Jordan Rudess with hair seems so weird 😂 also I just realized he’s almost 70 years old xD he’s the oldest in Dream Theater. And Petrucci always looks high AF haha. My first piece of instrument was the keyboard/piano but the drums will always be the love of my life and Mike Portnoy is one of my drum rock gods 🤘🏻
I love how Mike Portnoy tells us a whole story every section he is on here. It shows his undying passion for rock music. Rush when he grew up and how Neil Peart shaped his drumming style, and later on Iron Maiden's drummers bringing the energy and intensity with those opening riffs. I could listen to him talk about music all day! -- side note, if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend the Drumeo YT channel and all of Mike's appearances there!
I loved Rush all my life and didn't think they could get any better, then they played The Garden and I was blown away once again. Saw them live with it That's the sign of an amazing band, amazing every step
Its funny how their "at home practice" tones reflect their guitar personalities (i.e., John Petrucci perfectly dialed in, Bill Kelliher blowing out the speakers from his couch)
@Jordan Rudess at 8 or 9 that is Hectic as, I Love how you can see in your face the time when your improve came into play. I know understand why you are a piece of the GREAT Band DREAM THEATER🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼 thank you for sharing Mate
Jordan. Yeah, Bach is alright, but if you don't mind, I did a little something to the piece, and personally, I think I brought it alive. So an improvement of sorts.
When one of the other guys in the same video as you names you as one of their favorites; and tells the story about the reason they they basically became the band they are... John is a living legend.
I don't get why people hate on Jordan Rudess. I've had the oppurtunity to have several Skype/Zoom lessons with him and he's an extremely knowledgable and gracious musician. I've been intimidated trying to learn from yahoo nobody music teachers down the street, but Jordan is extremely patient and forthcoming with his understanding of music, even when it's something trivial for someone of his background and education.
haha hey hey my my was my first riff too :) a lloonnnngggg time ago. now I can play Sugar Mountain too lol 4:33 no shade but the guy looks like a billy goat, time for a shave

of course at Juilliard they would discourage you from showing any xtra knowledge of the song and music itself, they just want you to regurgitate Walmart style (read the article from the president of Harvard about what public education is REALLY for and yo'll understand what I mean about training for Walmart) same with high school jazz bands in my recent experience teaching my students, not unless yogurt accepted into the higher classes which of course I get them into by teaching them to use scales. glad I go to Berklee
Am I the only one who thinks it's nuts that the rhythm guitarist from Mastodon can randomly shred?! Makes me wonder how good the lead guitarist actually is, that this guy is playing rhythm? Wow?
Guitarist: Here's my first riff.
Portnoy: Listen to me play every Rush song.

Twice as fast too!

Rudess, man… ‘So, I haven’t played this in like, 50 years…’ Plays it perfectly in 3x speed with extra flair. 😂
@@the1khronohs40 🤣
that's just how good he is, big flex
Petrucci's tone is spot on. Didn't realize how much his rig sounds like Alex
Petrucci looks like he could be Jesus 🧔♀️
His style is very inspired by him. If you learn any Dream Theater on guitar, there are a ton of similarities.
Petrucci has like perfect pitch for tone, I've seen many videos where he recreates others sounds it's really cool, wish I had that kinda ear

Jordan went to Julliard, apparently.
Haha, so weird, he usually never mentions it! /s
more like Juliard went to Jordan
He's so humble about it.
Don't forget he has perfect pitch. 😉

True! He gave that Taylor Swift's song a new flavour. But one of the best videos ever is Mike playing the Hello Kitty drumset, hilarious! :D
Improvisation is not allowed at Julliard. LOL
I loved Rush all my life and didn't think they could get any better, then they played The Garden and I was blown away once again. Saw them live with it

11:10 "Where Eagles Dare" is one of the most badass intros of all time. The whole song is super hard to play well alive, but that intro... damn!
Crazy how the first rush song portnoy thinks of is lakeside park lmao. Truly shows he knows their whole catalogue!

"My dad got me a Venom live video..."

Sick to see Dir en Grey and Mastodon in the same vid- they were my metal gateway bands!

It truly is crazy how much 80% of the band can carry so hard for about 20 years now, even to this day. Rudess is a national treasure.
Portnoy is my guy. Just a killer drummer!
Guys I heard a rumour jordan rudess have been to julliard can anyone pls confirm?
Yes at age 9
@@markcat1 and he played bach?
The first riff I learned was pretty woman by Roy Orbison. God, im old
Mike Portnoy can play in any rock/metal subgenre apparently...
I never thought much about Charlie Benante as a great drummer. I was surprised to find out he was such an influence of Portnoy.
Jordan. Yeah, Bach is alright, but if you don't mind, I did a little something to the piece, and personally, I think I brought it alive. So an improvement of sorts.
Jordan Rudess is the Alex Honnold of keyboardists (50% compliment 50% insult)
5:00 Jazzy. I like it.
Take a shot every time Jordan mentions Juilliard.
I've met Jordan Rudess and he is in another human zone. He becomes what he is playing
Is it just me or are the guys from DT really a few levels above the rest?
They always have been.. and it’s exactly why others are mentioning them as one of the biggest influence. 😄
Richard Henshall is close to their level
Super glad to see Joey Vera included, always loved his playing.
Jordan Rudess is a robot, not a human. Forget ChatGPT, the first large artificial intelligence model was him.
I'm sure Bill just forgot about The Last Baron's riff
the riff
Jordan, your Bach piece was phenomenal until you summoned the ghost of Liberace...😁
😂😂😂😂
Lulz.
Rudess has more talent than taste.
I mean, he played something he improvised when he was 9... about 60 years ago, so that might not be the best thing to judge him on.
I wonder what is Ron Jarzombek's favorite song of all time.
yooo dir en grey? you love to see it
Absolutely love em
didn't expect to find you here /)

Love the variety! Obvious DT overtones but this still took me places I needed to go!
Anybody else noticed they didn't actually used recorded tracks on 7:28
Dir en Grey is a pretty damn underrated band.
Ruddess was so humble.
Joey Vera!! Fuck yes!!!
"My dad got me a Venom video" ... dad of the century.
Exactly what I thought!
Kemper hopes we don't hear the Ivar Bjornson clips. 😬
Idk Why Portnoy and Petrucci haven't done a Rush tribute band yet
If I remember correctly, they were a part of a rush tribute cd back in the late 90s
Check out WORKING MAN. compilation album featuring DT, Fates Warning, and a plethora of great musicians.
@loudwire wish you would’ve put the name of the songs they are playing too cuz it’s hard to hear it sometimes
Holy moly, when does Jordan return to Middle Earth for the big showdown with Sauron?
Surprised none of the younger guys in the video mentioned they were a fan of Dream Theater lmao
Edit: 14:32 I was wrong 😂
When one of the other guys in the same video as you names you as one of their favorites; and tells the story about the reason they they basically became the band they are...
John is a living legend.
And what an album he started with!
The Jordan Rudess Julliard recount was a cracker.

People get jealous of high level musicians that are both intelligent and super nice people. I never understood getting jealous instead of inspired
Shitty tone can destroy all the impression
Why I never really liked Randy Rhoads. He had a shitty guitar tone.
Would have been a better story if Rudess was the only 9-year-old to ever be expelled from Julliard. "Get. Out!"
Lol everyone mentioning their fav bands, and the dream theater keyboard man mentions dream theater. That dude is his biggest fan.
haha hey hey my my was my first riff too :) a lloonnnngggg time ago. now I can play Sugar Mountain too lol 4:33 no shade but the guy looks like a billy goat, time for a shave
