Pushing my Limits on Canadian Forest Singletrack: 5 Days on Dirt Bikes in Canada, Day 2
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 23 авг 2024
- Day 2 of my week-long Canadian dirt bike riding trip started with an hour-long van ride to private ranch land: home to some of the most pristine, unmolested, and most difficult singletrack on the planet. This is true Canadian forest singletrack: creek crossings, log hops, steep hills, muddy descents, and just about everything my little Honda CRF250F could handle (and some it couldn't). This was the hardest dirt bike trail riding of my life.
I'm not going to lie, I strongly considered giving up and quitting on day 2. Riding dirt bikes on singletrack like this is a dream come true, but I was also quickly finding the limits of my dirt bike riding skills and physical endurance. It was an honor to get to tackle these private single track trails in Canada, but the difficulty was quite a bit more than this Dork was prepared to handle.
Make sure you check out the full 5 Days on Dirt Bikes in Canada playlist!
Thanks to the @TractioneRag for the opportunity to come out and tackle this amazing Canadian dirt bike riding.
Big shout out and thanks to @spitescorner for suffering through this experience alongside me. I couldn't have done it without you, my man.

@@DorkintheRoad 💪🏻
Dude watching this back makes me miss it so much. I'd do this again in a heartbeat. I want another crack at that first hill.
I've seen Dork mention in a number of videos that he's not the most hardcore rider. Honestly I'm glad this kind of content is around. I'm older and rounder then I once was, and I was worried that it would stop me form getting out and doing all the fun dual sport and ADV riding stuff. So I just wanted to say thanks Dork for showing me that an average dude off the street can go do this stuff without having to have started off road riding at 18 years of age, and that I've not missed my window for dual sport and ADV riding!
Thank you for saying this. This is exactly why I make this content.
@@DorkintheRoad I could not agree with @Super043's comment MORE.....the win is completing the day and pushing yourself. Even if you say to yourself "ok did that, don't need to EVER do it again" Maybe you won't choose to do something like it again but IF BY CHANCE this type of terrain pops up during an adventure you'll be able to handle it....Long Live The Dork In The Road
" The Dork" keeping it real !
After I saw Dork riding Grizbait last year, I concluded that I too, could go out and enjoy riding with the Erag crew... and I did that this June.
I'm also in my 50's and definitely not in the best shape of my life, but I thoroughly enjoyed the riding none the less, and the Erag crew are fantastic people who are there to help, with infinite patience, except for Satan if you're late to the van... he has no patience for that.
Anyways... keep on riding bud! There's no "good" time to stop... ;-)
I love how honest dork is in this video. Watching frustrations grow deffinetly makes it feel more personal
As a 35 year old just getting into single track (and the slowest), I appreciate this video.
Looks like some incredible riding. You are stretching yourself, what an awesome place to do that. Looks like a great group of guys to do it with as well.
That moment when you are riding down a trail, and it takes a sudden turn to the dark side. You pucker up, clear your mind, and tackle the trail head on!! After the steep grade/obstacles/squirrels laughing at you as you trek by, you realize you just became a more well-rounded rider that can do more than you thought.
Eventually, you are smiling through it all.
Good on you Ben!!
Can I add that this is the best commercial for the Honda 250F they could possibly ask for? Ben is doing crazy hard single track on this bike as an intermediate to novice single track rider who is a bit over sized for this bike and the bike is enabling Ben to really crush it. I'd buy one just based on this video.
Dude. I absolutely freaking love this series !!!! Finally a motovlogger influencer dude that shows good content. I fucking love this series. Clap clap.
Dude your videos are the best, and Ben I think you’re just awesome at all you do and your attitude with that special humor is the best part that makes you who you are!
That is very nice of you to say!
Much respect, Ben. That's 100% gnarl. Two thumbs up. 👍👍
See you in Plain. 👌
You immediately let off the throttle the second you started up that hill lol.
@@nkyryry I think the more significant issue was how he stood on the pegs and shifted his body weight completely forward losing all his rear traction. When I first started riding I made the same mistake on hills. I didn’t understand keeping the rear wheel weighted.
Again, LOVE to see you pushing through difficult rides. Everything you do inspires me to continue my moto journey. Thank you Dork
I'd have trouble walking that track and not falling over! You are a legend!
