    With a tempo of 194 bpm, shifting time signatures and multiple riffs Dyers Eve is one of Metallica's hardest hitting songs. It's perhaps one of their most difficult to perform as well. Recorded in '88, it wasn't played live until 2004. Let me know any riffs that are causing you problems and I'll do a 'Spotlight On' video. First time seeing your channel. This has long been my favorite Metallica song. I've seen several different explanations regarding the 2323/2222 debate. Doesn't really matter. I play it 2323 just because I think it's more fun to play it that way. I've seen the live versions and Lars does the drums a little simpler as well. This took me years to learn and I can still only do it on a good day. Look forward to seeing more and getting into your previous videos.

    Hello Tim, just wanted to start with saying your videos are amazing. The amount of time and effort you put into these videos to learn exactly how Metallica plays these song don studio versions and live is amazing.
    I’ve been playing the guitar for about a year and half. I really want to play lead guitar and solos but I can’t seem to pull off any solos even at slower tempos like an AC/DC solo. Do you have any advice for where to start?

    I've been playing this song since the 90s and never did i ever even consider that it was 2,3,2,3. Makes no sense to complicate things so much for an almost imperceptible effect! Its James chugging so hard the strings bend a little. I did however only just find out that the song was never actually played in full in the studio. Saw a clip of Lars and Kirk saying to an interviewer "dont hold your breath " when asked if they would play it live! And they revealed it was kind of created by throwing already recorded riffs together. It was never a planned, thought out track.

    Very tough song. The crazy and constant swing changes and speed make it very tough.
    The timing is manageable, the hardest lart is getting the swing.
    Blackened is still harder to play though hahah

    Another amazing lesson, Tim! Quick question - I’ve been noticing that you always play power chords with your index and pinky. I think Kirk and James do too. I’ve always played them with index and ring fingers - do you think that causes any problems? Can you discuss that difference a bit?

    • @TimHolman
      @TimHolman  Год назад +3

      I don't think there's a huge difference. It's mostly a preference thing. However, when I teach a song I model the artist as much as possible. That's why I'm always using my pinkie. To be as close to Metallica as possible. I believe Kerry King uses his third finger so when I eventually do a Slayer song you'll see me using that method instead. There are certain riffs that experimenting can be beneficial though. Phantom Lord comes to mind as a riff that I think is easier to play and get clean when using my pinkie. It naturally puts my thumb in a different position (wrapped around the neck). Having both methods under your belt can give you options for playing different riffs.
