I think the snowflake is a reference to the fact that Horton Heard A Who also takes place in whovile, and in that book, whovile is a spec on a flower.
Correct and a spec of dust is a requirement to form, wait for it... A snowflake.
This means there's still hope for a Mike Myers Cat in the Hat episode.
If he does that he should get Doug/NC on, he hates that movie with a passion.
Oh my friggin god this is the best idea I’ve heard all day. You are a genius, and I hope TONY from HACK THE MOVIES sees your comment and does an episode on Cat In The Hat.
You know, the Grinch hating Christmas could've been avoided in the first place if he'd used the Manscaped Lawnmower 4.0
A shavers what started the mess to begin with
All jokes aside, Clint Howard is not a bad actor. He is not "great" but a serviceable character actor with a very recognisable face and voice
I think this version works in that the reason the Grinch hates Christmas is because he feels isolated from the Who's cause they treat him like he isn't one of them (which they do) and so he only sees the Who's and Christmas in a superficial matter, that it's all commercial and wasteful since most of what they get goes to the dump. But when he sees that Christmas is about being together with family, he begins to wish he could share in that, and tries to make amends. And the Who's having "found" Christmas realize their own prejudice of the Grinch and how they intentionally and unintentionally isolated him, by referring him as a creature, a "Grinch" as if he were a monster, but really he is just s bitter, dejected member of their community.
The Grinch: “I’m an Idiot!!”
Echo: “You’re an idiot!!”
Oh that's really mature, saying exactly what I say!
The only good part of the movie.
I worked at Toys R Us when this movie came out. It was flooded with this merch. The movie itself looked great but more over stuffed than a Roast Beast.
The movie about not getting distracted by consumerism flooded with useless merch? Ahh Hollywood.
I think Tony hates the baby grinch because it looks like a tiny green Justin Silverman
Jim Carrey sang the whole of You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch for the movie.
Martha shouting “Bettery! Hiiiiiiii!” is so iconic. My sister and I say that part every time we watch it. When I was in my freshman year in college, I was about to enter my dorm, but as I was unlocking door, I heard from my friends’ dorm next door Martha shouting that. I quickly dropped my stuff in my room and knocked on their door so I could watch the movie with them, mostly because one of my friends never saw it before so I wanted to see her reactions. She actually hates Dr. Seuss.
Hey Tony, when's that dark city review coming out? Wouldn't mind seeing Joe talk about it, too. Merry Christmas, to all at hack the movies and thanks for this channel!
Dark city would be a good review!
I was expecting Jessica to photoshop your friend Justin as a Hoostein
The stage show adaptation at Universal Orlando is excellent. It's around 30 minutes and is closer to the cartoon with the makeup effects and costumes from the live action movie.
Looks like the mean old Tony Grinch isn't happy that the latest new trailers has made his heart 3 sizes small. Thank goodness Johanna Who is talking about The Grinch 2000 with him.
What people fail to note is a lot of the issues they have with the film aren't unique to it. Things like the Grinch being hammy and insane, Cindy Lou being a more major character, are things from the radio and stage versions of the Grinch.
I hope you'll discuss the theory that The Grinch is actually part of the Matrix Cinematic Universe.
That’s a thing, I’ll have to look at that
I only have two memories about this movie, one being the PSX game being a surprisingly good game that year - and a behind the scenes where one of the extras mentions that her nose was similar like one of the who so she didn't need to wear prosthetics.
Jim Carey is so good at impressions that he could've played a convincing Grinch with a lot less makeup.
they called him "the man with the rubber face" for that reason :)
@@happywebster7151 Lemme show ya somethin!!!
Whoville is on a speck they only Horton can hear, so it would make sense that the speck would get caught in the water cycle and solidify into a snowflake
I got bullied a lot as a kid too... The day it stopped was the day I used their locker as a cheesegrater, and their head was the cheese.
