Agreed all I see online with Petrucci is all class no attitude and just fun to listen too the guy could be your cool School teacher he does not have that Dbag Metal tough guy persona.
Silly cynical logic, being humble isn't always locked in people's DNA, it's still something worthwhile to be noted and respected no matter how often you see the trait. "He loves his son with all his heart" "So he should" @@OmarDavidPerez
Most people have such a bad sense of timing, it's really peculiar. Maybe we're all just biased because 4/4 is so easy, but goddamn; get it together, humanity xD
Watching prog fans try to headbang during a concert is hilarious. Some people have no sense of tempo at all, it's hard to listen or see that. Any prog artist I like, I've listened to their songs enough to analyze any change up. You would think that every prog fan would do the same, considering how difficult prog is to play. Don't meet anyone that loves prog but doesn't play any instruments.
I find acoustic guitar so much easier to play tastefully than any electric guitar. I started playing on acoustic and have mostly played acoustic over the years. It's something I'll have to work on over time, the electric is amazing for access to highest frets, legato, sweeps and so forth.
That formula didn't work after Portnoy gone.. No questions about that Petrucci is my most favourite guitarist.. But DT as a band is shit now.. Portnoy was the guy whose playing could cover over all the instruments..
I think it is very cool how humble as a big name, John Petrucci is among his fans and such. He is patient, not condescending, takes everyone serious, shares his knowledge and facilitates himself well. Lately I have become a bigger fan every-time I have come across this guy. Been thinking about getting the Music Man Majesty Artisan Guitar : ) Cheers !!
why do people bombard like this? he comes out and immediately "over here john!", "I love dream theater john, thank youuu" "hey john, let's have a meaningful conversation!" applause is awesome...every musician loves it...but let the guy catch his breath...have some pride for fucksake
The problem is that people feel like they're competing for his attention, and this is when people get weird/inconsiderate. In small settings, it's not hard to get your questions answered, but realistically not everyone there will get attention from him so they get desperate. Hence why they don't do "hang out" meet and greets anymore like many other "less popular" bands do.
He reminds me of someone’s cool older brother. Nice dude. One of the sickest guitar players out there. Dream theater is hit and miss for me but I seriously respect petrucci. The guy has put the work in and is at that level where everything seems easy.
awesomeness. was at this workshop also and recorded only his songs. so much for guitar center telling us to not record and take pictures. screw authority! thanks!
Is it negative to be a fanboy who admire their favourite guitar player???that's the reason they show up to support Petrucci....I'm proud to be a fanboy myself in things / hobbies I like for instance; Star Wars, Heavy metal music, Warhammer and loads of stuff, that I enjoy to do in my spare time ;) and nerd it!
u're right i've never seen any musician like him.he just don't have any pride for who he is,very polite n humble.he doesn't even use the rough words such as 'fucking', 'shit', 'hell' cause he is man of god...
his style? He and Jordan Rudess (the keyboardist for DT) did a one night only concert called "A night with Jordan Rudess and John Petrucci" where they played instrumentals. I think that between LTE, DT and this album its awfully hard to find a "style" he doesn't cover....
Too many players think sweeping is the be all and end all. It isn't! It can be a very 'boxed in' technique.Vibrato is 'the' most important technique and it doesn't matter how fast or slow you can play. If your vibrato ain't down you ain't shit!
I didnt say they werent important I said vibrato is the most important. No matter what techniques you have ( or havent) in your arsenal vibrato is the one that separates the men from the gods. This is so taken for granted these days and the reason a lot of modern shredders sound like robots (Pettrucci obviously does not fall into this category). Too many people focus on the advanced techniques. All the 80's shredders had killer vibrato (yngwie, gilbert, howe, lynch)
Ian Guest I agree with you. I know this great shredder, but his vibrato just sounds amateurish, which makes his entire playing sounds shitty. If someone plays a easy solo, but with solid vibrato it will still sound amazing. It's always the same too haha, they move their entire hand instead of this fluid motion
went to a clinic of his one time at a GC years ago, and our guitarist raises his hand to ask a question and John goes "yea go ahead" and my guitarist asks jokingly, "is it true than when you play a million notes per second people die?" everyone starts laughing right? Petrucci without skipping a beat laughs and responds "I don't know, no ones ever lived to tell about it" and we all started cracking up hahahahahah
carlosjb2002 what i can remember is that he said, if you have your guitar set up how it supposed to be (professionally).. its going to hold the tune very well..
The majesty really grew on me, so glad I haven't spent my savings on ibanez. I've actually saved enough to get this but I'm torn between my teenage dream guitar. Custom shop BC Rich warlock 7.
Great video quality! I wish whoever was filming was able to get a board feed for the audio. He’s one of the cleanest players out there. The audio definitely doesn’t do it justice the way I’m sure it sounded being there. Still very appreciative for the post. 🤘🏼
17:10 does any body else noticed that his guitar strap is like... different? like a backpack front strap (sorry for the bad english, i'm brazillian, but i think you'll get what i wanna say)

