I’ve had my Mk V/25 for a few years now…it really is a fantastic amp…so many good tones from the 6 different modes….especially from The Crunch mode….Yet again another Brilliant video from yourself Euge….
Great review as usual!! I purchased this amp on your recommendation and am blown away from such a small, but pretty loud amp. Another very useful tool for the toolbox.
I’ve been eyeing this amp since it was released. This video sold me. Mesa should start giving you a cut because you made this amp sound incredible. The full size Mark sounded even better in your other video, but I don’t need that much power. Love your channel! It inspired me to really explore my amps using my ear instead of my eyes. Now they sound F’n great!
I also have a 40th Anniversary SD-1 being delivered today. Your channel is so inspiring. I’ve rediscovered my mid controls thanks to you and it’s fucking great.
Wow I recently picked up this amp and just had the chance to play for an hour or so. It’s fantastic!!! So much versatility. Took me a few minutes to dial in and understand how the dials and faders on eq work but then pure sonic gold. I noticed with the dials and faders small adjustments make very noticeable changes. Love that eq section. Can go from V shaped scooped mods to a tight metal esqu tone in seconds. And plenty of volume for most jams and gigs, through my 212 that is. Not sure about a 112 but a 412 would go a long way with this amp. Very cool amp. Thanks for this and your other great videos. Definitely moved me to look towards this beast.

God damn, now I’m also stucked to SD-1. Used it on Jaded Hearts first show since Covid together with my Amp1 Iridium, classic channel, and it really made a difference. An awesome combo 👏🏻
Nice demo and comparisons. I've never been a "Mesa/Boogie-guy" either, but this amp sounds really good. I have to keep in mind that it's you who's playing and you definitely have your own signature style and tone which makes any gear sound fantastic. Personally, I've never been a fan of amps with built-in EQ's. To me it's just another thing to fiddle around with.

I got one of these. Well the 25 watt version. I liked it a lot. I would switch it from clean to the Mark IV setting. Then I would get a loud tick. Thought it was a bad tube. In the end. I just sent it and traded for a Friedman Runt 50. I’m so happy with the Runt!!!
i have one from a week now, lended from a student of mine, it's an amzing amp, gorgeous tones but i tested it live ( outdoor stage with drums, gtr, bass, 2 voices and sequences ) and even at 25 watts with a 1x12 the volume is really at the limit, it starts to compress too much, it doesn't have the necessary headroom for a live gig in my experience , you're constantly put on the spot because the amps reacts very differently when pushed at stage's volume. It's an unbeliavable amp for home use, rehearsals, little gigs or recordings but for live ....mmmmh i would go with real 90watt mark v. However it's a great sounding little monster and your videos are always good. Ciaooo
Hello Euge, I just purchased a Boss Sd1 overdrive. I have never used an overdrive on any of my high gain amps. I see in this video you are using it at a lower setting. Are you pushing the overdrive thru the front? It appears also you are using thru the crunch or higher gain settings on the amp? Setting the adjustments on pedal lower and using to define your sound? Would really appreciate your expertise answer on this. Thank You
Yeah I’m overdriving tube amps preamp tubes to really fire them up. And since SD-1 have quite a narrow frequency (it boosts mainly the mids) you get a really tight & aggressive tone which I like a lot 💪.
@@EugeValovirta230V OK, that's exactly what I am looking for in my sound. I was under that impression that is what it was doing but, I still wanted to ask you!! I really enjoy your amp demonstrations and just everything you do musically! Thanks again, appreciate your input and response very much !
Cool! And Tube Screamer obviously does pretty much the same; the ”operating” frequency is just a bit different. I prefer SD-1 especially with Marshalls and TS-808 with my old 5150.

Yes! haha... I wish someone took a picture of my face when I loaded up your channel and saw you reviewing my amp! and I think I asked if you would get one in not long ago. W2G, MusiX! :) I really, really wanted to hear you play through one of these. I bought this head with the accompanying 1x12 Slant and 1x12 bottom cab, mint, used here in town early this year. Your comments and observations are spot on and what I really got a kick out of was when you went over the graphic settings, they're almost exactly like mine (I just had a little more 80hz). Also re the MKIV, I have to agree. With all due respect to Randall, it does not sound anything like my MKIV, as it shouldn't with the power section being such a big part of the MKIV sound. MKIV is still king as far as I'm concerned. For what I do, my MK5:25 is in the fat mode mostly as with the gain, you can still get some pretty awesome heavy dirty tones. Bottom line is for me at least, it's been fantastic here at home, and thanks to you, I bought the Bogren IRs and that was it as I really don't like the Cab Clone™ at all - too nasally. Thanks Euge, you continue to be the MAN!

Thanks! Yeah I ended up buying the 90 watt after I reviewed it. It could be but cranking the master isn’t that much needed than with Marshalls IMO but you still need to dial it quite a bit for the power tubes to really start to work.

