Mark Five: 25 Info Page: www.mesaboogie....
John Petrucci visited the Mesa Factory in April 2014 before his San Francisco show to hang out. It was also a great day to have John play through an early prototype of the Mark Five 25 for the first time.
We took the fly-on-the-wall approach to capture the experience and got some epic playing from John, some great tones and a bunch of good times with Mesa Founder, Randall Smith, Tone Boy Doug West, and the rest of the Mesa team.
John played through all the various modes and many different settings through a Mini Rectifier 1x12, a Rectifier 1x12 and at the end, a 4x12 Rectifier Standard Slant with Celestion Vintage 30s. He also played with a few different delays (T.C. Electronics G-Major and Jim Dunlop Carbon Copy) in the loop for singing solo tones.
Recorded with the Mark Five: 25, various cabinets (listed above) and a Shure SM57 and a Sennheiser 421.
That guy surely listens to a lot of Dream Theater.
+James Smith :'DDD
+James Smith This... makes sense... ;) John the farmboy, just an ordinary boy who likes dream theater... oh wait...
+James Smith
You mean that John Petr something something guy? Yeah, he's such a DT fanboy
+Felix Blacksher The other top comment was a month ago.. This one was 11 month ago.
+1999beachboy To be perfectly honest here, I actually travelled forward in time to steal the idea from the other top commenter and then went back to post it before him ;-)
Lol the guy in this video only plays Dream Theater songs, doesn't he know anything else?
Ha! +Ferretclaw444 - That's awesome. :D
+Ferretclaw444 I really really hope this is sarcasm lol
+Ferretclaw444 He is not so bad. At least, he knows few Metallica's riffs:)
+Ferretclaw444 he is the guitar player of DT, not Allan partson project or something, obviously he plays his own songs, and not many people can play them!!!
+bballgod237 Haha ofc
this is probably the best demo/showcase of an amp of any brand I have seen.... unrehearsed, dynamic and honest....
Thanks!JAFOpty - Glad you saw it like that. This is how it went down and John is the best! :D
***** well, JP is not going to play djent or polka, because that is not what he plays. He is just looking for his tone. Ola is great too, he has tons of boogie stuff...
***** awesome, regards.
***** I don't think Ola's demos are better at all. When most guitarists try out an amp, they look for tones that compliment their playing. And when you're showcasing a product for potential buyers, you want it to sound the best you can make it sound. No player can make every amp sound good. The worse is when an demo players says "x amp has a great y tone" and then attempts to show it by playing poorly in that style. It just doesn't sound good and it doesn't benefit anyone. Ola's a great metal player so his demos are practically all metal. Some of the amps he tries can do so much more than metal but he doesn't venture there because he knows his audience and what they're looking for in an amp. Every good demo player knows this. Turning every knob and switch doesn't make an amp sound good. Who cares what an amp sounds like with the bass turned all the way up or with the boost turned on. Hearing 3 great tones from an amp is better than hearing 10 good tones or 100 mediocre tones. Great tones sells gear the most because that's what people are really looking for.
Petrucci playing tones similar to what he uses on stage and in the studio is displaying a lot. He gets great tone there and he's getting it here on a much smaller, less expensive amp. A Mark V costs $2250 and he's showing he can get similar tones from a $1300 amp. He seems really impressed and it appears that he's having a great time playing this amp. I wasn't interested in a Mark Five 25 until this video.
All GREAT points, JELIFISH19 - thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts... and thanks for the kind words! All the best.
This video is like, pornography for guitarists
I didnt want to like since it's on 69
"Can I use this tonight?" the amp maker must be proud.
Man, I should be practicing...
and saving money...maybe?
Wow - that is a monster sounding amp. Chappers & I have a video going up on this amp soon - we both really liked it, but I'm not sure we sounded as good as Petrucci does!! Must be something in the fingers!!!
I'm glad to hear you guys have a video on this one going up soon!
I didn't expect to see you here, Lee! You're awesome.
Lee, there is no shame in getting blown out by Petrucci :D
Well.....it's is Lord Petrucci.....no shame in coming in second to a God. lol Cheers Lee!
Cant wait for your vid
i'll trade my studio pre, mini rec, caliber 50. marshall jcm 900 and tubescreamer for this monster!!!!! damn!!
