Probably my favourite ever F1 game, the handling and force feedback were spot on. It was just such a nice step from f1 2017 in terms of sounds, physics etc. Great memories
F1 2018 seriously doesn’t get enough recognition. Sure it was a bit tame when it was sort of a copy and paste of 16 and 17. But it was so much fun. And it holds a special place in my heart as it gave me one of the greatest F1 career mode seasons I had the pleasure to be apart of
2018 was also the last game where everyone was still playing ranked instead of unranked because you were able to invite friends to ranked lobbies and have RL cars. Good times.
Highly recommend going back to the old games once in a while, especially when you feel 'tired' of the current! Ive been on a classic cars kick lately so I've been playing a lot of 2020 and it's really fun/refreshing.
I got into F1 a couple of months back and seen that F1 2018 was the highest rated/cheapest game available so chose to get into that. I really enjoyed it. Going from that to 22 felt weird as hell
My favorite F1 game too. Also the favorite of most of my friends with whom I still play F1 online. I say often when I'm playing F1 2022 with them, that i'm only going to spend more money in this series, when the general consensus for the next game is that it feels like F1 2018 reincarnate.
Probably my 2nd favourite F1 game after 2020, I love driving the cars and there isn't anywhere as much of the annoying understeer that made me hate 2019
OMG that was a trip down memory lane, first the names in the lobby and then your old room with the excellent red Thrustmaster wheel, happy times. thanks for the content JD , means a lot to so many of us that have watched you over the years.
Yes, I agree & feel that F1 2018 & 2020 are also amongst my favourites, but because F1 2018 has revolutionary career mode team management elements & unique immersive innovations in that mode such as driver interviews/press conferences that can also help/hinder the success of the development of your team, as well as a wide variety of classic cars & championship modes to be unlocked (even though many of them are reverse grid races). What's special about F1 2020 is that it had the brand new innovative My Team career mode- revolutionary innovations that career mode junkies such as Aarava for example & myself would enjoy the most experiencing & exploring those particular games!
Back in F1 05 I used to race 100% races with alonso on his renault with the ps2 controller, back when I was 10 yo. I finished every race with my fingers on fire as you had to press the x button hard to accelerate to 100%, but that was a lot of fun
outside of the game F1 irl was just in a great shape at the time, very little controversy week in week out. Races that were great because of racing not just because there is carnage everywhere. Also the last year before many new fans (who are very welcome btw) have made the tickets insanely expensive ever since sadly because of exces demand.
The year 2018 is the year I found sim racing and fell in love and it became a hobby. Bought G29 and the sim rig. And this game was my Go-To game when I had 30min of free time, and I just wanted to have a quick race against the AI. That year I also found this channel and enjoyed watching league racing. And ever since F1 2018, I think it all went downhill. Bugs that were never properly fixed, and the game engine is still the same. We need a completely new game, coded from the ground up.
Also one of the things I loved about it is the ability to control your ers deployment so much. It involves so many tactics whereas in recent games just 2 modes of ers in the race is so frustrating. If I wanna deploy 0 ers for a lap I should be able to do so
I never played this game when it first released but lately it's been one of the few games I can play since my sister gave me her old PS4 after selling my Xbox a few months back. Been watching your setup vids and having a tonne of fun with the time trial and 110% career mode. The setups really feel good on controller with the high roll bar setups when compared to the lower roll bar setups used by many. Great game for sure.
luckily in F1 22 with the 1.14 patch they buffed the traction of the Joypad so now it's easier to push the throttle hard but the input delay is ridiculous
I play F1 2018 everyday. My first F1 game was F1 2021, but I bought F1 2018 Steam key from internet, it was about 2€ and I've been playing it since may 2022, if I remember right and I have now 145 hours played, or little bit more. Just shut down my computer and of course playing F1 2018.
F1 2018 is my favourite out of all of the F1 games i've played. It is also the F1 game i've played the most. The career and multiplayer is a highlight (the connectivity on multiplayer is a plus as well, always joined into a big lobby) . I have fond memories of it.
damn dude, I can even see how much better it handles based on how the screen reacts to your inputs, crazy that even visually there is way more depth compared to 2022
i remember playing this at the start of lockdown with a controller, was such a good game. codies need to look back to f1 2018 for their games from now on
You can always put the podium in compatibility mode so the game thinks it’s a clubsport base instead 👌🏼 in case you go back to wanting to play older games
2018 is the highest rated version on xbox, with 2019 very close behind. The poor car sounds and relatively primitive FFB make both those versions inferior to 2020 for me. I'm on 2020 now while I wait for 22 to be fixed (previous patch broke the game with wheel on console.)
I recently got into sim racing, got myself a wheel and I've been plaing F1 2018 for a few days now since I got it basically for free on steam a few years ago. It is great fun.
I was about to tweet about this actually... I can't play the f1 22 for more than 10mins and when I go back to f1 2018 I just keep on playing... I don't know but it just feels good and I like the classic cars too... Especially the McLaren from 2000s not the 2007 one... It was such an awesome game
