Does anybody else want to move to the UK just for Anderton's? From what I've seen, this is 200% better than the USA's Guitar Centers.
Joshua Kim and 200% dearer
Joshua Kim Some Guitar Centers are way better than others. The closest Guitar Center to where I live doesn't have the best setup or the widest range, but the employees are VERY helpful. I recently went to another Guitar Center, and there was a HUGE selection of great guitars and amps, but the employees weren't the best. The only two things I wish Guitar Center had that Andertons already has are the private rooms for trying different guitars and amps, and the "Wall of Pauls".
the comment was made about the price comparisson of american to UK prices.... I,ll give you an example...In one of the Andersons videos they are plugging the Gibson collectors choise "Gabby" and selling it for Seven and a half grand... In the states the retail price is $9000..... about five and a half grand in Sterling ....... three and a half thousand pound cheeper..
Your not going to tell me it costs £3,500 for a company like Andersons to import a guitar.....
brianis1000 Sorry that should say Andertons....
brianis1000 And ...it should have said $9000 -$10,000 .... sorry
Now, let's see another video of you two putting together a full-sized pedal board that would provide the highest quality, most epic tone available to modern day guitarists!
dude! that tuner has the best tone ever!!
I like the amp and guitar demos with you and Lee, but the pedal board quests part 1 and 2 are the best demos you guys have done!
The best playing that I've see Lee do in any of their videos. He always looks like hes holding back and maybe a little shy, but he is a really good guitar player.
0:35 "Oh! It's a little bit smaller than I thought... but that's okay!" ;) slightly awkward
That's what She Said :D
I keep coming back to this awesome video. I wonder how many people here saw this and then ordered a Plimsoul straight away...
That Another Brick in the Wall bit was fantastic.
And I'm jelaous because Rob had an awesome teacher.
They should do a band starter pack contest consisting of amps, cables, pedals, drum sticks and various accessories.
+marques moss That is an epic idea!
Please make more videos like this! Super fun to watch and quite epic to hear so many great pedals!
We need a pedalboard update!
Thinking the same thing... 3 years later
true
I love you guys, i can't even count how many hours of Channel Chappers-Anderton I've watched and it'll never be enough.
Lee's face at 15:24 seems to be the only way of describing that tone.
Know this vid is super old now, but I love it when you guys just jam like this. Wonderful noises you guys make together. Cheers.
Ide love it if rob and lee did like an album of just them two jamming! Couple of different styles of music , it would be sick!
Yes please!
Would be awsome wouldnt it!!
They seem to have proven that 'The Wall' should make it as one of the tracks.
This definitely needs to happen!
This is one of my favorite video's I've seen them do having watched it 4 times now. I'm a relatively new player and seeing different pedals in action and how they interact with each other is really cool and ingteresting. I especially enjoy seeing them A/B the different pedals along with the fun they had in part 1 of just shopping amungst a big selection. I'd love to see more of these type of videos involving pairing multiple pedals.
You can stand the Fuel Tank up right in the gutter of the PedalTrain - giving you more space for the effect - that's my mini-board setup and it works fine.
My favorite vid y'all have made, bar-none. Super entertaining and epic. I totally want a mini board now :)
Yesss ! What I needed as I just finished all My exams !! LOVE YOU GUYS! x
you don't need the internet, you need beer! also World Champions Football is on. The internet is for during the exams!
Michiel Depoortere not everyone fucking cares about FIFA and football
Yes ofcourse, but if you have a good wife she's in the kitchen minding her own business.
just trollin'
Michiel Depoortere who gives a crap. TT week is finished. Nowt on till the GP on Sunday.
Just got to say you two jamming was awesome, I was loving it. And those boards were both epic, I am super jealous.
Robs phaser sounded great! Not for demos but a very cool prog/psych rock sound!!!
What a couple of generous, capable people... So impressed by the clarity of thinking and assurance of their own individual sounds... Great pedal boards...
words cannot explain how long i was waiting for this :')
Captain's board is absolutely amazing, incredible sound, good work
Captain's Board > Chapman's Board
Man I watch this video over and over again just to hear that "another brick in the wall" jam! AWESOME!
