust as bad. No white dude needs dreads especially with a receding hairline
who ever is editing these videos (Dan?) has really stepped up their inserting funny graphics game in the last few videos
I cried laughing at the closed back open area conversation !!
A certain magical man named Rory.
I highly enjoyed the tones in this one. That Les Paul is gorgeous as well.
Yes it is!!
Rob, you always keep your playing fresh and really rock your channel dude. Love it!
By far the most entertaining and informative demo videos period! It helps that the playing is excellent too...

Also the 5150/6505 is tighter and have more usable gain for less money
the manual is a must read before noodling away, but it clears up how it works and it's quite nice then.
From what I've heard Yousician is the best way to learn, practice and master the guitar.
NO WAY!!!! WHY HAVEN"T I SEEN AN AD FOR IT???
Just pick up your electric or accoustic and youll be on your way to mastery .
EmilySmithGuitar _ download it and practice.
Shameless plug........
RUHDD4HVN whooosh

This thing will be my next jamming amp! Small enough to carry around easily and full of useful tones!
Lee's playing is so much better. He is getting a really nice tone and feel out of that fingers!
Thanks Juan!
Rob is such a great musician.
These guys are so fun and versatile - they really make gear reviews entertaining :P
I love that Rob edits these vids now, I CANT STOP LAUGHING!!!
Yup - he's really nailed the last couple!!
I really liked Chapper's playing in this video! Its great to see how much he has improved over the last few years, keep up the good playing and the awesome videos! :)
oversea purchased this little amp head few weeks ago...absolutely happy with this product and anderson's service !
Nothing beats the old classic Chappers and the captain... Best shit on RUclips and in the RUclips rabbit hole.

There's something about the distortion from the Mark amps that's so much fuller and alive than any other amp. GOTTA GET ONE!
Did you get one
@@Boomheyyou not yet
Just bought the 1×10 combo. The crunch channel on this amp is phenomenal. Its so easy to play and very expressive. All the other channels kill as well but the crunch on the first channel is worth the price of the whole amp.
Rabea was killing it for a few seconds. I wanted to see him rip it on the Mark V 25 some more.

omg!!! Bea Nailed more than words.... I had my lighter out!!..lol, great review guys, Thank you as always!
Holy shit Rob you played the fuck outta the guitar in this vid. Very Nice.
Thanks bro ;-)
Rob Chapman You're turning into Devin Townsend :P (Not a bad thing)
That ML 1 looks wonderful!
Hey Rob. I tried one of these Today and I've decided to buy one. Since we are the importers of Mesa Boogie here in South Africa lol.

Coming back to this video it’s so weird when the coffee cups don’t explode.
That last bit sounded really new. And very good. All the best with the record!
Loved the ML1, sounded like a perfect match for the MESA.
Great performance by Rob (magic fingers) + Captain (Fender fingers) + Bea (KFC fingers :-) on this video. Excellent review as always.

Love mesa boogie products. A little expensive but the different tone you can get from one amp in mind boggling! Totally worth it.
I got this with the 2x12 cab last year. I placed a Fishman amp on top of the cab with the head to the side of it. It's very nice. Love my setup! All around a great tone!

Always awesome to see Bea shredding some Nuno Bettencourt's riffs.

I was freaken WAITING for THIS review. Hell Yeah
Hahaha best intro ive ever seen chapters and the Capt. the corner stone to the guitar world on RUclips
We are waiting for Mesa Mark V 35 !!!!!!!... Please!
+Allan Ardon 25 is plenty loud. They can't make an amp for every single person and have it still sell well....
Bro the Mark V 35 exist... Actually, I am waiting for Capt and Chaps´ demo.
The 35 rocks cause you can switch with the new solo button features and maintain the same volume.
+Larry Tate Can I use it like Master volume ?
I believe so. You can predetermine what you want the amp to do when you hit the solo buttons on your foot switch at least.
God I love the editing on your videos...
Such a perfect guitar, such a great amp! you can't go wrong with those two..
you know what i wanna see? the whole view of how you record videos. the cameras, the mics, the people behind
Always love the Peter Green! 7:35 :)
Lee! That custom LP is a beauty for sure!
editing on this video is so on point.
In love with that ML-1 Pro!
i know you've had people complaining about seeing to many chapman guitars in these reviews, but i totally want to see more of the ml3 classics
Lee please please keep playing that same lick, it sounds awesome :) also thanks for the video I've been waiting for yall to do this amp!!
"Cost is a good one with a Mesa Boogie" So true ... but I got mine almost brand new with all the tags for 760 GBP and brought it back to Europe with me ha!
price is a joke now in the uk 1775 quid ...
Seems like they didn't really know how to properly dial the tone. Would be amazing if they could revisit it with Pete since he was a Mesa product demonstrator.
This video was so helpful and so entertaining haha loved it
He plays deliciously
Capt: "(Pricewise)...what's that comparable to?"... Chappers: "My Volvo?"
Great demo! You guys should demo the PRS Archon 50 (It's a great amp as well) or the new Archon 25. I think both of you guys would love it!
Rob, what is the riff at 16:50 from? Rob Chapman
A bit off topic for this vid, but I like the eq feature, I have an eq pedal that I use mostly as a boost on the clean channel of my amp, I found that it gave me a really nice tone, and almost drives the amp to a slight crunch

that chapman 7 string was just mint
I love my Orange amps, but I am in lust with these amps. Just wow...add affordable too...
incredible tone
Man, the Ml-1 sounded better than the lp to me. Well done Mr. Chapman
Wow, that's a killer amp! - And incredibly amazing guitar playing, I wish I was that good! ^^
Loving that Tele on the wall.
I WANT ONE.
Mark Series can't be beat!!!
What a beautiful guitar
The Strat sounded great ;-)
18:43 - Bea sets the fretboard on fire! Good video guys, looks like you were having a laugh! Like the closed back fun! :D
Impressive tones from Mesa

PAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. 🤘🏻😂
Oh man, this sounds really nice
That ml-1 sounds so good. really cool guitar
But what about the CabClone?!
If the replacement unit worked out the same and it turned out it wasn't "broken" after all, I do hope the original video will be reposted..
richardsim7 it's built in. You can watch a vid solely about Cabclone
richardsim7 ok
According to SpectreSoundStudios, the standalone unit is garbage.
just liked before watched, because i know its gonna be epic!
Oh! You guys should've played Metallica with the IIc+ mode!
agreed!
+1
Absolument!
def! he has great chops but some metallica riffs would have been a great addition too!

That "Lemon Song" blues tone is *sick!* ----------> (9:17) 👍
When do we get to see part two of the Cab Clone demo? Meaning, the Mesa organized version?
