I love how everyone is covering the Boogie plugin at the moment and then Ola just comes out with a video comparing 3 different versions of THE REAL AMPS. Hell yeah man. I did buy the plugin and it instantly became my favorite plugin. One day I will have a real Mark. Mark my words.
I will probably test the plug-in soon! Just waiting it out a bit
@@OlaEnglund please compare it with the real amps. love your content!
What’s the plug in called? Or is it the neural one?
@@OlaEnglund Now compare to the Axe FX!!! :D
@@malcolmrff I assume they're talking about the neural one. It's really good btw
They all sound great, but man the JP-2C just has a little more tightness and punch to it. Love mine ❤
Completely agree. I was kinda shocked I didn't like the original the best
agreed!!! i have the old tried n true mark IV however...
non simulclass removes the fluidity and adds punch, I wish they added simulclass cos you can always make an amp tighter but not looser.
Agreed! Also my favorite amp in my arsenal.
@@0megalul309 This bears repeating.
🐻 🐻 🐻
Can definitely tell the JP-2C has significantly more low-end coming through. It's a clear difference at least on my listening system with powered monitors and sub. Great video, Ola!
The JP-2C is based on a 60/100W non Simul-Class head that was JP's #1 recording amp. I'm betting that has something to do with it - the Mark V (and I'm assuming VII) IIC+ modes are based on a Simul-Class combo (non-EQ model actually) that was Doug West at Mesa's favorite IIC+.
Yeah the 2c was definitely more bass-heavy, I don't know why he said they, "basically sound the same" when it isn't true as they are set. The graphic eq could probably correct the diference a bit and get them much closer.
They all sound pretty damn awesome.
"Hmm, yes, the Mesa Boogie is made of Mesa Boogie."
The OG 2C+ sounds more open to me. The more modern = the more compressed / scooped they are.
Personally I feel they all sound great. Still have a 1984 Mark 2C+ and it sounds massive. The Mark IV is another great option for less money
you should do these 3 amps + neural DSP plugin of Mark II C+
and archetype Petrucci if ur doing the jp-2c
Hey Ola! Long time follower and supporter. You really are the voice of a community and tackle issues and concepts we're all wanting to try but may currently lack the resources. Loved the video and have tons of respect for the life you've created for yourself, truly inspiring. Honestly, I also think the JP-2C takes it! Cheers!
To my ears, the way you set the JP2C has the most impressive sound through the cab with the se voodoo mic. All amps are something to be hailed! Nice video Mr. England and company.
Awesome video thanks for doing this! Extremely similar tones. I have the JP2C and it’s an amazing sounding amp.
They all sound killer. I'm surprised how close the VII sounds to the Boogie IIC+; nearly identical to my ears. The JP was definitely "meaner" sounding than the other two. The Boogie IIC+ was actually my favorite of the three in this demo, it just sounded a little bit fuller.
But honestly they're so close if you blindfolded me I'm not sure I'd be able to tell which was which! 🤣
Coming back after watching again, MAN these amps sound good.
Yep, the JP sounds meaner in the low mids.
Wow great work dialing those in Ola ...the tone was so close it was best demo Ive seen yet.
Great comparison, well needed. I own 5 IIC+, one exactly like yours, and I say that there’s something with the feel, string sensitivity, that the original IIC+ has, that can’t be exactly replicated on the VII or JP2C (I played the latter). That being said, they are all excellent amps. Thank you for the demo!
Maybe because the volume knob is missing in the Jp2c? If i remember in the manual it was been described as sensitive (based on guitar) control.
ola bringing that thom york vibe lately and im all for it
Great and very interesting comparison, thanks Ola! Now it's time to compare it with the new Neural DSP Mark 2c+ suite...🙏🏻
Loved this. Indeed, they were all very similar - I think the JP might have been a bit louder at times? but they all sounded like Boogies!
This is exactly the vid I've been interested in for the last week! Read my mind. Thanks. When my Mark VII arrives, I know know the slight adjustments to emulate the other.
Love the mark IIC+ original! The Petrucci was just a little flubby in the low end. Great comparison video Ola!
It's a good video, as always! Well done Ola!🤘
Thanks for doing this, Ola! I just got the Mark IIc NDSP plugin, and also own a Mark V:35 combo. I'm kind of thinking of trading the combo to get a JP2c, as I think I think I prefer the IIC+ to all the other sounds on the MkV.
OMG... one of your best videos man!
thx for this fast but real comparison!