What I don't understand is how some things improve each year but also some things get worse. I hated 19 engine sounds, 18 had more track details visually than 20, 22 has the worst controller feedback, lobby stability down since 19. When they improve some things, other seem to go downhill
I´ve enjoyed 18 a lot due to the FFB. The back feels heavier so you actually feel when the car is about to slip. In 22 the understeer is so enhanced that the car is so light to turn that I get zero indication that the traction is about to drop and I fucking hate it
I hated 2018 and 2019 because of the ERS system. It might've been more realistic to have so many modes of deployment but it was soo annoying to drive especially on controller
Spend the most time on this game out of all of them as it was definitely one of the most satisfying and polished experiences as a wheel user on PC imo!
F1 2018, that's an interesting experience for me. It was pretty much a 2.0 version of 2017, so in this perspective, 2018 was a bit lacklustre. But the overall gameplay was improved, so rating 2018 above 2017 is a no-brainer. The handling became more twitchy but more fun. I can generally feel how fast the cars are particularly in corners. Battling with the AI is very interesting, they are very fast and able to attack for positions. Although they can be stupid sometimes such as brake-testing you after making an overtake. Career R&D found the balance between developing the car too fast in 2016 and too slow in 2017. Interviews were finally back since 2011, although I didn't enjoy them too much😂 And finally, they got the engine noise right that year! I really enjoyed listening to the noise when I got the game. When 2018 was the newest F1 game, I really liked it and it was my favourite. I considered it the best and most complete F1 game at the time. Now I look back, since the later games got even better, 2018 is unspectacular but still decent.
Still racing it today, together with a modded version of F1 Challenge 99-02 (and my PC can't handle F1 2019 and up) :( I just wish the pit stops were completely manual like in F1C99-02.
Im reloading my 16,17,18 games now. New challenge. I’m sure I won’t be able to use some of my old setups. Cause I didn’t get all the way away TC and ABS till after those. But want to play some those old tracks I liked.
Yep, I think that was the version I put most hours into (on controller, single-player only). I played f1 22 over the weekend during the free weekend on Steam, and just didn't find the fun in it, felt like hard work and never really in control of the car :( Like you say, I'm not after 'realism' at the expense of control/fun. Didn't put many hours into f1 2020, which is the last one I bought, but I might go back to it again. Interested on your thoughts on 2020 version.
great, cant wait for the 2020 version, I was playing on the pad and I had a magical time driving around in that game, compared to f1 22 where I had a dreadful time
I've gotta say this interesting. I feel handling more predictable on this year's game. F1 22 is the closest I've been to WRs. I used to be 3s off on 2021 and worse than that on 2019 for the same tracks. However I think it was Monaco where I'm like 1,5s on 22. Yeah, not much, heart rate won't reach 100bpm but feels good to be closer. So, i think it varies year to year and driver to driver how our driving styles adapt. Or maybe I've got more to learn, therefore gain in terms of time.
Which one was the last one before they introduced formula 2? I can't recall which one that was, but it had lots of classic f1 cars to try out on any track. I miss that.
2020 was my favourite game, as I always felt fast around there. F1 2018 was my first year league racing though, I have good memories and always remember having consistency but just lacking the raw pace and usually ended up finishing around 4th-6th. The lack of raw pace and the tyre temp issues made my not like it as much as 2020.
I just downloaded F1 2020 and didn't realise how bad F1 22 was. It was so much better with a controller and multiplayer actually connected. I have trouble with F1 22. I have to keep taking my internet cable out and put back in to play multi and it takes ages to sign back in.
It felt very samey to f1 2017 in the menus and career mode lost a lot of charm. On 2016 and 17 you'd be sat in the hospitality but you'd know where you were in the world just by the surroundings. Since 2018 you're sat with a laptop and it's the same every track you go.
So actually F1 22 the terrible grip means races are more exciting because everyone is having countless traction moments and occasional spins. Games with too much traction may be fun to drive but the races are more boring because hardly anyone is making mistakes and everyone is the same speed. The fact that F1 22 requires ultimate skill to not make mistakes makes it exciting to me. For instance, my TT times and fast race lap times are not that great HOWEVER I make less mistakes than most people and routinely finish better than guys who are quicker than me but cant put together a solid 50% race. I like this. It's a skill issue. Also, news flash NONE of us knows what the traction feels like in a real F1 car.. So there is that.
Great video man, I loves the 2018 game Please do similar video for 2017, 2019 and 2020 also And you should do a video about you and xmattyg and noble on 2012/13
And when I talk about the game being realistic I always say that it doesn’t have to be realistic, you don’t buy the f1 codes games for the most realistic experience, it should be fun and fast
F1 2017 was the best alongside f1 2013 I really want f1 23 to have all F1 cars that have in their game and all tracks that have been in the f1 games which is not going to happen 💔
F1 2019 my favourite F1 game because the more stable cars, F1 2018 second, F1 Challenge 99-02 third. F1 2020 have the second worst cars because cars unstable like hell (F1 2021 first).
Probably my favourite ever F1 game, the handling and force feedback were spot on. It was just such a nice step from f1 2017 in terms of sounds, physics etc. Great memories
Fr well said
Back when traction was close to real life
I have the F1 2018 and the traction is something really different from 2021 and 2020, i mean, i feel more "free" to push the trottle in the 2018...