The smacked my head against the wall, so I walked into the locker room, grabbed his hair and did it back to him... at least once
Remember seeing this in theaters as a kid was pretty cool also had the ornament with the Grinch in it that they had in burger king kids meals lol
Still have it
Never cared much for this movie but I still quote "This is NOT pudding" all the time 😂
It's a shame no one dressed up as the Gtinch. Maybe Crystal could've.
You will get pleanty of dressing up this month
@@HackTheMovies How about dressing down?
Asking for a friend.
@@robk.6591 I hope so 😉
The Grinch PS1 game was awsome!
My mom worked at Hollywood video from around 2000 to 2002 and we got tons of awesome games. I remember playing the Grinch game on PS1.
My sisters and i watched this movie so much and i ended up getting the video game for ps1 that Christmas. Good times lol
One of my cousins had that game!!! My family and I love this movie!
@@kdusel1991 haha badass
@@changotv5847 never beat it though. I couldn't get past the first stage 😂🤣🤣
Can confirm black Friday is still insane
Walmart 8 years associate here. Lol. Doug said it best "only in America could we have a day about giving thanks and then go beat the shit out of someone for a low priced TV"
Tony: "Cartoons are for children."
Me: "South Park too?"
That show needs to be canceled! Why would anyone allow so much foul language in children's programming
So if a Seuss character is killed, does that make it Seussicide?😁
Can't wait to see Johanna Grinch in the Die Hard parody.
I heard that the scene where the Grinch rips the table cloth off and everything still stands was first try and a mistake, that's why he comes back and rips everything off! THE FLOWERS ARE STILL STANDING
Jim Carrey and me both won a Readers Favorite Award for our books. In theory, I have the same book award as him and Jonathan Frakes!
51:10 idk if I just interpreted the scene differently but the way it ended I always assumed Cindy knew it was the Grinch.
Please review the live action Flintstones movie
That would technically be the quadrology of green Jim Carrey if you count Sgt Stars and Stripes from Kickass 2. And I definitely remember seeing in an interview that Jim found sitting in the makeup chair to be extremely torturous, and I remember hearing that Seuss himself was Jewish. And also yeah I can understand where Carrey is coming from, mainly because of the stories i've heard about contact lenses supposedly being painful to put in and because of the phobia some people have of things going in eyes. Clint Howard turns up in almost everything, he's the killer in Ice Cream Man.
Ron Howard also directed "Cinderella Man"--one of my favorite films of all time!
Taylor Momson hates when you bring up that she was Cindy. It's all about being a rockstar now.
I'm really Looking Forward to seeing "THE MEAN ONE" & I'm also looking forward to seeing your DIE HARD Christmas parody 😃🤘🤘
Fun fact: Dr. Seuss drew political cartoons during WWII against the Nazis
He was also from Springfield Massachusetts which I live very near too. I live the next town over in Ludlow, there's a Dr. Seuss museum in Springfield.
They definitely blazed up before this review hahaha
The only way to get through that movie 😂
@@EvaFull oh definitely lol
The Who's don't live in a snowflake exactly. Just like in Horton Hears A Who, Whovile exists on a spec of dust. And how are snowflakes formed? When evaporated water begins to freeze around pollen or dust particles in the atmosphere. So, Whovile isn't always surrounded by a snowflake, just when it's cold.
I heard the contacts he wore to have the yellow eyes were extremely uncomfortable.
And this movie had an amazing and the best soundtrack of where are you Christmas by Faith Hills
I loved the Red Dragon Episode, I watched it twice.
You left out the other pitches that were rejected, including the Farrelly Brothers and John Hughes
This feels like listening to two people who recently suffered a stroke.
I love this movie, but I do think you really had to be in a certain age range to like it. I was 8 when it came out lol
I love this movie too. My family and I try to watch it every Christmas!! I think this movie gets the point of the book somewhat, not as well as the animated one but certainly better than the 2018 Grinch with Benedict Cumberbatch.