There is like 170 time changes in that one song, it's hard to keep in time when playing it all at once in one take. He's said many times he records in sections, not the whole song at once.
He says that MusicMan was willing to do a 7 string version (meaning the prior company was not willing?). He had a 7 string Ibanez. Does he mean that Ibanez didn't want to sell a JP signature 7 string to the public? I've read that Ibanez didn't want to give him piezo either, but there are Ibanez picasso guitars with piezo. He had a custom one that was fixed bridge (6 string) with piezo. He used it to record Home.
Probably one of the nicest guys in metal, and one of the most humble as well. It's impossible to hate the guy.
Totally agree with you! I never heard him said a bad words or else! Very great man!
+Refan Jansen I don't know dude I heard him bury Paul Gilbert in a lesson video. Oh wait that was a parody video. LOL!
so true, just great example that you can be a "nerd nice guy" and metal af
SlickEnz you cant hate dream theater members 😁
Agreed all I see online with Petrucci is all class no attitude and just fun to listen too the guy could be your cool School teacher he does not have that Dbag Metal tough guy persona.
So crazy to see such humility from such an elite musician.
why would he not be? it's the other guys' problem not to be humble, this is a simple dude
Silly cynical logic, being humble isn't always locked in people's DNA, it's still something worthwhile to be noted and respected no matter how often you see the trait. "He loves his son with all his heart" "So he should" @@OmarDavidPerez

He is way too humble... He deserves what he is today... XD
Dude XS well said man
Dude XS I met him at his guitar camp, and when I told him he was my idol and inspired me to play guitar he seemed surprised was like, oh wow, cool
John talks like a father, like a patient father talking to his kids, y'know?
He's bigger than the Portnoy's drum kit.
That formula didn't work after Portnoy gone.. No questions about that Petrucci is my most favourite guitarist.. But DT as a band is shit now.. Portnoy was the guy whose playing could cover over all the instruments..
Well, yeah
can we talk about how perfect that pinch harmonic was at 24:08 lol
the guitar is afraid to fail
jesus hard rock hahahahah
With those arms anything there is afraid to fail
4:54 John: *Plays a note
Crowd: *"WOOOOOO"*
Not even a note, he just turned up the volume of the guitar 😂
nice guitar Hagrid
Hagrid: Oh thanks Voldemort

How does he fit his arms through the shirt?
Tomé Silva His shirts fit around his arms not the other way around.
+Tomé Silva I think they have to make the shirt around him.
Y'all are crazy he ain't that big. He's built but he's not excessively lol
Richard Martinez - I can't hear you over the sound of JP's biceps.
+Yakushii haha get outa here. Giving him too much credit lol
I've so many times heard the dance of eternity. but every time I hear he's playing the dance of eternity I always get a goosebumps.
John Petrucci's secret to maintaining big arms at an old age? we think he lifts in 7/4
Old age? He's in his 40s in this video...
He’s not really old
hes not old
Wow.. to be fans of Dream Theater/ John Petrucci and they can't keep a beat xD
As great as a guitar player he is, you can tell he's an ever greater guy. So refreshing to have a legit rockstar to just be such a great guy!
Children, this is a god
You can actually study human anatomy seeing him play.
On his left arm you can clearly see all the nerves and muscles contracting and relaxing.
Y'know..... he seems like the guy that would help ya move and, supply the truck.
+T Crane lololol
+T Crane
Or maybe wouldn't even need a truck.
He'd just carry all the stuff himself.
lol @ the crowd trying to clap along with the Dance of Eternity. Instant fail.
Blake Williams They hadn't even gotten to the difficult bit yet! 😂
Still 4/4 lol
Porn
A room filled with musicians and they can’t clap in time. Fucking pathetic.
He is such a nice, polite guy
JOHN IS REALLY MASTER OF ETERNITY-PLAYER!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHN !!!
(born on July 12 1967)
When that kid shouted out, Petrucci looked so creeped out XD
Darrell Knight i saw this video like 7 months ago and i still cringe t the start