I still prefer the sound of the original IIc+.. it fells more opened and airy to my ears.. but these are tastes!
anyway I agree with you... they are very very similar and differences are so subtle.
thx!
Great comparison Video!
As much Mesa boogie mark series stuff you can do will be perfect. Thanks ola you’re the man
F yeah Ola! This was the one I was waiting for! I would have LOVED to have heard the comparison to the Neural DSP Mark IIC+. Maybe an idea for an extension?
I agree, they sound almost indiscernible! I liked the OG best
My favorite type of content. Old School Ola.
I like the Mark VII the most! The JP-2C sounds a little more boomy imho! But I didn´t expect, how close the VII and the JP2C sound to the original! Great video, as usual!
Fantastic vid. My 3 prefered amps of all time all stacked side by side. Very nice.
The JP2C is my favorite! Thx for the comparison.
Great shoot out, thanks for this!

Love to see a review of the old powerball mk1 v2 compared to a mk2 powerball
I think they all sounded good, and all pretty similar, but I liked the fatter bottom of the 2C+ the best. I'd really be interested to see how the three sound in the context of a full band mix. I bet there the differences would be almost imperceptible.
But the JP2C has a bigger and fatter bottom end out of all the amps
From what I saw the mark series kinda looks ready for mix, i still prefer the dual or triple rectifier. Verry good job OOOla 🤘🤘🤘
Excellent comparison!!
I agree, negligible differences here. Thankfully!
JP2C for the versatility of the eq is my pick, now just have to save up the money...😢
Awesome, would love to see these compared to the new plugin!
They all sounded nearly identical! I'd be happy with any of the above. My Mark VII is on its way to me right now!
Hey Ola, you could have used a power strip after the transformer. That way you could use your ampswitcher.
Love your content!
Grtz from the Netherlands.
I tried the JP2C at Sweetwater, really liked it. I just couldn't afford one. I found a Mesa Nomad 100. I liked the idea of 2 eqs. I put an Empress ParaEQ in the fx loop. Global Post EQ. I use the Mesa EQ as a solo boost. The Empress ParaEQ really made the Mesa Nomad100 better since I could reduce the mids. I can adjust the lows and high quickly. I also, changed the V1 and V2 to 12ay7s helped reduced some noise. I love this amp. I am excited about the new features built in the Mark VII. I also love the JP2C.
You hit it right on with the presence & bass response. They all do sound great but the old Boogies are not compressed like the newer ones Mark IV and on.. I had a Mark V & traded it a few years ago for a Mark III Blue Stripe. Absolutely no regrets. They both have pros & cons. The old Boogies you’re sacrificing your clean tone a bit but im fine with rolling my volume on the guitar back. The bass response & tight chugging on the old Marks makes up for it but the newer Marks are good for just an all around tone.. Chug On !!!!
Thanks for the comparison. So I think the Mark V will sound pretty similar in the 2C+ Mode.😀🤘
Thanks Ola!
I think it all comes down to Your taste. Same stuff with some nuances around: for my ear, the IIC+ will be always the Best, but I admire the modern re-issue that is the JP2C basically and the biggest move forward in Mark Series since Mk IV (as Mk V is more like Best Hits Amp).
The Mk VII retains the dry focused characteristics of the Mk V. It is not bad, could be blended with the original really well I think. On it’s own it’s not good enough for my ear :)
Thanks again!
I didn't clock the bottom end compression on the JP and the Mk VII. I definitely noticed more presence on the original 2C
I think the low end on the IIC+ sounds the most aggressive in this comparison. They all sound fuckin great though
I played a mark 7 yesterday and the mk 7 and mk 4 modes are the greatest sounds I've ever heard from an amp.
Big bottom end on those two channels ?
Did you not like the 2C+ channel ?
@@pavk6315 I honestly got stuck on the Mk4 channel for most of the time I was in the store. I switched to mk7 for a few minutes and had to leave so I didn't get to switch modes. Lol but if you turn the bass all the way down and bring up those frequencies in the post eq the bottom end is not too much.
That test was so fair I couldn't tell the difference even knowing which was which. So, what I take from this is all of those amps are great for metal. You just need to pair them with a good speaker.
All 3 sound awesome! Still slightly prefer the IIC+ in this demo. It has a harder punch on the chugs IMO. JP-2C comes next, but yeah the VII sounds great also. Thanks for the comparison.
