I cried for days, he was my idol and my inspiration to become a racing driver . Wet weather master, and genius, his heel and toe, and left foot breaking was incredible
the most impressive aspect of Senna wasnt his massive hunger to win, nor his insane ability to drive even against all odds. its that, despite all of this, he NEVER left his humanity behind. it was always at the forefront. and this is why so many of his competitors, not only respected him, but genuinely loved him as a brother. he would get out and help someone in the middle of a race. because to him, more important than winning, was being a human being.
Bernie's world. No way that man would lose a buck if he tried. Canceling races, running them in blind conditions, poor safety management. Farewell and adieu to you Spanish ladies.
Unfortunatly i was too young to have watched him race live and only heard so many great things about this legend as a race car driver but i never knew how much he cared for his fellow drivers! what a great man and role model.
Remember watching this live as a little boy, running into the garden to tell my mum Senna had crashed. He was not only the greatest F1 driver, but an exceptional human being. @@JIA1327 that year FIA banned dynamic suspension.. so his move to Williams didn't help him get the edge he was looking for. His crash was due to steering column failure
@@JIA1327the FIA banned the use of the dynamic suspension which actually as a result made the car more dangerous. Because the car had been fully designed using the dynamic suspension, without it the car wasn’t as stable as a F1 car that had never had it. How they never canceled the whole race after Roland Ratzenburger died is baffling to me!! I was six, a Senna fan thanks to my father, this was the death that made me realize what death really was and the feeling of loss that came with it. Now with 36 still remember vividly that moment.
Watched the vid on a browser and came here... I have always been a fan of Senna despite being a kid when he was racing... and everytime I read or watch something related to his departure, tears flood my eyes... for me, the best F1 driver.
Senna will live on through all the people who loved him, he was not just a great driver but more importantly a great human. The best racing driver of all time, and not because he is no longer with us, he was simply the best ever.
Yep, you only had to watch him manually shift gears, at high speed, tearing around corners, one hand on the wheel, overtaking everyone on a rain soaked track to know he was and still is the best
Damn, I didn't want to but I'm sitting here crying as I watch this video and saw what happened inside the car. I had thought it was head trauma that killed him, it was the suspension piece boring into his skull. He wouldn't have lived no matter what they tried to do. God was ready for Ayrton Senna, even if he wasn't ready to go. RIPeace great man, till we all meet up again. I'm crying because I hate stories of unfulfilled destinies, but also because that Sunday morning I was in bed watching the race from my TV set. After the crash. He seemed to move his head. I saw the helmet move and thought to myself, ok, that was bad but he's going to be alright... 🙏🏻🙏🏾✝️💪🏻💪🏽
Senna was a great man he gave a lot to charity and his country he gave is all to formula 1 racing he is a legend and one of the greatest drivers of all time you are a legend rip senna😊
I was prrparing for my undergrad final exams when this happened. I was shocked and devastated. Senna was the reason I got interested in Formula 1. It took me a long time to accept that a great driver like him could pass away the way it happened.
People went unpunished for the recklessness that led to that tragedy. F1 has achieved some distance from it by now, but those of us who remember and know what caused Sennas death, will always see that coverup as a blight on our sport.
At the tender age of 8, while viewing alongside my father on television in South Africa, I was captivated by the exceptional prowess of Senna, who remains an enduring hero in my eyes.
Every single Brazilian I know, who was old enough to understand, know where they were when Senna died. I knew of his death when I was very little because my mom would always tell me how she was a teenager in her living room when she watched the crash. I knew of Ayrton’s death before I had ever watched cars racing and I only first learned of F1 because of it
i completely forgot that Eric Comas simply drove there in his car. my heart sank to my feet once again. such tragedy. the fact so much blood was lost and it literally rained on the cars below was all you needed to know and it was a crime that the race still went on, after it was already a crime it started in the first place. the sad thing about all of this was that had Senna actually decided to boycot and not race, he would have lived. he would not have raced, but he never raced more than 7 laps that day either. there are many conspiratory stories, including assassination by (sniper) gunfire, supposedly indicated by the hole in the helmet, the reason being exactly the proposed boycot and that senna, as claimed, threatened to come out with the truth that they knew Ratzenberger was dead upon impact and that they should have cancelled, which has been claimed involved Italian mafia. Far out stuff? perhaps. probably. but, it encompasses the severity of that weekend. it was the darkest moment in F1 history. the weekend of Bianchi's death was eerily similar though.
I must admit I love conspiracy theories but don't believe the train of thought that he was shot. That hole at the top of his helmet looks too round and precise though?
@@EssimLien Nothing to do with his death. Simple statement of fact. Because of his death we will never know what he may of achieved. My opinion, not yours.
@@justthetruth870 lol again your opinion is bullshit and based on ur own personal baised he is clearly not even top 5 f1 drivers and more f1 drivers have achieved way more, and we don't need to speculate on what he could achieve but judge him on what he did achieve and he is far from the best
A friend of mine was working for Williams at the time and he’s adamant that it was Ayrton that purposely cut the steering column the night before the race. He wasn’t happy with the distance of the wheel from him, so took matters into his own hands. Being a hands-on mechanical guy, this stacks up. The team were then left with no option other than to patch the steering column up as best as possible. The rest is history. Whether this is true or not, I guess we’ll never know but absolutely tragic whichever way you look at it. 😢
The medic who was with Senna throughout the whole treatment stated the blood loss was so severe that as the helicopter tilted to land the blood collected and poured off the stretcher and was spread due to the spinning rotors.
At some point in the TV broadcast you could see a pool of blood on the ground. It was just for a second though before they changed the camera as they realized what they had just shown
And to this day, Rubens still has no memory of his accident and he was very lucky to only suffer a broken nose cause the way he crashed so suddenly from 150mph to zero, that should have been a fatal accident or severely injured
I'm new to F1 and I found this video to be very informative and well put. It's unfortunate that there are people who prefer watching f1 where the pilots drive these little and unsafe cars, calling themselves as men who like to watch the race with "pure skill and adrenaline" while the legendary and skillful Ayrton Senna concerned about the safety regulations and the cars' safety technology.
06:22. I remember watching this scene live on TV and noticing that big red stain going down his chest. I knew his racing suit was white and blue, no red, so immediately I knew that this was very bad. Not a lot of people noticed that back then.
I still think about Ayrton all the time,I cried so hard when he passed.Ive never watched formula 1 since that day.I have kept all my Ayrton Senna books and all my Auto sport magazines that have Ayrton in them I’m now 62 but remember that day as if it was yesterday.
Saw this race live on TV, then hours later got a phone from a friend telling the horrible news. Started watching F1 because of him, hence could not watch F1 anymore until many years later. What a travesty that the race still proceed. FIA got Senna's blood on their hands. I never forget the 1st May.
Yeah that was an odd choice to include in this. I think every other piece of footage that was used was from the right time period, but they choose to throw in the bahrain race where Grosjean escaped death. Weird...
@jonslayr4901 Yeah possibly. Didn't detract from the overall quality of the video. Just a passing comment really. Such a sad day for the world in general. I was only like 5 when it happened but growing up as such a huge fan of F1, I quickly learned the impact that it had on everyone.
Well made video man, brought a lot of memories.. Greetings for the good job. 👍👍 On that day, May 1st 1994, we were at my mom's village celebrating local labor day. I was 21, and me and my cousin 22, were a huge F1 fans. It was a hot summer day and we stayed outside, when my cousin said "I'll go inside and switch on the TV so we can watch F1". The TV was black & white and needed couple of minutes to "work properly", and the tv-antenna signal wasn't very strong, but that didn't matter for us. I was still outside drinking beer with my people when my cousin has shouted with head out of the window - There was a big crash! Come fast to see! I entered the house and couldn't believe my eyes.. We've been watching silently the live broadcast without even looking at each other. It was frightening, we've never seen someone dying on a live broadcast before. Senna was one of my favorite drivers and a great sportsman. On that day the F1 industry has lost it's biggest star, brightest star, and the most humbled man that ever drove a formula one car. R.I.P Aerton.. 🥺
The Brazilian Government should have sued the FIA organization for wrongful death on a sudden change of rules and they did not stopped the race when 1 driver already dead.
I remember watching this race on tv as a teenager. I couldn't believe what I had just seen. Years later I watched the documentary Senna and learned so much more. Your video made me feel even more shocked and appalled than I had at the time of Senna's death. FIA just doesn't care about the men driving those cars. Senna was one of the greatest! Wonder what he would think of F1 of this generation.
OK. Comas didn't try to save Senna. Sorry, but that is simply not true. What happened is that Comas entered the pits with some mechanical problems right before Senna crashed. The team managed to fix the car, and then a misunderstanding in the conversation with the race direction is what happened. They asked about the restart procedure and if they were allowed to rejoin the race. Race direction told them it would be a standing start from the grid and they indeed were allowed to rejoin the race, which the team misunderstood as they could do so right away. So they started Comas' car engine and sent him out. That's what happened. It's pretty stupid to think that 15 minutes after the crash, Comas just went out on his own to check on Senna. Please...
Best I ever saw by the eye test. He just looked faster than everyone. My gosh at the time I thought Prost was so good and then Senna showed me that there’s a difference between greatness and artistry.
As a Brazilian, I can tell you all. It was like loosing a family member. Sunday mornings, were never the same. I simply stopped watching F1. His name lives on!
I watched it. I knew when I saw the crash and his head slum 4:20 p. It still gets me watching this much sorrow because it was Senna Ruben and Roland. Even worse than Dale Earnhardt dying at Daytona and I'm a fan of both
🙏 We didn't have internet , RUclips or smartphone back then in 1994 ... Now we slowly beginning to piece together what went wrong in this San Marino F1 race that caused two F1 drivers lives that tragic weekend ... 🕯🌼🌿🌏🕊
That was probably the most important F1 weekend in the modern era, if not ever. It really hasn't been the same since with an emphasis on safety. Ironically the only other driver killed since (Bianchi) died crashing into a piece of safety equipment designed to quickly remove a car in the gravel. Somewhat surprised there has never been a movie made about it as they did with Rush and Lauda's crash being a pivotal point in the movie. Black Imola would be a good working title.
A lifelong Ayrton supporter and overall a good job with this compilation. First time I had seen a picture of the race helmet , it was obviously sad to see but helped us understand that there was no way or possibility to save him.