Abba235xx ty dude
And he looks annoyed af after the kid's shout 😂
hey don't insult me!! I was only a little kid and I was stupid to shout out
One of the best covers I've heard. Good job, random guitar dude!
He reminds me of someone’s cool older brother. Nice dude. One of the sickest guitar players out there. Dream theater is hit and miss for me but I seriously respect petrucci. The guy has put the work in and is at that level where everything seems easy.
Thanks for this awesome footage ! What a nice guy, Petrucci forever !
Liked before watching because how could this not be epic
awesomeness. was at this workshop also and recorded only his songs. so much for guitar center telling us to not record and take pictures. screw authority! thanks!
I would love to know how many times he had been asked to impersonate adam02 like in the dvd
Fanboyism through the roof
Fucking annoying.

PowerVoltaire please come back when you know what beeing a fanboy means and why that is different from beeing just a fan.
that beard tho
Love the way he kept acknowledging his #1 fan specifically while playing! What a cool dude!
such a nice normal guy.
agreed! rare quality ...
u're right i've never seen any musician like him.he just don't have any pride for who he is,very polite n humble.he doesn't even use the rough words such as 'fucking', 'shit', 'hell' cause he is man of god...
I never cared for his style of playing, But I have to agree he really seems like a very nice and honorable person. That I am very impressed with that.
his style? He and Jordan Rudess (the keyboardist for DT) did a one night only concert called "A night with Jordan Rudess and John Petrucci" where they played instrumentals. I think that between LTE, DT and this album its awfully hard to find a "style" he doesn't cover....
It's a joy to hear him speak but for those who can't wait, just go ahead: 7:53

Great video from John as usual. To bad GC no longer has a re-seller contract with Mesa Boogie, i.e. no comments from John at all about his amps.
I AM THE ULTIMATE UNCLE~JOHN PETRUCCI FANATIC....
SuperCool!!! thanks upload.
7:54 song beginning
Very cool, thanks for posting. I was there! :)
@jkascencao, thanks for sharing this ;)
Do you know what he answers to the tuning question at the end, at 37:40 ?
carlosjb2002 what i can remember is that he said, if you have your guitar set up how it supposed to be (professionally).. its going to hold the tune very well..
+jkascencao the best part I wanted to hear cut off xD Nevermind, thanks :D
Yes clap while its still 4/4 lol

Jeez, he lifts!
Damn right, he can lift shadows off a dream
Devun Nolan Hahahaha very true!

Very very great man!!
What does John listen to when he works out?
probably Disney soundtracks.
Ryan Madrid Lmao
The beatles
Metallica
If you know about alesana, yeah no way. No more emo
I'm getting some Billy Mays vibe with that beard.
I've normally never been a fan of his Music Man guitars, but this new model looks gorgeous
This guy such a beast he has biceps on his abdomen.
i'd like to thank my father for taking me to this clinic and making me viral

Go for the Majesty, much better than the BC. I promise you won't regret it.
Fonzo Hernandez which one did you get?
one of my dream guitars!
That beard, he´s Jesus i knew it!
Buffed ass jesus xD
I just see a facewarmer...
15:25 Hammerstein: I was at that concert!!!!!!!
I was there too !
I always found Johns technique very intriguing. I mean, he is an amazing guitar player but both his hands look so tense
15:13 WOOOO!!! I was in Rome too in 2000 :)
He looks to his left and say "WILL ONLY SHOW CHORDS TO YOU GUITAR NOOBS" when the lead part kicks in he will face infront ahaha
perhaps, and this is just a theory, but he might be facing his pedalboard.........
Applause
Love his solo album.
so what was the answear for the last quastion in the video?
u'll be my idol forever I'm Thai people ^^
I was there! Almost convinced me to buy a Majesty!
Almost...
Coolest dude out there. Looks like lord Shiva too. 😍
The thing that I realized why he is so humble, John always repeat the question so everybody knows clearly what he wants to answer
Holy shit. Is John getting into bodybuilding now. Dudes getting huge arms
Enjoyed this video! All the best!!

where can I get that Majesty banner
Is that Guga behind?
He seems to be laboring during the guitar/synth unison bit
JT91 I mean, you've played the dance of eternity before right? It's fucking exhausting even for the master himself.

I've read that Ibanez didn't want to give him piezo either, but there are Ibanez picasso guitars with piezo. He had a custom one that was fixed bridge (6 string) with piezo. He used it to record Home.
There was one custom one they made for him, it wasn't a regular production model.
I really can't headbang to this.