Recto’s and Mark series have very little in common. Mark series amps go back to the early 80’s, Brad Gillis used a Mark iiB on the Sabbath live album Speak Of The Devil.
Almost a year later, care to update on your opinions on this little amp? I know you got it's big brother so I doubt it gets much use, but do you see it being a viable option for recording with the other choices that are out today?
@@EugeValovirta230V I've tried messing with the Mesa mk in my helix and can't get a tone I'm happy with. Maybe I'll try mimicking this and see how it sounds
@@EugeValovirta230V I've learned I'm not very good at dialing in tones I like, lately I've been getting preset packs from Choptones and using them as a starting point and just nudging a setting or removing an effect and that seems to be working. My favorite right now is a, wait for it, boosted 800.
Fantastic demo. How does this sound with lower volumes through a cab - could you still get that JCM800ish tone? Looking for an all rounder for home and it is between this and a smaller JVM combo as I hear the master vol is good. Looking for nice cleans, crunch and heavy tones from one amp…this seems versatile. Ps loving the Ozzy riffs/how to play. Keep them coming!
I bought one last week because the cleans are so good. It sounds great when adding a closed back cab I usually use with my 20 watt jvm 800. It's incredibly diverse. It takes pedals better than the marshall.
Probably the Peavey ’cos I’ve been using 5150, and JCM800s, since 90s so that tone is always like coming home. If I’d want a bit more versatility I’d probably go with the Mesa.
I've got the 90watt head and its awesome. funny thing is it sits on top of my 6505 head like what you have. I run it through k100s which really works well for me. also edge mode I find is a hidden jem for classic rock tone. I recently tuned my esp 7 string baritone also with emg 707s to g#. The mark v kills the 6505 due to it clarity and tightness. Great for recording. blending them is amazing however. so yea love your setup you gained a sub:)
That depends what you like but Jens Bogren’s IRs are my favourites and the only ones I’ve been using for the past few years and especially my signature IR ’Valovirtuous’ from his Lead & Clean pack. Use my code EUGE230V on their shop and you’ll get a 10% discount from all their products 😎🤟.
Dude! I own a Mesa Mark IV an I love it! I also own a Mesa Stiletto Duce Stage II. The Stiletto is supposed to be like a modded Marshall. You should get one of those and compare it to "The BAD Boy". That would be awesome! Once again your vid is badass!
@@EugeValovirta230V Everyone that I have talked to that owns an 800 and a Stiletto amp say that you can get the Stiletto to do everything that the 800 can do (kind of hard to believe...for me anyways). I know Mesa has not made another "British Voiced" amp like the Stiletto since. The Triple Crown is supposed to be British voiced, but it didn't seem that way to me (maybe I just don't know how to adjust the settings yet). I love that Stiletto an it has inspired me to save to buy a JCM 800 again! Dude I can't tell you how much I love your channel man! Sorry for the long message
When I was a professional soldier it was part of the job to take orders from my superiors but in civil life, especially from people unknown to me, no thanks 😎. And I don’t need those since I have several Marshalls from 50-100 watt. Mostly Plexis and 800s. Vintage and re-issues.
@@EugeValovirta230V Eagerly awaiting! Hopefully before the black Friday, as I need to make a decision between a used JCM800 Re-Issue, 5150 III EL34 and Mesa TC50... :)
@@EugeValovirta230V and it's the other way around on this side of the pond... I wanted to buy a Marshall SC20H, but first of all, they have none available here in Canada, and they also went up in price from CAD $1499 to $1799, which is the same price as the EVH 5150 III EL34. So my options are either that one, or a used JCM800 Re-Issue (the new one would set me back for $3999, and that's way out of my budget). The Mark V:25 is $2050 and the TC50 is $2600. Well, +13% tax on top of all that. So I'm debating what to get for that late80's - early 90's hard rock sound, without breaking the bank.
Damn. New 800 2203s are around 1.8K here atm. Btw. I have JCM2000 TSL for sale on Reverb if you’re interested. The crunch channel is pretty much like 800 2203: ruclips.net/video/OrQJCTOkbfk/видео.html
Sounds great in the mix although I didn't like the 25 Watt version of the amp. I don't like the EL84 power section, it sounds the fizzy to me. The 100 Watt Version how ever is a blast. Once you have figured out how the eq works that amp just does it all. That ESP Euge is awesome!!! Cheers