I was Senna's fan in my childhood in China. There were not a lot of ways to watch live so the best way is to keep watching TV until there are sports news and I can see the highlights. I still remember the day of his death, that I was shocked by this sad news. As a 9 year old boy, I cried. He's a legend of F1! 30 years later, I spent time with my wife to watch all the videos about Aryton, and he IS the one to respect!
🤜🏻🤛🏻
I cried for days, he was my idol and my inspiration to become a racing driver . Wet weather master, and genius, his heel and toe, and left foot breaking was incredible
shouldn’t idolize someone, God says we shouldn’t idolize that’s a sin
@@jaliswervin4465 Figure of speech my friend . Meaning inspiration
@@jaliswervin4465 Not everyone believes in your god, or any god. Grow up.
the most impressive aspect of Senna wasnt his massive hunger to win, nor his insane ability to drive even against all odds.
its that, despite all of this, he NEVER left his humanity behind. it was always at the forefront. and this is why so many of his competitors, not only respected him, but genuinely loved him as a brother.
he would get out and help someone in the middle of a race. because to him, more important than winning, was being a human being.
Saw this race live. Two deaths in one race. Unbelievable!
You mean 2 deaths and one serious injory in one weekend?
Bernie's world. No way that man would lose a buck if he tried. Canceling races, running them in blind conditions, poor safety management. Farewell and adieu to you Spanish ladies.
@@KayoMichiels no.hes right. 2 deaths
His death was so poignant. It had a greater impact on my life than anyone else that I had not known personally. If there is a heaven, Senna is in it ❤
Comas rushing to the scene with his car wanting to help his friend is truly heartbreaking to witness
Rest in peace, Ayrton Senna, Murray Walker, Dr. Sid Watkins. Each and every one of you is a legend.