Hi Dork, I’m just getting into motorized riding. I’ve been an mtb’er forever with a bunch of trips to BC. It’s humbling. You have the best attitude. I’d rather ride with somebody rad and good natured any day than somebody with mad skills.(Not saying you don’t have skills…). Keep it up. I’ve done a ton of adventure and endurance sports but the dual sport bike has opened up a whole new world. I’m psyched. Keep it up. Your channel rocks.
looks like heaven
You'll appreciate how much fun this ride is after you've been home for a week or so.
Thanks, Ben for this great video that hill climb looked wicked the one stepped off the bike and walked it up. Looking forward to the next video thanks man.
Dork, this has to be the BEST 👍 video you have done. I laughed and enjoyed. Thanks.
Wow, amazing trails! I have zero dirt bike skills, so I am definitely not knowledgeable regarding how hard this riding is, but it like amazing that you rode the vast majority of it. Great going and super entertaining video!
Character is defined by doing something that is hard. Respect for keeping your spirits up while pushing your limits!
Yo man, that trail is horrible! Thank you for showing us noobies this trail and the difficulty. You’re my personal hero for doing this, and showing us how difficult it is while we watch from our boring lives at work and at home. Love you bro!
@blacknight7201 fresh soft terrain knobbies would help..
Way to hang in there Ben!! Looks like a great day of challenging riding!
Man, just watching this made me anxious, especially knowing how much action cameras flatten things out! Hats off to you for putting yourself out there!
Wow, that is some beautiful single track!
I am so glad you are messaging that it is about fun, staying within your limits, but still pushing yourself.
Hang in there! You have improved so much! You inspire us to be better riders!
Hang in there Mr. Dork. You are an inspiration to all of us who are living vicariously through you.
Epic BC single track, we love that stuff! Now go back and ride it at night to make it even more of a challenge. Great effort Ben!
That was a tough ride Ben...I got hung up on the wet roots after that afternoon creek crossing and was gassed.
You have no idea how many people these videos are affecting. "If that guy can do it... then _I_ can do it!" Seeing average-joes like you and Spite push through gives others the courage to try.
That's why I do it! So glad to hear it's working ;)
Ride at a pace that is safe for yourself. The trail and the friends will be there waiting for you no matter what.
Loving this series of videos! When we hit challenging rides, our bodies default to muscle memory/comfort/safety - which for many of us is riding sitting down since that's what we do most of the time on the road. No shame in it, it's just a re-training of the body/mind that needs to take place. Looks like you're being mindful of that which is the first step! You're doing great!
You did great, its about having fun and progressing in your own pace. Nice ridin!
These are not ADV bike trails. These are pure dirt bike trails. Just my very humble opinion. It is good though that you are attempting to do this on a bike I would never want to do these on as this shows what a guy can accomplish. I'm really proud of you and appreciate your martyrdom.
Dallas convinced me that I wouldn't enjoy this and to go do a long dual sport ride on the 300L with him instead.
I did that.
It was an amazing ride..
Seeing your video, I don't regret my choice as I am no better at single track than you are.
💪🏻😎
Subscribed today after realizing I wasn’t already..you’ve motivated me to make my next bike a CRF 300L Rally. I would love to be able to ride like you do! All I know is street riding but you sir have shown me how fun adventure riding can be!
Good choice. I bought it and it is so fun 24/7/365 on snow 🇫🇮 with studs and everywhere you just challenge yourself to go.
Rally Raid suspensions and EJK with more open airflow and exhaust will wake it up nice.
And 43 rear sprocket 👍
Been here as a FAN and have some CRF300 RALLY videos too from Finland 🇫🇮 @J8zzy
DORK is just BEST!✌️🏁
These videos keeps me going and learning more.
Dude, great job and great video. Thank you for bringing us along.
Great video! You rode well. That wasn’t easy terrain.
Dude, You did great! Can't wait for the next one!
You still had a great time. Great video. From Texas.
I’m doing my first dual sport ride this weekend - thanks to you, Ben!!! Never underestimate the power of the Dorkside!! Thank you for your inspiration, Ben!
I'm glad you did this ride so that we don't have to. One thing I will not be paying for is being pushed beyond my safe riding zone.
I'm at the point now where I just push the "like" button as soon as the video starts. Your channel has quickly become one of my absolute favorites, and I know that no matter what the topic of the video is it won't disappoint.