Gary Glitter made a line of pedal boards....he calls it the Pedo-Train.
Haha that's disgusting haha
Wow
over the years, these two guys have increased my knowledge of guitar gear by at least 300%
I wanna know Lee's story at 23:32 XD
It would be great to see an out-takes vidio with all their 'beeped out' stories and such.
Yeah me too!!!!
I've watched this video probably 10 times since it was posted just because it's such an emotional journey to getting a final product. Plus you get a mini demo of a bunch of different pedals!
Here I am again.
It would be awesome if they did another one of these but with the largest pedal train, it would literally be the best video on RUclips haha
I love the faces they make when they hear the tones they like. I've made those faces myself when jamming with my friends. It's just a wonderful feeling when that sound hits you and forces your face into those contortions of ecstasy.
Purple Plexi + Spark = Joy
An orangoutang who is talented in his stuff, an OCD phlegmatic who is boring everybody with all the technical details, the slowest one, and a younger looking guy who usually trusted to do alternative stuff and bring it more to modern era. You are top gear of guitar world.
Lee has the best board...
Agreed but I'd take the flashback over the carbon copy
James Ellis Yeah, i agree although Chappers' delay sound annoys me massively.
I wish they would have found some boutique pedals instead of the same generic crap everyone uses...
trb198330 Fulltone and Wampler are very much 'boutique.'
trb198330 They do demos of LOTS of gear, mostly aimed at the mass market, so it makes sense for them to use readily available fx instead of some uber expensive, super rare boutique things
I would love to see this remade as I'm sure both your tones and techniques have changed right now :D
Still keep the CAE Wah! It's an amazing pedal. I keep mine off my board.
Nice to see a couple of Pro's can get excited about a simple setup that can be built up over time. Good video guys.
An update should be done. But now with a Pedaltrain Nano+! Yeeeei!
I recently got a T.C. Electronic Spark Booster on the recommendation you guys gave it, and because of the sweet sounds in your demos of it. It is, without a doubt, the best clean boost pedal I have ever tried. It really works on almost any rig and sound you want to use it with. Thanks guys! Keep up the awesome work!
23:07 through 23:17 is EPIC!!
+Paul-Jamille Remigio Agree. Not sure why, but the 1981 Heavy Metal movie filled my mind, though the tune they were playing wasn't in it.
Really Great & Wonderful Pedal Boards Here, Guys!! I Loved It Alot!! Big Thumbs Up!!
- Big Will / The Super Blues Universe
Rob, if you want a Wah wich stays in that pedalboard there is the new mini cry baby Wah!!
He has one.
Luca Detto Gus This was in 2014, and the Mini Cry Baby was released in 2015 I believe.
Joshua Kim i know
Michaels Covers yes, i know. i saw it il his sigrature new victory head video
I always come back to this video just to listen to that amazing pink floyd jam in there! love it!
Can we see a final list in the description???
That Pink Floyd cover was perfection
Never put a phase 90 in the loop!!! :) Its like putting a way in the loop
not way wah lol
I always preferred my modulations in the front of the amp. Even choruses and flangers
It all depends on your taste, and how obvious you want the effect to be. I prefer my phaser to be more subtle, just a little bit added in, so I have it slow and in front, EVH style. However, I like my chorus and flangers a bit more obvious, so they're in the loop
Lotus Eater Machine Exactly, most people watching Chappers videos should follow the Eddie technique of having the setting between 8-10 o'clock and in front of the amp for a nice little effect over what you're already doing
got to love your own pedal board, gives your musical self some personality!! love going to gigs with other bands and being able to talk about what different pedals you use on your boards
Best thing about shows, talking rigs with the other openers then standing stage right or left looking at what the national guys use and when and how they wire it etc and if they're really cool get to talk to them about it during load in haha
But even shows I'm not playing I'm always trying to check out the guitarist's board and tell my not guitar playing concert buddy how interesting they use this thing to that thing
22:27 god dammit, its awesome!!