Correction: Ayrton didn't go to Williams for a more powerful car, he moved for their dynamic suspension. This suspension tech gave drivers edge when it came to taking corners in 93 season
Did'nt seem to help avoid the crash , did it ??
@@JIA1327 that year FIA banned dynamic suspension.. so his move to Williams didn't help him get the edge he was looking for.
His crash was due to steering column failure
@@JIA1327the FIA banned the use of the dynamic suspension which actually as a result made the car more dangerous. Because the car had been fully designed using the dynamic suspension, without it the car wasn’t as stable as a F1 car that had never had it. Its like the Euro Fighter Typhoon, it cant fly without the help of computers. They essentially sealed his fate when they banned it, personally I think because the top dogs had issues with Senna. He would never stop trying and would continue to push the car to the limits, thats what made him the force that he was. The car failed him, the FIA failed him and ultimately the world lost a saint.
It was the suspension that killed him!
How they never canceled the whole race after Roland Ratzenburger died is baffling to me!! I get it, money is important for sponsors and race organizers, but this race would never go on today… the drivers should’ve all protested to postpone the race out of respectful Ratzenberger. Now we’ve lost a legend as well. Who knows if it was pushed to another weekend maybe he’d still be around right now. God only knows!
30 years now😢❤ sadly missed❤ we love you senna❤🇧🇷
I wasn't even born when this happen. Ever since i joined the F1 fandom i have heard so much about Senna. This is heartbreaking. Moments before his death it feels like he knew, in fact almost everyone knew. Roland Ratzenberger death at qualifying, crash at the start all of these and they still continued.
I feel like something stuck on my throat. I am crying for someone i never knew up until recently. It's clear that this man was so great, so great that not just his generation but upcoming all generation will know about him. It's sad that even such a great manlike Senna couldn't avoid death. Rest in peace❤ i wish i was able to witness his racing and his wins. I hope all the current f1 drivers never go through tragedy like this again.
Still angers me when I see that video of that marshal tipping barrichello’s car back up like that
Yeah not the thing to do with potential spinal injuries, but he helped save him because rubins had swallowed his tongue and hadn't he uprighted the car sid Watkins couldn't have cleared his throat and almost certainly would've died