The marriage between engineer and musician...
I think that's illegal here in Virginia
If only they would stop messing with the controls while you're playing!
Legal in Alabama
I own this amp and can't say enough good things about it. When I first got it, it sounds ehh not so good. I learned how use it(Mesa learning curve), and I still wasn't happy. Contacted Mesa and resolved the issue in 30 minutes..had a preamp tube that wasn't seated well from shipping. Now it blows me away. It really does sound this awesome..but you won't because you're not John Petrucci.
Power tube*. The preamp tubes have a spring loaded casing on them. They aren't going anywhere.
Glad to hear we got it sorted, +Chris A :) Thanks for the kind words and let us know if anything else comes up!
Is it good for bedroom volumes?
@@PandaSharpener You can get some nice meaty tones at very reasonable volumes but don't let the size of the amp or the mere 25 watt rating fool you. This feisty little bastard feels as loud as an old Marshall 50 watt Super Lead when you get the master past 2 oclock. To get the best of it you do need to get the master up past 11oclock (IMHO) but at lower volumes it's still fantastic.
I hear the 35W version is a little more versatile and in 25W mode has a bit more spank to it due to the bigger transformer. It also has the 'solo' (alternate master volume) feature and bigger switch/pedal. If you're thinking of gigging the 25W will keep up with a hard hitting drummer but 35W will give you a bit more headroom to spare.
I love that John is still one of the most down to earth and friendly guitar players out there, despite his enormous success. :)
It's true +Tom Moulton! Thanks for watching!
indeed he is successful, and well known and we all admire him, but he really is not well known besides guitar nerds really. I think that makes him humble.
That's it! The best demo of this amp so far. Anyone who doesn't want this amp after hearing this is deaf.
Ha!Stephen Drake - John played some really great, unique stuff throughout the video. Thanks for the kind words! :D
Concise and straight and true.
True haha, I actually went and priced it after this video. I think the JVM205 still might be higher on my priorities of gear list. But this is close to the top now!
Line6 Spider still has more options SMH...lol
Or poor.
Thanks for miking this properly and not just using camera sound! My Mark V 25 arrived last week and it sounds as good as the video makes it out to sound.
Thanks,Aunt Jemima - a bit of work to duck back and forth between the talking audio and the playing audio but well worth it. Glad you dig!
Oh, I've seen a video by young man, who have Bugera stack (and LTD M1000), but it sounds worse than Zoom 505, this is different case)
Curious - why did you pick V:25 instead of V:35?
@@lucwilson1 for bedroom usage?
Gorgeous guitar tone! John rules!!
Nick Johnston really digging your new Mesa demo though !
no u
Who will be the 666th comment on this video. Oh wait... This is it. :D
Haha you jokers! 😅
MESA/Boogie do you have as n offering for poor musicians?
What the hell kind of pickups is he using?!?!?!........I’ve got an Ibanez with a pretty hot DiMarzio Fred in the bridge and it doesn’t get half the drive and punch that he’s getting. I’m going through the
MarkV:35 with the exact same settings. What the hell am I doin’ wrong? 🤔
Kevin Barefoot He uses DiMarzio Sonic Ecstasy pickups, they've been his favourite pickups for years.
Then it wont be hand wired, made in USA, cabinets will be made of MDF, speakers will be chinese made using chinese glue etc.. Are you sure you want that? Do you seriously think it will be the same? For Mesa to risk tainting its hard earnt reputation and quality assurance for the sake of poor musicians? The higher price makes it more exclusive but at the end of the day you get what you pay for (give or take used, discount sales and special deals). The tone really is in your fingers, but also in your pocket too.
Having designed my own tube amps and hearing how polished the crunch/lead tones are in that tiny amp made me realize how much dedication and passion is behind it. Anyone can put pieces together and make an amp "sound" like those companies that clone designs but not many can just take it to the next level. Its just like cooking, everyone might know how to cook but only a few can make it taste awesome.
Thanks for the VERY kind words, Alvaro Salinas- Very much appreciated by us and we remain committed to making the best amp's we possibly can and taking care of our customers like we, ourselves, would like to be cared for when purchasing musical instruments. Thanks for taking the time to write such an awesome comment! :DAlvaro Salinas
it is fortunate that they have such a great player to demonstrate the tones, because he knows EXACTLY how to use EACH tone AND he is a virtuoso! Everything in the tones they demo sounds GREAT. And I have no doubt Petrucci adds to it.