I just plugged into my new Mark V 25 and I'm in heaven... holy crap.. what an amp..
I am surprised you like this little Boogie amp. I almost bought the 35watt version years ago, but I am glad I didn't. I probably would have ended-up selling it. YOU need to get your hands on a Boogie JP-2c. Seriously. Best amp MESA ever made in my opinion. And yes, I don't like Rectifiers. After hearing the Mark V-25 against the Amp1 Iridium..... the Amp1 sounds so much better. And of course, the bad-boy too. Boogie amps are very expensive. The JP-2c is REALLY expensive. But you still need to try one! If I was going on-stage to play shows... I would want one of these amps: JP-2c, EVH 100watt Stealth, or ENGL Fireball 100. OR.... maybe...... a Fractal FM9! Hehehe!
@@EugeValovirta230V oh ok! Yeah, the one I snagged here in the States is rosewood also, which seemed unusual to me too. But as I’m sitting and playing it, I don’t even notice. Thanks!
is it normal that it has a hum noise even when u dont play? i just bought the amp brand new and even with the guitar unpluged it sounds like it has a hum noise not from the fan but speaker and if i barely crank it u can notice it?
Sounds like an electrical hum. That happens quite often on tours at different venues etc. I’d recommend getting a power conditioner. I have Black Lion Audio’s one and everything in my studio gets the power from that and everything’s dead quiet. Sometimes also just plugging the power chord to a different plug or turning it other way around works.
If the cablone IR is the same as the two notes official mesa cabs, then it's my favorite IR right now. I'm using the 2x12 recto cab and I think it sounds fantastic, much more balanced than York audios and ownhammers. thanks for your videos, Euge.
Brother, love your playing love your reviews. However your comparison to the Blug amp was abysmal. The Blug was not dialed in at all thus making it sound terrible! The Blug is an incredible amp as you well know. Thanks for your time,
I’m a Marshall guy I can’t stand Rectifiers, they lack that quality that I love so much. They’re fun for rhythm but the lead is horrible. But I love Mark V’s, they do have that oomf that I like
With such a wonderful amplifier like that Mesa Boogie it sure would be nice to hear somebody that knows how to play a guitar rather than smash the strings in the Headbanger fashion with the gain turned up real high so nobody will figure out they really don’t know how to play a guitar