F1 2018 was my first F1 game and it's definitely one of my favorites. I would say F1 2020 is also one of my more recent favorites as well
Mine too. Bought G29 and simrig. The rest is history. Now, I have a phobia even installing F1 games. :)
wow, it was my first F1 game too, it's definitely the best from Codemasters, alongside F1 2020.

2018 had a lot of float and quick snaps which were far closer to reality than to the cruise ship with wings of 2022
Somehow the fun in gaming is getting less and less. I think because of loading times and also when you are never happy with your lap times.
The year 2018 is the year I found sim racing and fell in love and it became a hobby. Bought G29 and the sim rig. I had a blast on this game, 2019 was more understeery but fun.
2020 onwards really went down hill imo.
Strategy has died since 2022 unfortunately. On f12018 in a 50% race some people did 1 stop other did 3 stops.
I've been playing a lot of F1 2018 on my Steam Deck, feels amazing with the haptics.
ive been playing this for ages and never played the new games its so much better
Man all those names from back on f1 2018... the nostalgia!

I hated 2018 and 2019 because of the ERS system. It might've been more realistic to have so many modes of deployment but it was soo annoying to drive especially on controller

One of the best F1 games iv ever played, it had everything classic cars, f1 2018-20 my favourite f1 games 😊
Personally I think 2019 was really good and underrated, although I don't miss messing about with the ers every 2 seconds 😂
Probably the game with the most realistic engine sounds from codies from 2018 cuz assetto corsa f1 mods sound like real life.

Please do similar video for 2017, 2019 and 2020 also
And you should do a video about you and xmattyg and noble on 2012/13
Video games prove that our real earth is flat and motionless, car racing games, flight simulator games are proving that our earth is not spinning.
And when I talk about the game being realistic I always say that it doesn’t have to be realistic, you don’t buy the f1 codes games for the most realistic experience, it should be fun and fast
F1 2017 was the best alongside f1 2013
I really want f1 23 to have all F1 cars that have in their game and all tracks that have been in the f1 games which is not going to happen 💔
Hey bring F1 2013 Career mode! Would be awesome!
F1 2019 my favourite F1 game because the more stable cars, F1 2018 second, F1 Challenge 99-02 third. F1 2020 have the second worst cars because cars unstable like hell (F1 2021 first).