Thanks,Jared Szczesny - Appreciate the kind words and we agree! :D
yeah man.no OLA at all
I met John on the Images and Words tour in 1992. He's still the same down-to-earth, personable guy today. With all of his abilities, accolades and achievements, he could've had his ego grow to unbearable proportions, but he remains Johnny Cool and one of the most incredible guitarists to ever pick up the instrument. Freakin' love the guy!!
Agree, Crush Everything - Great guy and one of the best around. We love John too! :D
I wonder how many mark 5 25 heads this video has sold? I know between this video and the andy timmons video I bought one without even trying it out first.
Awesome, +Brian Jewell ! Thanks for the kind words and thanks for your support. Hope the Mark Five: 25 is serving you well! :D
Congrats,*****- Hope it is exceeding your expectations and let us know if you have any questions or there's anything we can help with! :D
+planetgas it's awesome isn't it. .for me it's a perfect amp.
Mesa Boogie writes to RUclipsr...RUclipsr responds to "other guy..." love it.
Science Fiction you overestimated a little bit it’s actually 1600
John is like a kid in a candy store. You just can't get enough of hearing him playing guitar.
7:22 my god!!!... that chicken pickin' from hell
Petrucci - that's Italian for God.
Metallica riff !!! I've never understood why Mesa as never done a James Hetfield mark amp signature. As they did with John pettrucci... Maybe one day... who knows
They use Axe FX live now
You'd need a signature rack. John is more of an amp guy rather than James who uses the tight response as a rhythm weapon, using multiple amps to layer the tone to get 'that' crushing wall of sound.
The "... And Justice" series rack dual Mark 2C+ with Aphex parametric EQ's and a fridge size stack of other gear. The black album rig was similar I believe.
No justice for the poor b'stard UPS guy that has to try and get it up the driveway and onto the front porch for delivery. :P
It’s probably that James doesn’t want a signature amp. And if it ever did happen there’s not a lot they could do with it that wouldn’t just be a Mark IV or a IIC+ with his name slapped in it
@@andy_stinson If you went after the "Puppets" Mark IIC++ slaved into a Marshall, there is absolutely a lot you could with it.
James was into a lot of different amplifiers and brands since the mid 90s - Diezel, Wizard and so on. But I doubt he'll make a signature amp since nowadays he and Kirk don't even use tube amps anymore, only those crappy Axe Fx preamps with solid state power amps.
2:13 Guy in background: Damn famous guitarists coming in here disturbing me with their awesome tone.. fml.
Its the recording guy....
I'm really into Mark IIC+/IV tones, but the the channel 1 crunch playthrough is the part of the video that really blows me away
Crunch is definitely gold! Thanks for the kind words, Mattia!
Plays Master of Puppets incorrectly...Can because he's a guitar God.
This is my first boggie amp, and I'm still (after months of have it) completely blown away... The clean, the massive gain, the size, the definition you get.. wow... I've never have a better tone in my life ... running with a 1x12 recto cab sounds totally killer!! Now I need to learn how to play better! :D
This is AWESOME, +A. Morant! Congrats and thanks so much for the kind words. These are the kind of stories we love to hear and exactly why we do what we do. Here's to getting more and new tones from your rig for ther next decade or longer. Cheers! :D
I wish I could afford that amp...
@@MrLennonson I still have the same amp,.. .it worth every penny ;)
I also have the same amp. Do you find that when you play harder or with a bit spirit the amp responds and sounds better? I know they're called amplifiers but I get the feeling that this little beast amplifies what (and how) you play rather in a unique way than just giving you 'that sound' like most amps do. It's like magic in a lunchbox.
@@Swampster70 yes! Its fast and full responsive to everything you do. Nowadays, the mor straigth(almost no efects, delay, boost and wah) to the amp, the better 🙌
Ryan Doubblestein - Yes! That whole section is John playing through a Recto 4x12 Standard Slant. Thanks for watching! :D
MESA/Boogie what about 3:50?
Mike Farrah - they switch to the 4x12 at around 12:33. Pretty sure up to that point it was all through the 1x12 (slant mini @ 3:52 like you point out), then a different 1x12 at 7:18 ??