Yes! They do. So glad you did this, I really hope the IIC+ purists see this who say the JP-2C and now the Mark VII don't sound even close. They all sound kick ass.
The JP2C sounded like it had a touch more gain/saturation but the other two sounded pretty similar. there surely was a difference in the bass. I could not decide which one I'd like the most and in a mix the differences would most likely disappear anyways. But... shurely the mark iic+ sounded most like the real deal ;-).
Incredible!
Hello Ola, thanks for you videos I have learned a lot about gear with you. Can you make a comparison of a Badlander vs a Mark???
By far jp2c, then the original 2c+, then mark vii.
Thumb up for bring such high quality content ❤
Epic comparison
Getcha boogie on Ola . They all sound awesome with your riffage brother.
Very similar (through my anemic iPad speakers and awful ears 😂) but I did feel some tiny differences. By order of preference 1-OG, 2-JP2C, 3-markVII. The differences are very small though and probably could be dialed to sound 99% the same with very small adjustments. Given the fact that amps from the same model can sound slightly different from each other due to component tolerances and adjustments made by amp techs throughout the years it’s fair to say that the new JP2C and the MarkVII are jn the same ballpark of this OG that was tested - which is good enough for me. And they all sound great..
Damn Son! They all three sound fabulous, it's either that - or you Ola Englund are an expert knob puller-er-er!!
6/10 for sure...
I really appreciate this side by side. Total Boogie nerd here!!
The JP2C is the best in my opinion overall b/c of features. But honestly. They are 98% the same, all of em. Had a mark iii for a while and I just find the older amps to have a warmer/rounder sound? Could be the components too like you said earlier. Killer video, straight to the point and executed well. Thanks Ola
It is a pattern in the Mark Series, since the Mk III. The sound is becoming more focused more articulate but also dry, “Hollow” Compared to the old Boogies.
Mk IV is the perfect compromise between focus and warm sound. If You blend it with and older Boogie it kicks like a mule.
JP2C is the very Best Mark since IV for Me, Best of both Worlds.
BOOGIE fan FOR LIFE !!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE my MK. IV 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🤘🤘
@@mikegallagher2732 killer amp!! I miss mine. Had the rack version.l and the studio preamp. The Jp2c fills my needs now though
@@szabolcsbalog3857 it’s funny, I see the JP2C as a IV too. It’s like you took a IV and made R2 a lead channel and that’s what I was always missing from my IV and it’s why i got my JP2C.
So it’s basically two MKIIc+. So it’s technically a MKIVCC++
@@Boogiethrash That's fucking awesome!!! I also had the triaxis with the 290 power amp in a rackwhich was great too🤘🥰🤘
My first BOOGIE was a .50 caliber.
awesome sound
Shiiiit, they all sound great. I guess comes down to what features you need, or how many channels.
I hear a lot more bass in the JP2C and a bit less mids. The Mark VII sounds REALLY close to the IIC+. Great comparison.
Thank you Ola
Great video Ola per usual, while they all sound incredible I still think the OG Mark IIC+ sounds the best.
Perfect video
I love the Mark IIC, it has that nice crips box oompf, while the other two are darker and less boxy
Neural DSP has just released a Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ Suite which seems to sound absolutely great. It would be interesting to see your review and comparison to the real amplifier. Cheers!
The JP2C sounds the best to me.
I have a JP2C I’ll stick with it. It seemed tighter to me. Pull the presence knob it tightens the low end a little
Nice comparison. Could I hear differences? Maybe a bit in the low end, but bottom line, all three were pure sonic bliss for me. I have a JP2C and would never sell it, but if I had 4k burning a hole in my pocket, a Mark VII combo would be a great addition to my stable.
Thanks dude
I would be curious to see a speaker comparison video between v30s and evm12l plugged with a 2c+! Cheers!
right on time
you know it will be a good video when Ola is pulling his knobs
I'm pretty sold on the idea of getting a Mark VII later in the year when finances are right. When I was a teen and first started playing, the Mark IIC+ was my dream amp, so it's about time I get one of these bad boys.