Christmas 2001 I got the VHS tapes for the 1966 & 2000 How The Grinch Stole Christmas along with a bunch of the toys from the movie. My siblings and I watched this movie so many times. I still love this version of the Grinch as well as the original.
Check out my review of the TV cut
ruclips.net/video/q3NrDfDo-kk/видео.html
this movie gave me nightmares as a child and i still think its way too much sensory overload
1:06:02 "I'm fancy" 🤣
13:51 The Blu-Ray version of this movie has vibrant colors that pop off the screen and melt your eyes. However, the DVD version is dark, drab and very muted. Obviously not a very good transfer of the film.
Saint Nicholas or Nikola in eastern orthodoxy is a patron saint of sailors, the poor, homeless, students, merchants and children. Some say even archers.
I knew sailors was one of them!
Tony you are going to LOOOOVE the rendition of the Grinch song in the NEWER Grinch movie lol.
It's fine and fun.
I see that RED RYDER B.B GUN behind JOHANNA 😃🤘🤘
I think in terms of the original story, yeah, it misses the point. Now, looking at it from a more modern capitalistic obsessed version of the holiday that Christmas has mostly become... then this film tends to hit the mark.
It's still better than the 2018 Grinch and the cat in the hat with mike myers which literally had an ad for universal studios in the middle of the film.
@@kdusel1991 Only good moment from CitH was him cutting off his tail and cursing.
Holy crap! I didn't know Bryce Dallas Howard was in this!
The closed captioning literally said "anti-suesite" 😂
First half was a origin, and the 2nd part was being faithful to the book.
Also i never liked the animated one cause the who's are never likable cause they make nose and didnt learn lesson.
At least carry version they did learn a lesson
I call dibs on the new chick! Oh...wait...that's just Johanna without glasses. I didn't realize it was her until she put her glasses back on. DIBS!
Release The Who-stein cut!
Jew whos, the unofficial official canon😂
How dare you insinuate I got the role of mayor’s assistant because of my brother Ron Howard!
The little Whos are larval forms of Whos, like nymphs in the insect world. And Martha is way into interspecies romance that is obvious at the motorboat scene when she makes zero attempts to push him away.
Top 3 fav Christmas movie 😌
You should review grandma's boy or noobz
Arcade is another one I would love to see a review on.
I've always loved this movie even with all of the problems it has. I remember playing the ps1 game a lot as a kid and never beat it.🤣 Is the book and 60's animated movie better? Yes, but this was always a lot of fun. What do we think of The Grinch with Benedict Cumberbach?
I agree. I think the Cumberbatch Grinch is a bad adaptation that doesn't get the overall message that this film, the classic karloff version and the book does. It falls flat, especially since Cindy Lou in that version has no personality, she's just a typical cliche kid. The others at least have some qualities from the source material.
And now I'm watching this on New Year's Eve.
tony questioning the grinch when he wearing a tingle hat?
I forgot about this channel. It's so good!
I promptly watched and loved the Red Dragon special. Also, fun fact - Syphon Filter is the best video game ever made
I loved the exorcist 3 reference. Well done!
I first saw the TV cut and always remembered the light show competition. So when I didn’t see it while watching the DVD I was confused. So hearing that there’s different cuts has brought closure to that. Anyone know if you can buy the TV cut as an extended version of the film?
I'd like to know too cause I swear I've seen the full gift exchange scene on the DVD.
The air plane plushie you have, won one for my girlfriend at a county fair once. Also the 2019 grinch movie isn’t terrible, it’s not the worst movie ever but it is good to watch
Good review, Johanna was funny as usual. Looking forward to the next Ernest review tho, thanks
whos are bad in a cartoon too
i was on grinch's side
you literally can't sleep over all that noise
i live in ab appartment i know how it sounds when below you they knife fight on the right they beat kids on the left they drill walls 24/7 and above anbeaten kids play football in iron shoes with iron weights till 2-00
How many times has Johanna listened to Bob Dylan's song "Visions of Johanna"? If she's never listened to it she 100% should, else-wise how is she going to get the reference?
