This was a really fun insight! When you see other amazing players playing classic riffs and trying to add their own flavour, you realise the genius is often in the purity and simplicity of the original... And it's often the most difficult thing to hold back and keep it simple when you CAN do more. Great lesson for the youngsters! Anyway, didn't expect thrash metal Van Morrison when I clicked on this. Sensational stuff.
Crazy how much shit we give Lars and Metallica but they get cited by major musicians as #1 influences constantly. We should give them a little more legacy-respect 🤘
I was obsessed with Paradise Lost riffs from the first few albums, my guitar teacher was totally impressed with them which made me think I had a good ear, lol... he was all about blues which is a great foundation of course. 'walking blues' is such a great thing to play with, easy but you can improvise so easily
I learned "Wipeout" and it was all metal from there. That song primed me for growing up in the 80s and learning as much metal as I could get my hands on.
Brandon Ellis rockin the Boston T Shirt just made my day, christ was he even born when that came out? I was but i'm old enough to be his dad, and i gotta say that kid kicks some serious ass on guitar
For my money, Dave Mustaine has the largest quantity of badass riffs in all of Metal. People always cite songs off Rust in Peace, but Dave has absolutely smokin riffs and killer tone all throughout his discography. Awesome that dude chose Lucretia to rip through. Phenomenal song 🤘
Thank you, Mr George Kollias, for saying something positive about the drumming of Lars Ulrich. All I see on here is hate for him. It just gets so old that it's still for some reason "cool" to bash Lars. I remember when it started, with the Napster thing... and... dare I have to be the one to say it? Hearing from a lot of my own favorite bands of the late nineties and thousands and beyond that the labels screwed everyone and even some of the biggest rock/metal bands still didn't make any money... Lars was right about where the industry was going. They don't make money from streaming. Not really. They make their money on merch and ticket sales. Yeah that flash cartoon of him and Hetfield was funny. Twenty years ago. Can we finally start giving the man his damned due respect?
I started with smoke on the water and iron man on one string and I used to play it on my lap with my thumb lol. I had some cheap stratocaster from a pawn shop and a cheap fender amp
I don't know this man Brandon at 13:37, but he could be a comedian, he has an incredible delivery and timing that is nothing short of his already excellent alternate picking. That was excellent !!!
The only thing I learned is that Brendon has a hell of a fuckin picking hand, christ that down-picking is beautiful. You don't see that kind of shit anymore.
@@nickb1789 black sabbath has plenty of easy stuff but I could see it being not as appealing as a guitar player until you're more knowledgeable. I know a lot of people whose first riff was iron man
Surprised there’s no Ozzy. First song I learned was Crazy Train. Just picking out the notes. Once it started sounding like the song I was completely hooked Then all the standard metal stuff. First death metal was Deicide and Morbid Angel songs.
I never want to hear distorted guitar again. "This is the first song I ever learned" *SHHHHHH* note note *SHHHHH* note note note *SHHHHHH* Guys ..........you can sound heavy without your metal distortion pedal on 10 - into your Diezel on 10. FFS.😆
These are the first riffs they learned they probably haven't played them in decades. Get the stick out of your ass and don't watch it if you hate it that bad
Obviously a better player than you. His tastes EXACTLY what inspired kids back then. Fast doesn't make you good. Just like a baritone guitar or detuning doesn't make you heavy. Just look at every "metal" band today. Ghost kicks ALL their asses.
@chickentwisties2298 that was their progressive album. Indeed, very complex. If you actually look at the body if work, his approach changed every album, much like their guitar tone. I don't know where most of y'all come from, but where I come from changing it up is growth. Finding a niche and sticking to it is rather boring as an artist.
You obviously don't know your music history. Dude was amazing on their first albums. Hell, I'd say his drumming on the Black Album and Load is amazing as well. Does precisely what these albums need. I've heard Lars described as the most "good enough" drummer in the world and I'd heavily agree. However, his work on early Metallica - every member's work on early Metallica - should not be understated. I mean, the band's influence on the Metal world is evident in every goddamn interview of bands younger than them when they're asked about what inspired them to pick up their instrument and it's often Metallica and/or Iron Maiden. And if you cannot see this influence, you are either willfully ignorant to it or a moron.
LOL it's so funny hearing them play those riffs on their down-tuned guitars
🤣👍👍
Brown eyed girl needs a death metal version
11:15 I love when Lucretia gets it's flowers.
Now I know, if I ever get a chance to meet him, what to start talking about
Great song
Brendon Small is so under rated.
Learning cyborg slayers now. Fun but a bit hard on the hands
*Brandon Ellis
@@Chrome262what a coincidence, that’s my favorite DETHKLOK song