@@EugeValovirta230V I've learned I'm not very good at dialing in tones I like, lately I've been getting preset packs from Choptones and using them as a starting point and just nudging a setting or removing an effect and that seems to be working. My favorite right now is a, wait for it, boosted 800.
Hard to go wrong with an 800 😎💪.
Thanks! Tube amps work the better the louder you abuse them (to a certain point) 😎. Especially if your looking for that 800 bark 🤟.
I bought one last week because the cleans are so good. It sounds great when adding a closed back cab I usually use with my 20 watt jvm 800. It's incredibly diverse. It takes pedals better than the marshall.
Nice Monitors!
Thanks! 😎
Regardless of price, if you had to choose between the Mesa Boogie Mark V 25 and Peavey 6505 MH, which one would you choose?
Probably the Peavey ’cos I’ve been using 5150, and JCM800s, since 90s so that tone is always like coming home. If I’d want a bit more versatility I’d probably go with the Mesa.
Awesome, thanks!
Built in IR wasn't there for me, but amp other than that is awesome. Agreed that the Bogren IRs are awesome.
👌🤟
I've got the 90watt head and its awesome. funny thing is it sits on top of my 6505 head like what you have. I run it through k100s which really works well for me. also edge mode I find is a hidden jem for classic rock tone. I recently tuned my esp 7 string baritone also with emg 707s to g#. The mark v kills the 6505 due to it clarity and tightness. Great for recording. blending them is amazing however. so yea love your setup you gained a sub:)
I have the 90 watt sitting there atm and it’s an awesome amp 👌😎. Thanks man!
@@EugeValovirta230V watching your video on this now sick tones!
Euge: and I DON’T have my signature IR Valovirtuous
Me: 😯🤯
Awesome video!
😁👌🙏
what can be a good ir for this amp? im stick on 1.2 on suhr rlir on my gibson humbucker.
That depends what you like but Jens Bogren’s IRs are my favourites and the only ones I’ve been using for the past few years and especially my signature IR ’Valovirtuous’ from his Lead & Clean pack. Use my code EUGE230V on their shop and you’ll get a 10% discount from all their products 😎🤟.
ok thanks !
Awesome review as always ! I'm curious to know the graphic equalization settings you use with the crunch channel ? Classic V Shape ?
Thanks! Pretty much the classic V 👌😎.
Dude! I own a Mesa Mark IV an I love it! I also own a Mesa Stiletto Duce Stage II. The Stiletto is supposed to be like a modded Marshall. You should get one of those and compare it to "The BAD Boy". That would be awesome! Once again your vid is badass!
Yeah it’d be awesome to try that out! 🤟👌
Glad to hear & thanks man!
Haven’t tried that but it’d be interesting for sure. Glad to hear that man! Thanks!
Buy Marshall Superlead and/or 1968 jmp 50W
When I was a professional soldier it was part of the job to take orders from my superiors but in civil life, especially from people unknown to me, no thanks 😎. And I don’t need those since I have several Marshalls from 50-100 watt. Mostly Plexis and 800s. Vintage and re-issues.
How about Mesa Triple Crown TC50 or TC100? Those are supposedly their "British-style" amps.
In due time 👌😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V Eagerly awaiting! Hopefully before the black Friday, as I need to make a decision between a used JCM800 Re-Issue, 5150 III EL34 and Mesa TC50... :)
That’ll take some time ’cos MusiX doesn’t have them atm and Boogies are quite hard to get here in Europe now.
Cheers
Yeah it’s always a bit like that with 84s but I was still quite surprised how big the sound was 😎💪.
Thanks!
Love these amps but the prices are crazy ! Should of never sold mine I had a 2010 Mark 5 90watt 😢
I'm digging that T style esp bro😁 my Tele is arriving this week 😉 oh yes. Wanted this guitar for almost 5 years. Finally pulled the trigger☝
Cool man!
How about boss ir-200. It would be good to get your opinion about that pedal ir
Maybe someday 👌😎. Thanks for the suggestion!
SD-1 brothers :D
😎👌💪
Oh man.. I was literally about to buy this amp and Mesa Boogie stopped selling in Europe till spring 2023.. Euge do you have any contacts to hook me up please?? Haha
Damn. I don’t have a direct contact to Boogie but only with MusiX: www.musix.com/ch/en/
@@EugeValovirta230V I see. MusiX still has one left but I live in Sweden and I’m afraid that the import taxes from Switzerland would make the price a bit too high.. I guess I need to wait. Thanx anyway! 🙏
@@EugeValovirta230V EUGEEE!! So on your recommendation I contacted MusiX who were one of the very few in Europe who had the Mark V 25 left. They only had one last amp left which was a demo model. I managed to get a better price on it and a didn't have to pay any import taxes (I live in Sweden) because they had it in Portugal. SO! Thank YOU for the great tip! I just plugged into my new Mark V 25 and I'm in heaven... holy crap.. what an amp..
That’s really cool man! Glad to hear!
Hehehe!
Yeah me too 😎. Didn’t compare it to The Bad Boy on this one 😉.
@@EugeValovirta230V Okay, my mistake. I thought you did.
😎
Hey Euge, kind of off topic and nerdy question, but what fretboard material is on your relic’d Tokai?
It’s rosewood which is a bit odd since all my other Tokai Custom LPs have ebony but it works so I like it 😎👌.
Green grass and high tide forever!!! T Gallo
Indeed! 👌🎼🎸
If the cablone IR is the same as the two notes official mesa cabs, then it's my favorite IR right now. I'm using the 2x12 recto cab and I think it sounds fantastic, much more balanced than York audios and ownhammers. thanks for your videos, Euge.
I don’t about that but if it sounds good it’s good 👌😎. Thanks man!
Outlaws! Green Grass and High Tides.
Yes! 👌🎼🎸
I really like the boogie 25 but I'm more of a brown sound marshal guy. Sounds like the boogie can cover it
Yeah I was quite surprised I liked it so much since I’ve been mainly 800s forever 😎.
the amp sounds very midrangey just like marshall but with extra balls :)
😎
First EL84 amp that I really like in an amp demo! Very nice 👍 But 2 grand is a But much…
The price is a bit hefty but for a handbuilt amp not that much 😎.
Brother, love your playing love your reviews. However your comparison to the Blug amp was abysmal. The Blug was not dialed in at all thus making it sound terrible! The Blug is an incredible amp as you well know. Thanks for your time,
Thanks man!
I thought it sounded the best to be honest. It’s pretty much like my Bad Boy 800 so really mean & nasty. Awesome amp!
Don't think anybody caught that Outlaws lick. Lol
I guess one before you if I remember correct 😎.
Kokeile PRS MT 15:)
Jos sattuu eteen, niin toki 👌😎.
I prefer 7 strings. Nice
🤟😎
I’m a Marshall guy
I can’t stand Rectifiers, they lack that quality that I love so much. They’re fun for rhythm but the lead is horrible.
But I love Mark V’s, they do have that oomf that I like
Me too but I enjoyed this one a lot too 😎.
Green grass and high tides the outlaws
Yes indeed 👌. Such a great song with amazing playing 🎼.
@@EugeValovirta230V yeah man my dad use to play that song for me all the time when I was young and he'd say listen to these guitar players.
Fukn A man !!
🤟😎
Compared to 5150 ? 😎🍻🤘🏻
In due time 😎.
"ka ka ka ka"
With such a wonderful amplifier like that Mesa Boogie it sure would be nice to hear somebody that knows how to play a guitar rather than smash the strings in the Headbanger fashion with the gain turned up real high so nobody will figure out they really don’t know how to play a guitar
Pepita is lazy :) he is more or less hibernating :)
😁👌
its almost winter, hoot-hoot break till spring