This one of the videos that helped me to decide on my pedalboard build.
0:48 that doink though
Lee knew to put the phase 90 into the front of the amp, kudos to that. To add to that, his chorus is the best pedal in the lot. He knows his stuff.
00:35 "Oh it's a little bit smaller than I thought". That's what she said...... :-)
went out and bought a tc spark and plimsoul because of this, most gnarly tone ive ever gotten! Thanks Chappers and Captain! Best reviews on the youtube!
Around 2:10 flight of the Concords reference.
Kadin G. Foo da fa fa
i came here to comment that
Simply one of the most exciting videos from you guys!
"It's designed to go in the front." ... TWSS?
lol
So happy Chappers digs the full-sized Spark. I agree that it's probably TC's best pedal. It just makes you sound better if you know how to use it, and between the two EQ knobs and three voicing switches, it's got you sorted regardless of your amp or guitar. Brilliant pedal!
17:21 rob the seal
It's about time I updated my pedal board. For the past 14 years it's consisted of (in this order)...
Boss TU-2
Boss DS-1
Boss MT-2
Boss CE-2..... with reverb provided by the amp.
Recent additions are a 1970s Jen Crybaby that I had to rewire to solve an earth fault, and a Bazz Fuss I built myself - collectively my first forays into both electronics and "boutique" pedals. Both these pedals and this pair of videos have convinced me that I need to try something new!
why didn't you get a bigger board? I know you want to keep it simple but no wah ;(
kirk wahammett would be sad
haha :)
Jeroen Verbeeck AMT Japanese Girl Wah would fit on that board, and sound good too!
that's one fine ass wah!, I'd might have to look into that :) thanks
yeah I have one and Its just great, nice jfet driven analog tone, really organic, doesn't fuck with your fuzz. Versatile with the frequency width selector and economically sized, what more could you want!?
One of your best videos. You guys have great charisma together.
Any chance you can add the gear list of each board to description?
You make that guitar sound great Rob! we know that it's the player not only the guitar. But I also think this guitar is a killing machine.
Thanks,
Michel
Do the remake of this with a bigger pedalboard!!!! Pls
this was a GREAT video series because it's perfect for someone just starting out with a giggable pedal board, and I feel like both of those are definitely giggable. Personally I'd have gone a couple different directions from the hosts, but that's because it's all personal.
Thanks for putting that together guys!
WHAT ABOUT ROGER WATERS THO!!!
***** Does anyone know what Lee said about him, when he audio was edited out?
+Aidan Moriarty I'm guessing it was that he's hung like a rather large, quadrupedal, solid-hoofed plant-eating domesticated mammal with a flowing mane and tail, used for riding, racing, and to carry and pull loads. That's just going on general hand movements though.
That pink floyd solo at the end is killer! Specifically the riff at the 23:04 mark. Nice work Rob!
Why don't people make their own pedal boards out of wood like I do? 40 degree board with power strip underneath. Holes drilled to drop all your patch cords under and a door handle mounted to the rear to carry it. Of course all pedals are Velcro to the board after it is stained. I don't get this cheap metal thing they are using that anyone could make?
I stuck all mine on an old Skateboard deck! :D
My first one was an IKEA shelf board, the infamous GORM pedalboard (google it, it's everywhere)^^
THere was just enough space between the wood pieces to stick the cables... just put 4 rubber feet and off you go. I think it retailed for like 12€ or something... dirt cheap.
I ended up with several Pedaltrain in the end though.
I hear you, mine was about $15 dollars to put together. You can get old, odd wood that home depot sells from boards they sawed and cannot use for pennies on the dollar. Left over stain. $4 power strip. You always have screws/glue and tools in the garage. My power supply for all the pedals (1 SPOT, cost more then the pedal board cost, X2). Plus, it was a lot of fun putting it together and is custom for me, so my pedals fit perfectly...
I make my own too - but as well as weight being a consideration, most people aren't very creative this way
How can you live without the most amazing pedals.... fuzz!!! :-)
guitar based reality tv
Happy to see the Captain finally pop his pedal board cherry! :D
What's the point of a power supply? Why not just daisy chain from a 9V adapter? It's probably a stupid question but I've just never really understood it.