I see Metal Legend Brendon Small in thumbnail; I click video.
Same xd
still to this day brandon ellis still blows me away even after binging all of his videos lol such a great guitar player
This channel always has the best rock tunes! Never disappoints!
hetfield's influence is crazy. how many people started playing guitar and started bands because of Metallica. its almost immeasurable
Crazy how much shit we give Lars and Metallica but they get cited by major musicians as #1 influences constantly.

Paid reviews obviously 😂
It’s like if Kardashians wore their merch
Lmao
People that don’t, are just jealous.
Let's be honest no one gives Metallica shit. Just Lars for being an asshole 😂.
Dave Davison fucking IMPRESSED Me! That dude was on his shit! He KNEW what he was playing and talking about.
Everyone else was "something like that".
Dave Dave is a consummate pro.
Not to mention, from what I've heard, a very gifted teacher
@seanconnors1613 from what he presented here, I have no doubt. This is a PLAYER, and can play with anyone. Not just his stoner buddies.
@k2rocksstl Berkelee graduate👌
He also taught guitar at his high school, Boston Latin, while he was working on his degree.
@seanconnors1613 education based players are professional af.

I like Bendon Small's facial expression while playing. Like he's looking at a rack of yard tools at Sears.

I’ve come to realize over the years, that Brendon Smalls is the Ferrari of Datsun.
“Don’t worry about your playing’ son, we’re already there.”
reminds me of when I first picked up a guitar, the very first riff I learned when I was 3 was All along the watchtower.
Seek and destroy was one of the first riffs I learned and loved it. Still do
someone better play "wake me up before i go go"
Brandon Ellis with the Hello Kitty drum in the background 😂 Getting Portnoy flashbacks

Hell no he didnt.
Yeah I was like wtf!
But than.
"for whom the bell tolls, because it's just so simple..."
*Plays it nine million percent wrong*
lol..yep!
They’re recalling riffs that they haven’t played in a long time - it’s more just a part of the conversation.
You mean no kids are sitting down to learn Necrophagist as their first riff?😂
Ellis slayed on theory and execution of best riffs

Buddy made some fancy work of smoke on the water 😂 1:00
AJFA has my fav bass guitar tone
meanwhile George Kollias just learning entire ALBUMS as his first songs
Suffering Hour shirt in Revocation guy, props. One person with good taste of actual modern metal

that’s the author of Metalocalypse. Check out that one, it’s a hilarious satire and black humor series
Brendan Small is a huge name in TV. Look at what he has done.
The greatest fake band that ever existed. Dethklok.

you're not gonna believe this lil bro....
All these guitarists are cool!!! You guys are COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLL!!!
That I'm a Viking riff starts the same as Kings of the Nightworld
I almost had a Brendon small explorer. Thing played like a dream.

Dave's suffering hour tshirt is awesome
I always like Dave's fresh outfits, clearly he has a sense of fashion.

Brendon Small with the ultra deep cut of 5150.
Nice shit riffs.. But" Lucretia"blow away them all..
Where is Black Sabbath, Slayer and Death influences among Death Metal musicians 🤷🏽♂️
That's not the shit you learn right outta the gate lol
