This song is a real nice bop. I love the sinister undertones of using your bloody hands to wash the unclean. It adds a nice twist to what on paper sounds like a catchy faith song.
The subtext in the little details is just perfect, in particular the “Lets take it one step further” since I imagine that’s how real cults convince people to do horrible things, by simply asking them to take “one more step” until they’re waist deep in blood and fanaticism

This song is as anti-religion as it gets, though I do hope your pastor was able to hear past the upbeat rhythm and understand the warning it gives throughout. “Some say we're doomed in the heart of our belief Death stilled their lips and maintained the peace we keep” Nothing would be cooler than a pastor openly acknowledging the danger blind faith represents, and the way it can justify the worst of acts in its defense. After all, if you offer faith as a foundation of stability upon which people in despair can build their lives, you’re responsible for what they’ll do once someone else questions it, and they have no answer to give.

This song is absolutely perfect for one of the antagonists of the D&D campaign I run. Ahbus, The Good Doctor. A demigod, patron of the innocent, the downtrodden, and the less fortunate. He believes in helping people through your own power, and so despises magic as well as clerics. He forges new life through the death of the oppressors and criminals, those he deems *unclean*. All through healing fire.

Ahbus would try kill *any* criminals and oppressors. That actually included the rouge of my party. Eventually it got to the point where he was planning to secede. "In the willows I will raise my steeple, my spirit, my church, *my people* ". He had jumped immediately into action, instead of finding a peaceful solution. This again put him at odds with the party. He wasn't a villain, but he was certainly an antagonist.

'the path to hell is paved with good intentions'. As Cat described, he is willing to perform a cleansing of anyone that has done anything wrong. Not only is that disproportionate, but the cult like methods are not going to lead to a better society in the long run. Not only is he doing evil things in the band of good, his ways are going to cause even more harm, which in my eyes easily makes him a villain.