I'm honored!
That is beautiful country and a far cry from the California desert where my off-road adventures have been. Nice riding, bro. You got gumption, man.
Waaay more interesting than watching some guy flex in a off-road motorcycle ad where the magic of editing and doing 50 camera takes makes it look trivial. This is the reality and people who want to get into this and find the true rewards will spend some time here. If you watch this and still want to do it, you'll have a blast. If you watch a Honda/BMW/Yamaha etc. promo you'd easily be demoralized and maybe quit.
Great observation!
Good for you! Your struggles give me the confidence to start my struggle as I’ve been off bikes for 15 years… and now I have one again at 45years old. I’m excited again!
This is sick.
I started watching you before I had even picked up my dual sport in late '21 as a mid-30 year old - keep on being that inspiration bud.
Always welcome in BC!
Wow, good job making it through all that, and the scenery is beautiful!
goat track/single track..good on ya Ben, that was nasty!
I thought you did awesome, Dork dude! I'm a new old rider with a Himalayan. Looking forward to doing some Adventure rides with my sons.
It's always best to learn enduro style riding in the dry so hats off to you for trying and persisting in the wet.
I love that you took on this challenge but the constant self deprecation was kinda saddening if I'm honest. I think you did a great job and I'm inspired to push myself a little bit harder going forward.☺
You only learn by doing it. Keep it up.
Momentum is your friend and/or enemy.
You are an animal! In a good way. Respect!
The commentary is F’n hilarious in this one. Thanks for the laugh.
You seem like a better rider than me. So when you have these challenges on the trail, it makes me feel a little better about my own. Because we are both seeing the great riders and not matching them. Nice to see that it's not really as easy as they make it look. Thanks for sharing.
I'm always in it above my skill level on group rides, but I enjoy almost every minute of it!
Not many adventures to have sitting on the couch .. excellent channel my friend.
LoL! I know exactly where you were riding! I've ridden that trail network a whole bunch of times, and the terrain there is no joke! Kudos on living through it!
Kudos for testing your limits! Self-deprecating humor may help with clicks but it hurts you in performance. "Shoot that gap in the trees" vs. Bouncing off that tree would hurt" makes a difference in the outcome. It also affects where you're looking/focused.
Awesome video, love to see you out pushing your limits and making great memories.
🇨🇦
Enjoyed this video.
You did awesome. I ride that type terrain all the time and still get in my head thinking I will fail but never do. A mental game for sure. Good on you for keeping on.
It's nice to even get invited to ride a place like this & w/o cameras you'd still be pushed by the 7-8 other riders with you as they
are all watching/waiting for each other to finish so they can move along. Add multiple video cams & you've got an added bit
of pressure knowing every slip/fall is recorded but not to worry, I'd have fallen a lot more then you & IDKnow that I could be
picking my bike up that many times in one day. Kudo's for going, for challenging yourself, and for recording the ordeal. LOL,
I hope to get to do some of this by fall, I'm saving for my 1st bike in over 30 yrs now. peace
I couldn't do any of this, even w/ a capable bike.
Tough to watch this content...regrets since I'm not there! Ben, you look like you have obtained some more skills since last year at GrizzBait. I'm hoping to return to an event next year.
This is awesome seeing you do this! It was nice to meet you at the Touratech Rally as I was proudly wearing your t-shirts 😀
This series is great, what an amazing opportunity.
Nice tracks and video! Thank you Sir Dork.👍🏁
You did pretty good IMO. Took a couple crazy lines, but you crushed it. Awesome job. My wife rides like Tim, I ride like you. We all get it done though.
Those trails look pretty sweet, just wait until you experience crazy steep sidehill, lol. We'll see how in your head you get then. Have fun, keep them coming!!
Welcome to BC lol. There's a reason I stick to FSR's when I'm solo, and it's trails like that. Plus I'm old and unskilled of course...
Hell yeah Ben 👊 gettin after it! Love seeing your videos and this one was quite confidence inspiring
Takes years for this type of riding to become Type 1 fun. Good on ya for sticking it out. Good news is that it makes more moderate dual sport riding more fun and seem less daunting. Shock therapy of sorts 😂.
Absolutley loving this. I can also relate to you.
Just getting 1/2 way up or down a hill will help you so much on smaller stuff in your regular riding. I can relate to the huffing and puffing, "I have had almost enough of this." LOL.