In fact, anyone who reads this should listen to "Visions of Johanna", both the album version and the live version on "The Real Royal Albert Hall 1966 Concert". If that live version doesn't make you feel ways about stuff then you're probably a vampire who has no feelings, empathy or compassion. Just a cold, heartless, blood-sucking vampire who has no friends and is a big stupid jerk.
I'd say the Who Santa is more like IRL Santa; Just a pretend tradition for kids.
Haha this was on the to watch list for the wife and I today how convenient. I love this movie only part I can't stand is the girl singing.
Soon we'll get a Fourth version of the Grinch
Nice
Yet people forget that theres a Snow White horror movie from the 90s with Sam Neill and Sigourney Weaver
Love it!
I'm really looking forward to 'The Mean One'
Fun idea, but the execution looks very uninspired and amateurish. Same with the "Blood and Honey" movie, though to a lesser degree.
@@dreamlandnightmare Another one I'm looking forward to lol.
I'm not overly concerned about production value when it comes to low budget movies and lesser known directors. If it's entertaining enough I'll still enjoy it.
@@Bill_198 The thing with these lower budget movies is that the talent, effort and imagination usually match the budget.
@@dreamlandnightmare So? They can still be entertaining. I'm a fan of the Terrifier movies and looking forward to seeing David Howard Thornton (aka Art the Clown) as the "Mean One".
@@dreamlandnightmare I'm surprised Disney hasn't sued the production, though I am aware that this is based off the characters from the books and not the disney versions.
Man I missed Johanna
Can you review Black Christmas 1974 if you haven't done that yet
Really? The Grinch lifts a sleigh like the Hulk and we're not gonna make a 'Santa With Muscles' reference?
Hey Tony, you going to do a comparison to the work print(s?) floating around the internet/private collections? 🧐 🧐 🧐
There will he a follow up on the TV cut of the film
@@HackTheMovies The work print(s) are supposed to be super rare/hard to find. One is like 2 hours long. Makes you wonder how much was repurposed from the Work Print(s) for the TV Edit that airs. 🤔 🤔
I love ❤️ this movie 🎬 to death
So do I!!
@@kdusel1991 niceee! 😃
I’ve never seen the 1960’s cartoon
I would imagine the Whoosteins would worship Jewhoova
I mean Whoohova, that's embarrassing
Hi just saw this fun video, anyway just wanted to share a few things that I thought you might enjoy. One if memory serves Cindy Lou Who was only two in the book thus her interacting with "Santa clause" works a lot better there as opposed to this movie where she's what 10, 12? Second Whoville very well COULD be on a snowflake as well in "Hortin hears a who" Whovill is actually on a speck of dust that's resting on a flower Hortin could hear the Whos easily because he was an Elephant and thus huge ears and good hearing the other animals couldn't hence the plot point that everyone in Whovill needing to make noise to help him prove there was indeed life there.
The snowflake is a callback to horton hears a who where those who’s live on a small speck of dust
Not a bad adaptation, but wildly unneccessary imo.
Just wait until you see The Mean One.
Seinfeld writers no wonder it's not funny. Every time Jim says Max I keep wishing I was watching Liar Liar instead
By and large yes it misses the point
You can’t change the storyline🤷♂️
Wasn’t the snowflake thing from the cartoon movie?
I like this film for what it is, fun & fine. It's got a lot of funny memorable moments and lines. Could it have been a little bette? Sure. We'll usually watch it every yr.
Also had the playstation game it was pretty fun but not easy
Considering the artistry, costumes and makeup that went into this production. Plus the absolute commitment from Jim Carrey, I've forgiven the excesses of this movie and have come to enjoy it. Now, don't get me started on the Illumination version. 😵😣😤😒