***** The simple answer is that daisy chaining creates resistance, and resistance creates buzz, and buzz really fucks with your tone. Isolated power supplies keep the electricity quiet and the signals clean.
*****
Amps! you only get so much. Think of it like this, volts is like the pressure, so if it were water, it would be, well, the pressure of the water that would be moving through the pipe. Amps is like how much water. So your power supply is like the tank. With say the Dunlop DC Brick, you get 2000 amps. Most of your modern pedals will be 9 volt, center negative. Right, SO...now you need to add up the max amps from all the pedals, and if it goes over what your supply can provide, you need another supply. Clear?
More Shops Resistance doesn't create buzz, ground loops create buzz. Usually this occurs between analog and digital pedals. Isolated power supplies have individual transformers for their outputs which eliminate ground loops.
Resistance does come into play when daisy chaining, but it's not a noise issue, it's a current draw issue. If you only have a few pedals, and they're all analog pedals, there's no reason why there would be an issue daisy chaining them together.
Longer wires have more resistance and if all the pedals are using the same power supply, they may start to draw too much current
***** That's not how that works. more resistance doesn't make pedals draw more current. More resistance at the same current means more voltage. V=IR. Even so, the resistivity of power wires at lengths guitar pedal boards use isn't going to drastically affect the voltage supplied to the pedals.
Each pedal draws a certain current at a specific voltage. The summation of these peak current drawings dictate how many amps are required to run things as they were designed.
These videos are always great, informative and not taken overly seriously. Nice job!
Why don't you use the one spot to go with you're bored from visual sound that's what I use on my mini and it works great.
Because the One Spot's outputs aren't regulated or isolated. That's a recipe for noise. I've used a One Spot before, and i didn't realize that A. Some of my pedals weren't getting a consistent voltage, and B. It was creating noise, until I swapped to a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2. It solved all of my problems.
Did not realize that good to know.
Rhop
really - Ive been using a one spot on the pedaltrain mini I dont have noise issues at all - how can you tell if a particular pedal is not getting enough voltage ? is there a test for that cheers
James, the noise issue normally depends on how well the building you're playing in is wired. I've found that the One-Spot picks up a lot of noise in poorly-wired buildings, and the Pedal Power 2 stays dead quiet.
As for the voltage, it's easy; get a multimeter, set it to DCV in the 20V range. Plug in all of your pedals to your power supply, turn them all on, then unplug Just one. Put one contact of your multimeter inside the barrel connector of the power cable, and touch the other contact to the outside of the barrel. You'll get a voltage reading. If the supply is regulated, it'll probably measure about 9V or just a hair under (mine puts out 8.94V; which is just fine). Otherwise you'll probably either get a low reading, or a reading that fluctuates a lot.
Rhop
Hey Thanks for the reply and wise words, Ill try the multi meter thing cheers
Both Lee and Rob sounded awesome. The Purple Plexi and the Carbon Copy really surprised me.
Pedal board updates please.
Discovered you guys through your Epiphone Nighthawk video back when I was looking for my first guitar. Three years later and I'm still watching you guys. The Andertons channel and Chappers' channel are two of the best guitar channels on RUclips
didn't planet waves make patches that were just 2 male connectors connected back to back with no cable?
They're not ideal. Because the jack input locations vary from pedal they put quite a lot of stress on the input & the circuit board when you press the pedal.
The GeorgeL cables seem to be the best option.
You can get off set pedal couplers that aren't just back to back jacks.. They help with input jacks that are in slightly different locations.. They aren't too bad but they can leave the pedals very close together but you could try them they cost about the same as a decent patch cable :)
really I would avoid them... As you press on a pedal it (the whole thing) will move slightly and this will create some stress between the two pedals that are rigidly connected by effectively 1 piece of metal. the pedal connections will start to malfunction pretty soon after.
This is a happy birthday for me now! Thanks guys! Captain Lee your chorus sounds great.