That is ridiculous for a 25 watt amp.
Thanks,capoman1
MESA/Boogie how much is it anyway?
Hi XpSAN - please contact your nearest dealer or distributor for pricing and availabilty: mesaboogie.com/support/locations.html
capoman1 I had the mini rectifier and for a 25w amp, they're loud as hell and the good thing is that they keep the "original" tone from their bigger brothers. At least that's why I changed my dual rectifier for a mini recto.
Hi +Oliver Ramos -
Unfortunately, you'll have to wait for the relative closeup shots in the video to get an ideas of the settings as they change frequently throughout the video. Most of the sounds will offer a point in the video where you can make out the settings. Stop the video and blow up to full screen and you should be able to see the settings. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
What is really awesome about this vid is we get to hear a quasi-Mark I tone hidden in the clean channel and just how nut bustin' the crunch mode can be.
I can see now every superlative thrown at this lil over achiever is far from hyperbole
Thanks,Kelly Jackson - We were blown away with the Crunch Channel as well. Kinda almost stole the show in this vid under John's hands. Lead sounds still have the silky, sustain-y Boogie thing though. ;)
MESA/Boogie!I really like the way the mesa boogie shows the development and testing of their products !!
ABT V oh, tell me, what do they amiss, if you've found it?)
This should be a show: tube geeks and rock gods test new amps.
I bought one and my tone quest is OVER!!!! Fantastic bit of kit, so happy. Thanks guys
AWESOME,Piston Stone ! So glad you're diggin' it and thanks for the kind words. Thank YOU! :D
One does not simply end their tone quest
Im saving for a new smallish amp...was looking at the ENGL Ironball.. but this looks killer!
Want! Now!
That Crunch channel should be called "KRUNCH" Channel.
How on EARTH does that thing breathe out some Fiery Dragon breath
it was blessed by the Khaleesi
Awesome amp man I bought one about six months ago and honestly I'm still finding amazing tones
This was a really cool demo. It's great to see the kid in a candy store look on Johns face as he was playing and the sense of pride Randall showed demonstrating his baby. I love my Mark V but this amp sounds incredible.
Love this keep up the great videos! Would be sweet to see a more indeep video with the Lonestar Special perhaps with Andy Timmons :D !!!
Stand by, +Alex Alexander
- You'll be pleased with what's coming next! :D Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching.
Anyone else giggle when he said, "that's a tight box"?
+steeldragonjovi I was hoping I wasn't the only one who picked up on that!
I did now :D
Maybe...hahaha
That's so cool he was a huge part of the R&D. He has become Mr. Mesa Boogie these days.
I love how Randall and Doug looks super excited demoing this amp, you can tell that they're proud of this product, i just got mine on friday with the recto 1x12 slanted cab and been rocking the hell out of it, i spend a couple of hours messing with the knobs and was so pleased with the tones i could dial... until i hit that EQ and was completely blown away!, seriously i couldn't be more happy with this amp, the IIC+ mode alone is worth the money, this is my first Mesa but i'm now a believer, you got a costumer for life.
Hi Pana - WOW - thank you so much for the kind words and so glad you're finding so much success with this mini rig. Hopefully you'll be dragging new tones out of the modes and channels for years to come - that's what we hope to design in everything we make! And thanks for noticing the enthusiasm with Doug & Randy. This video represents a great day with John and discovering the Mark Five: 25 as well as getting some final confirmation on the tone right from the man himself, weeks before they started shipping. Thanks again and rock on!
12:58 That put a smile on my face :D
I'm a simple man...When I hear Pull Me Under, I hit the Like button.
I played not that many different Amp brands; Mesa, Marshall, Laney, Blackstar, Fender, Bugera and some other brands.
But Mesa ... oh my god, sounded totally freakin awesome :O
Thanks so much for the kind words, +Martin Bohl ! Very much appreciated. Keep on rockin'! :)
thank you Mr. Mesa Boogie ...
by the way, Im looking for a job. I live in germany, bachelor of engineering (electrical engineering / automation) 4 years work experience, can entertain and do presentations.
I was one year in New Zealand, so my english is not that much shitty, now Iam back...
I played on a Mesa Single Rec. at an hourly studio and I was seriously blown away. They know what they're doing; if I weren't such a huge Peavey nut Mesa would be my go to brand.