You are doing phenomenally well.
I get the impression the bike you are on is a tad under powered.
Quit smoking, quit drinking, start working out, and lose a hundred and fifty pounds. You could be a real contender at this. Honestly, this is your best vlogs.
@@stevenbrowne116 but that is all the fun man!
Blasphemy!! LOL
There is merit to this argument.
Those trails look awesome!
Looks like fun! Definitely type 2 fun Fs. It’s true that action cameras are liars so I’m sure those trails are particularly gnarly. You did great! I’ll have to save up some cash to go next year 🤔
I'm rooting for ya! Pun intendeddddd!
Been watching you evolve into the savage off-roader you’ve become, I’m 65 and have been riding off-road since 1969, I ride street as well. Have you been checked out physically? I’ve lost two friends since 2019 from heart attacks, both after they re entered into the sport…
This look super difficult and incredibly fun! Action cameras are jerks, no doubt. Cool to see your adventure to the Candy Mountain Charlie…er…Dork!
It's a liopluridon, Charlie!
Do that a few more times and your skills will be awesome.
Hey great job! We all think we are badass mofos until nature shows us otherwise haha
Great job man.
Good video 😊 One ride at the time.. We said in Québec "En cas de doute gaz au boutte"
It probably wasn't your intent, but these last two videos have inspired me to get my ass into the basement to lift some weights and spend time on the treadmill.
Me thinks it was exactly his intent. 😁
You did great. Half of it is mental. I would have rode a gear higher and clutched more but hey im a noob too😊
I totally feel ya on getting beaten down by the trail. I just did a week in Moab with some really experienced riders. I’m a noob for sure. Luckily they were all nice about me holding them up. And all the times I had them get my bike passed obstacles that I couldn’t do. So where in Oregon are you from. I’m down In Salem. I Would enjoy riding with ya.
7:45 is pure comedy. 😎
Ya better you than me. Would love to be able to ride like that but not even close.
It's 90% mental and the other 80% is in your head.
Those are some beautifully cut green / blue single track trails.
Mostly blue with a touch of black here and there, based on my experience.
@@DorkintheRoad If you are still in the area, venture over to Chewels Inks Lake trails or Duffy / Greenstone. The trails are on Trailforks and are rated as Green, Blue, Black and Red (double black). Same amazing flow trails, more open than what we have on the coast area (Vedder, Mcnutt, Squamish ...) with all the variety from easy flow to WTF really hard.
@@DorkintheRoad If you are still in the area, consider heading out to ride in Chewels / Inks or Duffy Greenstone area, both are on Trailforks with trails marked as Green, Blue, Black and Red (Double Black). Miles and miles of amazing flowing single track riding as easy or hard as you want to ride, but typically more open and flowy.
Then if you want to up the game with tight technical trails, head towards the coast and ride at Vedder or McNutt or up at Squamish.
Someone should do a first time rider dirt bike like was done for MTB on the North Shore.

Starfish shaped holes in your shorts?
Challenging, good job!
Some of that stuff looked absolutely brutal specially in the rain 😢
Im saving really hard to have the money to get into the drawing for brcm, probably not next year but the year after. Definitely my kind if thing, I certainly am not Grahm Jarvas, but if I'm not suffering, I'm not having fun.
go on lad 🙂
That looks so fucking beautiful and so fucking fun
I think I'm fairly fit for my age, 55 y/o, 6' tall and 210 lbs. Can run three miles a day no problem, but this looked like it would wear me out if I didn't train for it.
This type of riding takes a lot out of a person! I couldn’t do it..
You need a 450 and let it rip. :)😊
all of those bikes should have a recluse clutch in them. would have helped a ton
Not gonna lie, it was a bit hard to even watch. I mean, it's amazing and all of that but, I was concerned almost all the time. It's so difficult to draw the line between challenging yourself and go too far and get hurt. Personally when I realize I'm messing up stuff I usually can do, that to me it's the sign to call it a day before something goes wrong. I'm sure you were aware of your own limits and you did keep it safe but just watching got me sweating dude. Great content, just... don't kill yourself please XDD
And almost looks like a highway compared to some of the stuff here in Spokane and surrounding area Coeur d’Alene and above Coeur d’Alene around Lake Ponderay and and surrounding area talking about northern Idaho northern eastern Washington.