For some reason I really can't stand a chorus sound. It just doesn't sound appealing to me at all. I like phasers and delay, but I just can't stand chorus. Anyone else get this problem?
Chorus is best when you can't hear it, like the effect of double tracked guitars.
Reece113
Yeah, it sounded a little better when they smoothed it out. At the start it was just FAR too dark compared to the amp sounds.
I still have yet to use any effects, though. Only been playing guitar for a year and half, probably time I get a fuzz pedal, I reckon.
80s overdose? ;)
I love chorus! Sorry ;-)
depends on what you need for you sound I like to use two processors on my board im a big fan of delta labs and line 6 I only have two pedals a boss ds1 and a delta labs digital delay
Lol, Rob singing flight of the conchords at 2:10 love these two.
Update?...
The jam session around the 22:00 mark was awesome. great chorus from The Captain too.
I am the best guitarist to ever live. Go buy my mixtape!
+Logan Finn Wow man you are incredible!
+Logan Finn You are crazy good!
+Logan Finn Best mixtape I ever heard everyone buy it!!
Wtf
Droid96 BUY IT I BOUGHT HIS MIXTAPE AND IT WAS SO GOOD
You guys should check the "Cioks Adam"!
Its an isolated flat power supply, and its designed specifically for small boards like the Pedaltrain mini and nano!
Another option is to raise the whole board with ex. taller feet and then you can fit any other Cioks power supply, and i think even your T-Rex!
Great Video and have fun with your boards!
Guys I am a beginner could I ask what type of pedals do I need to get a blues tone through vox ac4 amp, thank you.
The only thing you need to get a blues tone out of an AC4 is the right guitar.
Thx shoes, I have a Fender Telecaster which I'm doing OK with but just wanted to spice stuff up a little that's all, thank you for taking the time to reply, I appreciate that my friend, Paul UK
Well in that case, pedal-wise you should get a good overdrive pedal. Don't go too gainy, just mainly something to boost your mids and sustain for solos. Actually, a TC Spark would work for that.
Hey Shoes, I'll get one tomorrow and see what happens, thank you so much for your time, I do appreciate good advice! take care. Doc.
boss blues driver and a wah
I got goosebumps when you started playing Pink Floyd. Dat tone.
Chappers, sir you are awfully often out of tune :/
Oh my god, that jammin at about 22 mins was incredible.
Great video guys. This pair and your buying Les Pauls video are the best. Excellent advice on buying.
I love the random another brick in the wall part 2!
Fantastic and enjoyable show, the Boss tuner is also a power supply, it is what I use one of my setups, thank for demonstrating and discussing these, I will be trying some for sure,
I need that freaking chorus pedal . Sounds killer when capt lee play that chord and rob start jamming
Phase modulation works great into the front of the amp to my ears
These pedalboards kick ass, thank you for uploading this!
I love how Chappers is like "shut up and take Captain Lee's money!!" through both these videos ;p exciting stuff guys, loved it. Mister Lee, you are an AWESOME boss!
hahaha!! Rob Chapman at 17.21 here, wow i couldn't stop laughing. Had to turn it back a few times to watch it again!! He lost all awareness and literally 'became the pedal'.
By far my fav series! Complete pedalhead! One thing I believe is very much worth mentioning is the power supply...The T-Rex Fuel Tank is legit and costs about $100 USD. HOWEVER, it only puts out max 120mA which may be enough for 'most' pedals, but won't work with plenty of pedals, mooer for example. I couldn't find that info from the retailer I got the Fuel Tank from and ended up having to sadly return it. Make sure you know your pedal's power requirements before committing to a power supply, especially an expensive one! Keep up the fine work boys!
My pedal board is slowly building up. I've got it all in a Behringer PB600 to provide all the power and a great compact way to carry it round. Most of my pedals I've gone for the cheaper stuff that I can afford but still sounds great, got the Korg Pitchblack tuner, got a Boss SD-1, got a great little Rocktronics ultimate drive, a Behringer chorus pedal and a really nice Nux Time Core delay pedal. That is it, cheap and cheerful really