As a Brazilian, I remember that day like it was yesterday. May 1, Brazil lost its dearest family member, and May 29, I lost my father.
I know I’m representing every Brazilian on my statement: thanks you for all your kindness toward Senna! More than a legend, Senna was an important figure in a turbulent time in Brazil. Great man!
By the way: he was the responsible for bringing Audi to the Brazilian Market. Today, 2024 I found a Senna’s sticker on my desk. Wheat outside and cleaned the surface of my Audi and put it there!
Best wishes to every Senna fan in here!❤️🇧🇷❤️🇺🇸❤️🇧🇷❤️🇺🇸❤️
I have never watched F1 again after Senna's death. What The F1 administration did has no excuse.
Amen. They were responsible in some sense. This was difficult to watch.

In the rain there was no one for anyone. Legend.
1 was 8 years old when this happenend and i didn't know anything about formula 1. I was listening to a soccer finale in Holland which was interrupted to bring news of Senna's crash. It took some time before the news of him dying reached us, i'll never forget my uncle, with an anxious face asking me nervous: is he dead? When i said that i believed so he couldn't say anything. It's something i'll never forget.
Yep, you only had to watch him manually shift gears, at high speed, tearing around corners, one hand on the wheel, overtaking everyone on a rain soaked track to know he was and still is the best
a legend! His name was Ayrton Senna da Silva, but he will always be remembered as Ayrton Senna of Brazil
True words
Senna will always be my hero and one of the greatest of all time. Rest In Peace to a legend😭
This death still chokes me up. My dad loved F1, I can remember this well, watching live, and my little 11 year old heart broke ❤

Senna was a great man he gave a lot to charity and his country he gave is all to formula 1 racing he is a legend and one of the greatest drivers of all time you are a legend rip senna😊
I watched it live. A tragic loss of a legend 😢
I was prrparing for my undergrad final exams when this happened. I was shocked and devastated. Senna was the reason I got interested in Formula 1. It took me a long time to accept that a great driver like him could pass away the way it happened.
Ayrton Senna was a legend, he has been forever memorialised in the McLaren Senna car.
FIA murdered senna ..
not just him, they killed also Ratzenberger
I disagree. Sure the role of FIA was questionable yet nobody forced Senna or Ratzenberger to race. Ultimately it is always the drivers decision.

It's really disturbing that fia didn't even canceld it after 2 major deaths 😢
Crazy how such a small piece of car part did so much damage. Such a shame.
Bullshit
I watched this race live and to this day I never knew about the blood dropping from the helicopter onto that white car and the press.
The medic who was with Senna throughout the whole treatment stated the blood loss was so severe that as the helicopter tilted to land the blood collected and poured off the stretcher and was spread due to the spinning rotors.
where did you read that, if you dont mind telling me?@@locsta9892
At some point in the TV broadcast you could see a pool of blood on the ground. It was just for a second though before they changed the camera as they realized what they had just shown
Same here and that view of crash from bridge hearing the engine at full throttle then the impact it was unreal footage at the time I first saw it.
I didn't know about it til now either. It sounds horrifying!! Not nice for those people who got his blood on the either. 💔
F1’s greed ended an era they would never see again.
I think that it is a miracle that Barrichello survived this crash and the hard flipover
And to this day, Rubens still has no memory of his accident and he was very lucky to only suffer a broken nose cause the way he crashed so suddenly from 150mph to zero, that should have been a fatal accident or severely injured
A brain injury.... I.e. concussion is a severe injury. ❤

Well made video man, brought a lot of memories.. Greetings for the good job. 👍👍
On that day, May 1st 1994, we were at my mom's village celebrating local labor day.
Please...
I don't believe it was ever suggested that Comas had 'just gone out on his own to check on Senna!'
Best I ever saw by the eye test. He just looked faster than everyone. My gosh at the time I thought Prost was so good and then Senna showed me that there’s a difference between greatness and artistry.
Translation for 1:17: "i don't know, he needs the sponsors to pay more next year, otherwise how is the boy going to race next year?"