Damn you Mesa! How am I supposed to eat now?
:DBillo1281 - Thanks for the kind words!
that's one hell of a crunch mode, with that no need for the extreme or anything for that matter :)
That's massive!
Thanks, +emrebozkurt800 - Such a great mode to play!
Honestly, the sound of this amp is nothing surprising to me. It is after all, a Mesa Boogie. We've come to expect nothing less than tonal nirvana from Mesa Boogie...especially with JP at the other end of the guitar cable. But what REALLY intrigues me about this demo is that even the pros like Petrucci can pull a boneheaded maneuver like forgetting to plug the cable into the jack!! LOL!! Priceless! I have just heard my next amp!
9:20 That, my friend, is djent.
the majesty has an active internal boost, and that makes a whole lot of difference when saturating a tube amp. They should have said if the boost was on or not
Good point, josé andrés Yanes - Except there was no way for us to keep track of when John was switching it on and off and I don't think John was 'keeping track' either. He does make a point of showing it on and off at one point in the video but he also does a fair amount of riding the volume control up and down as well - impossible for us to list all of the variations. That said, the amp is the amp and John is John - the rest is up to the player and their own musical preferences, right? Thanks for watching! :D
Hi +Reign Worldwide - This is the impossible question to answer because there are so many variables outside of the amp's potential to be loud. How loud is loud? How loud is your drummer? What cab are you playing through? What kind of music? So many variables... It's best if you can try it out yourself with the cab you plan to use it with to be sure. The Mark Five 25 is NOT quiet, that's for sure! It's loud enough to likely pull off any gig where you would have reinforcement from a monitor system, and especially if you're playing through a 2x12 or maybe two 1x12 cabs. Probably plenty loud in most cases, but you should try it out. The Mark V would be a better choice if you knew your band played very loud and have a loud drummer, and you gigged consistently. Hope this helps!
what a cool amp,and the price is even better ,giving the little guys a chance to use a profesional guitar amp. thank you Boogie.
It is an awesome amplifier. Unfortunately, really expensive in Brazil.
+Amaral I think it's just expensive in general haha
Believe it or not, us Americans get a major break when it comes to Mesas.
+tymongoji mesa/boogie is an american company we don't have to go through customs bullshit and all that extra crap to get them. you can get a JCM800 in england for like 800 bucks cheaper than it costs here. and that's not including sales tax cuz british people are polite about that shit n actually just tell you how much something costs lol.
That tone is godly. True ingenuity instead of churning the same amps over and over. A traight I enjoy about Mesa. Great job guys
Thanks for the exceptionally kind words,NinjaTuna81. Very much appreciated!
MESA/Boogie awesomeeee demo!
thankd gor sharing
Johns tech is like "oh great, now I've gotta set up an entirely new guitar rig by tonight damn!!" Still love my 3, but this thing sounds unreal! Another killer amp, nice work Mesa.
So, basically, if I buy one of these when they come out, I'll sound like Petrucci? I'm in.
Even a guitar god like petrucci becomew that child in the candy store once in a while... haha. awesome tone!! \m/
A must watch for every guitar player beyond genre boundaries!
Thanks for the kind words, +TheWuuuuh. So great to watch John in this environment just checking out a piece of gear. thanks for watching! :)
just sold my 6505+ for one of these. the tone is stunning! running it through a 2x12 recto cab, and i couldnt be happier
Congrats, +no no no - hope the amp is exceeding your expectations! :)
I'm impressed that 59 deaf, dumb and blind people managed to leave a dislike?
Ha!KILLBILDERBURG - or, maybe 19 people just 'accidentally' hit the dislike button? :D
Cheers mate - superb video 👍
This amp never ceases to amaze me, Petrucci's tones here sound like right off the records!
Great demo! Those guy at Mesa really know how to pack vast amounts of tone into small packages. Its great how they got all the best sounds from the Mark V, eliminated some of the less useful features, brought it all down to a more manageable wattage but still kept all the wondrous tone!!!!! The guys at Mesa Boogie rock!!!!!
Thanks a bunch, Liam Pellerin - Appreciate the kind words!
There's something really inspiring about a bunch of people just sitting around doing what they love, and having a blast.
His blues is surprisingly good. You can hear that british influence.