I have 5 of mark series amps, Green stripe, Red stripe, Blue Stripe and a a IIC+.. if they were vastly different they wouldn't have just swiped each version with just a magic marker swipe or a black dot or a + sign. The big difference in the IIC+ and the Mark III was the third channel. Mesa got noticeably different with the Mesa badging vs the Boogie badges. The Rectifier series,The lone star, Road King,Nomad, etc came later and did sound different... The stiletto was probably the most different being EL34 based shooting toward the Marshall tone. Even my newer Mark 5 EL84 based amp sits in my studio with the older mark III'S and IIC+ it too sounds really close even all these years later with totally different power section/ tubes. The petrucci amp is a modern Mark amp and you can line up all the Mark series amps and NO one in the audience would ever know the difference and most guitar players blind folded couldn't pick them out one from the other especially with the transparent EVM 12L black shadow speaker or an MC-90 black shadow. The IIC+ landed production in the right time to become the flagship vintage boogie. Thats when 80's music was huge and that amp was produced at the right time for the players who made it famous. it didn't make them famous. I would argue a Mark III purple, red, blue or green stripe Mark III could have been used by the players who made the IIC+ famous and those albums and concerts wouldn't have sounded any different. They just weren't available at the time those bands recorded those albums. They stopped the IIC+ when the mark III came into production. They stopped the III when the Mark IV started and so on....they are all great amps and tonally are the same. Most of those bands stopped playing the IIC+ and went to the mark III when it came out because the sound was basically the same but the 3 had a third channel, everyone loved that.
Thanks ola
They're all very very close. You dialed them in great.
i like the magic fingers which makes the tone :)
JP2C!! With these settings for me JP2C > VII > IIC+ but they really sound very close to each other.
They do sound EXTREMELY similar. I was kinda interested to hear the Mark VII mode vs the Mark IIC doing it’s thing vs the JP2C doing its thing. I guess worded better, I’d like to hear each amplifiers strengths compared, not just IIC mode
The JP2C is a IIC+ reissue so it would be doing it’s own thing which is sounding exactly like the IIC+, not a mode or switch. The VII however it’s just a switch to get that voicing.
I want to get a Mark Mesa. I’m not sure which one I’ll go with yet. I have a Triple Rec currently. Leaning towards the Mark VII. I was also considering a Badlander. 🤔
buy any and torpedo captor X. This will make more differences in sound instead of having a lot of amps. For instance, I use Revv G20 and it can produce just any sound.
JP2C sounds a tad different, the Mark 7 sounds closer to the original. They all sound pretty good so take your pick.
That's what I thought as well.
This is awesome.
I'd go for the JP-2C for sure.
Ola, what transformer do you use to adjust the voltage? I have a 230v mki Savage and the transformer I'm using to bring it down to 115v introduces too much noise.
WOW! Great comparison. After hearing this I really want to buy a JP2C amp, but I can't seem to find it anywhere in Europe. Is it discontinued? Anybody knows?
How would these compare to the mark 5 in the C+ setting
I have a Mark V 90 and a loaded blue stripe Mark III. And I had a Mark IV before I traded it for the Mark V 90. The Mark III can also sound like the Mark IIC+ mode in the Mark V so I assume that's pretty much the Mark IIC+ tone. I like to run the III and the V in stereo.
They sounded basically identical, other than the JP had a little more depth to the low-end, but you could probably get them even closer with tweaking. In a mix, you'd never be able to tell the difference.
I've been tossing up which to save for, and I'm thinking the JP. I like the bottom end and have 2 sets of EQ sliders would be perfect for someone that plays more than 6 string
You and Fluff gotta make some Mesa videos together ❤❤
They all sounded basically exactly the same! And... Excellent
All the amps definitely kick ass !!
I think from the comments my ears haven't failed me....I like the JP-2C the best as well! more bottom end punch while still retaining those mids. Love it!
I really think if you need the 2c+ sound in your arsenal, any will do and you're probably best off with the mark ( 5 / 7). If you really only want the mark 2c+, get the JP amp. But man they all sounded great.
We need a cab comparison. Like 3 different cabs with one amplifier.
That's an epic ostentation!
Surprisingly similar! The main difference was that the JP2C was more bassy. But I would like to know how does the Mark IV and V with their IIC+ modes stack against the VII and OG? 🤔 'Cos I remember reading that someone said that in V the IV mode is actually closer to the real IIC+ than the IIC+ mode! 🙉
I felt like the original IIc+ would cut through better in the mix compared the other modern ones.. but if I could pick I would pick the original for recording and the JP2C for a live performance.. Obviously I can't afford any one of the 3 so I can only watch 😅
Mark 7 sounds best to me personally, original 2C+ sounds a little bit compressed (again, personal opinion) and JP is quite similar to Mark 7. Cool video btw!!!🔥