I Love the fact he quotes Metallica. What a bad ass Player!!! That tone is incredible!
This is why $3,000 (w/footswitch) Modelers will not take over. It's got 6 modes 25w/10w switching on each channel, sounds great through a 1x12 and costs $1300. It's made in the USA, if it messes up, you know where to send it. Not someplace in the orient.
+Fred Garvin the axe fx is exactly that amount so i assume youa re talking about that. Axe fx is made in usa. 100% USA. Axe fx 2 + tube power amp and you've got all the tones you could ever want. With that in mind. I still want this thing. lol
God I love Mesa/Boogie. Great products, great service, and great tone. The best of the best and made in the USA
Fuck, JP actually looks like Julian from Trailer Park Boys with a bit more hair.
"its like this shouldnt be possible..." john says. Well John, thats how I feel about 90% of everything you play so...
Thanks alot for this video! Sounds ridiculous i.e. amazing...
Who is the guy in the light blue shirt? He seems like he is really into amps!
Looks really immersed in this.
Guitarded_ 5150 he's a lead engineer at Mesa. Check out a recent tone lounge video
Doug west...he is the man at boogie if you have amp questions
I'm so glad I could listen to the greatness of John Petrucci and the technology Mesa has to offer through my crappy laptop speakers.
Hahahahahahstedeo - Very funny, sir! :D Headphones an option?
I just bought a different amp that I had wanted for a while, and you guys come up with this beast.
I guess I'll be filing for bankruptcy this fiscal year.
i love this video.... i got my MarkV25, Thanks MESA for this perfect little monster!
It sounds TREMENDOUS. I've ever loved the Mark sound, and in the near future I would have the chance to buy one. Now I'm really happy with my 1986 Mesa QUAD, no poweramp, unfortunately, but I connect it to the return of my Rockerverb 50 with a pedal that works like a master volume. great tone, massive, thick, big, clear as I want. Every time Mesa makes me happy to have tried their amps and still use..real love :-)
Should've never left Mesa..
I ended up trading my Kemper in for the Mark V:25, i have no regrets. There's no emulating this amp! Ironically enough, it was playing the profiled Mesa that made me want the real thing.
Awesome, +michael mclaughlin ! Thanks for the kind words and glad you're digging the Mark Five: 25! Thank you. :)
It's such a fantastic amp, i'm really enjoying it.
Loved How Humble This Man!...
"that thing sounds ridiculous" - Petrucci, John, 2014. Best way to describe this amp.
Finally a unbelievable good sounding amp that could be affordable for me too ! :D
I have never heard a better sounding amp than this love it so much has officially became my dream amp I must have one :) I will certainly be adding it to my studio once we are all set up and on the go :)
Would LOVE to hear how the amp handles a seven string.
4:03 "That's a tight box" lol
Another tip: Some of the best tones for recording rock guitar solos are found on channel 1 in the crunch mode on this amp ...resist the urge to jump to channel 2 for soloing when recording. Sure, live I jump to channel 2 when playing solos and peel some faces!....but in the studio, channel 1 crunch with the gain set past noon has an amazing solo tone with more clarity and definition than channel 2, while still being plenty heavy. Unless you are a metal guy/girl, stick with channel 1 for recording.
I'm seriously considering trading my Kemper in for one of these.
I've just brought a majesty today mate getting it on Wednesday wouldn't mind this amp either
Cool to see that the guys who are working are massive gear nerds like the rest of us! Nothing like passion, and it definitely shows when you play a Mesa Boogie!
Wow that was some of the best playing I've heard Petrucci do in a while. DT stuff aside, the candid bluesy stuff is epic!!
Nice,James Russo - we loved that stuff too!
"You can recognize Marshall distortion in an instant; that's why I shied away from that and went with MESA/Boogies." ---- James Hetfield aka The riffmaster
Oh no, this is like the 2048028430483rd dream Mesa amp to GAS for now. But seriously, this is a game changer. I really cannot wait to try one out. That tone is golden.
Thanks,15viceandvirtues - Really appreciate it!
MESA, I played one of these yesterday and was VERY impressed. The only reason I would take the time to make a comment to help some big company with lots of money is because IT IS VERY VERY RARE to find a high gain amp that has a lead tone that is NOT GRITTY OR FUZZY. Great job offering a more affordable alternative to soldano (which do not have a clean lead tone until you ditch the Eminence speakers and warm up the bias).
You can send me one of these if you want me to endorse it or do a youtube review. :P
What are the dimension of the 1x12 box that Petrucci likes the sound of?
I had soldano make me a closed-back version of the astroverb 1x12 combo (just a bigger rear panel) and it sounds boxy and gross just like the standard combo does (so I run through a 2x12 instead).
My guitar teacher told me about this amp and after this video i want to buy it!
jg z Your guitar teacher is AWESOME! :D
MESA/Boogie yeah he's a great player
When he's talking about that tight metallic Palm mute. It's called djent.
+Timothy Mariani xD
I just found out how great the speakers are in my cheap lil chrome book wow
i was a Marshall devotee for years until i tried a mesa myself and explored it thoroughly
and i can safely say now they sing like angels and have unduplicatable tones, meaning
"no other amp does what a mesa does"
and it does it very, very well.
Many thanks, trillriff-axegrinder - Very much appreciate the kind words!
I'm an English guy that moved to California but my love for Marshall didn't die. What I got from the EL84's in Mark II+ mode, when I'm in a practice room otherwise the neighbors would definitely call the cops, is when the master volume goes past 1 o'clock you get that Michael Schenker on "One Night at Budokan" lead tone. The saturation is just so nice and full. You can replicate it at lower volume levels in Mark IV mode but getting the power tubes working is always a treat.
The one and only thing I don't like about this amp is simple. It is way, way louder than a 25 watt amp should ever be. Great if you're gigging in small places, if you buy it to crank it at home you're kinda screwed. LOL. But it does sound great without the power stage being driven! It packs as much punch as my old Marshall Super Lead 50w head and those ain't exactly quiet for their 50 watt rating. In fact, the Mark V 25 did the Super Lead thing so well that I sold my Marshall. Mini EL's for the win!
I know right! Selling my Marshall JCM2000 TSL100 and Orange Dark terror for one of these and a rectifier 2x13 cab.
I've tried it with other cabs but nothing compares to the Mesa cab
Those are some of the best guitar tones I've heard in my life out of an amp. Oh well... happens every time I hear a Mesa.
Hi ***** - Both the Mini Rectfiier and the Mark Five: 25 interface equally well with FX. No problems there, whatsoever. If you play mainly haeavy/rock/metal styles, you might like the Mini Rectifier for ease of plugging in and just having ROCK on hand. The Mark Five: 25 can rock as well - just have to find your favorite setting/sound which takes a minute but some people like to search for their sound a little bit... Can't lose either way! Thanks for watching :D
why he don't use guitar rig 5 instead?
I love that amp Never getting rid of mine
He easily sold it...
Love the Mark Five: 25!!! Great demo, also checked it out on your website and at a local music store. This has to be the best amplifier Mesa's put out in a very long time, for my tastes anyway. Hope I can get one in the not too distant future.
I've had this amp for two weeks. I predict this will be the best selling amp Mesa Boogie has ever made. I play styles ranging from Jazz chord melody, Latin,Funk, Blues, Rock and Pop. I will use this amp on any gig and deliver authentic sounds from roots to high tech. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
Thanks for the kind words,Larry Knight - Glad your finding as much versatility as we thought people might. Thanks so much!
11:41 Like the IV mode better then have mesa boogie created his signature iic+ a year later.. XD
Yea, because that's a Mk V25, IIC+ mode isn't the real deal on it and the IV mode sounded better, but ask him to choose between a REAL Mk IV and a REAL Mk IIC+ and... well yea he made his own IIC+ so..
IMHO, this video is even better than the actual demo video. It makes think about selling my Mark IV combo and getting this lunch box, because you know, combos are a pain in the ass when you travel.
Juan José Fonseca Godoy I'm thinking about selling my MK IV Combo for this too.
***** the only bad thing about the Mk IV combo is the size and the weight of it
Juan José Fonseca Godoy True, that would be the reason I want to replace it. Although, I think I'd just prefer switching to a MKIV head for the same price as the V 25. I would be running through a torpedo live so noise level doesn't really matter to me.

Nice! That's going to be a more portable rig!

The mark 5:25 is not even close to the full size. Funny enough, the 5:25 sounds way better
